Ronie Kendig is a gifted storyteller. She takes a real look at military struggles and issues, blending them into fabulous tales which we don’t want to end. This story is one of those tales. From the VERY FIRST line:
“He’d never killed a woman in cold blood before, but now was as good a time as any.”
To the VERY LAST line.
I was hooked and didn’t want to put this book down!
You go on a roller-coaster ride with Leif and his team. From one mission to another with little time to breathe, and that’s what I wanted to do . . . JUST BREATHE! Wow! The action in this book is none stop. Then add to this action, suspense, and weird weather stuff. What you get is a book which will keep you on the edge of your seat, hands white-knuckled on the chair just waiting to see what’s going to happen.
Ronie Kendig knows how to twist and turn the story in such a way you don’t see what’s right in front of you and when you see it, you can’t believe it!
If you want to read a book packed full of intrigue, suspense, action (LOTS OF ACTION!), drama, military struggles, and a bit of romance, then this is the book for you!
You might need a day or two to process all that happens in this book.
Believe me, you won't be able to breathe deeply until the end, but it will be worth it.
I highly recommend reading this book. Pick it up and start on the adventure of your life.
I was given this book by the publisher for an honest review, all opinions are my own.

Okay, what can a girl say about this one? Firstly--it is one of my favourite books of Kendig's. Yes, she has OUTDONE herself--AGAIN. The atmosphere, plot and characters all worked together to create an effortless, but definitely FILLED WITH EFFORT thriller novel. I mean, I loved reading all about Midas in the Discarded Hero series, but now we get more of the Metcalfe family? I mean, what? Yes. It is goals. Quite simply, I wish the Metcalfe family had half a dozen more members and that Kendig would right a series about each one! The love runs that deep, if you can believe it.

So, Iskra & Leif? That chemistry, though! Phew! I loved their interactions and how their relationship progressed. It was just so...dynamic and intense--which is obviously one of the draws with Kendig's work, how intense and raw her characters are. I love when everything is so close to the surface and undignified. But their relationship just kinda made me sing, and gasp, depending on which part of the book I was in--which is what I'm looking for when I read a suspense/thriller book.

Although the plot did feel a bit slower in the middle of the book, it didn't cast a bad light on the rest of the book--I think I just got so attached to the crazy pace that when it slowed down a little I was like...wait, what? But all in all, what a delightful book. Really alive, punchy characters and a fully immersive atmosphere that takes you from one stretch of the globe to another, all while sitting in your favourite comfy chair.

Suspense lovers unite and GO READ STORM RISING!!!

I’ve never read any of Kendig’s books, but I’ve heard great things about them for years, so I was excited to be chosen to be part of the launch team for her latest release, Storm Rising. I now understand all the hype about Kendig’s books, as she’s a gifted storyteller. She showcases military life and its associated struggles in a way that’s relatable to civilians.

In Storm Rising, Kendig captures the readers attention from the first page, and the fast-pace action keeps them holding on until the end. This book has a little bit of something for just about everyone, from suspense to drama to a little bit of romance. The chemistry between Iskra and Leif is realistic and intense. There were a few lulls in the plot, but things balanced out in the end, which will leave the reader anxiously awaiting the second book in the series.

Ronie Kendig's The Book of Wars series opener, Storm Rising, is a tension filled mixture of James Bond and Indiana Jones. The plot moved and kept moving from one hair raising moment to the next. Wow! I can't imagine writing something like this. I know that movies do it all the time, so I know it can be done, but to have Kendig create it out of words for my imagination to fill in the blank is a huge feat. If readers are familiar with Kendig's previous series, The Tox Files, then they should be familiar with Leif. He is a truly heroic man who will do anything to protect others. So of course, Iskra makes the perfect foil for Leif. She wants her freedom, but she is equipped with skills to challenge any assassin. Her reasoning for hunting to the Book of Wars is honest and admirable. Overall, Ronie Kendig's Storm Rising took me for a wild ride all over and allowed me to empathize with the characters. I anxiously await for the next book in the series. Like I do with all of Kendig's novels. Definitely books for the keeper shelf.

I received a complimentary copy of Storm Rising by Ronie Kendig from Bethany House Publishers, but the opinions stated are all my own.

STORM RISING is the first book I have read by RONIE KENDIG and I must say that it had me on quite a ride as I followed Leif and his team in their pursuit of an ancient scroll that led to all sorts of confrontation, as they were not the only people trying to find it, hair raising adventure, man made storms, and even some romance.
I liked Leif for his determination to protect Iskra, even though she was playing him in the beginning, for his dedication to his team, and his rather corny sense of humour!
It is a military thriller and I can recommend it to anyone who enjoys this genre.

