In this dark, suspenseful thriller, Alex North weaves a multi-generational tale of a father and son caught in the crosshairs of an investigation to catch a serial killer preying on a small town.
After the sudden death of his wife, Tom Kennedy believes a fresh start will help him and his young son Jake heal. A new beginning, a new house, a new town. Featherbank.
But the town has a dark past. Twenty years ago, a serial killer abducted and murdered five residents. Until Frank Carter was finally caught, he was nicknamed "The Whisper Man," for he would lure his victims out by whispering at their windows at night.
Just as Tom and Jake settle into their new home, a young boy vanishes. His disappearance bears an unnerving resemblance to Frank Carter's crimes, reigniting old rumors that he preyed with an accomplice. Now, detectives Amanda Beck and Pete Willis must find the boy before it is too late, even if that means Pete has to revisit his great foe in prison: The Whisper Man.
And then Jake begins acting strangely. He hears a whispering at his window...

What a ride! From start to finish, this epic read was to die for. Will be purchased for library collections. What a thrill!
What a super awesome book! I highly enjoyed the story! The mystery of the novel is so good! A man moves into a very strange house with his son after losing his wife from a heart attack. He is dealing with his lost and trying to look after his son while a man is kidnapping children. All the pieces fall together and make for such a interesting read. I don't even usually like books with kids being abused or killed but this one is totally different. It's super exciting and suspenseful all the way till the end which didn't take me long at all! Recommend you try this book!
This electric, atmospheric tale of a shattered family haunted by the legacy of a serial killer straddles the line between thriller and horror and is destined to be a breakout hit in 2019. A widowed father and young son move into a small community, looking for a fresh start. However, their house was once occupied by a local called the Whisper Man, who would stand outside windows and patiently groom young children into his web. Even though he is currently in prison, the legend persists, and soon the young boy is talking to imaginary friends and hearing whispers outside his own window, and the investigation reopens and tears at the community. Writer Alex North excels at the interior lives of the characters, making the reader feel the trauma of the father and the isolation of the child, and his almost intimate writing style elevates this to one of the better and more inventive thrillers of the year. This one will stick with you.
Police Detective Pete Willis had investigated and solved the case of the abduction and murders of five young boys twenty years ago. But now, another young boy is missing and the circumstances are similar to the old case.
The victims had all heard whisperings from the killer who was dubbed The Whisper Man. Now the police begin to wonder if there had been an accomplice.
A race against time begins before the gruesome case repeats itself and Pete Willis finds that this time his investigation is personal.
Alex North’s novel is a first rate thriller that that is impossible to put down! It’s disturbing, scary, and it will keep you guessing until the very end. Well written with characters that you care about, it is also a story about loss, grief, reconciliation, and the bonds between fathers and sons. If you enjoy suspense don’t pass this book up!
Thank you to author Alex North, Celadon Books, and Net Galley for giving me the opportunity to read the ARC of this outstanding thriller!
