Bennie, Mary and Judy find themselves in a very difficult position. They are being charged with reverse discrimination, and their one male lawyer, John, seems to agree with certain aspects of the charges against them. When John is killed they are not only fighting the lawsuit but the police in trying to find John's killer. Could all this stress cause complications with Mary's pregnancy?
A big thank you to St. Martin's Press for a paperback ARC of this new installment in the Rosato & DiNunzio series. Mary has been on of my favorite characters since I read "Everywhere That Mary Went" and it is heartwarming to see Mary about to become a mother. Meanwhile, there are lawsuits and a murder to deal with as well as the legal machinations of Nick Machiavelli. The action is nonstop and the murderer was a total surprise to me. I know fans of Mary and Judy will really love this one.
Feared by Lisa Scottoline is a heart-racing plot. The intensity of the scenes kept my heart pounding. I was not sure of what would be the outcome. The main character went through a lot of changes recently. From motherhood to catching bad guys, this strong independent woman made me speechless. Her bravery was crazy. Lies, deception, and danger hung in the air. Lisa Scottoline poured suspense and action onto every page. Not one single boring moment. Also, I loved the small community of support that was created for the main character. It softened the hard yet dark edges of this story.
Romance, crime, and mystery are displayed here. I could not get enough of the characters. Mary is the central character. She is pregnant and solved a case that others couldn't solve. Her instincts are so clear, that it was frightening. Her guesses were right but sometimes the wrong suspect is chosen. But none of that stopped Mary from working the case. Her strong willed personality helped define her as a woman not to be toyed with...as one of the male characters has figured out later in the plot. The connection between Mary and her husband, as well as the connection with another man kept the me guessing. Feared is a novel about facing fears and getting justice. Overall, I would recommend it to readers seeking a rush of adrenaline.
A welcome addition to the Rosato & DiNunzio series. This time around they are being sued for reverse discrimination because they are an all female law firm. Great characters, plot twists and enough red herrings to keep you guessing. Highly recommended.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free, electronic ARC of this novel!
Bennie and Mary are back in “Feared”, the new Rosato and DiNunzio novel by Lisa Scottoline.
Bennie, Mary and Judy are shocked to the core when they are served with papers that claim reverse discrimination, for refusing to hire male lawyers. When their only male associate, John, admits there is some truth to this and quits the firm, the ladies must focus all of their energies on defending their case. When it comes to light that the lawyer defending this case is one of Mary’s arch enemies, the trio begin to sense that something is not quite right. Unexpectedly, John is murdered and not only are they left to defend their case, but one of their own is being accused of murder.
The wonderful thing about Scottoline is that you don’t need to have read the previous novels in the set to know what is going on. I have been lax, I can admit, and have only read two previous R&D stories. (a problem I will soon address!) “Feared” brings back the entire DiNunzio clan with its full, Italian charm!
This novel, like all of Scottoline’s, is obviously very legal-heavy. The cases being argued in this novel are not only legal-heavy, but there is one that is particularly tech-heavy. Some of these complex terms and processes were a bit difficult for me to follow, but, “Feared” is not at all a strictly legal drama, and the romantic, action-packed and suspenseful bits were what kept me hooked!
Mary is a great character and I love her noisy (and nosy) family. I was thrilled that they played a prominent role in this novel. Some of the plot touched on social issues current to our modern society (such as the reverse discrimination lawsuit and the gender issues assumed therein), yet the novel managed to avoid being preachy and haughty.
I always enjoy a good Scottoline novel, and this was a nice treat after suffering a bit of a reading slump. Fans of Rosato and DiNunzio will not be disappointed in this newest release and to those who are new to the duo, “Feared” is just as easy to read as a stand-alone (although, with Scottoline, why would you?)
(Also, for the record, the write-up of the novel on Goodreads is wrong. See the NetGalley description or mine here to get a plot summary).
I’ve read all of the Rosato and now the Rosato & DiNunzio books along with Ms. Scottoline’s standalone stories. I love this series, the female attorney’s and the recently added male attorney, along with family and friends.
This is an unusual case with a reverse discrimination lawsuit by Nick Machiavelli, who has had it in for Mary after losing a case to her recently. The law firm is shocked by the allegations and as more details emerge, they are frantic as the continuing news stories are not only affecting their business but their reputations.