If Bourne and Captain America had a baby, it would be Storm Rising. Wait. That doesn’t sound right. But you get my point, don’t you? Touches of conspiracy theories and more-than-just-undertones of genetic modifications to create a super soldier/army. Plus that thread of the fantastical woven between the blood-pumping adrenaline that is military thriller. If you’ve read The Tox Files, you know what you’re in for. If not, well, buckle up for a ride. And while the historical/Biblical references are interesting, keep in mind this is a piece of fiction that is extraneous and not a basis for doctrine. (Yes, I realize that’s like those caution signs saying “this is not an exit” taped to walk in freezers, but, you know, they had to put stuff like that up for a reason. I’m just saying.)
Kendig is a master at diverse characters, be it ethnicity, background, occupation, or whatever. And the chemistry she creates between her characters (and I’m not just talking romantic, although, like everything else in a Kendig book, is HOT) is some of the best. There is so much more than just the hero and heroine...there is a whole team, and Kendig pretty much writes you in as a member of said team. So pull up your bootstraps and zip up your tactical gear and let’s go pound the ground. Hooay!

Storm Rising is another captivating book from Ronie Kendig. Leif Metcalfe, while still puzzling over past events, is thrust into a mission involving a plot to bring about the Apocalypse. As if that weren’t enough, he finds more trouble along the way.

With all the struggles faced by the characters, the plot is easy to follow, and exciting to read. The different aspects come together and create a story that keeps you reading. Several genres are used, and they are seamlessly put into the plot, one flowing into another. You can find suspense, action, intrigue, and even some romantic chemistry. Kendig also uses Biblical artifacts and science fiction as bases for the story.

While I always enjoy the excitement of her books, I also like how faith in God is evident. The struggle characters face on trusting God makes them feel more realistic, since that is something people face in real life.

I’m eager to see what happens in the next book.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Kendig does it again. From the very start she had me pulled in and wanting to find out what happens next. Her imagination runs wild in Storm Rising. Her ability to share a story with so many threads is intriguing and expertly crafted. I like how she pulls out so many personalities, giving layers to each one. Just when you think you know, she comes up with another twist that makes you realize there is so much more to the team and it's members! I enjoy Kendig's creativity as she gives life to seeming obscure references easily overlooked in Biblical stories.
Storm Rising is fast paced with lots of action and continuous mystery. Readers get to see Leif "Runt" Metcalfe take on leadership of his own covert ops team, as they fight to save a historical scroll referenced in the book of Numbers and rescue the world. Put on your Life vest a Storm is Rising!

I have no idea how Ronie Kendig does it, but I'm glad she does!

I highly HIGHLY recommend you read The Tox Files... no fear, they're so good and engaging that you'll quickly be opening this one ;)

Anyway, Storm Rising follows some characters from the Tox's books and there are some spoilers.

I love history and archaeology and a good mystery, Who knew an author could put this all together in a contemporary setting?

Leif Metcalfe has no recollection of the past months. In hoped to achieve more answers about himself, he agrees to lead a team of his own to recover an artifact surrounded in mystery before it ends up in the wrong hands. But there's more to the story than dangerous spies. As a mysterious and dangerous Bulgarian agent gets tangled up with the team on the wrong side, as her story is unveiled alongside what the artifact might actually be, the fine lines between enemies turns even more delicate and unsure.

4.5 stars

Miss Ronie's books are always chock-full of suspense, action and incredibleness!! I was so excited to read a book about Lief, who was a side character in one of the Tox Files books, and I wasn't disappointed!

Things I liked:
-Um, hello, Lief! He was so epic! And his backstory that kept getting hinted at and such...just yes. So much yes.
-The snark?? If you have a book with a group of people that aren't afraid to tease each other, and all the camaraderie...in my case, it's instant love, basically.
-The injuriiiieeees. Don't give me that look, I don't like it when good guys die, but when they just get hurt...well, yes, this book nailed it. The good guys weren't immune to a little roughing up. It was fabulous.
-Just yeah, allll da peeps.

Things I didn't like:
-The romance. I know this is a romance book, and I KNOW that it shouldn't necessarily dock part of my rating consequently, since I kinda knew what to expect, but...no thank you. Sappy? Definitely. Detailed? Quite. No, I don't want to hear about your 'sizzling attraction' or the detailed kissing.
BUT. The rest of the book made up for it, sooooo
-The spiritual content was...almost nonexistent? There were a few mentions of God, but...that was it. I'm not quite sure that it could technically count as Christian fiction. BUT. The book was pretty much squeaky clean in the language aspect, which I SO APPRECIATE.

Overall thoughts:
UM I NEED THE NEXT BOOK PLEASE. Like, RIGHT NOW. Like, the book didn't necessarily end on a cliffhanger, but it definitely left questions waiting to be answered in further books.
And that's another thing—I was pretty much confused throughout the whole book. Some of the stuff went over my head (which, I suppose, is to be expected, with what they were looking for), but I was still left in confusion. And some of the locations were super hard to picture in my mind from lack of description.
BUT all this to say...this book is epiiiiic and I can't wait for the next! <3

I'm going to start out by saying that at this point, if Ronie Kendig were to publish her grocery list, I'd probably buy it.

Anyway, OMG, this book!! As usual, there was sass and humor and chemistry and family. I love the way Leif and his team work so well together. I did wish there had been a little more history about them but at the same time, what was there worked. I look forward to seeing them kick butt in the rest of the series. (*speaking of which, is it April yet?) I also loved getting to see some old characters, not only from The Tox Files, but also getting more on the Metcalfe's from back in the Discarded Heroes!! It was interesting to see Canyon again and there's part of me that hopes the rest of them get to make a cameo or two!

