An elite team of soldiers, with top-of-their-field hackers and specialists in various fields, racing desperately to get the prize before foreign groups with nefarious plans gets their hands on...a book?!? Wait, what? Ohhh, but this isn’t just ANY book! This is a book spoken of in the Bible, thought to have prophetic knowledge of wars to come!

Joining Lief, Mercy, Devine, Cell and the team as they battle evil, and the elements, learning who they can and can’t trust, while chasing THE BOOK OF WARS is a can’t-put-down adventure! (Ok yes, I put it down but only because hungry toddlers have a way of making themselves known lol)

The witty repartee. The adrenaline packed storyline. Watching the group meld into a team…. this is a don’t miss book!!!

I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher. All opinions are my own.

After years of serving under the command of someone else, Leif Metcalfe now has his own team to command, bringing his very own adventure more complicated than any he has faced before.

Leif Metcalfe has a difficult past and knows that it will be hard to push past all that to command his very own team. The time has come for him to step up and take charge. He and his team are tasked with finding the notorious Book of the Wars. They are not the only ones looking for it though. Iskra “Viorica” Todorova, a notorious Bulgarian operative gets to the book first. Iskra is being used by the man that kidnapped her, raped her and trained her to be a skilled assassin. If she can bring the book back to him, she might be able to secure her freedom. As both Leif and Iskra work to secure the book, strange storms blow up around the world that foreshadow the wars described in the book. To get away and secure her freedom, Iskra will have to do the one thing she thought possible, trust someone. Leif doesn’t know if he can trust Iskra but he also knows it might be his only way to secure the book and stop the destruction before it is too late.

If you are a fan of Kendig’s Tox files, you will not want to miss Storm Rising. Many of the same characters are back with Leif including Mercy Maddox (one of my personal favorites in this and I can’t wait to see more with her). I loved the pace of this stor; it was very detailed but not so much so that it took me out of the story. The Tox Files got so deep with the archeology aspects that it can be hard to keep up with everything happening sometimes, still a great story though. Here we get a much lighter story that reads very smooth and will easily keep readers engaged throughout. Ronie Kendig has always had a way of weaving a story that is so rich in history, suspense, and characters that are drawn together in a way that feels natural and real. With each new novel she just gets better and better. This is by far her best work, especially with character development and a natural flow with the relationships and how they fit together smoothly. When dealing with a team like this, there are a lot of characters and at times it can seem like a few too many but as the story plays out readers discover the need for each one. With the next book, I hope to see even more development for these smaller roles. As I said earlier, my favorite character in this book was Mercy, she is feisty, real and exhibits such energy that I can’t wait to see her further develop. She has so much potential as a lead character and I would love to see that for her. I recommend Storm Rising to fans of Kendig’s earlier work, but if this is your first time picking up a book by Ronie Kendig you won’t be lost. Even with the tie in to the previous series, new readers will be able to pick up and follow along with the story without a problem. Another great addition to my library.

I received a complimentary copy of this title from the publisher. The views and opinions expressed within are my own.

If I were going to write a one-word review for this book, it would be intense. If I were going to write a two-word review, it would be insanely good. But since brevity has never been one of my strong points, you’re going to get a whole lot more than that.

When I say this story was intense, I mean that in every possible way. The plot is intense; the action is intense; the characters are intense; the adrenaline spike is intense! But what sucks me into this author’s books again and again is the way she delivers not only such fantastic, action-filled plots but also characters you can’t help but become deeply invested in. Her characters are some of the most complex and best-written characters I’ve encountered, especially in the suspense/thriller genre. And Iskra Todorova has just catapulted to the top of that list.

Hers is definitely not a pretty story—she’s done what she’s had to to survive, and that’s definitely shaped the woman she’s become—but that seems to be a homing beacon as far as Metcalfe men are concerned. (If you’ve read Wolfsbane, featuring Leif’s brother Canyon, you’ll know exactly what I mean.) The dynamic between Iskra and Leif is a super-charged mix of physical, intellectual, and soul-level attraction complicated by a whole host of factors, not least of which is the fact that their missions are at complete odds with one another.

And that’s only one thread to this story. Like all of Kendig’s books, she’s created a whole team of dynamic personalities and brought back one or two favourites readers will know from her Tox Files series. The banter and the camaraderie are as brilliant as ever, the mission is as intriguing as ever, and the action is in a class of its own. I’ll be counting down the days until I can get my hands on the next book in this series.

I received a copy of this novel from the publisher. This has not influenced the content of my review, which is my honest and unbiased opinion.

Readers who love military thrillers with lots of action will love this new series. The descriptive scenes will play like a live action movie. Characters from other series are included in this book so readers may want to read those first. This is a great start to the new series, Book of the Wars.

