This is a sweet and wholesome book which, despite its charm and romantic theme, looks at serious issues such as unwed pregnancy, the pain of adoption, abandonment, loyalty, the need for parental presence in the home, leaving home, and putting aside pride to return. The reader is aware from the first few pages that Elijah and Grace should be together, but author Good takes the time to explore and work out various barriers in a satisfying way. One thing I really liked about this book is that it did not put those who choose the Amish faith on a pedestal. The people in this book have real issues with pride, unforgiveness, leaping to conclusions, and gossip, just as people everywhere do. The author does an excellent job of illustrating what love looks like for friends, neighbors, and even strangers through the actions of the characters in the story. Five stars for this interesting and refreshing book!
Recently widowed and pregnant Grace mourns the loss of her husband while trying to run a business and take care of two toddlers. Meanwhile, bachelor neighbor Elijah has sworn off women but helps Grace with chores, gardening, etc. Grace and Elijah develop a friendship as her children grow to admire Elijah. Well-written book with unexpected twists and turns. Not a "happy all the time" novel, but one filled with real-life family and community issues.
I've never been much into the Amish stories, but I wanted to try one and I'm glad I did. Such a heart felt story with second chances in love and families getting back together. The author did a beautiful job bringing the couple together. I look forward to reading more from Rachel J. Good.
Thank you NetGalley for a chance to read an early copy.
This story covers hard topics such as verbal abuse, postpartum depression and abandonment. Grace was a strong character that really had a hard time accepting help. I found it interesting that Elijah, with his sad background felt such a strong urge to help Grace. I liked that Miriam had matured enough to help Grace through her time of need. This story shows that with love, faith and encouragement, things will work out. God always has a plan for us. Recommended!

Rachel J. Good has done it again! She’s such an amazing writer and able to pull the reader in emotionally and also spiritually. I love her writing style.
Grace is a young mother who has recently suffered the loss of her husband & father of her kids. She runs a business making jam and (apparently) is doing quite well with the money she makes. [I never thought jam making was such a lucrative business...I may need to change life paths]. Her niece is helping her with the kids and her jam business.
Without giving too much away, this story is a sweet tale about stubbornness and how GOD can break down those walls and let love in.
This book really held my attention. I loved it. A story that was of love, kindness and understanding. And of life's disappointments, trials and happinesses and of second chances. Sometimes all of us need a second chance. This book was a page-turner and it was hard to put down.
The characters were wonderful as they cared for each other's needs and helped each other to heal and start again.
Well worth the read. Loved it!!!
I received an ebook copy from the author and NetGalley. All thoughts are my own
This is a wonderful story about second chances, faith, trust, and forgiveness. It is very well written and holds your attention until the end. If you have never read anything written by Rachel J. Good, you are in for a treat. I recommend this book to anyone who likes Amish fiction. Thank you Forever (Grand Central Publishing) via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
A thoughtful story about forgiveness and love, The Amish Widow's Rescue, was a book I fell in love with. The imagery of jam making, gardening, barns, and buggys put me right there in there in their midst. The descriptions of their tragedies and triumphs put me right there in their life.
Just about the time that you think you know everything that will happen, there was an event that was totally unexpected. It kind of took the story on a different curve than I previously thought.
A great lesson in this book was that life is sometimes not what we think it is and we need to hold off our judgement till we know the facts. A lesson that we all need to practice more.
A wonderful read.
This book was given to me by Netgalley. All opinions are my own.
Elijah Beiler couldn’t figure his neighbor out. She was recently widowed so he offered to gather her eggs and milk her cows. What he couldn’t figure out was, when he brought in the milk and eggs, she was always busy making jam. What kind of mother was she? Was making jam more important than caring for her two small children? This irritated Elijah to no end.
Melvin Fisher had changed since he lost his job. He became so ill-tempered little Levi was fearful of him. Grace had to do all the chores, inside and out, and she made jam to raise some money. When he died, she made even more because she didn’t want to depend on the community.
Not too long ago, I didn’t know anything about Rachel Good but, after reading one of her books, she’s now on my must-read list.
Read Grace’s story. Rachel will be on your must-read list too!
