I often feel that simple is better, and this book is proof of that. With a huge number of characters and lots of descriptions that are not really necessary for the story, this book is just too much. The plot is also pretty lame, but the story is well written if you have patience to read it all, like I did.
First, thanks to #NetGalley for the opportunity to read an e-galley of this book.
I really enjoyed this book! I'm a huge fan of Sidney Sheldon's books. I hadn't read anyof his books that Tilly Bagshawe had written, so I was thrilled to receive this one!
Nikkie Roberts is a psychologist who is still grieving the death of her husband a year later. While coping with that loss, Ms. Roberts is trying to compartmentalize her feelings for some of her patients.
Something is going on in Los Angeles, when people around Dr. Roberts start dying in horrible ways. 2 detectives are on the case, as well, Dr. Roberts hires a private detective who was hired 10 years ago to find their missing daughter. Everything is linked together, but who will discover the truth first?

This is a good mystery with many characters-each with his/her own agenda. At the center of all these divergent characters is Dr. Nikki Roberts, a psychologist who has recently lost her husband in a car accident and becomes involved with her patients both on a professional as well as on a personal level. This becomes problematic as one after another is found killed and she becomes convinced that her life is in danger. She hires a PI and involves the police who are trying to get to the bottom of a turf war between Russian and Mexican drug lords trying to gain control of the drugs coming into the country. It really comes down to who can you trust? An interesting mystery from Tilly Bagshawe continuing Sidney Sheldon’s legacy-a good read.

Author Tilly Bagshawe taking over where Sidney Sheldon left off with that she is taking a huge risk that didn't quite pay off as readers might have hoped. The authors voice is very different from Sidney Sheldon yet she is still able to create a strong woman lead who readers will be able to bond with. The book has too may characters that will cause readers to get lost with who is who. The story is very basic yet the author tries hard to make it come complicated than the story should be causing the story drag on leaving readers flipping pages to get back to the action and twist of the story.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the Advance Copy of Tilly Bagshawe Sidney Sheldon’s The Silent Widow.
As a long time reader of Sidney Sheldon, I was disappointed that this book was not quite him, however,Ms. Bagshawe did well on her on without using his name. For me the story was easily predicted after reading only a few chapters. Despite there being way too many characters at play, they were pertinent to the storyline. Characters were well executed despite none of them being particularly likeable.Seemed to be a lot of minutia and gore that could have been skipped. Not a feel good book, but readable.
Thanks to the author and publishers for an ARC. I received this book as a complimentary copy for an honest opinion. The opinions expressed are my own.
Imagine being in the middle of several people's deaths, and you are not the killer. Or are you.
Dr Nikki Roberts is a psychologist that's part of the lives of all the victims, but in which way.
Gripping read. Highly recommended.
I loved Sidney Sheldon in the 1970s (and 80s) . I haven't read Bagshawe's take on him before and I honestly have to wonder how I would have reacted to this had it been published under her name alone and with her own writing style. It is a twisty little thriller featuring Dr. Nikki, who is the target of a very bad man, and Derek Williams, a private investigator with his own back story. There are multiple threads, including drug cartels, the disappearance of a nanny, and other things. Thanks to netgalley for the Arc. This is a quick read that might be nice for a train or plane trip.
Sidney Sheldon's The Silent Widow by Sidney Sheldon; Tilly Bagshawe is a fast-paced thriller that I enjoyed. I always enjoyed Sidney Sheldon's books when he was alive, he has been dead for 12 years. Ms. Bagshawe does a good job following his style. The story moves at a fast pace and kept me guessing til the end with all the twists and turns! I recommend this book.
I reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and the publisher. Thank you.
This is a fantastic book. I have read many books by Sidney Sheldon and loved them. This book by Tilly Bagshawe writing for Sidney Sheldon was terrific. The book centers around, a psychologist Dr.Nikki Roberts whose patients keep getting killed. If you read the blurb, it starts off about ten years earlier about a young au pair from the United States who goes missing in Mexico, Now back to the present. Also, Dr. Nikki Robert’s husband gets killed in a car crash leaving his partner to carry on their business which is helping addicts recover. I don’t want to give away spoilers but you find out that the au pair who went missing 10 years ago ties into what’s going on right now. Drugs are the major thrust of this book including the Mexican cartel. Nikki even hires a PI to help her get answers because she feels the two detectives hired to her case are not getting her any results. There are so many twists and turns in this book, that I couldn’t put it down. Very well written and the author really connects all the aspects of the book and the corruption that is going on. I want to thank net galley for this ARC I received for a honest review. It was a terrific read. (less)
Incredible! The Silent Widow is a superb suspense mystery/thriller. I throughly enjoyed this book. This is a story of illegal drugs, gang wars, and murder. Nikki a widowed psychologist is trying to help her patients when several of her patients are murdered one by one. As the story unwinds, there are many surprises, twists and turns that make this an enjoyable read. It has a strong plot and good characters with tension building throughout the book. It was a really gripping page turner for me! A brilliant suspense thriller that I highly recommend! My thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for an advance copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
A mystery that will keep you engaged.
Nikki Roberts is a psychologist who is still grappling with the loss of her husband that happened one year prior when she is found to be a common link among some recent murder victims. With the police beginning to ask questions as well as suspect her, Nikki turns to a private detective to help find answers to the murders as well as answers to her husband's death. I have not previously read any Sidney Sheldon or Tilly Bagshawe books so I had no expectations going into the book and was pleasantly surprised when it kept my attention. Although not perfect, I found it a quick read and the plot was easy to pick back up on when I had to put it down. I can easily see it being a type of book you would pick up at an airport to help pass the time on a flight.