I was curious about several things:
For example: Cell. Granted after things happened with the AFO and Ram and all of that, it's kind of understandable that he might not want to be boots on the ground anymore, but at the same time, he felt like he was a lot more...evasive about his actual reasons/job description now that he's with Leif and co. Or maybe that's just me? Then there's Andrew. What side is he on?! Good guy? Bad guy? Loki? Enigma's abound! I'd also like to know more about the Meteoroi and those components. Mainly: How many are left! And what happened to Leif in the desert? Iliescu is worried and enough that he brings in Canyon, so there's something. I find myself in need of answers almost as bad as Leif!!

I do want to talk about the chemistry. Oh baby! I loved it!! The team in general had great chemistry and was able to work so well together, anticipating and watching each other's backs and also able to rib each other like there's no tomorrow. And then there's the romance. Even amongst the danger, I found myself getting giddy with excitement as things progressed. Of course, there were some things that had me almost screaming (I reined myself in since I was at work) as people got soooooo close and then backed away for whatever reason. But that being said, I loved the determination that was exhibited when going after the one they wanted

OH MY GOODNESS! What an epic adventure! I've been sitting here for awhile trying to find the right words to describe the sheer awesomeness that was this book. I'll never be able to do it justice, but I'll try.

Intense and action-packed, Storm Rising was an exciting, heart-pounding, nonstop thrill ride that never slowed down. It's Kendig at her finest. I'm probably sounding like a broken record by now because I say this with every new book from her, but she's really outdone herself this time. How does she keep doing it? If I could give this book more than five stars, I would. It's just that good.

I couldn't read it fast enough. The action starts right at the very beginning and hardly ever lets up, leaving me with barely enough time to take a breath. There were several mind-blowing moments that left me speechless and my mouth gaping open in shock. Moments where I had to put my Kindle down for a minute to digest it all and wonder about the implications.

I want to talk about so much more, but don't want to spoil anything. So, I'll just leave it here with a huge recommendation to grab yourself a copy. Just be prepared for the most epic book hangover you'll ever have.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.

This is only the second Ronie Kendig book I've read. After the first one, I suspected Kendig to have an unparalleled sense of action and adventure, hooking her readers right from the get-go, and proceeding to take them on a non-stop roller coaster ride from the first page to the last... and then leaving them dangling, desperate (read: d-e-s-p-e-r-a-t-e) for more!!!

Reading Storm Rising merely confirmed my suspicion. I'm a little bit dazed, a whole lot awed, and totally and completely hooked on this author's words, the characters she's created, and the flat-out adrenaline rush I got from being so enraptured in this book!

The rest of Kendig's books are now on my TBR, with several of them already queued up at the library. And I'm anxiously awaiting book two in this particular series (The Book of the Wars), because I don't just want to know what comes next. At this point, it's a downright need.

Admittedly, action sequences in books tend to go straight over my head. That's to no fault of the author--Kendig or otherwise--I just have a limited ability to grasp/understand the hows/wheres/whys of what's going on. (Ask my husband--I can hardly follow the news!) But in Kendig's books, Storm Rising especially, I never once stopped visualizing the action. It was like, despite my inability to understand exactly what was happening, I could legit see it all playing out right in front of my eyes. And it. did. not. stop! I was turning pages, biting my nails, and figuratively (and literally) on the edge of my seat the whole time.

Read the book. And when you do, you might as well find someplace comfy to sit and be prepared to stay there awhile.

The swoony alpha male with a mysterious past (Leif) and the enemy-turned-love interest (Iskra/Viorica), will capture your heart straight from the prologue, forcing you to question "will they or won't they and if they ____, how?" the whole way through. Throw in a team of strong supporting characters and a fictional storyline with enough truth in it to make you wonder if said fiction might someday become reality... and you'll soon discover what I mean by adrenaline rush.

And why I now have a love/hate relationship with cliffhangers. The wait is going to be long!

I am grateful for the opportunity to have been given an advanced copy of this book for the purpose of review, however I cannot reiterate this enough--ALL OPINIONS ARE MY OWN.

Storm Rising met every expectation and more. It’s like an amped up Jason Bourne movie with a mysteriously beautiful operative that is hard to beat. Leif Metcalfe brings a team together to search for the historical Book Of The Wars. As his team learns to work together we see new and old characters from Kendig’s prior books popping up! The question is can they get to this historical book before it falls into criminal hands? A highly secretive mission wrapped around layers of mystery, high octane danger, intrigue, romance, and so much more. However, no spoilers here...you have to read it to find out more. This is the first of the Book at the Wars series. Though it can be read without reading any of Kendig’s prior books, the Discarded Heroes series and The Tox Files series would add more depth to a few characters. Honestly though, reading this book will have you so excited that you’ll have to go back and read all of her books. This book does touch on some topics that aren’t for the faint of heart. However Kendig deals with it in such a way that I was hooked from the very first page. I stayed up way too late finishing it and cannot wait for the rest of the story. The ending is wholly satisfying and yet will have you begging for the next book to come out sooner.