The Amish Widow’s Rescue was a gripping story from the beginning with all that Grace Fisher and her young children had endured. Elijah Beiler’s life had not been easy but he was determined to assist Grace and her children as any Amish neighbor would. The children looked up to Elijah but his past kept him on alert. There are really two plots in this story with each character being three dimensional as they are brought to life. Themes of trust, forgiveness and finding peace by praying will give way too unexpected turn of events that restored lives and brought second chances. This book is the third one in Good’s Love and Promises series but it can be read as a standalone. I recommend reading The Amish Teacher’s Gift and The Amish Midwife’s Secret to appreciate all the characters in this series and how they found forgiveness and new beginnings.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review; however, I have expressed my sincere thoughts.
I just finished The Amish Widows Rescue and was once again blown away by the the writing of Rachel Good. She continues to make her stories relatable to the reader.
In The Amish Widow Rescue we get to meet and love some wonderful characters like Grace Fisher, Elijah, and Graces children who you will just absolutely love. It is when Grace becomes a widow and Elijah steps in as a neighbor to help her out with chores. However, Elijah is judgmental at first and questions the way Grace is raising her children, but in reality it was his own fears and past that was haunting him.
If your looking for a good story that will make you want to turn the pages just a bit faster then I highly recommend this book. You will be taking a journey with each person in the book and find that love and forgiveness can bring much healing to the soul.
This was a great story of getting out of your comfort zone and helping a neighbor in need. It was also a reminder that what you see may not be what you perceive it to be..
Elijah Beiler is called to his neighbor's farmhouse where tragedy has struck. Grace Fisher finds herself indebted to Elijah who has gone above and beyond to help the young widow during a time of transition. Elijah is very judgemental of Grace and wants to wean himself away from her and her family but the more he tries, he watches Grace's life become more complicated.
This is a wonderful love story as well as a reawakening for Elijah as to why he has closed himself off to others.
Rachel Good touches on domestic abuse, also abandonment due to postpartum depression in this novel, something we don't normally associate with the Amish. It is an emotional read yet enjoyable. As with the previous books in this series, we catch up with other characters and find out how they have been doing. This is a stand alone book but I highly recommend reading the prior books because it makes the stories much more personal.
The Amish Widow’s Rescue ( Love and Promises #3 )
By: Rachel Good
The Amish Widow’s Rescue is book three in Love and Promises series. I was drawn in at the start and did not want to put it down. I felt sorry for these two Amish families. I caught myself with tears in my eyes several times. This is a story about leaving, forgiveness, and second chances. A woman who does not want to accept help from anyone. Elijah has been taught not to trust women ,but he wants to help his neighbor and her family. I really enjoyed this story and it was one of those page turners that you could not read fast enough to see what was going to happen next.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book by NetGalley and the publisher, but was not told that I had to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.
I liked the first Rachel J. Good book I read, so I wanted to read this one, too!
I was so eager to see how all the situations and conflict were resolved that I didn’t want to put this book down.
Rachel has such a wonderful way of describing her characters, their emotions, the surrounding sounds, scenery, and settings.
The way each character was introduced, kept you wanting to know more about each one.
Each character is believable and their struggles very relatable since all of us have experienced hurtful things in our past. Sadly, many of us have held on so tightly to our pain and anger that has often turned to bitterness that leads us to wrongly judge others.
I loved how Rachel gave us glimpses into the emotions and thoughts of the characters and the way the Lord was working in their lives to transform their thinking, thereby transforming their hearts and freeing them to forgive others and to love unconditionally!
NOTE: I received a complimentary copy of this book for reviewing from Rachel J. Good. I was not required to provide a positive review.
Two adorable children, a recent widow, who finds she is pregnant and alone, and a handsome neighbor who decides this family needs to be rescued and is willing to do chores on their farm. This charming story finds Elijah Beiler determined to never marry and have a family, but three-year-old Levi Fisher is pulling on his heartstrings. The reader wonders who really needs rescued! A signature characteristic of Author Rachel Good’s books is a thread of hope, forgiveness, and faith. This story will not disappoint. Check this one out whether you are a fan of Amish fiction or just want a feel-good story!
I was given a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions are my own.
A sweet story which shows how forgiveness and taking a risk can lead to true love. Trust can be hard to give when past circumstances have left sadness and regret. The story has interesting characters. I enjoyed reading this one. I received a complimentary copy. No review was required.
