As the author says, it doesn't matter what your goals are, this book can help you create the habits you need to reach them. I liked that the author suggested reading the exercises out loud to yourself after completing them because the intention is for it to be a private therapy session. That was a novel way for me to approach self-improvement reading. I also thought the actual exercises were helpful and a bit different than in other self-improvement books I've read. They provided me with a tangible plan and reminders of why that plan is important. I can definitely see myself revisiting this book in the future, and I hope others will, too.

This is an approach to personal transformation I have not seen before. I like it. I like her focus on movement toward who I want to be rather than away from the parts of me I don't like. I like her thought provoking map sessions. Even though I have read a ton of personal development books, I still learned something about myself with her exercises. I like how she helps us develop a plan based on our learning who we are, what motivates us and makes us feel authentic. I really liked her section on internal chatter. I liked permission to be kind to myself.

Izadi believes that each of us has the ability to become our best self. The material in this book provides the insights and tools we need to understand where we are and how to get where we want to be. We design our own plan based on what we learn through the self awareness process in the book. Creating our own plan helps us be much more invested in change rather than if we are told what needs to be done by someone else.

Izadi points out that The Kindness Method is not a replacement for counseling. If going through the work uncovers something a reader thinks needs deeper work, she encourages incorporating professional help into the plan.

This may well be the most practical book on personal transformation I have read. Completing the exercises was a very insightful process and one I think I'll repeat. The process takes work but it is well worth it as I think it will produce lasting change.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.

Written in a clear and concise style, The Kindness Method is a readable and easy to understand method for creating change in our daily life. Within The Kindness Method are a series of exercises that help provide a guide for change and help to shed light on all the ways your current behaviors are setting you up for failure.

Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read and review this title. All opinions are my own.

This is a non-traditional self-help book, quite unique in presentation. The core tenant is to treat oneself with kindness and compassion. The method is designed to help the reader change a habit for good, by making permanent positive shifts in the way they think and live. This isn't a quick fix, and the work outlined is quite involved. There are mind mapping exercises given that are designed to give the reader permeant tangible guidance and physical reminders of the work she's done. The writing is straightforward, overwhelmingly positive and kind. It's also very no-nonsense. In that sense, it won't be for everyone because it requires there Nader to take habit change seriously and put in a lot of work. I took great guidance from this book that I will use on a regular basis.

I very much enjoyed interacting with the author's "Map" approach to habits. As a result, I will incorporate the use of mapping into many facets of my life. The most salient factor for me here is the need to compare one map to another and finding the overlaps. In those intersections, I was able to mine gold from the rocks that lay there. I certainly recommend everyone try this approach to understanding and analyzing their lives and behaviors. As a result, you will understand others better and be able to bond or resist on a more informed basis of recognition.

How many times have you tried a new diet, blown the new diet, and yelled at yourself? Or what about drinking- tired of the hangovers? But, it’s so hard to stop drinking. What’s wrong with you?

Nothing. Nothing is wrong with you. That’s the message I learned from author Shahroo Izadi who has written an excellent book, The Kindness Method- Change Your Habits for Good Using Self-Compassion and Understanding. She has worked as a drug counsellor and also has faced a weight challenge, so she knows how to focus on changing habits.

Her premise is that we should show compassion, forgiveness and kindness to ourselves. When we have trouble making a life change, it’s not because we are “bad”, or “weak” or “lazy.” Would you say those words to other people? Please don’t say them to yourself! Instead, learn to be kind to yourself.

“Kindness” means taking action to create your most enjoyable and exciting life. Look at the big picture! “Kindness” is not following for the latest fad or quick-fix. With friendly, understanding language, the author shares her step-by step process of using maps and journals to learn more about yourself and prepare to have the rich and fulfilling life you want.