There are numerous poignant moments between Mary and her husband Anthony, John, his handicapped brother William and Judy, and even Bennie. I always enjoy any scenes with Mary’s parents, the numerous Tony’s – Pigeon Tony, Tony Two-Feet, etc. The South Philly neighborhoods are full of large, loving extended families, long-time friends, and plenty of food.
When one of their own attorney’s is found murdered, many secrets come to light and the number of potential suspects increase.
With Mary pregnant, she is working harder than ever and there were a few medical concerns. With a seemingly new crisis each day, she just can’t relax and rest and works tirelessly trying to find the criminal(s) who have caused so much chaos and heartbreak.
I really enjoyed the scenes with Mary, Machiavelli and his mother, along with many ladies from the neighborhood. I laughed out loud when his mother said she could tell by looking in his eyes whether he was lying or not and she was correct!
The ending was quite terrifying with an unexpected plot twist, which kept me flipping my (Kindle) pages faster and faster.
This was an entertaining story with a lot going on but it all was managed expertly by Ms. Scottoline. After several books in this series, I can easily visualize the many characters and feel every emotion. This series would make a great TV program!
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this early copy.
Three men have sued the DiNunzio law firm for descrimination, claiming they weren’t hired because they were men. The firm is in the middle of a very important lawsuit and this creates huge problems for the firm. The lawyer for the 3 men is known for playing dirty.
This book is part of a series but could easily be read alone. I love Mary’s family and the Tonys. Great characters. This book will have you rooting for Mary and her firm from the first page. There is suspense and humor in this book. There is a twist at the end that I didn’t see coming. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
Feared – Lisa Scottoline
I was fortunate to receive this novel as an Advance Reader Copy, in exchange for an objective review.
Bennie, Mary & Judy are back as the Rosato & DiNunzio law firm finds themselves under fire…
A warm celebration of Mary’s impending motherhood is being celebrated within the walls of the law offices, when a messenger arrives with packages for each of the female members of the team. As the courier departs he tells them that they’ve been served. In the midst of preparing for an anti-trust trial, the team is astounded to discover that they are being sued for reverse sex discrimination. Additionally, they learn that the suit is being brought against them by Mary’s nemesis, Nick Machiavelli, and that comments made by their lone male attorney, John Foxman, may be partially to blame.
Shortly thereafter, John Foxman leaves the firm and the group is subjected to a plethora of bad press, interviews, and news write ups designed to discredit the agency. As Bennie and her team prepare to fight back, they hire their own attorney – and begin their own investigation. But then, a death occurs – and Bennie’s own team becomes suspect…
As always, a fabulous read by Lisa Scottoline! Full of the characters, legalese and prose you’ve come to love, this book does not disappoint!! I couldn’t put it down!!
This is the sixth book in the Rosato & DiNunzio series. It is a law/crime genre book. I have not read the series and it reads terrifically as a stand alone novel. There was enough backstory given for the chatacters that it was fine for a stand-alone but wouldn’t seem repetive to people who have read the series.
The novel opens with a reverse sexual discrimination law suit filed against Rosato & DiNunzio by a long standing rival. Mary knows that there is more to the case that what initially appears, but everyone is shocked when one of their own is murdered.
Mary, 7 months pregnant, races to uncover the whole truth, reveling something far deeper than she ever would have imagined. Recommended for anyone who enjoys fast paced crime novels!
* I received this advanced readers copy in exchange for my honest opinon
Mary DiNunzio returns in a sex discrimination case that seems like it was designed to bring her and her law firm down. Is it Nick Machiavelli who is determined to usurp Mary at every turn? When the situation turns deadly and murder of one of their own is added to the mystery - Mary and co must form their own investigation. Is that a danger in itself?
A very pregnant Mary DiNunzio stars in this latest book by Lisa Scottoline. Things are going well at the office, the gang is about to host a shower for Mary when they are served with a lawsuit from 3 guys they've never heard of, claiming they were discriminated against because they are men. Crazy, right? And just to make it worse, the plaintiffs are represented by Nick Machiavelli, Mary's nemesis, who would like to see the firm out of business. But then, they ARE an all (or almost all) female law practice...Then things get ugly, really ugly, as hidden feelings begin to emerge from or by others in the practice. Then..someone is murdered! Would Machiavelli really go that far?
