Holy WOW! Sandie Jones has done it again. A book that hooks your mind in a death hold, from beginning until end. Another must read for my fellow thriller fans. She has such a style, which absolutely makes sure to twist your mind into a giant pretzel. Lots of thrills, chills, and twists & turns.
Will be highly recommending, using in a challenge, and buzzing it up in Chapter Chatter Pub!
Wow, is all I can say. Have never read anything from author Sandie Jones before, but will be looking to read a lot more in the future. Great story about friendship, romance, marriage, lies, deceit, trust all wrapped up with suspenseful twists. Could not put this book done until was done reading!
I read this one in 24 hours and this book is the real meaning of a page-turner! I thought her first book was amazing, and this one is equally as amazing! The suspense keeps building and I was never sure who was lying, who was just nuts, or who was genuine! Alice’s first husband, Tom, died (although his body was never found) and she had idolised him. Then she meets and marries Nathan and her world is happy again, or is it? Nathan behaves suspiciously and Alice is not sure what it means. I just loved, loved that ending! I will make sure I do not miss her next book!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Having loved The Other Woman, I had high expectations for this one and dare I say I liked it even better! Alice lost her first husband, Tom in a skiing accident years ago and is now happily married to Nathan. But when she begins to discover clues of his infidelity and he swears it's all in her head, she turns to her best friend, Beth. But of course things are never as they seem, and Alice finds her life turned upside down as she begins to uncover the secrets lurking beneath the surface of this idyllic marriage. Do you trust your husband or best friend? Can the past ever stay in the past or is there always something suspicious about unanswered questions? Jones is a master story teller with twists at every turn that had me gasping for breath as I tried to put together all the pieces to this puzzle. And oh, what an ending! If psychological thrillers are your jam, then pre-order this one today! Out June 11.
Sandie Jones has out done herself on The First Mistake
If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would .
As you start the book, there is a false sense of security for the reader who will be convinced okay I know where this is going. At least I thought that.
I could not have been more wrong !!
This book had twists and turns and you soon start flipping those pages to see if Alice will come out unscathed. What is Beth up to or Nathan ?
Thanks to Net Galley and the publishers for the opportunity of reading The First Mistake
This book will stay with you after you put down.
The First Mistake, the latest thriller by Sandie Jones, is a twisting, turning tale of friendship, love and betrayal. I thought I had the ending all figured out only to have my theories turned upside down and tilted sideways. I thoroughly reading this. If you enjoyed The Other Woman, I think you’ll like The First Mistake even more.
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review. This is the second book I've read by Sandie Jones, it did not disappoint. This thriller had me staying up late and waking up early to finish it. I loved the twists and turns and the so many "I wonders". I truly enjoyed this book, will be recommending to friends and family once it's published. This is a must read!
I read The Other Woman and could not put it down, so when I heard about The First Mistake I knew I had to read it. I devoured this book in two days!! Alice is married to her second husband Nathan and running a thriving design business. After finding a few clues that lead her to think that Nathan is having an affair things quickly spiral out of control. This was a twisty, compulsive read!!
This book was an absolutely page turner. This is my second book by Sandie Jones. The first one was The Other Woman which was fantastic but in this book, The First Mistake Sandie Jones has outdid herself. As you know from the blurb, about Alice and what happened to her and then there is this supposed best friend who definitely has another agenda. As the book progresses, you begin to understand more when you get to Beth’s story. This book has more twists and turns and intrigue and suspense which keeps one reading to the finish. I do not want to give away any spoilers but even in the last chapter there is another twist. I highly recommend this book if you love psychological thrillers. Bravo to Sandie Jones on a terrific, page turning book and thanks to net galley for this ARC I received for an honest review. This book was an absolutely page turner.
Great fast paced book! The twists and turns kept me guessing. I swore I knew what was really going on and I was completely and utterly wrong. I really enjoyed reading this and stayed up way too late to finish it. I really enjoyed this author and plan to read her other book (The Other Woman) now too.
(I plan to post this review on Goodreads/ Amazon once the book is published.)
Sandie Jones did it again! When I read The Other Woman (before it was Reese's pick), I was obsessed with it. I feel the same way with this one. The best part was the fast paced nature of the book. She jumps in with almost a chick-lit grab and then it just starts getting a bit more worrisome that Alice's life isn't as perfect as she thinks.
Then the reveals start happening. I have to say that I figured out a few things, but I didn't catch the big reveal at the end. I loved it and will recommend to all of my friends.
Thanks netgalley for this advanced reader copy for my review!
My appreciation goes out to Minotaur Books and Netgalley for an early read of this title which goes public in June. Alice’s first husband died in a skiing accident. Her second, Nathan, makes her very happy and they even work together at the same company. Beth, her best friend and Alice share trials and tribulations, so when Nathan starts acting weird, Alice discusses what he’s doing with best. But who should you trust? If anyone.
Sandie Jones knows how to write a psychological thriller and do it well. She leads you down one path, only to pepper it with detours. Most reviewers have read this book in one sitting. I can’t do that with anything, but it’s definitely a novel that keeps you coming back to find out what happens and who is the guilty one or ones. I thoroughly enjoyed “The First Mistake” and can’t wait for Jones’ next thriller.
The First Mistake by Sandie Jones ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thank you @netgalley and @stmartinspress for this ARC!

Review:
I’ve heard nothing but positive reviews about Sandie Jones and I was pleased to find out that they were all right! This book was easy to get into, was a quick read, and was thrilling from beginning to end. Some thrillers are so predictable...you know from the beginning what will happen in the end. This one definitely wasn’t that way. It kept me guessing til the end! If you enjoy thrillers with strong female characters, a good mystery, and a few people who aren’t who they seem, this is the book for you! Another highly recommended book!!!
.
This book is so good! I read it in a day because I could not put it down! I love the writing style of Sandie Jones, the book just flows really well which made it a super quick read that kept my attention the entire time. I really liked the way the stories of both Alice and Beth were presented because it had me trying to figure out how everything tied together. I was sure I had figured out about half way through, but to my surprise the twists just kept coming. This is one of those books that has you thinking “just one more chapter”, then 2 hours later you’re still at it. Definitely pick this one up if you’re looking for an unputdownable reads with twists that will keep you guessing until the last page!