I was provided an advanced reader copy through NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own...and in my opinion I honestly loved this book so much that I preordered a copy of my own.

What happens when two alpha operatives are after the same highly prized artifact? A collision of wills, training, might and determination! Storm Rising is a fast-paced action thriller that will keep you turning the page. Destruction is happening around the world and one of America’s best operatives is sent to fix the mess, but he runs into trouble. Trouble comes in a beautiful package, a well trained, beautiful lady with not much to lose and only one thing to live for. Ronie Kendig has does an outstanding job of developing the characters, moving the story line and keeping the reader completely involved. Many hours of sleep will be lost because of Storm Rising, because the readers won’t want to put it down.

Have you ever wanted to be someone totally amazing and who is super spy like? Well then get ready for the ride that Ronie Kendig takes you on in her new series The Book of the Wars. I have read many of her books and always love the realism in them, and this start to her new series doesn't disappoint. I absolutely LOVED this book (and so did my husband, who rarely likes reading) it had action, Biblical mystery, swirling relationships (Which hopefully we get to see in the next book) and many daring spy type stunts. A great book that pulls you in and does not want to let go, I read it a week ago and I still keep thinking about the possible scenarios. It was so hard to put down. If you have never read anything by Ronie Kendig this is a great one to start with, and one I highly recommend putting on your summer TBR Pile.

I give this book a 5 out of 5 star rating for the many adventures, the depth of the characters, and for making me feel as though I was right there experiencing all of it first hand. Can not wait to read the next one in this series !!

I volunteered to read this book in exchange for my honest review, the thoughts and opinions expressed within are my own.

Storm Rising by Ronie Kendig, a fairly well-written book. A lost scroll harkening back to biblical times has been found, and teams from across the world are racing to have it in hand in hopes it will tell them something about the future.

Storm Rising is a spin off from the Tox Files series, so if you’ve had withdrawal after Thirst of Steel ended, you will definitely want to be first in line to read Storm Rising.

Leif Metcalf takes center stage in Storm Rising to form his own team to hunt down a much sought after mystical artifact. Several characters from other novels make guest appearances, plus new characters team up to fight super powerful storms, an illusion assassin named Viorica, and other mysterious forces.

As a fan of Ronie Kendig, this novel brought all the usual chaos and action I’ve come to love from her novels. The characters work their way into your heart as they face impossibly perilous situations. The author creates characters that readers fall in love with, but of course don’t get too attached, because you never know who might not survive to the end of the story! Cross over characters are a bonus but new ones will keep readers flipping pages. Of course this is the first in a series so expect some cliffhangers.

If you are a fan of gut-wrenching adrenaline-fueled non-stop action and suspense, then this book has to be number one on your summer TBR list. Seriously, stop reading this review and get Storm Rising in your hands. Now. And don’t plan on sleeping anytime soon, because you’ll be tempted to read it cover to cover in one sitting.

Excuse me while I wallow in a book hangover.......
I wish I could give it more than 5stars!
Seriously this book was amazing.
Action packed, intense, non-stop, ahhhhh I love Kendig's powerful writing!
Leif was a great hero (understatement), he was dedicated, protective and loyal (swoon). You meet some of the characters from the Tox files, and they are off on a new epic adventure.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley. My review is my own. It is so good, I want to read it again right before the second book comes out!!!!!!!
Seriously people, it is that good.
If you like fast paced romantic suspense, you will definitely not want to miss this book!

Thrilling, action-packed, stormy ride. Military hero against a cold-hearted assassin. A heartbreaking past, a hero with a past he can't really remember and a group of heroes, who has each other's backs, but also add some witty banter in down time.

I've read a few of Ronie Kendig's books, and found each of them really good. Storm Rising however, was on a different level. It grabbed my attention from the start and never let go right till the end.

The hero, Leif, just grabbed my heart from the start, with his "never say die" attitude, his own search and questions about his past and his ability to see beneath the surface and compassion for people, some would not think deserve compassion. Plus, if you read Ronie's Discarded Heroes series, he is Canyon Metcalfe's younger brother!

Iskra, oh my, if her story doesn't grab unto your heartstrings... Ronie has such an ability to write characters with really dark pasts. Circumstances which we don't always want to think about but which is so real in the world for others. I'm looking forward to seeing more of her in this series.

Other supporting characters: All the team members in team Leif added so much to my liking of this story. They were witty, but "did-not-take-nonsense" heroes and I enjoyed the banter between all of them. Mercy was probably my favourite with her comments and looking forward to hoping seeing revealed what she is hiding. Plus, the "Divine Intervention" :-)

The story: Action meets military meets speculative= a thrilling ride which never ends. Ronie has such a great way of describing her action, I can actually see what I read. Plus see mentioned Cape Town, South Africa! Her story line around Africa was so good, I actually googled if what she mentioned was real... and her ending was so clever.

So, if you like military, if you like action heroes who actually also gets hurt, if you like characters with not a clean back ground, you should read this book. If you never tried Ronie before, you should read this book.