Storm Rising has been a fantastic ride to be on. Fast paced, complicated at times that may be an understatement) and a "family" reunion as well.

Iskra Todorova is tired of living the way she has been,
as an gun for hire by men who just use her to achieve their agenda. The latest "job" was to retrieve the Book of the Wars". Unfortunately the people who have tasked her with this job know her week spot and they use that to keep her in line.
Leif Metcalf and his team have been through a lot over the last few years and have had to "bury" some of the things they have seen and experienced. Especially Leif. When they came back from Egypt he found that he was physically effected in ways that he was still trying to wrap his brain around. But now they have been tasked with finding the Book of Wars and the criminal who stole it. The answers that he wants will have to wait until they get the book back and are able to apprehend Iskra Todorova for multiple murders and theft.

This is a book that I will be reading again because there is so much to it and I know I have missed things. Thank you Ronie Kendig for allowing me to participate as a reviewer for you. Can't wait for the next one.

Wow. I'll admit I was nervous about how Ronie Kendig would follow the Tox Files series. And then came Leif Metcalfe and his team. This book gripped me from the screaming top line til the final words. Storm Rising is a full on rollercoaster of a book that pulls heart strings, raises adrenaline and causes bags under the eyes. Well done!

Storm Rising by Ronie Kendig is the first book in the new Book of Wars series. I was fascinated by Leif and cannot wait to learn even more about him and his skills. And what happened to him and his team, and the 6 months that he cannot remember. He was the highlight of the book to me. Leif is a navy seal and if you follow Kendig he is the brother to Canyon Metcalfe from Wolfesbane(Discarded Heros-book 3).

Leif has been given a team to find the Book of Wars. I was thrilled that we have Mercy and Cell back for Leif’s team. Devine was another character that I enjoyed. Her skills were impressive.

Kendig did a good job of redeeming Iskra, an assassin. She has you believing she will be good for Leif. Some fun scenes when Leif and Iskra are both going after the same items-think Mr and Mrs Smith.

The Book of Wars was fascinating. In addition, it was frightening to think someone could control the weather. Especially since most of the US has been flooding for the last month.

Storm Rising didn’t have as many faith elements I was expecting and was a little darker than I expected.
It is a great story and I will definitely be reading the rest of the series.

If you are new to Kendig’s writing the introduction of the team may seem overwhelming. Hang in there. It is worth it.
Violence – you know that Iskra has been raped since a young age and held against her will.

Ronie Kendig’s latest book Storm Rising (Book of Wars 1) is exactly what the title says, it is a rising storm that will hit you like thunder and lightning. With her military knowledge Ms. Kendig once again creates a realistic, in this case, SEAL team that is diverse in both personality and ethnicity as well as what they do within the team.
Within these three-hundred-eighty-six pages is a thriller that will have you hanging on for dear life and unable to put down for fear you will miss something. If you’ve read any of Ms. Kendig’s previous books you know what a ride her books are if not buckle up because you will have the ride of your life.
Besides the military angle, I loved the historical/biblical theme that ran throughout the book. I’ve been a huge fan of Ronie Kendig’s since her book Deadly Reckoning was released in 2009. Her story telling and creativity with military thrillers is one of the best in Christian fiction today. If you have been waiting to read a Ronie Kendig novel here’s your chance. It’s the beginning of a new series so what are you waiting for?

“He’d never killed a woman in cold blood before, but now was as good a time as any” (location 48). What an awesome start! This book was SO GOOD! I had a hard time putting it down. It reminded me of the Jason Bourne movies. You can tell there’s something mysterious about Leif that even he doesn’t understand. And there are others who know a lot more than they’re saying. I’ll look forward to learning more as the series continues.
There’s a big treasure hunt going on that spans several continents. There’s action and danger galore and a deep sense of urgency with a few twists thrown in along the way. Viorica reminded me of Black Widow and it was fascinating watching her go toe-to-toe with Leif and his team.
This was a great read! I highly recommend it and hope the next book is coming out soon! Thank you to Bethany House for providing me with a free copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Leif (Runt) Metcalf gets to star in this story. While he played a role in the Tox Files stories, you do not have to have read those stories to understand this one. Kendig produces another rapid fire military suspense thriller. The opening line "He'd never killed a woman before, but now was as good a time as any." hooks you for a thrilling ride. Leif is tasked with finding the ancient manuscript, The book of Wars, that is mentioned in the Old Testament. He finds he is not the only one looking for this text. Iskra (Viorica) Todorova is trying to secure the text to gain her freedom from the Russians. While Leif and Iskra battle the fireworks of attraction, they also form a tenuous working relationship. There are stroms that form internally as well as externally that this team has to fight.