5 enormous stars!! Sandie Jones has done it once again! Oh my goodness, I predict that The First Mistake will be one of the top summer reads of 2019! I adore suspense novels that shock me Sandie Jones has managed to blow me away with both of her novels. The storyline was brilliantly thought out and the pacing was perfect, Sandie Jones does a great job putting twists and turns in the absolute perfect spots! I found myself on the edge of my seat until the last page! I recommend The First Mistake to EVERYONE- a true 5 star read!
Oh my goodness—this book literally defines what it means to be a page turner! I did not and frankly could not put down this book once I started reading. It was full of twists and a big surprise at the end which I did NOT see coming. I highly recommend this book and am so impressed with the author! I read Sandie Jones’ other book “The Other Woman”, which I also loved.
Alice: a mother and wife who lost her husband. She's trying so hard to overcome her fear of her children being orphans. At the same time, she's trying to keep her husband's dream alive with expanding her interior designing company.
Nathan: Alice's second husband who is always being compared to a ghost.
Beth: Alice's best friend. A single mother who is trying to raise her girl with what little she has.
The story line follows very much the same as Sandie Jones' last novel. It is twisted to the point on non-recognition. When you think you know something, it's not even the opposite but something completely different. I don't like Alice as a protagonist. She's weak and helpless all the way until the end. It's a wonder that she's even alive. It's frustrating. It was a great read.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read this fabulous ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was my first read by Sandie Jones and it won't be my last! This is a very interesting story, full of twist and surprises that I didn't see coming. Alice has lost her husband Tom to a tragic accident and remarried to Nathan. She has a good job, two lovely daughters and a best friends she adores. She is still dealing with the loss of her husband in the past and she has been trying to move forward in her second phase of life. Things start to get a bit confused for her when strange things happen that cause her to questions her husband's faithfulness. It's hard to discuss this story without giving things away, but as they story progresses, the reader is sucked in to the twists that author throws in and is left wondering what is truly going on. This is a thrilling novel and kept me guessing (and up way to late reading)! Thank you netgalley for an arc of this story in exchange for my honest opinion.
What an incredible novel! It pushed all the right buttons for me. I enjoyed the book tremendously, and felt the character development was done perfectly. I strongly recommend the book to all the readers that enjoyed The Other Woman.
I may have done backflips when I got the advanced copy for this novel (not really I have no clue how to do a backflip but if I could I would have 😂). I absolutely loved The Other Woman by Sandie Jones and was thrilled to read her new book and of course it was fantastic!! You don’t wanna miss this!! Absolutely a must read! Perfect for by the pool!
Alice has two daughters, an attentive and supportive husband, and a successful interior design business that she built with her first husband, who passed away many years prior in an accident. She's finally gotten to a point where she can move on in life, thanks to her husband Nathan and her best friend Beth. But suddenly, little things start happening that cause her to question her relationship with her adoring husband and also her always supportive best friend, and Alice finds her idyllic live suddenly getting turned upside down again. Who can be trusted?
Early on in the book, I thought I had a pretty good idea how this was going to end up. Well, I was wrong! It kept me guessing as new details came to light, and pretty sure my mouth actually gaped open in surprise at one point towards the end! Highly recommend reading if you are a fan of psychological thrillers and suspense, this will be a hot book this summer I'm sure! I haven't yet gotten around to reading her first book, The Other Woman yet, but after reading The First Mistake, I'm moving it up on my TBR list!
Thanks to @netgalley and the publisher for an early review copy. This book will be published June 11, 2019.
I received a copy of from NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion. Thank you to the author and publisher for the opportunity.
5 Stars and here’s why:
Psychological thrillers are my jam and Ms. Jones delivers. THE FIRST MISTAKE captured my attention from the get-go. The author is a master storyteller. The book’s plot twists and turns made my brain blow a fuse trying to figure out how this story would end. Every nuance makes sense, or so you think, and then bam! Total whiplash trying to keep my wits about me while reading THE FIRST MISTAKE! This is my second book by Sandie Jones, and I have to say, she’s at the top of my must read all of her books list.
If you like mind-blowing writing, a plot-driven story with psychological intrigue giving you a total book hangover, and well-developed characters hijacking your mind for days afterward, then this book is definitely for you. Highly recommend.
THE WIFE: For Alice, life has never been better. With her second husband, she has a successful business, two children, and a beautiful house.
HER HUSBAND: Alice knows that life could have been different if her first husband had lived, but Nathan’s arrival into her life gave her back the happiness she craved.
Thank you to net galley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this book it was a great experience first time reading anything from this author
WOW!! This book was such a page turner with twists at the end that I definitely did not expect! Sandie Jones is one of my new favorite authors! Great book!
I received an advanced reader copy of this book and am voluntarily reviewing it.
Alice and Beth like to enjoy a glass of wine together now and again, which is rare for Alice to have friendship that means so much to her. After her husband died tragically in a skiing accident years ago, she has tiptoed quietly around life, determined to keep herself and her daughters safe from harm. When Beth divulges an impossible to believe scenario, that her daughter's father who abandoned them both when Beth was pregnant, has the same birthday and name as Alice's deceased husband, both women's lives are thrown into tumultuous somersaults. Can it really be true? And is Tom still alive somewhere, like social media is indicating? Jones' follow up to the successful The Other Woman, is extremely enjoyable, while at the same time, tense like a good thriller should be. Expect to not be able to stop reading. Fans of psychological thriller authors like Ruth Ware, Paula Hawkins, and Shari Lapena will eat this up.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Beyond amazing I enjoyed this book so very much. The characters and storyline were fantastic. The ending I did not see coming Could not put down nor did I want to.
Early on I thought I had the plot figured out, nope, not then and not until the very end. That’s how much it kept me guessing and reading well into the night and next day.. Easy to read, well developed characters, I loved this read and can’t wait for the next one by this author.
THE FIRST MISTAKE has all the points of the kind of mystery that I like. No blood and gore but a psychological thriller. After Tom dies and is never recovered, Alice has Avery difficult time surviving until she meets Nathan. Nathan helps her hrough a very rough period in her life. But suddenly, things become quite confusing when items show up from another or other women. Nathan convinces Alice that someone is setting him up.
Alice meets Beth. They become best friends and Alice feels like she can talk th beth about her situation because she had been through a tough time herself. And then beth and Nathan met. That reall complicated relationships.
This book was great! Fast paced and kept me turning the pages. I loved the Other Woman by Sandi Jones, and I was hoping this one was just as good, and it was! If you are looking for a domestic psychological thriller that will keep you guessing, this is your book!
Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the Advanced Readers Copy. This book will be released in June 2019.
I absolutely loved Sandi"s last book so I could not wait to read this one! It definitely did not disappoint and kept me right from the beginning.
The First Mistake was a fast paced thriller that kept me guessing at every turn. I really enjoyed Sandie Jones’ other book, The Other Woman, and liked this one just as much. The writing was good, the storyline was original, and the twists literally had me gasping out loud. I loved this book (read it in one night!) and recommend it to people who enjoy high energy, character-driven stories with a plot that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
She did it again! This author is phenomenal, and I enjoyed this book just as much as I did her first novel, The Other Woman! The author has a knack for writing good plots with tons of twists.
This book follows two women, telling their separate stories, and also intertwining them.
The first woman is Alice. She is in the prime of her life making tons of money at her own company. She has 2 girls at home, and is on her second marriage; although she is still recovering from the tragic loss of her first husband.
The second woman is Beth. She is a single mother of one daughter, and is currently on the watch for Mr. Right!
These two woman are brought together, because their children end up at the same school. They hit it off right away, and basically end up the bestest friends. The information that both come into will test their relationship by either breaking it up or making it stronger.
I am already waiting for the author's next book!
A very clever and complex book full of deceit and betrayal. Add a couple of very manipulating characters and the result is a highly enjoyable read that poses questions throughout. Excellent book.
Great story. Sandie Jones has done it again. The Other Woman was really good and The First Mistake is equally good. Compulsive read that leads you one way and then another. Don't assume you know what is happening or where it is going, but you will want to get there in a hurry.
Alice, Beth, the two main characters, are good friends and so are their daughters. Nathan is Alice's second hubby, but is he more than he seems? It was very hard to put this book down watching the twists and turns. Really enjoyed it!
Thank you NetGalley for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
There’s not a lot of books that I’ve read that stay with me throughout the day I think about it of and on during work and when I’m doing stuff around the house. This book really did that it stayed with me and I was constantly thinking of things that were happening in it and what I thought might happen next it just really kept me interested. The other books that she’s written do the same she’s a wonderful writer and I really recommend her books. I can’t wait to read more of them. I started this book on a Sunday afternoon and finished it Tuesday night. It was so good that I had to sit up in bed during the middle of the night to read the last chapter even though I had been reading for the past three hours. Wow. Definitely a must read.
This is the firat time I have read anything by this author but I will definitely be looking for more. A very good book, well written and easy to read!!! I enjoyed the characters and the storyline was easy to follow!
THANK YOU, MINOTAUR BOOKS!!!
One of the year's best suspense books!
Alice has it all - a wonderful husband, two wonderful daughters, and a great career. She does miss her deceased first husband, Tom, at times, though. After all, he is the father of her oldest daughter. Alice does suffer from a bit of depression and perhaps agoraphobia - seemingly it is mostly under control. Beth, Alice's best friend, is great for her morale. Unfortunately, lately, so is alcohol.
This book develops and develops. - never disappointing. Sandie Jones consistently weaves a web of ingenious mystery and suspense.
MORE THAN a MUST READ!!!
Many thanks to Minotaur Books and NetGalley for the ability to read and review this gem.
Thanks to Net Galley and St Martins Press for the opportunity of reading The First Mistake in exchange for an honest review.
This book was amazing. So many twists that you kind of had a feeling where it may go but then a few turns along the way you changed your mind or cast doubt on that feeling. I flew through this book with its written tales of lies and deceit. Sandie Jones sets up the beginning of the book in a way by introducing the characters of book that makes you want to read more. The author does a great job portraying the main character Alice's mental heath. She lost her first husband in an accident and that caused her to spiral down. Meeting her second husband helps her lift her life but she is still fragile....ten years later. That's when the doubts about her second husband start and her downward spiral seems to start again. Writing how Alice began to take charge of herself in order to save herself was a highlight for me.
Sandie Jones is an amazing author and will definitely be reading all her works.
This was my first Sandie Jones novel and I'm so happy to have found this author through NetGalley. The First Mistake was a great read. I actually read it in one sitting while on a Spring Break cruise. I could not put it down! I usually have a good idea of where the story is heading and I have to say this one kept me guessing!
So many twists in this book. I had a reading slump before I started it; this pulled me up by my bootstraps and I couldn't read fast enough. So many mistakes, which is the first one? The ending, however, left me stunned -- it is the type of open ending you need to discuss with a friend.
Thank you #NetGalley for an advanced copy of #TheFirstMistake!
OMG, let me start by saying 2 things... 1. I absolutely LOVED Sandie Jones’ first book, The Other Woman and 2. I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited to get approved for a book on NetGalley!!
Ok so as I said this is the second of Sandie Jones’ books I’ve read and it did NOT disappoint! There is just something about the way this author writes that I completely enjoy. The twists are totally nothing I would’ve guessed. There are so many parts where I’m like “wait, what?” or “OMG no way” or “wow! Totally didn’t see that coming” and that’s what I LOVE about this author.
So about the book... Alice is a mother of two on her second marriage after becoming a widow a few years early. Her new husband is Nathan but Alice starts to suspect things aren’t what she thought in regards to their marriage. She questions whether he is being faithful and is constantly comparing him to her first husband, Tom. Then there is Beth, Alice’s best friend. At the end of part 1, trust me, you are going to read that last sentence and be like “Um what?” But wait and keep reading because there’s even more twists! Alice is starting to question everything she knows in regards to her first husband, her second husband and her best friend. And the end is such a good twist! Both of Sandie Jones’ books have now left me wanting more!! I can’t wait to see what she does in the future!
Thank you so much for this ARC!
First off, I read this in one day. This story is so thrilling you will not want to put it down. Extremely fast paced and far from predictable. I literally had chills after reading certain parts.
After reading The Other Woman and now The First Mistake, it is safe to say I am a HUGE fan of Sandie Jones. Cannot wait to see what she comes up with next!
The First Mistake is a compelling book. From the first page to the last, the reader will be mesmerized by the unfolding story and all the unexpected twists and turns. The book is hard to put down as every word will hook the reader, and all you want to do is turn to the next page. Sandie Jones has a new fan!
Another fantastic book from Sandie Jones!!
Alice has had a difficult time since her first husband died but things are looking up for her. Her two daughters and second husband are her world, she has an amazing best friend and a huge opportunity for her business is on the horizon. Until she starts to suspect her husband is having an affair.