There might be some people for which some of the content might be too much/sensitive, so will recommend it for 16+

Another amazing suspense novel from this author! I love her characters, coupled with the Biblical mystery of artifacts. I would recommend this to anyone and plan on reading the next book.

Leif (Runt) Metcalf gets to star in this story. While he played a role in the Tox Files stories, you do not have to have read those stories to understand this one. Kendig produces another rapid fire military suspense thriller. The opening line "He'd never killed a woman before, but now was as good a time as any." hooks you for a thrilling ride. Leif is tasked with finding the ancient manuscript, The book of Wars, that is mentioned in the Old Testament. He finds he is not the only one looking for this text. Iskra (Viorica) Todorova is trying to secure the text to gain her freedom from the Russians. While Leif and Iskra battle the fireworks of attraction, they also form a tenuous working relationship. There are stroms that form internally as well as externally that this team has to fight.

I loved this book and am anxiously awaiting the next book. While I wait, I will have to reread the other books that have the Metcalf family in them. Kendig packs in so much action it leaves you breathless. Finding out that there really is an ancient text mentioned in the Bible blows me away. I love that there is a bit of truth to these fictional stories that capture my imagination. Can't wait for the second book in this series to come out.

“He’d never killed a woman in cold blood before, but now was as good a time as any” (location 48). What an awesome start! This book was SO GOOD! I had a hard time putting it down. It reminded me of the Jason Bourne movies. You can tell there’s something mysterious about Leif that even he doesn’t understand. And there are others who know a lot more than they’re saying. I’ll look forward to learning more as the series continues.
There’s a big treasure hunt going on that spans several continents. There’s action and danger galore and a deep sense of urgency with a few twists thrown in along the way. Viorica reminded me of Black Widow and it was fascinating watching her go toe-to-toe with Leif and his team.
This was a great read! I highly recommend it and hope the next book is coming out soon! Thank you to Bethany House for providing me with a free copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Ronie Kendig’s latest book Storm Rising (Book of Wars 1) is exactly what the title says, it is a rising storm that will hit you like thunder and lightning. With her military knowledge Ms. Kendig once again creates a realistic, in this case, SEAL team that is diverse in both personality and ethnicity as well as what they do within the team.
Within these three-hundred-eighty-six pages is a thriller that will have you hanging on for dear life and unable to put down for fear you will miss something. If you’ve read any of Ms. Kendig’s previous books you know what a ride her books are if not buckle up because you will have the ride of your life.
Besides the military angle, I loved the historical/biblical theme that ran throughout the book. I’ve been a huge fan of Ronie Kendig’s since her book Deadly Reckoning was released in 2009. Her story telling and creativity with military thrillers is one of the best in Christian fiction today. If you have been waiting to read a Ronie Kendig novel here’s your chance. It’s the beginning of a new series so what are you waiting for?

Storm Rising by Ronie Kendig is the first book in the new Book of Wars series. I was fascinated by Leif and cannot wait to learn even more about him and his skills. And what happened to him and his team, and the 6 months that he cannot remember. He was the highlight of the book to me. Leif is a navy seal and if you follow Kendig he is the brother to Canyon Metcalfe from Wolfesbane(Discarded Heros-book 3).

Leif has been given a team to find the Book of Wars. I was thrilled that we have Mercy and Cell back for Leif’s team. Devine was another character that I enjoyed. Her skills were impressive.

Kendig did a good job of redeeming Iskra, an assassin. She has you believing she will be good for Leif. Some fun scenes when Leif and Iskra are both going after the same items-think Mr and Mrs Smith.

The Book of Wars was fascinating. In addition, it was frightening to think someone could control the weather. Especially since most of the US has been flooding for the last month.

Storm Rising didn’t have as many faith elements I was expecting and was a little darker than I expected.
It is a great story and I will definitely be reading the rest of the series.

If you are new to Kendig’s writing the introduction of the team may seem overwhelming. Hang in there. It is worth it.
Violence – you know that Iskra has been raped since a young age and held against her will.

I received this book from Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review.

Wow. I'll admit I was nervous about how Ronie Kendig would follow the Tox Files series. And then came Leif Metcalfe and his team. This book gripped me from the screaming top line til the final words. Storm Rising is a full on rollercoaster of a book that pulls heart strings, raises adrenaline and causes bags under the eyes. Well done!

Storm Rising has been a fantastic ride to be on. Fast paced, complicated at times that may be an understatement) and a "family" reunion as well.

Iskra Todorova is tired of living the way she has been,
as an gun for hire by men who just use her to achieve their agenda. The latest "job" was to retrieve the Book of the Wars". Unfortunately the people who have tasked her with this job know her week spot and they use that to keep her in line.
Leif Metcalf and his team have been through a lot over the last few years and have had to "bury" some of the things they have seen and experienced. Especially Leif. When they came back from Egypt he found that he was physically effected in ways that he was still trying to wrap his brain around. But now they have been tasked with finding the Book of Wars and the criminal who stole it. The answers that he wants will have to wait until they get the book back and are able to apprehend Iskra Todorova for multiple murders and theft.

This is a book that I will be reading again because there is so much to it and I know I have missed things. Thank you Ronie Kendig for allowing me to participate as a reviewer for you. Can't wait for the next one.

