I really enjoyed this book. It started out a little slow, but I soon got hooked by the twists and turns. I look forward to reading more by this author.

The First Mistake is a book about 4 main characters. Alice is the mother of 2 girls and a successful owner of an interior design firm. Nathan is her second husband and the father of her youngest child. Beth is her very best friend. Tom is Alice’s first husband who disappeared on a skiing trip and has been presumed dead for 10 years. As the story unfolds Sandie Jones leads you down the paths she wants you to follow. You question Alice’s sanity and her devotion to her dead husband. You question the motives and the secrecy of her best friend. You question the love and loyalty of Nathan. And, you question if Tom is really dead. But, the paths she leads you down don’t stay straight. They twist and turn and seem to get tied in knots until you really have no idea who is who and what is really happening or why? This one will keep you up all night trying to figure out what is really going on.

Received a copy of this book on Net Galley as an ARC for an honest review. Sandie Jones has written a tale of lies and deceit. Alice and Beth are good friends who enjoy a night out together and don’t keep secrets.... until they release they DO! Alice has worked hard to rebuild her life after the deviating loss of her husband Tom. Nathan arrives in her life and they begin to build a future together. As Alice works to rebuild her life she can’t help but remain suspicious of Nathan’s love for her family and his faithfulness. As the plot twists and turns the reader becomes aware life is not as it seems. Maybe Nathan is not totally faithful.

Interesting read. I will look for more from this author

Alice and Beth like to enjoy a glass of wine together now and again, which is rare for Alice to have friendship that means so much to her. After her husband died tragically in a skiing accident years ago, she has tiptoed quietly around life, determined to keep herself and her daughters safe from harm. When Beth divulges an impossible to believe scenario, that her daughter's father who abandoned them both when Beth was pregnant, has the same birthday and name as Alice's deceased husband, both women's lives are thrown into tumultuous somersaults. Can it really be true? And is Tom still alive somewhere, like social media is indicating? Jones' follow up to the successful The Other Woman, is extremely enjoyable, while at the same time, tense like a good thriller should be. Expect to not be able to stop reading. Fans of psychological thriller authors like Ruth Ware, Paula Hawkins, and Shari Lapena will eat this up.

Alice is devastated after the sudden loss of her first husband, Tom. As a form of medication, she quickly falls in love and marries Nathan. Alice, a successful businesswoman, juggles motherhood, a career, and what seems like a successful marriage while still coping with the loss of her first husband. However, deception creeps into her marriage, and one of her children's relationships and social mannerisms, while Alice struggles with her own mental health issues.

Overall, this book has a great plot line. I feel like some of the characters and their relationships are not fully developed or realistic. For example, Alice has a best friend named Beth. However, I found it ironic that Beth has never met Alice's husband after a couple of years of a close friendship. Also, Alice meets up with an old boyfriend to discuss business in one of the early scenes in the book, but his character really does not play a role in the plot.

I would still recommend reading it and truly enjoyed it. I just wish some of the "holes" were filled in.

Thank you NetGalley for an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I was a huge HUGE fan of "The Other Woman" so when I saw her newest book The First Mistake up for request via Netgalley, I jumped on it. I was so excited to get approved. I don't want to give too much away, but Alice (who is the main character) is married to her 2nd husband with two daughters. Her best friend Beth is there for her. All in all she seems to live a good life. But its not always what it seems. Her daughter is being bullied and there is the matter of her first husband as well.

Told by the point of few of Alice and Beth, the book is full of twists and turns!

I liked the domestic part of the thriller better than the plot twist aspects. The book was well written and stylized, suspension of disbelief really
doesn’t hit until after the epilogue. The fun was all in how I would rewrite the book focusing on Alice and her family with first husband Tom..
I really wasn’t a fan of the Nathan/ Beth /storyline. three and a half star break from reality otherwise

THE WIFE: For Alice, life has never been better. With her second husband, she has a successful business, two children, and a beautiful house.

HER HUSBAND: Alice knows that life could have been different if her first husband had lived, but Nathan’s arrival into her life gave her back the happiness she craved.

I received a copy of from NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion. Thank you to the author and publisher for the opportunity.

5 Stars and here’s why:

Psychological thrillers are my jam and Ms. Jones delivers. THE FIRST MISTAKE captured my attention from the get-go. The author is a master storyteller. The book’s plot twists and turns made my brain blow a fuse trying to figure out how this story would end. Every nuance makes sense, or so you think, and then bam! Total whiplash trying to keep my wits about me while reading THE FIRST MISTAKE! This is my second book by Sandie Jones, and I have to say, she’s at the top of my must read all of her books list.

If you like mind-blowing writing, a plot-driven story with psychological intrigue giving you a total book hangover, and well-developed characters hijacking your mind for days afterward, then this book is definitely for you. Highly recommend.