I thought I had this twist figured out but I was fooled. This was a page turner for sure. Highly recommend.
Thank you to #netgalley and #stmartinspress for an advanced reader's copy. #sandiejones #the firstmistake
I really enjoyed this book. So many twists that you kind of had a feeling where it may go but then a few turns along the way you changed your mind or cast doubt on that feeling. Sandier Jones does a great job portraying the main character Alice's mental heath. She lost her first husband in an accident and that caused her to spiral down. Meeting her second husband helps her lift her life but she is still fragile....ten years later. That's when the doubts about her second husband start and her downward spiral seems to start again. I’m glad Alice found her strength and the ending was not one I saw coming, very enjoyable!
I loved this book. It grabbed from the first page and I could not put it down. There were so many twists and turns that you could figure out where the story line was going. I was very surprised at the ending which was a shock to me as I can normally figure out who did it. Highly recommended
Thanks to Netgalley for letting me read this book in return for an honest review
The First Mistake is a wonderfully addictive read. I was given an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. I stayed up way past my bedtime reading this one and discovered that the issue with ARCs is that I don't have anyone to discuss the book with!! It's hard to say much about this book without giving away any spoilers, so I'll just say you have to read this book if you're a fan of thrillers! I can't wait to see what Sandie Jones has for us next!!
Special thanks to netgalley. I greatly enjoyed the main characters. Alice, her "loving" husband Nathan and best friend Beth are believable, but are the keeping secrets from each other?
Is Alice just afraid of life or still delusional from the death of her first husband, Tom? Is Nathan a cheating husband? Could it be with Beth? Things could be even worse than they appear.
The twists and turns keep you guessing until the last page.
I loved this thriller with a slow and calm beginning which lulled me into thinking I was reading a lovely romance but then turned into a gripping twisty stay-up-all-night read. The story kept me guessing until the end which rarely happens and the characters were wonderfully portrayed. Great author.
This might be my favorite new suspense novel! I thought I knew what was going to happen throughout the book, but at every turn it through me for a loop and I ended up going "WHAT?!" I read this in 2 days and I just couldn't stop reading. This is also one of those badass women books. The main characters overcome what is holding them back and takes back what is theirs. Will definitely recommend when this one comes out!! Thank you Netgalley and Pan Macmillan Publishing for an ARC in return for an honest review of this thrilling page turner!
This book is being published just to in time to be the perfect beach read. This is a wild ride kind of mystery where just when you think you've figured out what's going on, you are thrown in another direction suddenly. There are some great characters in this book....all of them believable and well written. If you think this is your typical love triangle story you will be in for a very big surprise, Set some time aside because once you start this you will not be able to put it down. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced reader copy for review.
This book!!! So good!! It had my heart racing as I neared the end! How would it all go down? After reading The Other Woman by Sandie Jones I knew I needed to read this one and it did not disappoint! Alice seemingly has it all — a thriving business, two great daughters, and a devoted second husband. But soon she begins to suspect Nathan of having an affair. She confides in her best friend, Beth, and things don’t seem to be adding up with her, either. And then it all collides at the end! Great, great read! Sandie Jones is a one-click author! Thanks to Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review! Releases June 11!!
"The Other Woman" was the first book, which did not disappoint and Sandie Jones has done it again with "The First Mistake."
Sandie tells a tale of a young widow, Alice, who is now married to her second husband (Nathan) and are now the parents of two. You think you know someone, but then you start second guessing everything. Alice doesn't know if she's imagining things or if something is wrong.
Alice doesn't what to believe or who to trust, not even her best friend. She has no one else to turn to and has to figure things out the hard way. Life and death choices that no one ever wants to have to make.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book. Sandie Jones is a fantastic author and I'm looking forward to her next book already!!
THE FIRST MISTAKE is a completely gripping, unputdownable suspense novel that had twists galore that I never saw coming.
Alice is a successful home designer, on her second marriage to Nathan, and with two kids (one is his and one is from her previous marriage that ended in his tragic death). She’s got her best friend, Beth, by her side to commiserate with, and is about to sign a huge deal that will take her business to a bigger stratosphere. Then she starts suspecting some troubling information about Nathan, her current husband. Is he being unfaithful? Is the other woman someone closer to Alice than she knows?
Bland description, and I apologize. However, this is a book that is better going into the less you know. I thought it was going one way, then it went to another. Then, when it somewhat went back the way I originally suspected, it went ANOTHER way. This book kept me on my toes, and I couldn’t finish it soon enough! Author Sandie Jones is a true talent who richly draws out her characters and plot. I was reading it as if it was a fast-paced movie, although I don’t see how a movie would be possible...you’ll understand after you read it. Very highly recommended!
Thank you to Author Sandie Jones, Publisher Minotaur Books, and NetGalley for an ARC. 5 stars!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me a free advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book was riveting! The character development in this novel was solid and made me feel like I knew each one personally. Seeing Alice’s struggle with her life as a mother, partner and friend made her feel like a relatable character who anytime can see their shoes in. Of course we have the mystery of her first husband, Toms death, and a sparkle of mental illness tied up in this psychological thriller that is a quick and easy page turner. Can not wait for this to be released! It will be a hit.
I was so excited to read this and I absolutely loved. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and read this book in two sittings. I literally couldn’t out it down. There were so many great twist and a great story of friendship, love, loss and complete betrayal. I love that this book brought two strong women together and they supported each other through some the hardest things someone could go through. I would highly recommend this book!
Let me start by saying that Sandie Jones is easily becoming one of my favorite authors. Her books are so easy and quick to read, and while they're not exactly your typical thriller, they always have their parts where my heart is racing and I CANNOT. STOP. READING. The First Mistake was no different. At first, I thought the story was going in a completely different direction from where it actually ended up. You're just not sure what characters you're supposed to trust, and who the "good guy" is. But this did not stop me from getting hooked once the first twist is revealed about 1/3 of the way in. From there on out, I couldn't put it down. I will say that I was not in love with the ending, but overall, it is worth the read. 4.5/5 (with a push to 5 for the star scale, because I just love SJ's style!)
The First Mistake has officially affirmed Sandie Jones as one of my favourite authors. Having loved Ms Jones' previous novel, 'The Other Woman', this one had high expectations to meet, and it certainly did not disappoint.
Alice is a woman who has moved on with her life following the premature demise of her first husband, Tom, whom Alice has always placed on a pedestal. But life with second husband, Nathan, and her two daughters is good, both personally and professionally, until Alice begins to suspect Nathan of having an affair. Is all as perfect as it seems?