Readers who love military thrillers with lots of action will love this new series. The descriptive scenes will play like a live action movie. Characters from other series are included in this book so readers may want to read those first. This is a great start to the new series, Book of the Wars.

If I were going to write a one-word review for this book, it would be intense. If I were going to write a two-word review, it would be insanely good. But since brevity has never been one of my strong points, you’re going to get a whole lot more than that.

When I say this story was intense, I mean that in every possible way. The plot is intense; the action is intense; the characters are intense; the adrenaline spike is intense! But what sucks me into this author’s books again and again is the way she delivers not only such fantastic, action-filled plots but also characters you can’t help but become deeply invested in. Her characters are some of the most complex and best-written characters I’ve encountered, especially in the suspense/thriller genre. And Iskra Todorova has just catapulted to the top of that list.

Hers is definitely not a pretty story—she’s done what she’s had to to survive, and that’s definitely shaped the woman she’s become—but that seems to be a homing beacon as far as Metcalfe men are concerned. (If you’ve read Wolfsbane, featuring Leif’s brother Canyon, you’ll know exactly what I mean.) The dynamic between Iskra and Leif is a super-charged mix of physical, intellectual, and soul-level attraction complicated by a whole host of factors, not least of which is the fact that their missions are at complete odds with one another.

And that’s only one thread to this story. Like all of Kendig’s books, she’s created a whole team of dynamic personalities and brought back one or two favourites readers will know from her Tox Files series. The banter and the camaraderie are as brilliant as ever, the mission is as intriguing as ever, and the action is in a class of its own. I’ll be counting down the days until I can get my hands on the next book in this series.

I received a copy of this novel from the publisher. This has not influenced the content of my review, which is my honest and unbiased opinion.

After years of serving under the command of someone else, Leif Metcalfe now has his own team to command, bringing his very own adventure more complicated than any he has faced before.

Leif Metcalfe has a difficult past and knows that it will be hard to push past all that to command his very own team. The time has come for him to step up and take charge. He and his team are tasked with finding the notorious Book of the Wars. They are not the only ones looking for it though. Iskra “Viorica” Todorova, a notorious Bulgarian operative gets to the book first. Iskra is being used by the man that kidnapped her, raped her and trained her to be a skilled assassin. If she can bring the book back to him, she might be able to secure her freedom. As both Leif and Iskra work to secure the book, strange storms blow up around the world that foreshadow the wars described in the book. To get away and secure her freedom, Iskra will have to do the one thing she thought possible, trust someone. Leif doesn’t know if he can trust Iskra but he also knows it might be his only way to secure the book and stop the destruction before it is too late.

If you are a fan of Kendig’s Tox files, you will not want to miss Storm Rising. Many of the same characters are back with Leif including Mercy Maddox (one of my personal favorites in this and I can’t wait to see more with her). I loved the pace of this stor; it was very detailed but not so much so that it took me out of the story. The Tox Files got so deep with the archeology aspects that it can be hard to keep up with everything happening sometimes, still a great story though. Here we get a much lighter story that reads very smooth and will easily keep readers engaged throughout. Ronie Kendig has always had a way of weaving a story that is so rich in history, suspense, and characters that are drawn together in a way that feels natural and real. With each new novel she just gets better and better. This is by far her best work, especially with character development and a natural flow with the relationships and how they fit together smoothly. When dealing with a team like this, there are a lot of characters and at times it can seem like a few too many but as the story plays out readers discover the need for each one. With the next book, I hope to see even more development for these smaller roles. As I said earlier, my favorite character in this book was Mercy, she is feisty, real and exhibits such energy that I can’t wait to see her further develop. She has so much potential as a lead character and I would love to see that for her. I recommend Storm Rising to fans of Kendig’s earlier work, but if this is your first time picking up a book by Ronie Kendig you won’t be lost. Even with the tie in to the previous series, new readers will be able to pick up and follow along with the story without a problem. Another great addition to my library.

An elite team of soldiers, with top-of-their-field hackers and specialists in various fields, racing desperately to get the prize before foreign groups with nefarious plans gets their hands on...a book?!? Wait, what? Ohhh, but this isn’t just ANY book! This is a book spoken of in the Bible, thought to have prophetic knowledge of wars to come!

Joining Lief, Mercy, Devine, Cell and the team as they battle evil, and the elements, learning who they can and can’t trust, while chasing THE BOOK OF WARS is a can’t-put-down adventure! (Ok yes, I put it down but only because hungry toddlers have a way of making themselves known lol)

The witty repartee. The adrenaline packed storyline. Watching the group meld into a team…. this is a don’t miss book!!!

Ronie Kendig is back with a brand new series and a group you’ll love!

Leif “Runt” Metcalfe has been tasked with finding the Book of Wars and builds a team he believes can assist him. Y’all, the number one thing I loved about the team was seeing people from past Kendig books. Nothing like running into old friends! Plus, I really loved meeting the new people. I think I’ll have some favorites. With a diverse group of characters—from all backgrounds, faith, etc—you’ll love the team that takes you on a journey all over the world.

