Life and love are messy and I think that's the overall theme of this book but the ride was a bit too whiplash for me.

This erotic romance is set in an enclave of drunken LGBTQ students in contemporary Australia. The road of excess may lead to the palace of wisdom, but it's not the straight or easy road. In chapter one the lovers have finally committed, but it's a very confusing back-story slog throughout the rest of the book to return to this certainty. Glitter and vomit abound.

Something Of Him is the first time I have read anything by Jonathan M. Lazar and I am beyond thrilled with it.

This story is so darn multi-layered, so raw and so realistic, making it gut-wrenching as well as hopeful. This book had me crying, screaming and swooning.

The story revolves around Jeffrey's life, over a span of years. It follows his heartbreak, his bad decisions, his good decision, and all the complications involved. It is not a happy story during the details, but it has an overall wonderful message.

Jonathan does a fantastic job of telling this tale through an ongoing flip between the past and the present. Make sure to pay attention, as to not miss anything.

I positively fell in love with this story. From the very beginning, I was completely hooked and ended up having to read late into the night.

I don't want to give anything away, but one thing that I find extremely impressive is the way the decision to make porn was discussed. I loved it and appreciated this strong viewpoint.

I highly recommend Something Of Him to anyone looking for a complicated emotional ride.

The trials of a young man's search for love. Author Lazar chooses to tell his story completely out of sequence, jumping back and forth in time-- and also back and forth between lovers. He leave the reader to try and put the puzzle pieces together in the right order and to try to decipher the message is is attempting to deliver. The characters are likable enough but get lost in the telling. Life and love are messy-- but so is this disjointed telling that never seems to find its footing or voice.

I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Something of Him is Jeffrey's story. His loves, losses, friends, and life in general as he searches for that special someone. The problem is he seems to be one of those grass is always greener on the other side types of people, at least that's how he came across. Part of that feeling may be the way the story is presented. It jumps around through Jeffrey's twenties, and when I say it jumps around, I mean back and forth. The first three chapters are years 25, 28, and 23 - in that order. The book continues in that style and while that may work for some, it just didn't work very well for me with this one. We get bits and pieces of different romances or different times in romances, and I never really got a feel for most of them. I get that a large part of the story is his relationship with one person in particular and the loss of that relationship, but with so much jumping around, it's hard to get into the emotion of the story. The book did have potential to be a moving and emotional story, but in the end, it was just an okay read for me.

☺️🌈Hello🌈,
I received this book in exchange for an honest review so here it goes !
This book started out a bit slow in my opinion, at first I was confused by the time frame and the way things were set up because while there is a date there is no year, only the age of the main character when you move from a “time zone to another”, so to speak. Also, the fact that some characters ✨**spoilers** we’re dead and then alive in other parts of the book **spoiler end**. ✨
Overall I really enjoyed the book Collin was a nice character and I would’ve liked to know more about him in order to get more invested in the story, I was in love with Ryan and it’s what made me ultimately enjoy the book so much. There were many twist in the story I didn’t expect and it was really easy to get into the writing style once you got used to the set up. I totally recommend it, it’s not a story I would read many times in a row but there were some parts that really gave good life lessons and made things relatable.
3.6⭐️/5⭐️