Beth is a friend to Alice, but when Alice starts to confide in the other woman regarding her suspicions about Nathan, she begins to sense that there is more going on than meets the eye. And Beth seems to be harbouring some secrets of her own.
This is a compelling page turner that I could not put down. Full of tangible tension, nothing is as it appears, and the twists will keep your head spinning until the final page. Sandie Jones has quickly become a must read author for me, and I cannot wait to see where she takes us next.
Many thanks to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, and Minotaur Books for this fabulous ARC.
I loved this book and was able to finish it so quickly. It kept me interested the entire time and was twisting until the very end. I was so sad when it was over! Will definitely recommend to friends and have already lent out my copy!
Thank you NetGalley & St. Martin's Press for the ARC of The First Mistake by Sandie Jones. The cover is beautiful. I loved The Other Woman and couldn't wait to read this one as well! I could not put this domestic psychological thriller down! I read it in just one day. Everything starts to unravel in the first chapter and I was completely drawn in by Alice, the main character, her former husband, her current husband and her best friend, Beth. I'll definitely be purchasing the paperback when it comes out.
THE FIRST MISTAKE is an engaging read, right from page one. With a feel of women’s fiction, it does have some thriller elements, particularly later in the book. We follow Alice in the first part, Beth in the past for the second, and then both again for the third. Alice is happily married and running a company alongside her husband, Nathan. Notably, the company was set up by Alice with her first husband, Tom, for interior design, and it has been doing remarkably well.
Alice also has two daughters, Sophia, a moody teenager, and Olivia, a nine-year-old who has been having some trouble at school lately. Alice’s life is evolving and changing, and things may not be exactly as she thought they were. As things begin crumbling around her, she must rely on her husband and her best friend, but it is not clear who she can really trust.
This book absolutely pulled me in from the start, and with many twists and turns along the way, I was still completely surprised by the ending (something I always love in thrillers). The pacing is absolutely perfect, and the timing is spot-on for reveals and flashbacks. The writing is top notch and even better than the previous book by this author (THE OTHER WOMAN). Sandie Jones has really found her element here, and the structure/plot/style are completely perfect.
I highly recommend for anyone looking for a light/domestic thriller, great pacing, intense, and satisfying read. Please note that I received an ARC from the publisher through netgalley. All opinions are my own.
Sandie Jones, Sandie Jones, Sandie Jones.....
Wow! Wow! Wow!
Like I have no idea how to write my review! You literally blew me away! Like you blew my mind! Boom...in pieces!
Alice lost her husband who she absolutely adored! Even after she lost him she still loved him...even years later.
Beth fell in love with someone she met on online. It was supposed to be a... hey you free let's hangout type thing. But this man got her.
These two women are best friends or we think they are best friends...
This book is classic, nothing is as it seems. Times 20!!!
I want to go on and on! I want to spill this story to you! I want to let you all my secrets and ruin this book for you! I want to really bad.
But naturally I would never spoil things for you.
BUT!!!!! When this book comes out please go and get it or one click it.
You will not be sorry! I promise.
It I ever see Sandie Jones i am going to bow at her feet! Like how does she do this to me! Again.....
THIS BOOK IS SO GOOD!!!! I remember how much I enjoyed reading The Other Woman, and The First Mistake is just as outstanding! You’ve got love, heartbreak, infidelity, suspense, and several WTF moments as well - and that is just the tip of the iceberg! Strong and believable plot, characters that are likable. Excellent book.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it kept my interest throughout. It had it all - love, friendship, betrayal with lots of twists and turns. The characters kept me interested with all their secrets that I found myself quickly racing to the end to find out all the answers. I highly recommend this one! #NetGalley #TheFirstMistake
I really loved this one! Very well written and so suspenseful! I loved all the twists and turns in the plot. It really kept me guessing, trying to figure out what the heck was going on! The author really let you inside the main character’s head, Alice, you truly felt everything she was going through. Highly redid you enjoy a great thriller!
The First Mistake was my first Sandie Jones novel but it won't be my last. The First Mistake had me hooked from the first page - I tore through this book in less than 24 hours. Every time I thought I had the plot figured out, Jones through me for another loop!
This book had everything I love in a psychological thrilled - twists, turns, unreliable characters, false endings. The First Mistake was so much fun to read, you wont be disappointed.
I did not read much on the plot of this book ahead of time so went in a bit blind. I found myself a little lost through the first 2 chapters but then wow...just wow... this book took on the speed of a freight train and never stopped. There were twists throughout that you NEVER see coming...I even had to go back a page a couple of times because I could not believe what I was reading! I could not tell who was lying, who to believe and where on earth the story was going (in the best possible way) until the very end. Lots of twists and thrills throughout will have you up way past your bedtime! Fabulous read and I highly recommend! Thank you to NetGalley. the author and publisher for an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
THE FIRST MISTAKE, by Sandie Jones, is an enthralling, fast paced tale of a wife, unraveling. There are so many stories of suspense, based on domestic disharmony, these days, that they can tend to get a bit muddled together. THE FIRST MISTAKE stands out as being fresh, new and truly gripping. Thank you Netgalley, Sandie Jones , and MacMillan for the ARC, in exchange for my honest review,
I received an ARC copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it and all I can say is Wow! What an amazing book. I actually read it in less than 24 hours. Beth and Alice are best friends. But really, how well do you know your best friend ? How well do you even know your own husband? There are so many twists until the very last page! Highly recommend!
The First Mistake was an amazing book filled with tons of twists and those OMG moments! I found myself staying up late into the night not wanting to put it down! Alice wonders if the world she once knew was true or all a lie. Can she trust her new husband Nathan, her best friend Beth. You will find yourself coming up with idea after idea and be shocked with each turn of the page. This is a must read, if not that will be your First Mistake!
Sadie Jones has done it again. Edge of your seat read and will keep you guessing till the very end! Very realistic characters and plot. Never know what will happen next and to whom.
I absolutely loved The Other Woman and I had high hopes for The First Mistake. I was not disappointed. I received this book as an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. Ms. Jones is a fantastic writer and really nails the twisty plots and endings. This books grabs you early on and I found myself not wanting to put it down! Definitely puck up The First Mistake on 6/11/2019 when it is released!