Mary buries herself in the case and follows the threads where they lead, which is to say, in strange and misleading directions. Can she find the murderer? What's the connection between her Machiavelli and the three plaintiffs? The plot twists, we are sent one way and then the next, and if you like happy endings, it's neatly tied up for you at end. Neatly, but not predictably! Feared is a great summer read, take it with you on the plane, to the beach and let the great team at Rosato and DiNunzio argue their case!
Let me start by saying thank you to NetGalley for having the opportunity to review this book. This is part of the Rosato & DiNunzio series. Even if you have not read any of the other books in this series, you are able to follow this plot. Mary DiNunzio finds herself once again at odds with Nick Machiavelli while defending the firm against a reverse discrimination suit filed against them. The unfortunate demise of one of their associates keeps the women on alert while trying to clear their reputation.
Scottoline once again brings a sense of realness to her characters and makes them easy to relate to. This is a great read for anyone that enjoys a good "page turner" .
I can not tell you how much I loved this book. I have been a Lisa Scottoline fan for years and love everything she writes but Bennie and Mary are like reading about your family. This book was an emotional roller coaster with the death of John Foxman and the Rosato law firm being sued and then the birth of Mary’s baby. The Tonys make my heart smile. William is a fantastic character and I hope we get to see him again. After a tough week, getting to read this book early, thanks to Netgalley, has really made me smile. Thanks to Lisa for another fantastic book.
I think it is definitely better to be loved than feared. If you've read this book, than you know what I am talking about. This book is part of a series. You can read it as a stand alone, but it is much better if you've read all the books, then you know the characters and their backgrounds. This is a fun book to read. I really enjoyed all the legal stuff. I would of given it 5 stars but it just ended so abruptly, I wanted a little bit more of the story. I guess I will have to wait for the next installment:). If you love legal thrillers, women with strong friendships bonds, and generational family, friends and neighbors, entwined in the storyline you will like this book.
LOVED LOVED LOVED this book.
Lisa Scottoline is amazing. Great characters and kept me guessing!
Thank you!
Scottoline’s latest is another legal thriller in the Rosato & DiNunzio series. While this is the sixth book in the series, it can be read as a standalone (though I would recommend going back and reading the others). Tension is high throughout the story, up to the satisfying conclusion, complete with an unexpected twist. The female cast of characters (all lawyers) is a lot of fun with the various personalities, as well as the trouble that seems to follow them. (This time, it’s a reverse discrimination case and a murder.) For those readers who have read others in the series, Machiavelli is back. You can’t help but love to hate him. Mary is trying to solve the murder and deal with being pregnant at the same time. This is a fast-paced read that is a great addition to the series.
Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy from NetGalley, but I wasn’t required to leave a positive review.
This is #6 in the Rosato & DiNunzio series. I just love the way Ms Scottoline tells a story. The all female law firm is being sued because of reverse discrimination and then a MURDER occurs! While this is #6 in a series it can be read as a stand alone. (you will want to catch up after this one, though)
My thanks to Netgalley and St Martins Press for this advanced readers copy.
I was lucky enough to receive a complimentary copy of Lisa Scottoline's new book "Feared." My opinions expressed about this book are completely my own.
I love the Rosato and DiNunzio series, FEARED is the sixth in the series. I recommend reading the series in order, without the background of the other books, you would be lost.
I always enjoy the humor in this series and generally laugh out loud while reading. Lots of twists and turns and intrigue, I didn't really enjoy the lengthy legal language....after awhile I started fast paging to get it over with. I realize the importance of the legal aspect, I just felt it was a bit drawn out.
Once you get to know all the characters from Bennie to Mary to Judy to Mary's family to the Tony's.... well, you will fall in love with all of them!
*Highly recommend
Feared by Lisa Scottoline gives us another mystery that must be solved by Mary, Judy, and Bennie before anyone else dies. Tender moments keep us involved with this crime solving group.
Lisa Scottoline’s stories are like old friends. Her characters seem like people you know and love, but I admit I always feel badly for Mary’s long suffering husband! Mary’s old nemesis Machiavelli comes back for revenge in this reverse discrimination suit which threatens Rosato and DiNunzio. Lots of twists and surprises in this latest story, making this a must-read for Scottoline fans!
