This is a great book for all book lovers, no wonder it was called Book Love!
It is a really fast read but it is the perfect book for all the book community specially those who are in a slump or just need a reminder why books are a great thing.
The drawings were simple but pretty and it was very relatable. This can be a gift for all book lovers and I think I will be reading it again and again in the future.
While other books about books may set a preference in their narrative, Book Love by Debbie Tung is a celebration of reading in whatever form it takes. A slice-of-life comic about book lovers and their many, many habits, this was a joy to read and has the distinction of being re-readable several times over.
Book Love was truly a delight to read. It included not just comics for lovers of physical books, but e-books and audiobooks. As long as it's reading material, this title was supportive of however you want to get the author's words into your brain.
The artwork is very attractive. It has a little variation in style and the encapsulates the emotion of the comic at the moment. From starry eyes to a quiet book nook, the black and white drawings were a lovely choice to highlight a bookworm's life.
There are a lot of scenarios within Book Love that will have a ring of familiarity to readers: bringing books along whenever we leave the house, reading in a quiet nook at a party, not passing up sales that are too good! This will be the perfect gift for any book lover, whether it's one you're passing along or treating yourself to.
This was a cute collection of book related comics. Many I have seen online before but a number of them were new to me. As a public library employee and avid reader I really felt like I could see myself in a number of the illustrations.
This book chronicles the everyday struggles of life as a book lover with humor and heart, whether the struggle is not enough having time to read, having to choose between reading and having a social life, or having to choose not to spend your whole paycheck at the book store. A very relatable comic for book lovers everywhere!
The perfect book for any bookworms. The comics were funny and I recognized myself in a lot of them.
I love the way the comics were designed and I loved this book.
Highly recommended!
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC
Debbie Tung is a very gifted artist, illustrator / graphic artist from Birmingham, England whose exceptional gifts are shared in her book of comics, Book Love. This book is sure to appeal to those who love to read. Her illustrations are charming, without being too simplistic or ornate, appealing to all age groups.
For many of us, reading is an essential part of our lives, like eating, sleeping, and Tung shows how well she understands and relates to those feelings in these wonderful little peeks into the life of another book lover. The way you feel pulled into a bookstore that you are walking past, the way a book calls to you when you are tending to real-life things, the way a book can make you feel seen.
This conversation was one of my favourites:
Him: Didn’t you finish reading that book a week ago?
Her: Yeah, I did.
Him: Then why are you still carrying it around?
Her: Um… I don’t know.
Her: I just feel like I’ve bonded with this book so much.
Her: Now that it’s over, I’m finding it hard to let go.
Who doesn’t love to feel understood?
Highly recommend it to all book lovers.

What a delightful book! Book Love is so relatable and captures many feelings and scenarios I've found myself in as a total book nerd. I actually felt as though the character was me! I found myself laughing out loud as I read through the book at situations I have totally been in myself. Such as going on vacation and taking 10 books with me because I couldn't decide which one I'd read next, so I better have a variety. And the feeling of going into a book store, book sale or library- the sight of the books, touching the books, smelling the books, leaving the store/sale/library with 10 more books that I had planned- oh yes I have totally been there! The pictures were fantastic too- capturing the true expressions and feelings of a book nerd. This is one to read over and over! Thanks so much for the ARC copy!
Awww...that was so cute. I adore Debbie Tung’s work. It’s like a warm, fuzzy blanket, a purring cat and a cup of tea all rolled into one. Highly recommend this for any book lover!
I loved Debbie’s Quiet Girl in a Noisy World to pieces. I didn’t think I’d ever read another book that got me so much. Well I was wrong. This book felt like it had a direct path into my head, heart and soul.
Any book lover will love this book and be able to identify with it. Several times while reading I found myself nodding and saying “Yes!” or laughing out loud. It was nice to see that some of the craziness associated with being obsessed with books is universal.
Debbie’s drawings are beautifully simplistic and her use of language superb. She always nails the sentiment she’s trying to convey without being overly wordy. I can’t wait to read more from her.
(Oh, and I NEED the comfy reading chair in the book.)
I picked this book up today because I felt anxious and worried and I needed to get away from it all.
I don't know if this could get more on the nose than that, to be honest.
In this lovely graphic novel, author Debbie Tung shows us what her life - what all our lives- as a bookworm is like. She talks about experiences we've all been through, and reading it all put a smile on my face. A huge, happy smile.
