I loved this! I love that changing the way you talk to yourself and just being kinder has the power to change behavior…absolutely! Positive self talk, and self-compassion…needs to be practiced more for sure.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

I was looking forward to this book as the word Kindness is one I think about a lot.
As it turns out, the author of this book had some successful therapy and learned how to be grateful.
She gives us lessons. Her therapist gives her the thumbs up to write this based on groups she has
run so I'm not one to judge. I just found it bland writing and it's all been said before by some very eloquent people. This book was not to my taste.

How many times have you tried something new, failed, and yelled at yourself? What’s wrong with you? Nothing. Nothing is wrong with you. That’s the message that Shahroo Izadi wants you to get from The Kindness Method. This book has practical guide on how to treat yourself a little bit nicer.

I describe myself as a self improvement book junkie. This book goes on the top shelf. I enjoyed it and plan on purchasing it to keep and share. Thank you for the opportunity to review this book

I had a hard time getting into this book, but it had some good advice on being kind. I wasn't a huge fan of the book and found the way it was written hard to get through.

The Kindness Method
by Shahroo Izadi

A self-help guide, The Kindness Method is designed to help the reader to change habits. The thought behind this method is for us to giving ourselves permission to be kind to ourselves and to stop the battle of negative self-talk. The Kindness Method shows how maps are designed to help us break the damaging habits that rule our lives. Realistically, defining objectives in order to break negative habits and show compassion, forgiveness and kindness to ourselves. “Kindness” simply means by taking action to create your most enjoyable and exciting life.

The author Shahroo Izadi a Behavioral Change Specialist has created this method from her own personal experience and from working with her clients with addictions. Shahroo shares evidence of her personal life in the book and explains how keeping records on several topics, will help the reader to change a habit. The author Shahroo Izadi, shares her step-by step progression of using maps and journals to learn more about ourselves, then prepare to have the rich and fulfilling life wanted. Adding relapse prevention coaching, support groups at a recovery house, and has been delivering sold-out workshops designed to help people change any habit on their own terms. Her work has drawn attention around the world, as being a laid-back and non-judgmental style, rejecting all other traditional type of professional-patient dynamics.

I highly recommend Shahroo Izadi excellent book, The Kindness Method: Change Your Habits for Good Using Self-Compassion and Understanding. Her premise is that we should learn to be kind to ourselves, something that many people do not know how to do. The material in this book helps to provide an insight and gives us the tools we need to understand where we are and how to get where we want to be. We create our own plan, from the self-awareness process in the book, to change rather than what we are told what need by someone else; this may well be the most practical book on personal transformation. I received an advanced copy to read, and felt I should write an un-biased review of her work, giving her a 3.5-star rating.

This self-help book offers a different perspective on changing your unwanted habits, whether it’s excessive drinking, overeating, or just generally being unmotivated. Shahroo Izadi has quite literally mapped out ways to change, and through a snapshot letter to yourself, reminds you of the feelings that brought you to the place of change. We all have things we have tried to do, and did not succeed at, and this is an approach worth considering.

I felt the book was heavily slanted towards substance abuse issues, as the author stated most of her clients are alcohol abusers. However, I do feel that this method could be helpful in breaking unwanted habits if you were willing to put in the time necessary.

What a novel way to look at habit creation and sustenance.

Highly recommend to readers of Atomic Habits.

Wonderful book that should be mandatory reading for most of us. A book to promote kindness, self-love, change.

Thank you, NetGalley and St. Martin's Press, for a digital ARC.

"The Kindness Method" is about isolating and changing habits but also about working toward creating a life on purpose and of purpose that excited us. Indeed, I learned tons about my habits and how to make changes for my future self as I read this book.
I admit that I did want to quit reading this book several times. In places, I felt overwhelmed with the changes I need to make. But Shahroo Izadi includes plenty of practical examples from real life that helped me get back on track and stay motivated. And I took plenty of notes so that I can review the principles and maps as I need them in the future. The maps are also clearly explained with visual examples that show me how to do the beneficial exercises that produce change.
The Kindness Method is a sustainable way to change. I recommend it for anyone suffering from an addiction, habit or hangup. It can help readers identify the changes they want to make and identify specific steps to take to make those changes.

This book did not fit with me. I understand that you should be kind to everyone and that you should turn the other cheek the book just repeats the you should be kind. I just didn't get into it.

I just couldn’t get into this, and at risk of sounding odd—it was just too wordy to really be drawn in and really embrace the so called “kindness method.” I really wanted to enjoy this book but in the end I just couldn’t.

We all have habits. Habits are hard to break. This book helps with teaching ourselves to get out of our old ways and break those habits for a happy healthy life. I felt like this book was geared more towards addictions, however, everyone can take something from this book and use in everyday life.

I was given an arc from Netgalley in return for an honest review.

I wanted to like this book. I was hoping for a book about how kindness can change the world and then practical steps (a "method") of how to start. As a busy mom (working, homeschooling, volunteering) I wanted something quick not something that required a lot of introspection and theory. I tried reading the book straight through. Then I tried skipping to various chapters. In the end, I did not finish it. The description states, "From procrastination to issues of body image, this method works by creating a custom plan—mapped by you, for you, and driven by self-motivation." So maybe I just was not self-motivated enough to create my own map?

I follow the GoodReads rating system.
1 star – didn’t like it
2 stars – it was OK
3 stars – liked it
4 stars – really liked it
5 stars – it was amazing; I’ll read it over and over and/or it will impact my daily life.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley. I was not required to give a positive review. The thoughts and opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

We are so hard on ourselves! We carry around guilt and shame regarding our bad habits - the kind of guitl and shame we would never inflict on a friend. THE KINDNESS METHOD shows you the path to breaking bad habits and releasing the cloud of guilt and shame that surrounds you. Izadi lays out concrete methods of tracking your habits and slowly moving away from them while treating yourself like you would your best friend. this would be a wonderful gift for anyone you know who struggles with weight, drugs, alcohol and smoking but it is also a great reminder to love ourselves, really love who we are in this very moment. and that is powerful.

Great book! Highly recommend it, both for those suffering with addictions of all sorts and for those close to them. The work of recovery is hard, and the mapping method described in this book is developed with the long struggle in mind.

The Kindness Method by Shahroo Izadi is a well-researched addition to the typical self-help section of the bookstore.

I have to make a confession. This one took me way longer to finish than it should have. I actually put it down pretty early deciding that the book wasn't for me.

Here's why:
Shahroo Izadi is a Behavioral Change Specialist. She studied Psychosocial Sciences and Psychology, and her work has almost completely involved drug addiction and recovery work. She talks A LOT about this in the first chapters. So, me being me, decided that the book was for that audience despite what the synopsis described, and it wasn't going to help me.

Luckily, I decided to read a bit more later. What I found was a book that was clear and practical. Her "maps" were extremely useful. The exercises were motivating and helped me to learn more about my personal needs.

I also learned this: Drug addiction, alcoholism, and overeating are just some ways that people deal with the problems that most of us face on a daily basis. This book taught me that I can't approach solutions with an, "It's not for me because I'm not like that," attitude. This author explains that being judgment-free and helping someone increase self-esteem, self-belief, and self-awareness is how we all stop negative behaviors.

I thought this was a great book to help someone looking to break old habits or start new ones. I think it provides a great framework and workable process for making changes. To often we have great intentions but ultimately set ourselves up for failure because we're too busy looking at the big picture. This book provides stepping stones, or the small actions, that will get you the results you're looking for.