Thank you to Minotaur books for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I was first drawn to Sandie Jones' first book, The Other Woman, last year. I was thoroughly pleased, so of course, I jumped at this book as soon as I could. Jones' writing paints an ever-present picture and wraps you up in the story without ever letting you go until you get to the end. This book and its characters are so relatable, I felt like I was reading the drama unfold on my own self, with my own friends. As present-minded humans, we tend to be paranoid and untrusting. You want--need--to trust your friends, and by god, your husband! But what if you can't?
This book keeps the reader hanging. Just when you think you've figured it out, your case unravels. Characters are compelling and well drawn. The story was expertly developed.
Oh my, reading this book is a roller coaster of a ride. I thought it started off a little on the slow side but it soon picked up and never let down until a very surprising ending. The author did an excellent job connecting all the dots of the different story lines that were going on. I highly recommend unputdownable book to anyone who loves a good thriller. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC of this great book that I really enjoyed.
5/5 stars for The First Mistake by Sandie Jones!!!
Wow - I loved this book. I stayed up past my bedtime AND woke up before I had to just to finish the book today. At first I was wondering what I had gotten myself into, I didn't know where the story was going. But, it quickly picked up and I was hooked. I really enjoyed this read, and didnt guess the twists that kept coming.
Thank you to the publisher and netgalley, who provided me with an ecopy in exchange for my honest review.
Wow! Just wow! I thought I knew where the story was going. I wasn’t completely sure, though, because every twist made me reconsider my previous assumptions. The characters kept surprising me by acting in unexpected ways that still made sense but I hadn’t foreseen. But the climax and conclusion left me speechless. Even what I considered to be a throwaway plot point ended up being important and every single clue takes on a different meaning in the end. Alice is a successful businesswoman with psychological issues brought on by the disappearance and presumed death of her first husband. It’s a good thing her second husband is so supportive and dreamy. Her best friend Beth is a frazzled single mother with bad luck with men. I really, really want to say more but I’d hate to spoil the plot because it’s very well thought out. I just need to warn you not to pick up this novel if you have plans in the near future, because it’s impossible to put down.
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thank you, NetGalley/St. Martin's Press -Minotaur Books!
This is the best psychological thriller I’ve read in ages, I couldn’t put it down. It was twisted and scary, and trying to visualize an ending was impossible.
Sandie Jones writes a web of deception that rivals the best, as she tells the story of Alice, who lost her husband in a tragic ski accident. After bottoming out in her grief she meets Nathan, the perfect guy to get her back on her feet and running her profitable company. He’s a great husband and father, and they build a wonderful life together.
This author is a great storyteller, with great character development, giving you a fun and likable cast. She skillfully brings you along as the secrets, lies and deceit become apparent, resulting in an ending that blindsides. This is a must read, or that would be the second mistake. My thanks to the author, Minotaur ?Books and St Martin’s Press for the advanced readers copy.

Psychological thrillers are some of my favorite books! In the past I have read The Other Woman by Sandie Jones, recommended by Reese’s book club. I was so excited to see the release of The First Mistake. The immediate suspense and fantastic writing will suck you in from the very beginning. So many clues imbedded in the plot of this book, including twists and turns have you trying to figure out how this amazing story ends. Highly recommended, Sandie Jones has me hooked!
Wow, Wow, Wow!!! One of the Best books I ever read BUT what was the Epilogue about? Now im horribly confused. I could NOT put this book down, it was sooo engrossing. Im sad about the epilogue but I loved every everything else. Thank you Net Galley and Minotaur for an early release of this phenomenal book.
From the moment I read the first page until the moment I read the last (3 times over!), The First Mistake held me captive. Real life ceased to exist as my heart rate picked up, my stomach got that funny kind of impending doom feeling, and I'm pretty sure I held my breath until this twisted story ended. And then, I sat there stunned - book in hand, staring at the final words . . . thinking "what the h*ll just happened"?! I'll say it right now . . . Carve out enough time to read this book beginning to end in one sitting because once you start, there's no going back.
Alice is a content, wealthy businesswoman, mother, and wife. Life is good . . . until suddenly it isn't. Nathan rode into Alice's life three months after she lost her first husband Tom. She'd been lost in the depths of her grief and despair, and he pulled her up out of the darkness into the light once again. No one need know she still depends on a couple of anti-depressants to get through her day. It's normal with all she's been through, right? Nathan is a charmer with a killer smile - a loving husband and father who works by Alice's side in the successful design firm she and Tom started. Alice, Nathan, and the two children are the picture perfect family. Rounding out Alice's inner circle is her best friend and confidante Beth. Their daughters are playmates and when Alice makes a couple of disturbing discoveries that give her cause to question her marriage, Beth is the one she turns to for advice. As this story plays out, dark revelations pile up, one after another, threatening to destroy life as Alice knows it. With her heart, gut, and the evidence pointing in different directions, Alice has to figure out who's telling the truth and who's lying. That's all I can say about the story without spoilers, and trust me folks, you do not want to read any spoilers before diving into this masterpiece of suspense.
A sinister, mesmerizing story, The First Mistake is highly addictive - simply impossible to put down. I ignored the phone, doorbell, my husband, and even the dog as I frantically burned through the pages of this book. My "need to know" level was off the chart, and I can say it's one of very few books I've read lately where I wasn't even close to 100% certain of the outcome by the end. And oh that ending! How I wish I could talk about the shocking ending, but of course I can't. Some will love it and some won't, but I think it's brilliant! The author sets a menacing tone within the first few pages and then elevates it and the pace throughout as she masterfully manipulates characters and readers - withholding the final piece of the puzzle until the very end. Through strong, real-to-life characters, Jones delivers a relatable plotline that could mirror the life of any average citizen, making it that much more believable and terrifying. Beautifully written and delivered, The First Mistake is one I'll be thinking about for some time to come. An absolutely riveting "Are you kidding me?!" Must Read Suspense Thriller!
I was excited when I got approved from NetGalley and the publisher for Sandie Jones’ newest book “The First Mistake “. I absolutely loved her first novel, read it in 1 Day and gave it 5 stars! This one, to me, was not as good as her first book but I did enjoy it. I felt it fell flat about midway through and I almost gave up, only to have it pick back up again until the end. That ending!!! I wasn’t expecting that and I’m still trying to process it. Can’t wait for Sandie’s next book! Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for my advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
This is my first book by the author. I honestly didn’t know what to expect with this book. The plot twists were amazing and kept me guessing until the end? How far will one go to make the perfect life?