I guess you could say that a lot of what she says is "mainstream" at this point, but the way in which she talks about her experiences- and her unique inky artwork- is what gives the novel a different voice.
If you're someone who loves reading, this book is definitely a must have! The whole book is, to put it in simple meme-able terms of the 21st century- a big frickin' mood xD
I'm so grateful to Andrew McMeel Publishing and NetGalley for this review copy! ❤
Book Love was so so cute!
The main characters were both adorable, and I loved all the comics, as well as the various arts.
Every part of it was so relatable! From the fright at the "Can I borrow your book?" question to the joy you feel in sharing a good book, everything was displayed so beautifully through the sweet cartoons.
I have so many favourites, but I loved the full page drawings, especially the one at the end.
Book lovers rejoice! At long last, there's a book that's made for us. A book about TBR piles, unplanned excursions to the local bookstore, and that hypnotic scent of an old book.
Debbie Tung proves herself to be a fellow bibliophile in this collection of short comics. Each one could stand on its own, posted on social media or a webcomic site, but they also work quite well together as a group. You can binge it all in one sitting, or spread it out over time. No matter what, you're bound to get hit with some relatable jokes and content. The magical joy of reading really shines through in this book, which will definitely bring a smile to anyone's face.
I'm sure that anyone could enjoy this book, including people who don't really "get" reading, but the intended audience is definitely the readers in the world, like myself, who will relate to every scenario. It's such a wholesome experience to read something that was written for a person like you.
The art style here is simple, which I like. Everything you need to know for a scene is there, and not much else. I appreciate the simplicity, since it doesn't detract from the message of each comic.
There's not much more I can say here! If you like short, sweet comics (usually only 4 panels) about being a book lover, this is definitely something you should pick up in early 2019! I highly recommend it, and I can't wait to pick up a physical copy for myself and some of my other bibliophile friends!
A very refreshing book that will definitely remind you of why you loved books and reading in the first place.
There is no plot, no amazing character, and none whatsoever of those very hard to deduce writing style. This is completely relaxing and I love it!
In my complete assumption, I believe that the main character of the comic is the author. She is so relatable and quirky. I love the simplicity of the art, it made it very easy to follow and none exhausting. Don’t get me wrong I love noisy arts too, but this definitely brings you back to a reading zone.
I am in-love with the book because of how relatable it is and if you are as obsessed as Tung with books, you’ll be laughing your arse relating with all her struggles as a bookworm.
Overall, this is such a simple and charismatic fast read comic compilation about a woman and her love for books.
Debbie Tung has done it again, with another adorable collection of comics about life as an introverted bookworm. The biggest reason I recommend this collection is not only because the art is cute and simply sweet and the stories themselves are fun, but because I think so many book lovers will be able to relate to it!
Whether it's taking a book to a party, staying up all night to finish your current read, or the undeniable pull of a bookstore no matter how many unread books you have at home, I think every bookworm will find something to love about Book Love!
Thank you so much to Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Debbie Tung doesn’t just understand book lovers, she is a book lover. I really enjoyed this quick read of Debbie's thoughts about everything to do with books and reading such as: how we read, where we read, why we read, and how we feel about books. Her illustrations perfectly capture the emotions we have when reading, stumbling across a book sale or a book we had forgotten about, the anguish when you finish a book on a cliff hanger, the feeling you get when you watch a movie based on a book and find out they destroyed the story and more. Every page validated one of my bookish experiences, even if it was over the top at times. This book will be in a few packages next year, once it is published.. The publisher, Andrews McMeel Publishing, generously provided me with a copy of this book to read and enjoy. The rating, ideas and opinions are my own.
This was a great book for all those book lovers out there. I related so much to a lot of the things in this book. It made me laugh out loud so much. I absolutely loved the art style!
I FREAKING LOVE THIS BOOK. As a bookworm, this book is sooo relatable and true. I laugh a lot. I need a finish copy for sure :D I highly recommend this book to all of you bookworm out there. It is also make a perfect gift for every book lovers out there :)
Oh my goodness this is the cutest little book!
I want to print some of these pictures to frame for my bookshelf, I relate to so many of the comic strips.
I also showed this to my Husband, he looked through them and commented that it was just like me!
I hope this is going to come out in paperback. I need this on my bookshelf for eternity!
AMAZING book for all readers and book lovers! I love Debbie Tung's work on social media and I was really happy to learn this book is coming out. It's cute, funny and completely accurate! I'll definitely get it when it's out and it'll be the perfect gift for most of friends.
