This book had some great twists and turns. I kept thinking that I had it figured out but I definitely did not predict the ending. This was a quick, fun read!
I may have done backflips when I got the advanced copy for this novel (not really I have no clue how to do a backflip but if I could I would have 😂). I absolutely loved The Other Woman by Sandie Jones and was thrilled to read her new book and of course it was fantastic!! You don’t wanna miss this!! Absolutely a must read! Perfect for by the pool!
I received an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review
This book was just okay. It dragged along, too long, and I would frequently put it down to read another book. The characters were flat but the twist did get me.
I was convinced that I had this book figured out from the very beginning. I was certain that I had it all figured out by the middle. However, the twists and the turns kept coming; ultimately leaving me guessing until the very last page.
I would recommend this book to book clubs and anyone who enjoys trying to piece together a story that keeps you guessing until the very end.
Just block out a chunk of time to read The First Mistake. It's such a just one more page kind of story. Full of secrets and lies and entertaining, this story is a psychological thriller. Who can you trust? Your best friend? Husband? No one? I found some characters sympathetic and likeable while others were not likeable at all. There is so much to keep you guessing until the end then one more twist that I never expected. A great read! Thanks to NetGalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
What an incredible novel! It pushed all the right buttons for me. I enjoyed the book tremendously, and felt the character development was done perfectly. I strongly recommend the book to all the readers that enjoyed The Other Woman.
This was my first read by Sandie Jones and it won't be my last! This is a very interesting story, full of twist and surprises that I didn't see coming. Alice has lost her husband Tom to a tragic accident and remarried to Nathan. She has a good job, two lovely daughters and a best friends she adores. She is still dealing with the loss of her husband in the past and she has been trying to move forward in her second phase of life. Things start to get a bit confused for her when strange things happen that cause her to questions her husband's faithfulness. It's hard to discuss this story without giving things away, but as they story progresses, the reader is sucked in to the twists that author throws in and is left wondering what is truly going on. This is a thrilling novel and kept me guessing (and up way to late reading)! Thank you netgalley for an arc of this story in exchange for my honest opinion.
I should start by saying that I read this book in one day. I really enjoyed The Other Woman by Sandie Jones, so I was really excited to get an advance copy of The First Mistake. This is going to be a popular thriller when it comes out this summer. I don't want to give anything away here, so just add it to your to-read list!
A quick, enjoyable read, with a twist no one will ever see coming. Seriously- I had to read a couple of chapters, just to make sure I fully understood what just happened. Some slower parts halfway in, but the ending more than makes up for them!
I really enjoyed The Other Woman by Sandie Jones and couldn't wait to get my hands on The First Mistake. This book was a page-turner! I thought I had the ending figured out but I was surprised by a few of the twists and turns.
As far as entertainment goes, this one would be 5 stars... however, I feel like if you start to look too closely at some of the details you have to suspend belief in reality (honestly, with social media and the internet being what it is today how could you be best friends with someone for YEARS and never see their spouse, even in passing? A handful of details like this had me rolling my eyes) which makes it closer to a 3.5 for me. The ending was a little rushed and I'm not sure how smart it is for the author to repeatedly refer to anti-depressants as "poison" but overall I enjoyed the book and would recommend it.
My appreciation goes out to Minotaur Books and Netgalley for an early read of this title which goes public in June. Alice’s first husband died in a skiing accident. Her second, Nathan, makes her very happy and they even work together at the same company. Beth, her best friend and Alice share trials and tribulations, so when Nathan starts acting weird, Alice discusses what he’s doing with best. But who should you trust? If anyone.
Sandie Jones knows how to write a psychological thriller and do it well. She leads you down one path, only to pepper it with detours. Most reviewers have read this book in one sitting. I can’t do that with anything, but it’s definitely a novel that keeps you coming back to find out what happens and who is the guilty one or ones. I thoroughly enjoyed “The First Mistake” and can’t wait for Jones’ next thriller.
The First Mistake by Sandie Jones ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thank you @netgalley and @stmartinspress for this ARC!

Review:
I’ve heard nothing but positive reviews about Sandie Jones and I was pleased to find out that they were all right! This book was easy to get into, was a quick read, and was thrilling from beginning to end. Some thrillers are so predictable...you know from the beginning what will happen in the end. This one definitely wasn’t that way. It kept me guessing til the end! If you enjoy thrillers with strong female characters, a good mystery, and a few people who aren’t who they seem, this is the book for you! Another highly recommended book!!!

This book is so good! I read it in a day because I could not put it down! I love the writing style of Sandie Jones, the book just flows really well which made it a super quick read that kept my attention the entire time. I really liked the way the stories of both Alice and Beth were presented because it had me trying to figure out how everything tied together. I was sure I had figured out about half way through, but to my surprise the twists just kept coming. This is one of those books that has you thinking “just one more chapter”, then 2 hours later you’re still at it. Definitely pick this one up if you’re looking for an unputdownable reads with twists that will keep you guessing until the last page!
A solid mystery that will keep you going, The ending left me unsatisfied, but overall I enjoyed the book.
Sandie Jones did it again! When I read The Other Woman (before it was Reese's pick), I was obsessed with it. I feel the same way with this one. The best part was the fast paced nature of the book. She jumps in with almost a chick-lit grab and then it just starts getting a bit more worrisome that Alice's life isn't as perfect as she thinks.
Then the reveals start happening. I have to say that I figured out a few things, but I didn't catch the big reveal at the end. I loved it and will recommend to all of my friends.
Thanks netgalley for this advanced reader copy for my review!
I knew I wouldn't like this book. I decided early on. I was wrong at every plot turn. I usually do unravel thrillers early on in the book. Not this one. I overlooked the extraordinarily well hidden clue.
Overall not a bad book. I couldn’t give it high stars like everyone else because I thought this book was just a bit on the boring side. 3/4 of the way through is when it really grabbed my attention and then came the twists and turns. At that point I think the suspense part of the story was rushed too quickly. Don’t think I would recommend sorry to say. Thank you netgalley for letting me give an honest review of this book.
5 enormous stars!! Sandie Jones has done it once again! Oh my goodness, I predict that The First Mistake will be one of the top summer reads of 2019! I adore suspense novels that shock me Sandie Jones has managed to blow me away with both of her novels. The storyline was brilliantly thought out and the pacing was perfect, Sandie Jones does a great job putting twists and turns in the absolute perfect spots! I found myself on the edge of my seat until the last page! I recommend The First Mistake to EVERYONE- a true 5 star read!
Alice: a mother and wife who lost her husband. She's trying so hard to overcome her fear of her children being orphans. At the same time, she's trying to keep her husband's dream alive with expanding her interior designing company.
Nathan: Alice's second husband who is always being compared to a ghost.
Beth: Alice's best friend. A single mother who is trying to raise her girl with what little she has.
The story line follows very much the same as Sandie Jones' last novel. It is twisted to the point on non-recognition. When you think you know something, it's not even the opposite but something completely different. I don't like Alice as a protagonist. She's weak and helpless all the way until the end. It's a wonder that she's even alive. It's frustrating. It was a great read.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read this fabulous ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Oh my goodness—this book literally defines what it means to be a page turner! I did not and frankly could not put down this book once I started reading. It was full of twists and a big surprise at the end which I did NOT see coming. I highly recommend this book and am so impressed with the author! I read Sandie Jones’ other book “The Other Woman”, which I also loved.