Thank you, Net Galley, for this book for an honest review.

This book was slow to start. It has a lot of developing to do and a complicated backstory. Once this part is done the book takes off. Who is who? Alice was married to Tom who died and now is married to Nathan. Her best friend Beth is raising her daughter alone. As the book progresses, there is a lot of mystery and what is the truth.

I must say I usually can figure out a book and where it is going. This one I did not get a glimmer until the end and I still was surprised.

A good book. Would have loved an epilogue

What a wild ride this book was! I’m desperate for it to come out so I can discuss the ending with other readers. In the meantime, if thrillers are your thing, grab a copy of The First Mistake. With lots of twists and turns, even when you think you have it figured out, trust me, you don’t.

I was intrigued by this story. Alice’s first husband has died, and she is forging a new life with her children and her present husband, Nathan. She is also a successful interior designer, and owner of a company As Alice narrates her story and the decisions, she made that ultimately brought her to this place

in her life. I learned about Alice her first husband and her present husband. My main thought was, how can someone keep making bad choices? While Alice was a likable character, she was also frustrating because she kept making poor decisions .

There was a subplot with Alice’s friend Beth which collides for a twist I didn't see coming.

Thank you Net Galley for the chance to read an early copy of The First Mistake. This was my first Sadie Jones Book, and I’m very excited to read The Other Woman now.

Alice is your typical woman trying to juggle it all with two daughters, a successful interior design business, and a doting husband, Nathan.

Nathan is Alice’s second husband, her first husband, Tom, was killed in a skiing accident 10 years prior.

Beth is Alice’s bestfriend who is raising her daughter as a single mother after being left for another woman.

The author wastes no time at all, and soon you’re questioning Nathans faithfulness, Beth’s mysterious past, and whether Alice’s first husband, Tom, is really dead!

I love a book that has twists and turns, and this psychological thriller did not disappoint! Just when I thought I had it figured out, the plot thickens!

I enjoyed this book! 4 stars!

This is my first book by Sandie Jones and it sure was a page turner! I thought the twists were great and unexpected. My only criticism is that I don't like reading bedroom scenes. Beth's view point half-way through the book was a little raunchy for my Victorian tastes! That being said, it was not explicit or I would have stopped reading. Overall a highly addictive read. 3.5 stars. Thanks so much publisher, author, and Netgalley for providing electronic ARC.

I was driving myself crazy waiting for this book to come out. Once I saw that Sandie Jones had a new book on the way, I began stalking my favorite sites looking for more information. I loved her writing in The Other Woman and had a good feeling about The First Mistake. My intuition was spot on, this novel was excellent!

Though Alice’s first husband died tragically, she now has everything from a wonderful second husband to two perfect children and a lovely home. Her best friend Beth is always there for her, Alice couldn’t ask for a better friend. And when Alice begins to suspect something is going on with her husband, its Beth who she turns to. As her suspicions about Nathan grow, she starts to wonder, can she trust Beth?

Here is what I wrote on GoodReads:

I really enjoyed the first novel Sandie Jones wrote so I knew I’d like this one too. It did not disappoint! A fantastic story told from the perspectives of two women. The first half was good but the second part had me turning pages quickly and staying up way past my bedtime to finish. Twists and turns galore. A heart-pounding ending! This is everything you want in a suspenseful novel.

Another fantastic book!

Due out in June.

I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley.

On a positive note, the book had many twists and turns that kept the reader interested.

Unfortunately, this story revolves around situations that are implausible and characters who fail to react reasonably. By the end, the reader wonders how both Alice and Beth continued to ignore serious problems even after "mistakes" were uncovered.

The First Mistake by Sandie Jones. Sorry to say that I never really related to the characters, Alice just assumed the worst in every situation.. An interesting premise but it got confusing with all the "twists" in the story.

Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.

I enjoyed reading it.

Alice has two daughters, an attentive and supportive husband, and a successful interior design business that she built with her first husband, who passed away many years prior in an accident. She's finally gotten to a point where she can move on in life, thanks to her husband Nathan and her best friend Beth. But suddenly, little things start happening that cause her to question her relationship with her adoring husband and also her always supportive best friend, and Alice finds her idyllic live suddenly getting turned upside down again. Who can be trusted?

Early on in the book, I thought I had a pretty good idea how this was going to end up. Well, I was wrong! It kept me guessing as new details came to light, and pretty sure my mouth actually gaped open in surprise at one point towards the end! Highly recommend reading if you are a fan of psychological thrillers and suspense, this will be a hot book this summer I'm sure! I haven't yet gotten around to reading her first book, The Other Woman yet, but after reading The First Mistake, I'm moving it up on my TBR list!

Thanks to @netgalley and the publisher for an early review copy. This book will be published June 11, 2019.
