I received an ARC of this from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
For some reason I put off reading this one but I thought Halloween might be the perfect time to resurrect it.
This was such a great read. It was creepy, there were some incredibly unexpected plot twists and it kept you on the edge of your seat.
This author is definitely one to watch out for and my next read is another one of his novels. Can’t wait and would highly recommend
This book was crazy! Definitely one that stuck with me long after I finished the last page. It was well-crafted and there were twists even I never saw coming. One of my favorite thrillers I've read in a long time. An impressive debut by Alex North, and I will definitely read more of his work in the future.
This book had some creepy elements, but for the most part it was boring back and forth between the police and their suspects. The original story seems like it would have been more interesting to track, instead it provides atmosphere for the unusual happenings in the town. The characters in this book are great, they just don't have much to do that fits the thriller genre.
I cannot even tell you how frightening it was to read this story! I listened to it on audible, too! I’m madly in love with being this creeped out!

I'm so sad that I waited so long to read this book! It was a really good thriller that reminded me of a Nordic Noir novel. The killer was creepy as were the little kids. Watching the dad deal with the loss of his wife and trying to keep things normal for his son was so reminiscent of real life issues. I enjoyed this a lot and can't wait to read more by Alex North!
okay.......that was creepy. Typical psycho thriller except that this one has a serial killer of children who stands at their window and whispers to them. I found that a bit unnerving. Couple of good twists; decent story.
The Whisper Man by Alex North is creepily good. A town's history holds a lot of secrets in this book, the whispering man being among them. Highly nuanced with subtle terror, this is a perfect book to dive into if you're looking for a scary good time. Recommend.
Here is a good thriller! This one has a killer, a bit of supernatural, and a lot of suspense. Tom and his son Jake have moved after the death of Tom's wife, Jake's mom. Jake is twelve. So here, in Featherbank, things should be safe. But they aren't what they seem, are they? Something or someone whispers to kids, and then they are gone. It's old history, fifteen years before Tom and Jake. Five boys were killed, and one vanished. Now Jake isn't safe. Why? Who? How?
Creepy, but creative and realistic too is a good way to class this story. I loved that it's not graphic or gross, but still has all the elements of solid mystery and chills of everything I'd expect for a "cold case" like this one. It could easily be a movie with a lot of fans!
Thank you, Net Galley, for my digital copy this book. This review is my own, left freely.
I have this a three out of five stars. I enjoyed it enough but I had trouble wanting to continue to read it. I thought I would have enjoyed it more tbh. I did get bored with reading it, it couldn’t really keep my interest in it.
Gripping and mind bending thriller! This is one that gets to your core and shakes it. It was a fantastic read and one that I couldn't put down.

This book started out amazing… I was hooked. It’s well written but the story kind of fizzles out in the middle and like other readers I found it hard to keep reading.
It has my typical favorites (serial killer, mystery, thrills) but I feel like the energy was dumped at the beginning leaving crumbs for the middle and ending. Had the energy peaked, plateaued and peaked again i would have enjoyed it more.
Dark. Creepy. THE WHISPER MAN gave me chills as I devoured this tale. To say I was freaked out would be the understatement of the year. North delivers a perfect horror novel. Simply stated...brilliantly spooky.
I thought I would like this book more than I did. It started off slow, gained some momentum, but never got off the ground for me. The characters felt a little flat and two dimensional. The plot had potential but I wanted a bit more complexity in the mystery. Overall it was a good read but I needed more for it to be a great story.
The Whisper Man by Alex North gets an overly enthusiastic 5-stars from me.
This book legit unnerved me and I can’t say that happens very often. This was dark and twisty and creepy.
A few choice moments started to weave a seemingly supernatural theme into the plotline, but it was never blatant so I didn’t know what I was reading until it all came together. North kept me on the edge of my seat, tips of my toes and the end of my last nerve for the entire novel.
The themes of the novel are so contrasting. On one hand, you have an abundance of human emotion centred around family and grief and fatherhood, and then, on the other hand, you are given something exceptionally dark and creepy within the serial killer plot. The way North weaves these two concepts around each other to make both relevant to each other, but still stand out individually created something that was engaging at every level. No moment was wasted, no words were unnecessary. Each scene propelled the narrative forward, both separately and simultaneously.
This was smart, raw and well-written. Purely captivating, emotional and legitimately creepy – a perfect thriller in my opinion.
A strong second novel from Alex North. Both compelling and exceptionally creepy, The Whisper Man will leave you enthralled. The back and forth timeline only add to the story's appeal. Recommend for those who like thrillers with a hint of the supernatural.
This was one of those books that after every chapter you hear the laundry calling you or some other chore just begging to get done and instead you ignore it because you have to know what happens next. I couldn't put this book down and when I eventually had to (because food was a necessity) I kept wondering what would happen next and going over what has already happened in my head. So if you enjoy thrillers I highly recommend this book and also recommend that you carve out some time to read it because you won't want to stop.
Alex North. Standing ovation for The Whisper Man. I was on the edge of my seat then entire time while reading. I cannot wait to read more of your amazing words.
This is definitely an unsettling, creepy, and atmospheric story with a tinge of folklore.
It is extremely well written and I had a hard time putting it down. The author has a way of slowly building suspense and even though I knew where the story was heading, I wanted to read it in the author's own words.
I can't say that I really liked any of the main characters aside from Jake but the storyline and writing are exceptional. It gave me vibes of Silence of the Lambs.
I didn't really understand what the whole point of this book was. There was a tad bit of romance, stereotypical drunk/divorced cop, stereotypical lost dad, and a lot of paranormal type activity. Not my cup of tea.
This book is great! Would definitely recommend. Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