And the romance thread…. I love romance and this one is no exception. What’s even better? The hints of romance between other team members. I love that the team isn’t all male because it makes it that much more realistic and entertaining.

Oh and did I mention I read this in one sitting, squinting at one in the morning to make sure I was reading the correct words and not succumbing to sleep? Only now I have to wait for book 2 which means book 1 will be reread a few times for memory’s sake.

All in all, I’m thrilled for another Kendig book and a new series.

This is another action packed novel from Kendig and the beginning of a new series. Several people are hunting an ancient book that contains prophecies. Control of the book might mean the difference as to who controls the future. The bad guys are aggressive and deadly. One of them is Viorica, a female assassin held under the control of a really bad guy. But when she is confronted by Lief, a good guy from the American team, we wonder if the only way to save the world is for the two to work together. The possibility of romance is pitted against claims of deception and betrayal.

Kendig's novel is full of action and is exciting to read. Her writing style has always irritated me and this novel is no exception. I can understand incomplete sentences in dialogue but not in prose. I know it is for effect. I just don't like it.

I also get sidetracked by her use of odd verbs and adverbs. “Her pulse jammed...” (806/6573) When guns are jammed, they cease to work. But that is not what happened to her heart. “Her gaze collided with his again.” (826/6573) Cars and trains might collide, but gazes? Interestingly enough, this character actually “collided”” with a man a little later on. (857/6573)

Even though this is the first in a new series, the characters involved have a great deal of unrecorded back story. The characters frequently talk about the previous experiences but I was left wondering what they were talking about. “Ram gave his life to stop them.” (784/6573) There was nothing nearby to indicate who he stopped. Were they evil operatives or a herd of enraged bulls? We don't know.

Kendig is known for her action packed novels and this one is full of intense action and suspense. If you love action, you'll love this novel. If you're not a stickler for the proper use of language, you'll enjoy her writing style too.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.

Make no mistake, Ronie Kendig is a master at her craft! Storm Rising is the first in her new series, The Book of Wars. With over 30 novels written since 2010, Kendig has won multiple awards. While many of her novels are Christian military suspense and romance, the author also delves into other genres such as fantasy.

The premise, or foundation, of The Book of Wars is based on an ancient text from the Septuagint, which is, according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, “a Greek version of the Jewish scriptures redacted in the third and second centuries b.c. by Jewish scholars and adopted by Greek-speaking Christians.”
Whew! That is a rather mind boggling description and one I think I’ll leave to the more learned scholars. Moving on to Storm Rising...

The Book of Wars is an ancient text full of secrets and many are those who want to possess it. Former Navy Seal, Leif Metcalfe (aka Runt) is tapped to command his own team to find The Book of Wars before someone else can. Iskra “Viorica” Todorova is determined to find the book for with the book she can obtain her freedom from a cruel taskmaster, a man who has no good purpose for the ancient text.

Amidst unusual and destructive storms worldwide, Leif and Viorica form a rather interesting pact to obtain The Book of Life, before the next storm unleashes, destroying entire countries and the entire team.

Those readers who have read Kendig’s previous military suspense series will recognize Leif Metcalfe, or Runt, along with a few others who make up the first team Runt commands. If you have not read the previous series, that is of no consequence, Storm Rising is the first in a new series and enjoyment does not hinge upon having read any previous novels. For me as a reader, bringing in characters from previous series’ just makes the reading that much more fun! However, it generally takes about a year for a novel to be released from the first basic outline to the finished product; that means you have lots more time to read some of Kendig’s previous novels. I bet you’ll be hooked!

Full of nonstop action, Storm Rising will keep the reader on the edge of their seats. I very highly recommend it.

I am not sure why it has taken me this long to fall in love with Ronie Kendig's writing, but I am very thankful there are lots more books I can catch up with! If you like action, suspense, current world events or shows on the military (ie, NCIS, The Unit, The A-Team, Shooter, Seal Team) this book is for you!

"Storm Rising" is the first book in a new series called the Book of the Wars. Kendig sets up the premise of new characters (and enemies) in a realistic, involving way. What's not to fall in love with? There's danger lurking around every corner, a paramilitary group, Biblical archaeology, secret scrolls ( as mentioned in Numbers 21:14a) that can predict future wars, odd meteorological storms that pop out of nowhere...and two main characters who both have difficult backstories.

Since I am only embarking on the beginning of my new appreciation of Kendig's work, I am a bit behind the times, as her prior Tox Files series was wildly successful, earning her many accolades. I can see why that happened, as Kendig does her military research. She also reminds the reader of the humanity and heartbreaks of the soldiers involved in life and death situations, something those who are not familiar with military life might not understand. Lead male character Leif Metcalfe has been mentioned in prior Kendig stories (Crown of Souls) and has another appearance in "Thirst of Steel." The female character of Viorica has some secrets of her own, as a well known assassin/spy should have. But all is not as it seems, and the reader must develop their own ideas of whom is trustworthy and who is playing both sides. Kendig's writing is action filled but still has time for emotion, addressing unique struggles and finding a hopeful future after the drama subsides. There is also a great feeling of camaraderie that is central to the development of the story, characters and the final cliffhanging end. (If you've followed my reviews for any length of time, you know how hard cliffhangers are for me!)