SIDNEY SHELDON’S THE SILENT WIDOW – Tilly Bagshawe

Mystery/Thriller

Brentwood, Los Angeles, California and Mexico – the Present
Psychologist Doctor Nikki Roberts listens to Lisa Flannagan, a narcissistic client she dislikes, ramble about how she is leaving her married billionaire lover but keeping the apartment he gave her along with all the expensive gifts. Nikki lost her own beloved husband a year previously and she hasn’t quite recovered, which might explain her antipathy towards Lisa. At the end of the session it is pouring rain and the Nikki offers the scantily clad Lisa her raincoat. Unknown to Nikki until later, Lisa is brutally murdered shortly after leaving the office, stabbed repeatedly until a fatal blow is delivered. Police detective partners come to interview Nikki. Mick Johnson is a gruff, overweight and bigoted detective, who believes Nikki is guilty. Detective Lou Goodman is a more polite man who finds the beautiful psychologist interesting and attractive. They return later when Trey Raymond, Nikki’s office assistant murdered in a similar manner. Nikki’s husband Doug had treated the young man like a son after getting him off drugs. The suspicion lands on Nikki.
Nikki, like the readers, will wonder what she did to have someone want her dead. After her bereavement, she only has four regular patients. Since one of them is dead, do the others have something to do with it? And what has this to do with the torture and murder of the man in the prologue or with the disappearance of a teenage Californian girl, Charlotte Clancy, working as an au pair in Mexico ten years ago? Why is Detective Johnson so biased against Nikki?
A Mexican versus Russian drug war is taking place in Los Angeles. Numerous rich and powerful characters are involved in illegal activities, one of whom targets Nikki. The two detectives operate nearly separate investigations that lead to unanticipated events. A convoluted but interesting story where many immoral characters border the line of sanity and many secrets are exposed.

I was always a big Sidney Sheldon fan. This is a story of drugs, murder, money laundering and then there is Nikki trying to help her patients not realizing the threat they are to her. Ten years ago an au pair in Mexico City has disappeared. Then Nikki's husband dies in a terrible traffic accident. Then a patient of Nikki's is killed as is another patient. The police seem to be at a loss as to what happened except that these people seem to be close to Nikki. There are many sides to this story and each has to be followed in true Sheldon fashion.
I haven’t read anything by Sidney Sheldon for many years and have never read anything by cowriter Tilly Bagshawe. This mystery thriller was riveting to the end. I liked the way the life of Nikki, the grieving psychotherapist was well woven into her part in several police investigations and the drug world. Not only that but we got to take a peek into the back story of several of her patients. There are some exciting plot twists in this book, and it had me guessing.
Bagshawe channels the Sheldon in this new release, The Silent Widow. Nikki wasn't my favorite character but as the story progressed she grew on me. This was a solid mystery and page turner.
I used to read Sidney Sheldon as soon as the book came out. So I was thrilled to see this. So many twists and turns in a book that kept me guessing. An enjoyable read and one I'd recommend. Thanks Netgalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Oh my gosh, what can I say, this has been an intensely absorbing and engrossing read, It captivates you holding you prisoner in its tightly gripping pages. Darn, it has been one exciting and intoxicating read, I’m breathlessly and totally entertained. A truly invigorating and amazing book.
An engrossing and well developed thriller, it was entertaining and enjoyable, a real page turner.
I like the style of writing and how the characters were developed.
The book is a real page turner, once you start you cannot put it down.
I look forward to reading other books by this writer.
Highly recommended!
Many thanks to Crooked Lane Books and Netgalley for this ARC. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book, all opinions are mine.
2.5 stars.
I had high expectations for this book but was very disappointed. I liked the base plot, that looked promising, the murders were interesting and intriguing.
Negative points for me were slow pace, weak main character and character development. Maybe because the pace is so slow at times, many of the twists towards the end are easily predictable. I was expecting crazy twists and a grabbing story but just found it very basic and predictable. Some important characters had a weak closure too, which was disappointing.
This is an average murder mystery thriller and despite all the problems it was still entertaining and readable.
Being a longtime fan of Sydney Sheldon, I was excited to read this book. I assumed by carrying on the legacy of such a prolific writer, I'd get the same Sheldon quailty. However I was slightly disappointed. While the writing was very good it wasn't great and while the story was entertaining it wasn't fantastic. I'd say new to this author readers will really enjoy this novel while longtime fans will have to adjust their thinking slightly. Those who frequently read this genre may not get quite the thrill but occasional readers will be entertained. Still very good novel and I'd definitely recommend.