Shahroo Izadi is a Behavioral Change Specialist. She provides relapse prevention coaching and support groups at a recovery house for young women in addition to delivering sold-out workshops designed to help people change any habit on their own terms. Her work has drawn attention from BBC Radio 1, The Telegraph, Red Magazine, The Pool, and more. Her laid-back, non-judgmental style that rejects the traditional professional-patient dynamic has proven to be a huge success and her ambition is to make evidence-based psychological tools accessible to the public.

The Kindness Method is a self-help guide to help you change a habit permanently. The author created this method from her experience of working with clients with addictions and her own experiences. Her idea is that we give ourselves permission to be kind to ourselves and combat the negative self-talk. The author shares personal testimony throughout the book and explains how mapping on various topics will help you change. These maps area designed to help us break the negative habits that rule our lives. We need to set realistic, clearly defined goals in order to break these negative habits. I highly recommend this book. Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

The Kindness Method is a self-help guide to help you change a habit permanently and I’m not entirely sure if it does. There was an awful lot of waffle

This is a compelling book to read. I already feel that it helps me to give myself a break and treat myself much better. The words that are written are very deliberate and really resonate with the reader. I would recommend this book to everyone, but especially those that are hard on themselves when they have failed at things in the past.

I don't think that I can speak highly enough about this book and the author. Through her writing I felt like I was with her in a therapy session, and that she was helping me to become the me I'm meant to be. The best version of myself. It has been quite eye-opening and I have come to some realisations about my behaviour and why I am sabotaging certain aspects of my life and myself. I read this book alongside a friend, who had her own reasons for doing reading, and we both were somewhat enlightened and surprised by what we learned.

Through actively completing the maps I now have a go to resource when I need a boost (I have taken photos on my phone so that I literally can check in on the maps at any time and anywhere). Having a practical take-away from a book is fantastic and something that I will try to to continue - making maps about important events or feelings that I have towards things I have to participate in and those that I can choose to.

I would read anything that the author writes in the future - I feel like this book is only the beginning and that there is so much I can still learn about myself using the supportive techniques provided. I would recommend to everyone.

I received a free copy of an egalley in exchange for an honest review. I will also say that I have now purchased a physical copy in addition to having the ecopy because I wanted to have a physical copy to flick through in times of need.

The Kindness Method is a unique self help book that is non judgemental and doesn't treat your issues like failures. Self motivation, tools, and self kindness.

The Kindness Method is the key to breaking unwanted habits—for good! Combining her own therapeutic style, personal experiences, and techniques learned from working in the field of substance abuse, Shahroo Izadi shares simple steps that strengthen your willpower like a muscle, allowing you to sustain your motivation and make lasting change in your life.

Shahroo’s completely non-judgmental process for mapping and channeling your habits is based on the principle of treating yourself with the compassion and understanding that it is often only reserved for other people. From procrastination to issues of body image, this method works by creating a custom plan—mapped by you, for you, and driven by self-motivation.

I love how she talks about not beating yourself up and to kind to yourself like you would a friend. Often we are our own toughest critic and that will not help us improve ourselves. I can see where this method would help with substance abuse, but that is not something I struggle with. I really hope this book can assist others to make the change in their lives that are looking for. Where I'm not sure this book was quite for me, I can see how it may be helpful to others.

The Kindness Method is a self-help book meant to help you change or break a habit. I felt like there was an awful lot of fluff before the author got to anything of substantial or groundbreaking insight. Although, this book seems to be more geared toward people with addictions, so perhaps I’m not the target audience.

Lovely, practical book that gives advice about how the reader can change habits (create new ones; eliminate old ones). A unique take on self-help and one that I think can be widely used.

Being "kind" to oneself can be accomplished in some many ways and levels, it's also very hard to do. Especially constantly

I have long believed in the power of self-kindness to instigate personal change and am delighted to find this book which explains why and how in beautiful detail. The author is really on to something here. The information and suggested changes are simple yet life changing!

This is a self help book with a difference. It's not a book that encourages you to bin all the ones you've read before, but allows you to build this into what you already do.
It's clear and well written, with no waffle that people won't and don't read: I find it comforting to be given a background about the author.