I look forward to more by the author.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Excellent mystery and thriller that includes some unexpected and unique twists! A thoroughly enjoyable read.
Thank You Net Galley and Minotaur for an early copy of The First Mistake. Awesome book! I was soooo looking forward to reading this because of The Other Woman which was great. Loved the characters and I never wanted to put it down. I was a bit confused at the epilogue though. All in All Great reading!
WOW is what I think when I think of this book! It was amazing throughout. I couldn't put it down and even fought sleep to finish it.
Alice fights each day with the loss of her husband from 10 years earlier. She has remarried to a man she believes saved her from wreckage. Nathan is by her side in every way. At home to help raise their daughter and the daughter from her first husband. He works with her in the company her and her first husband build. He is very supportive in every way she needs. Or is he?
Alice does not befriend women so easily so when her and Beth become close it means everything to Alice. She can confide in her with just about anything. Beth knows of the struggle Alice had dealing with the loss of her husband. However Beth has her secrets too!
This book has me from the start. Just when you think you have it all figured out there is another turn you didn't see coming. This book is full of suspense just the way I like it. I can see it being a huge hit this summer.
Holy cow, what just happened?!? Every time I thought I had it figured out I turned out to be wrong. Everything I start to write seems spoilery, so I’ll just say this was a riveting story. It’s tense, at times confusing, and completely unpredictable and I really need someone else to read this to talk about the ending!
Fantastic read full of twists and turns. I kept feeling like I figured everything out, but then I either realized I was wrong or had forty-seven other questions. This novel was impossible to put down!
Mystery Based on Relationships: The story revolves around trying to figure out how all the relationships fit together. The characters are defined well despite the pieces to unravel. There is death in the story, but it is not graphic or tear jerking. The romance is not graphic. In one place there are some facts that get hazy as they don’t fit and the reader might find this confusing, but the ending sorts that out.
.
A disturbing read with twist and turns and ups and downs leaving you just as miffed as the women, as they tell their stories and their lives entwine in ways they could not possibly have foreseen. One woman lost the love of her life, leaving her heartbroken and alone with her young daughter. As her mind fractures and she finds herself unable to even do the most basic things she meets a man whilst she is being treated. Years later she is still struggling, but with a husband, two daughters and a business that is going places she is pushing through. Trying to be happy and live. But things happen and she finds herself doubting everything she thought she knew. Her bestfriend has her own story of loss and betrayal that have left her bitter and alone, with a daughter that has no father and desperate for answers she confides in her friend who vows to help her. But life never goes the way you think it will and secrets have a way of coming out no matter what you do to keep them hidden. An interesting story that kept me occupied throughout my day, held my attention and left keep feeling satisfied with it, from start to finish.
This is a book I’ve been hearing such great things about lately. As anxious as I was to immediately dig into it, I feared the hype may be overrated, leaving one disappointed reader. Well...my worries couldn’t be further from reality! I loved it! It most certainly deserves all the buzz it’s been receiving.
Early on I was sure I had a handle on this twisty gem. Not even close. The curves never quit coming! And the ending...BAM!
How well do you really know the love of your life...or your best friend for that matter! Who can you really trust? Are you sure?
If you love a masterfully crafted, twisty thriller guaranteed to keep you in the dark guessing throughout...look no further! This is the book for you!
As much as I enjoyed Sandie Jones previous book The Other Woman, her latest release blows that one away, a must read! Highly recommend!
Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press-Minotaur Books and Sandie Jones for an ARC to read and review.
A truly unbelievable tale of deception and deceit. You will never see what unfolds in the end coming. The author does a marvelous job of holding the secrets close and keeping the reader guessing. Alice and Beth are both led on a merry chase to untangle the mess that their lives have become. Only through the strength of their friendship are they able to figure things out and survive to stay alive. The characters are enigmatic and the story is poignant and highly emotional.
This is the first book I’ve read from Sandie Jones. It starts out getting to know the main character, Alice, in depth. The characters are very likable and relatable. The story is told from two points of view: Alice, an interior designer, and her friend Beth, a schoolteacher. It starts slowly, and then hits the reader with satisfying twists and turns, becoming a page-turner. I will definitely read more from this author. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.
5 Stars! This domestic thriller has the most amazing twists the left me so shocked. I am still trying to get my head around what I just read. I read and really enjoyed The Other Woman by Sandie Jones, but truly this book is even better!
The story is told from two points of view - Alice's and Beth's. Alice is the wife of Nathan and she suspects he is having an affair. Beth is Alice's best friend and she has lost all her family's money to a guy she was dating, Tom, who took her money (her Mom's money) and disappeared leaving Beth pregnant. Alice and Beth's daughters go to the same school and are friends and Alice and Beth have become best friends. There is a point where their stories intertwine and this incredible story unfolds. I was totally involved and couldn't put the book down.
Thanks to Sandie Jones and St. Martin's Press through Netgalley for an advance copy.
5☆s for sure! This is the second book I've read by this author and I love her. This book has great characters and is a fast read. I didn't want to do anything but finish this book. It had me guessing the whole time! Sometimes when you read so many psych thriller they all seem to blend into a similar story. Not this one. I highly recommend it. Thank you so much for the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review!
When I started reading this book, I thought I’d figured out the ending within the first few pages and I was disappointed that it was so obvious. I hoped for some twists and turns along the way, and my wish was definitely granted. I was delightfully surprised by the way the story turned out and I enjoyed the book quite a bit.
The twists and turns will have you flipping pages as fast as you can. This is a roller coaster of a ride so make sure you are well buckled in and prepare for the most harrowing ride of your life. Make sure to make plenty of time because it's unoutdownable. Happy reading!
Bravo...Applause to Sandie Jones author of last year’s smash best seller "The Other Woman" for her second novel "The First Mistake." Thank you to St. Martin’s Press/Minotaur Books for the advanced reader copy of this book. I immensely enjoyed this fantastic, absorbing thriller. I literally thought I had the storyline of the novel figured out twice, but was completely wrong both times. Two stories that diverge into one surprisingly twisted ending, which totally blew me away! The First Mistake is an exciting, delicious and highly addictive read. An excellent domestic thriller to put on your summer reading list.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’m gonna start by saying I LOVED THE OTHER WOMAN. I was so excited to start this! So happy to get lucky enough to get an ARC of THE FIRST MISTAKE. so, my name is Bethany (Beth) and my other half’s name is Thomas. So this made me question everything about my life! Hahah! Kidding of course, but it was crazy to read with our names in it!!