I loved this book and am anxiously awaiting the next book. While I wait, I will have to reread the other books that have the Metcalf family in them. Kendig packs in so much action it leaves you breathless. Finding out that there really is an ancient text mentioned in the Bible blows me away. I love that there is a bit of truth to these fictional stories that capture my imagination. Can't wait for the second book in this series to come out.

Another amazing suspense novel from this author! I love her characters, coupled with the Biblical mystery of artifacts. I would recommend this to anyone and plan on reading the next book.

Thrilling, action-packed, stormy ride. Military hero against a cold-hearted assassin. A heartbreaking past, a hero with a past he can't really remember and a group of heroes, who has each other's backs, but also add some witty banter in down time.

I've read a few of Ronie Kendig's books, and found each of them really good. Storm Rising however, was on a different level. It grabbed my attention from the start and never let go right till the end.

The hero, Leif, just grabbed my heart from the start, with his "never say die" attitude, his own search and questions about his past and his ability to see beneath the surface and compassion for people, some would not think deserve compassion. Plus, if you read Ronie's Discarded Heroes series, he is Canyon Metcalfe's younger brother!

Iskra, oh my, if her story doesn't grab unto your heartstrings... Ronie has such an ability to write characters with really dark pasts. Circumstances which we don't always want to think about but which is so real in the world for others. I'm looking forward to seeing more of her in this series.

Other supporting characters: All the team members in team Leif added so much to my liking of this story. They were witty, but "did-not-take-nonsense" heroes and I enjoyed the banter between all of them. Mercy was probably my favourite with her comments and looking forward to hoping seeing revealed what she is hiding. Plus, the "Divine Intervention" :-)

The story: Action meets military meets speculative= a thrilling ride which never ends. Ronie has such a great way of describing her action, I can actually see what I read. Plus see mentioned Cape Town, South Africa! Her story line around Africa was so good, I actually googled if what she mentioned was real... and her ending was so clever.

So, if you like military, if you like action heroes who actually also gets hurt, if you like characters with not a clean back ground, you should read this book. If you never tried Ronie before, you should read this book.

There might be some people for which some of the content might be too much/sensitive, so will recommend it for 16+

Excuse me while I wallow in a book hangover.......
I wish I could give it more than 5stars!
Seriously this book was amazing.
Action packed, intense, non-stop, ahhhhh I love Kendig's powerful writing!
Leif was a great hero (understatement), he was dedicated, protective and loyal (swoon). You meet some of the characters from the Tox files, and they are off on a new epic adventure.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley. My review is my own. It is so good, I want to read it again right before the second book comes out!!!!!!!
Seriously people, it is that good.
If you like fast paced romantic suspense, you will definitely not want to miss this book!

Storm Rising is a spin off from the Tox Files series, so if you’ve had withdrawal after Thirst of Steel ended, you will definitely want to be first in line to read Storm Rising.

Leif Metcalf takes center stage in Storm Rising to form his own team to hunt down a much sought after mystical artifact. Several characters from other novels make guest appearances, plus new characters team up to fight super powerful storms, an illusion assassin named Viorica, and other mysterious forces.

As a fan of Ronie Kendig, this novel brought all the usual chaos and action I’ve come to love from her novels. The characters work their way into your heart as they face impossibly perilous situations. The author creates characters that readers fall in love with, but of course don’t get too attached, because you never know who might not survive to the end of the story! Cross over characters are a bonus but new ones will keep readers flipping pages. Of course this is the first in a series so expect some cliffhangers.

If you are a fan of gut-wrenching adrenaline-fueled non-stop action and suspense, then this book has to be number one on your summer TBR list. Seriously, stop reading this review and get Storm Rising in your hands. Now. And don’t plan on sleeping anytime soon, because you’ll be tempted to read it cover to cover in one sitting.

I received an ebook review copy of this book through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Storm Rising by Ronie Kendig, a fairly well-written book. A lost scroll harkening back to biblical times has been found, and teams from across the world are racing to have it in hand in hopes it will tell them something about the future.

Have you ever wanted to be someone totally amazing and who is super spy like? Well then get ready for the ride that Ronie Kendig takes you on in her new series The Book of the Wars. I have read many of her books and always love the realism in them, and this start to her new series doesn't disappoint. I absolutely LOVED this book (and so did my husband, who rarely likes reading) it had action, Biblical mystery, swirling relationships (Which hopefully we get to see in the next book) and many daring spy type stunts. A great book that pulls you in and does not want to let go, I read it a week ago and I still keep thinking about the possible scenarios. It was so hard to put down. If you have never read anything by Ronie Kendig this is a great one to start with, and one I highly recommend putting on your summer TBR Pile.

I give this book a 5 out of 5 star rating for the many adventures, the depth of the characters, and for making me feel as though I was right there experiencing all of it first hand. Can not wait to read the next one in this series !!

