'Big Nate: Payback Time' by Lincoln Peirce is another collection of comics about the troublemaking sixth grader.

This time Nate tries to convince everyone that he is allergic to his teacher Mrs. Godfrey. He also dresses as Gina for Halloween. He also shows a new student how a seasoned veteran handles detention.

If you like Big Nate, you will like this collection. If you are new to Big Nate, you can easily start with any collection and see what your favorite middle-schooler is talking about.

Another great visit with Big Nate and other friends with great graphic novel illustrations. If you have enjoyed other Big Nate books then you'll enjoy this one too. If you haven't before then you'll find stories and character elementary age kids enjoy and relate to inside. It is interesting.

My students love Big Nate books and I knew this would be no different. It’s funny and a quick read. The comics go through Nate’s daily happenings at school and home such as crushes, teachers, school projects and more. This book doesn’t stay on my class library shelves for long.

This is my first read of any of the “Big Nate” comic books written by Lincoln Peirce and I found it absolutely hilarious!

Big Nate: Payback Time! Brilliantly handles issues with friendships, school, relationships and acceptance, as well as bullying, the survival of the not-as-popular and many others. Once I started reading about Nate and his friends I was enthralled and if you haven’t already been acquainted, I’m sure that you will love Nate, too!

I rated this four smiles!

Highly recommended for those in Middle Grade or for anyone who wants a good laugh and a short break from their usual reading.

I received a complimentary copy of Big Nate: Payback Time! at my own request, from Andrews McMeel Publishing via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

Collection #3000 or so of the long-running comic strip, featuring an almost-loveable grade school loser and his silly shenanigans.
As a former soccer goalie, I was a little insulted by the first plotline, but I’ll let it pass for now.
He wins more often than he has before, but Nate wouldn’t be Nate if he didn’t fall on his face all the time. But I like that he’s always optimistic, no matter how misplaced.
I’m so glad my father doesn’t watch YouTube. . .
Nate’s talking about how cool it would be to be a profiler while I’m watching Criminal Minds.
There isn’t much left to say. If you liked it before, you’ll like it now. If you’ve never seen it, it’s worth a try. Think of it as a slightly edgier Peanuts.

Once again, Lincoln Pearce gives us a great book with Big Nate as the protagonist. All of our favorites are here, Mrs. Godfrey (is Nate really allergic? Or is there something else going on?), Gina, Teddy, and Francis. There's even a newbie to detention that Nate tries to take under his wing with somewhat... dubious... results.

This is the first Big Nate book I have read, although I have purchased copies before for my middle school classroom library. It is always popular with my students, and I can see why.

Nate is a frustrated 6th grader who believes he is the greatest and no one understands him. It is funny reading about his experiences from a teacher's point-of-view because I know how my students can relate. Anyone of any age will enjoy reading this book and I definitely recommend to anyone who knows middle-school aged kids.

Another entertaining Big Nate story! My 9-year old was eager to read this with me and enjoyed it. This book covers the typical middle school occurrences including detentions, writing assignments and crushes. The level of vocabulary was slightly advanced for my 9-year old but would be fine for my 12-year old.

This collection of Big Nate comics shows off our naughty, narcissistic little hero in his best light - whether trying to get his social studies teacher Mrs. Godfrey fired because he's supposedly become allergic to her, to petitioning for a student lounge because the teachers get one for themselves, dressing up as classmate Gina for Halloween, schooling a newbie in how to make the most out of detention, or trying to break up Jenny and Arthur because he may (or may not) like Jenny. Oh, yeah, and the bully episode, as seen on the book cover; this reader's personal favorite. Nate, as usual, goes through the world from day to day acting like he owns it, and this collection is a funny, varied example of the little menace from PS 38 at his most maddening. Amazing, what this kid can talk or scheme his way out of; I wish I'd had half his skills in school. 4.5/5 stars

NOTE: I received a free ARC of this title from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review.

Yet another fun read in the Big Nate series. My son loves them, and he and I read this one together. There were a few chuckles, and I finally was able to confirm my son's explanation of why Big Nate has no dog yet Spitsy is always featured as though he were Nate's dog.

A few lessons were learned, mainly by those around Nate and anyone reading his story. The books aren't really there to teach necessarily, but I find they do a good job of that.

While not as cohesive as some of the other books, this pulling together of various strips still works.

Well drawn. Well written. Fun characters. Great read!

I was so excited when I saw this Big Nate book on Netgalley! We are huge fans of this series and super excited for a new one!

Big Nate always has his quirky little ways. Lol. I love the way that he and Ms. Godfrey battle with each other. I was really excited to see that there are several references to some real world stuff in this one as well. I think that young readers are really going to like that! Lincoln Peirce does an amazing job with keeping up to date on what the young readers are into these days.

A great hilarious read that young and old readers alike can enjoy! I know they did in this house! I can't wait for more of Big Nate and to see what he is up to next!

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All opinions are my own. Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book!

Thank you NetGalley for providing this digital ARC.

Big Nate: Payback Time! is a continuation of previous Big Nate books over the span of a school year with familiar characters and themes. Nate is every teachers worst nightmare. He’s highly intelligent, bored in school, and can be a royal pain in the rear. However, that being said, this text could also serve a good purpose for teachers to read to get insight on how these students think and how we could better reach them.

While it is not the most insightful or profound text, there are two things that make this book worth it:

Series books are the key to creating lifelong readers. This series is no exception.

Graphic novels, such as this one, is a gateway for reluctant readers to begin reading, and we should provide plenty of these type of texts in our classrooms to hook these readers.

*My kids LOVE Big Nate, so I thought I would let one of them review it for us. Here are the thoughts of one of my 9 year old boys Noah-

I was always a fan of the Big Nate book series, so I enjoyed the book a lot. I really liked when the people said "Behold the power of Chad" at different times of the book. I also loved the good illustrations. This will be the 38th(?) book in the series. (I just googled 'Big Nate books in order', counted them all, and then I counted this book on the list [because it was not on the list yet.]. That would be the 38th book.). The last thing I want to say is "Thank you for letting us look at this book"

I have always seen my teenaged, and as a pre-teen, daughter engrossed in this series but I never had the opportunity to actually read them. Boy do I regret taking so long to partake! Author, Lincoln Peirce, has really captured the essence of most pre-teens. I found myself literally laughing out loud. I would welcome anyone to enjoy this comic strip! You will be very very pleased indeed!

I see why kids gravitate towards this series. This set of stories is no exception. I couldn’t help but giggle at some of the stories, even as a teacher. A funny read for kids 9-12 years of age boys and girls alike.
