Although it was very American I got plenty of good tips and clear information, not too scientific about food and health like some books can be.

This book purports to be a guide for busy people who want to improve their health. The book appears to be an odd combination of topics grouped under three headings, which are Diet and Nutrition; Exercise and Fitness; and Rest, Recover, Recharge.

To me, this feels like a compilation of popular concepts of these broad topics within health with the addition of the author's personal experience of them. There's nothing new or groundbreaking here. In fact, as a registered nurse, I find some of the “science” and “medical” aspects to be suspect. The way I see it, the only way this is a busy person's guide to health is that it combines in one volume much of popular thought/myth on health, saving you the legwork of reading lots of websites, blogs, and books on health.

The Diet and Nutrition section is a collection of just about every big and small idea I’ve seen about diets in the last 10 years or so, with a heavy emphasis on low-carb, high-protein recommendations. The Exercise and Fitness section talks about procrastination, walking, and finding a gym among other things. The Rest, Recover, Recharge section trots out several topics that seem popular in wellness circles, like technology fasts, solitude, and laughter.

Due to what I see as inaccuracies, I cannot recommend this book. If you do read it, don't just take things that the author says at face value. Do your own research before implementing what is said, especially in the Diet and Nutrition chapter.

This book is comprehensive in ways to get fitter and be happier. While the advice isn’t new, it’s given in a warm hearted way that shows the author is genuinely passionate about helping others to live well. They are some simple and easy ways to improve your health and the advice is very much to start from where you are. There are several hints and tips I’ll start to use in my life, around eating better and moving more.

The book is very American in focus, so there are a few areas that don’t translate as well for an international reader.

If you are looking for a reminder of the fundamentals of health, this book will give some good pointers.

A great book with basic tips on a healthy life. I didn't learn anything new, but it was a great reminder on how to be healthier and that one can do it with simple steps. I would recommend this book for homeschool high school students to use as a health textbook.

I am in need of a healthier lifestyle, I want to loose some weight and feel more energetic and I chose this book to kickstart myself. Up to now it has done that for me, it is a no holds barred kick up the bottom! It has some fantastic information for managing to change your diet and exercise plan, and gives some great tips for keeping it going which can be my downfall. I enjoyed the layout of the book and the tone of the author, very no nonsense!

I had a hard time putting down this book. Matt wrote in such an engaging way, that captives his readers. In this book, we can learn so much about how to take care of ourselves. Even in a life of busyness, we can learn how to honor the Lord with our bodies.

pretty boring overall. I hate to be so negative, but it really preached the same things as so many other diet and lifestyle books out there. Couldn’t finish it.

Useful, straightforward health and fitness advice with a Christian bent. Good basic guide for those looking to work at improving healthy habits slowly and realistically. Not preachy or overbearing. Organized and arranged well.

Easy to read with great advice! One of my favorite parts was not to think of "cheat days" as cheating, but rather as a reward day. Instead of feeling guilty, take the time to indulge yourself if you're going to make the choice to eat something you know isn't great for you. Changes are much easier to make in small doses, and this book helps motivate without unrealistic expectations. I enjoyed it and would definitely recommend!

If you are looking for a breakthrough or a book that will take your health to a new level, keep on looking, as you will not find it here. While this guide surely offers some good points, these are mainly a retelling of what you can find on any good fitness blog.
While I enjoyed the style in which the main part of the book was written - conversational and light - I did not enjoy the boasting and sometimes slightly unbelievable anecdotes filled throughout. I was particular rolling my eyes at a specific story that included an overweight person, and that man's extended television habit, all while being deployed in Afghanistan. I don't know if you have ever been around the Military, but they have fitness standards, and during any deployment binging television is not exactly possible for the majority of soldiers. From that point on, the author lost credibility with me, and therefore I took all personal anecdotes with a bunch of skepticism. Mix that with a mediocre delivery of already widely known tips and tricks, my time would have been wiser spent reading a different book in the same genre.

My kids and I really enjoyed this cute story! The pictures are beautiful! The story is very cute and they loved learning about different exotic animals. Great book!

Nothing particularly new or relevant, just another book about trying to eat "good" things to have a better chance at a longer, healthier life, if God helps even better. Schematic and full of tips but there are no recipes.

THANKS NETGALLEY FOR THE PREVIEW!

The author, a committed life-long athlete offered a convincing tutorial for the reader in a way to gain or perhaps regain one's health. As carefully submitted, the benefits of having reduced body fat and an improved level of fitness through exercise are boundless. The voice of the narrative was not that of a lecturer but rather a coach. Armed to the teeth with useful information, Matt presented the material in an easy-to-read format.

A sorry state of affairs, most of the adult population in the United States is considered obese. With no stretch of the imagination, the number one culprit - food. It should come as no surprise. Poor food choices are notoriously responsible for packing on the extra unwanted pounds. In a straightforward way, the author proposed that there is a way to eat as much as you'd like without gaining any weight. In fact, embarking upon his recommended food regimen would actually result in a loss of weight. Sound too good to be true? Throughout the text, countless suggestions are listed for the road that leads to a better life through health. With emphasis, have no fear. This is not another fad diet book. Those that had already been down that road can attest to its failure. Just ask the 95% of the population that gone that route. Rather it's all about planning ahead and making the right decisions.

It's no secret that exercise is vital to good health. It all comes down to making it a priority. There's always plenty of time to squeeze it in even for the most busiest of us. Begin first by becoming your own cheerleader. Think positively. That's the key. The only thing possible that could prevent a positive outcome is ourself. Step-by-step, Matt lays out many options for starting with an exercise program. The choices are customizable and are practically endless. There's one for everyone.

The amount of rest that is required to avoid sustaining injury or burnout is known as the recovery period. Knowing when to rest is equally important as doing any exercises. When first beginning, it's advisable to start off a little on the easy side. So there you have it, the big three: nutrition, exercise and recovery. Hang in there and don't give up. The rewards you've been dreaming of are waiting for you. You'll be glad you did.

I offer my gratitude to NetGalley and Harvest House Publishers for this ARC exchange for an unbiased review.