I volunteered to read this book in exchange for my honest review, the thoughts and opinions expressed within are my own.

What happens when two alpha operatives are after the same highly prized artifact? A collision of wills, training, might and determination! Storm Rising is a fast-paced action thriller that will keep you turning the page. Destruction is happening around the world and one of America’s best operatives is sent to fix the mess, but he runs into trouble. Trouble comes in a beautiful package, a well trained, beautiful lady with not much to lose and only one thing to live for. Ronie Kendig has does an outstanding job of developing the characters, moving the story line and keeping the reader completely involved. Many hours of sleep will be lost because of Storm Rising, because the readers won’t want to put it down.

Storm Rising met every expectation and more. It’s like an amped up Jason Bourne movie with a mysteriously beautiful operative that is hard to beat. Leif Metcalfe brings a team together to search for the historical Book Of The Wars. As his team learns to work together we see new and old characters from Kendig’s prior books popping up! The question is can they get to this historical book before it falls into criminal hands? A highly secretive mission wrapped around layers of mystery, high octane danger, intrigue, romance, and so much more. However, no spoilers here...you have to read it to find out more. This is the first of the Book at the Wars series. Though it can be read without reading any of Kendig’s prior books, the Discarded Heroes series and The Tox Files series would add more depth to a few characters. Honestly though, reading this book will have you so excited that you’ll have to go back and read all of her books. This book does touch on some topics that aren’t for the faint of heart. However Kendig deals with it in such a way that I was hooked from the very first page. I stayed up way too late finishing it and cannot wait for the rest of the story. The ending is wholly satisfying and yet will have you begging for the next book to come out sooner.

I was provided an advanced reader copy through NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own...and in my opinion I honestly loved this book so much that I preordered a copy of my own.

This is only the second Ronie Kendig book I've read. After the first one, I suspected Kendig to have an unparalleled sense of action and adventure, hooking her readers right from the get-go, and proceeding to take them on a non-stop roller coaster ride from the first page to the last... and then leaving them dangling, desperate (read: d-e-s-p-e-r-a-t-e) for more!!!

Reading Storm Rising merely confirmed my suspicion. I'm a little bit dazed, a whole lot awed, and totally and completely hooked on this author's words, the characters she's created, and the flat-out adrenaline rush I got from being so enraptured in this book!

The rest of Kendig's books are now on my TBR, with several of them already queued up at the library. And I'm anxiously awaiting book two in this particular series (The Book of the Wars), because I don't just want to know what comes next. At this point, it's a downright need.

Admittedly, action sequences in books tend to go straight over my head. That's to no fault of the author--Kendig or otherwise--I just have a limited ability to grasp/understand the hows/wheres/whys of what's going on. (Ask my husband--I can hardly follow the news!) But in Kendig's books, Storm Rising especially, I never once stopped visualizing the action. It was like, despite my inability to understand exactly what was happening, I could legit see it all playing out right in front of my eyes. And it. did. not. stop! I was turning pages, biting my nails, and figuratively (and literally) on the edge of my seat the whole time.

Read the book. And when you do, you might as well find someplace comfy to sit and be prepared to stay there awhile.

The swoony alpha male with a mysterious past (Leif) and the enemy-turned-love interest (Iskra/Viorica), will capture your heart straight from the prologue, forcing you to question "will they or won't they and if they ____, how?" the whole way through. Throw in a team of strong supporting characters and a fictional storyline with enough truth in it to make you wonder if said fiction might someday become reality... and you'll soon discover what I mean by adrenaline rush.

And why I now have a love/hate relationship with cliffhangers. The wait is going to be long!

I am grateful for the opportunity to have been given an advanced copy of this book for the purpose of review, however I cannot reiterate this enough--ALL OPINIONS ARE MY OWN.

OH MY GOODNESS! What an epic adventure! I've been sitting here for awhile trying to find the right words to describe the sheer awesomeness that was this book. I'll never be able to do it justice, but I'll try.

Intense and action-packed, Storm Rising was an exciting, heart-pounding, nonstop thrill ride that never slowed down. It's Kendig at her finest. I'm probably sounding like a broken record by now because I say this with every new book from her, but she's really outdone herself this time. How does she keep doing it? If I could give this book more than five stars, I would. It's just that good.

I couldn't read it fast enough. The action starts right at the very beginning and hardly ever lets up, leaving me with barely enough time to take a breath. There were several mind-blowing moments that left me speechless and my mouth gaping open in shock. Moments where I had to put my Kindle down for a minute to digest it all and wonder about the implications.

I want to talk about so much more, but don't want to spoil anything. So, I'll just leave it here with a huge recommendation to grab yourself a copy. Just be prepared for the most epic book hangover you'll ever have.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.