This was an amazing thriller, kept me on the edge of my seat as I devoured it in less than 24 hours!! Sandie Jones has a way to get you hooked, so you think you know what’s coming, you flip the pages as fast as you can to see what happens next, and than you’re left with your mouth gaping open and thinking WHAT? how was I so wrong?? Her twist are always mind blowing, which is my favorite thing in a book like this! I loved this so much! I would ABSOLUTELY recommend. 5/5.

I received an ARC for my honest and fair review. Sandie Jones has delivered again! This book has friendship, suspense, and makes you question everything! Wow! Another 5 star, fast paced thriller by Sandie Jones! This book was so good, with lots of twists. I literally did not want to put it down. I thought I had it figured out close to the beginning but I was way wrong. I think I liked this one more than her first book. And that ending! You will not go wrong with this if you like psychological thrillers that keep you guessing.
Page turner on the way!! June 11th to be exact. There is so much going on in this book. When I thought I knew what will be next, another twist popped out. Good writing, very well-developed characters and big surprise on the end. I hope sandy Jones will write many more books because so far, she is doing great job.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. When I first got into it I thought I knew how the story was going to end but I was very definitely wrong. Many twists and turns later, the ending was satisfying and left a little up to the reader's interpretation. A great marriage and family thriller that will be a bestseller this summer.
Thanks to St. Martin's Press/Minotaur Books for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! This book is up & down & twists all around until your mind boggled & enthralled with this story!!!!!!!! It gets crazy & you will go round and round with your theories but judt like The Other Woman you will be wrong!!!!!!! Thank you to St. Martins Press and Netgalley for my honest review.
Having loved the Other Woman, I was looking forward to read the next one, and it didn't disappoint. This book gripped me from the first chapter and didn't let go until its amazing ending.
Its a clever and tense psychological mystery thriller with mysterious and hard to figure out characters.
Alice found happiness again after the death of her first husband (whose body was never found) when she married Nathan. She also has Beth as her best friend through thick and thin.
But then Nathan starts acting suspiciously and Alice relies on her best friend, but soon she realizes that she might have misplaced her trust and her world comes crashing soon after.
Who is lying, who is manipulative, and who is genuine? A thrilling ride of dread and confusion that I highly recommend.
Thanks Netgalley, Minotaur Books, and author Sandie Jones for an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.
Alice has had a rough time of it. Her husband died in a skiing accident leaving her with a small daughter. She has been battling depression ever since. She met Nathan, had another daughter and life is good. The business she owns is profitable and she has her best friend Beth. Beth is a single mom, and hasn't had it so well. Then when a shocking secret comes out that affects Not only Alice, but also Nathan and Beth, Alice has to some hard choices to make.
Sorry to make the description so cryptic, but I didn't want to spoil a single thing for you. This book was SO good. I could not put it down. It had so many twists in it... every time I thought I had something figured out, a new twist was thrown in. I highly recommend this book!
THE WIFE: For Alice, life has never been better. With her second husband, she has a successful business, two children, and a beautiful house.
HER HUSBAND: Alice knows that life could have been different if her first husband had lived, but Nathan’s arrival into her life gave her back the happiness she craved.
HER BEST FRIEND: Through the ups and downs of life, from celebratory nights out to comforting each other through loss, Alice knows that with her best friend Beth by her side, they can survive anything together. So when Nathan starts acting strangely, Alice turns to Beth for help. But soon, Alice begins to wonder whether her trust has been misplaced . . .
The first mistake could be her last.
I loved Sadie Jones' other book and couldn't have been more excited to get the opportunity to read her new book. It was even better than I thought it was going to be! If you liked her first book you're going to love this one! The plot of this story is insane!
Thank you #NetGalley for the ARC of The First Mistake by Sandie Jones

A perfectly twisted story unwinds between two friends.
I absolutely loved this novel.
For fans of novels like "The Other Woman" or "Gone Girl" THIS IS YOUR NEXT READ
First I want to thank @netgalley and Minotaur Books for giving me the chance to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I’ve been looking forward to reading more from Sandie Jones ever since I read her debut novel, The Other Woman. Needless to say, I was not disappointed and absolutely loved The First Mistake. It had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. There are a number of twists and turns throughout the story and the ending had me mind blown. While I do feel that it ended abruptly I still enjoyed the story. Finishing this book in a day, I’d definitely recommend it to my fellow thriller lovers!
•
The beginning of the story is told in Alice’s point of view after losing her husband and getting remarried to a man named, Nathan Davis. The middle of the book is told in Beth’s point of view from 9 years ago and then the last part of the book brings us to the present day. Alice has two beautiful kids and a successful business, she couldn’t be happier. However, when she starts to believe her husband is keeping secrets Alice leans on her best friend, Beth. With every new revelation she slowly starts to wonder if her trust has been misplaced. In a story where nothing is as it seems, will Alice be able to handle the truth or is she in more danger than she realizes? Is Beth really there for her?

I loved this author's first book! This one had a lot of hype, and as other readers I was a little worried. She did not disappoint! There's so many twists and turns in this book that it made me dizzy! Very well developed characters and a story that engages the reader all the way to the very last sentence. I predict a huge career in the world of books for Sandie Jones! Not to be missed!
I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley. Thank you, Netgalley!
I also received not one, but two beautiful paperback ARCs from the publisher, Minotaur Books! Thank you, Minotaur Books, as usual, You Rock!
All opinions are my own.
Wow! Did not see the great dark twists and turns in this psychological thriller. Nicely developed characters, you just never know who you can trust in this one! So many OMG moments in this book. Very well done, highly recommend!
I absolutely LOVED this authors first book The Other Woman and I was excited to dive into The First Mistake. I read this book in one sitting. It is fast paced, with twists and turns, I had no clue what was going to happen next, and I love that! The characters were complex with a well crafted storyline. There was a shocking twist at the end that blew me away. Great psychological thriller by a fantastic author.
After reading The First Mistake, Sandie Jones has become a must-read author for me in the suspense, thriller, and mystery genres. Ms Jones knows how to place twists and turns in her stories to create a rollercoaster ride to the end.
The story drew me in from the start. The characters are interesting and have many layers.
I highly recommend this book to everyone but especially if you are a fan of the genres.
Thank you #Netgalley and #StMartinsPress #MinotaurBooks for approving my request to read this book. The opinions expressed in this review are solely my own.