I started this book a little while ago, but life got in the way. Once I dug in, though, I finished this book in record time. It was so good that there were actually times I was holding my breath, something I rarely do with books! The story progresses like a good action movie and after a while, your feelings of urgency matches that of the characters in distress! I was able to read an early copy, thanks to Bethany House and chose to leave a review. All opinions are my own.

Hurry, Ronie. I can't wait for the next entry in the series!

‘He’d never killed a woman in cold blood before, but now was as good a time as any ‘

When this sentence leads off a book, it just pulls you in completely. If you enjoy books with nonstop action, then here is your book. It’s mind boggling trying to imagine the mind if this author. Wow!

*My thanks to Bethany House Publishers for a copy of this book. The opinion here is entirely my own.

“God had a funny sense of humor, making their minds so equally matched.”

Incredible. Just incredible. Ronie Kendig is known to unleash high-adrenaline, action-packed, intense military romantic suspense but this first installment in The Book of Wars series absolutely tops her previous books. Mind you, I have adored Tox and his crew through three heart-stopping novels and a novella prequel in The Tox Files but this book, with a covert op leader Leif as the hero and a trained assassin Iskra as his female counterpart, just elevates the experience up a few notches. As Leif’s team, Iskra on behalf of her Russian mobster boss, a German group, and another nebulous entity named Armageddon Coalition all race and fight against each other to find this ancient artifact called The Book of Wars that details previous wars and prophesies future wars, plot twists, betrayals, and fierce loyalty abound to bring forth a book that will set your heart racing.

The characters, especially Leif and Iskra, are multi-dimensional and deeply layered. The familiar faces of Mercy and Cell from the Tox Files are sweet to behold but their backstories, if you are not familiar with them, are not necessary to enjoy the plot in Storm Rising. The technology discussed in the story is quite fascinating and I’m anxiously awaiting where Ronie Kendig will take Leif’s team in the next book!

If you enjoy a well-written romantic suspense/thriller, this book is a must-read! I received a copy of the book from Bethany House and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.

Storm Rising, the first book in the Book of the Wars series, packs an extremely powerful punch! This author is known for combining high intensity military storylines with mysteries tied to Biblical artifacts and settings. And the thread of romance is woven into these storylines in just the perfect way. Storm Rising incorporates all of these elements in a new and exciting way, and now has me anxiously anticipating book two!

I liked Leif and Iskra, so much! I loved the way I could connect with these characters who had both gone through so much in their pasts and were such strong and often intimidating people. Yet, the author was able to tell their backstories in a way that didn’t weaken them, but explained them.

I am excited about this new series and seeing what happens with all of the characters on Leif’s team in future books.

Y’all Ronie Kendig’s books just get better and better, and Storm Rising exceed all of my (already high) expectations.

Meet the new team—some familiar faces for long-time fans of Kendig and a few new ones. This time, they’re hunting down The Book of the Wars. Briefly mentioned in the Biblical book of Numbers, this book just may predict wars, even ones that haven’t happened yet. If that isn’t enough, add to the mix a Bulgarian operative who is as tough and intelligent as Leif Metcalfe, some crazy weather phenomena, and Storm Rising is an adrenaline-fueled all-out adventure I could not put down.

Kendig excels at character development and relationships (romantic, team dynamics, family. You name it and Kendig had done it well). Racing around the globe with Leif, Iskra, and the others felt like watching a move (or maybe a mini-series because you get more detail than a two-hour movie) where you just can’t catch your breath. But when it’s finished, the first thing you say is, “I can’t wait for the next one!” And I really can’t.

I needed a seat belt for this ride! Ronie Kendig knows a thing or two about action and I have learned to expect a punch from the get-go. Hunky heroes, tragic assassins, unprecedented storms and hints of super soldiers? How does Kendig keep outdoing herself?

One of Kendig’s greatest strengths is her characters. Enter Leif “Runt” Metcalfe, a man missing six moths of his life and looking for some answers. A familiar face to those who have read The Tox Files, Leif more than holds his own as the leading man. I was wary of Iskra at first. I knew she had a lot going on under the surface, but she fought tooth and nail to keep her secrets. As the layers slowly unfolded though, my heart broke for her.

And the romance? The chemistry between Leif and Iskra nearly singed my eyelashes! They just get each other. There are some hints of other romances on the team as well and I am more than ready to dive into these relationships.

If you’re ready for a high-octane read and a sleepless night or two then this is the book for you. Just be prepared for the torture of waiting for the sequel.

I am amazed at how talented this author is. She is able to write a story that jumps off the pages and becomes real. You can feel yourself there as the team is in tunnels scrambling for their lives. Her knowledge about the Navy Seals, CIA and other agencies is evident in the details she provides.

Leif is everything you expect in a team leader. He is determined, powerful and never gives up. I loved that he was in charge and knew this was going to be an adventure with danger, intrigue and casualties. The action is non stop and brings chills as you read the enemy they face. I loved the military influence in the story and how technology became a factor in helping their their mission.

There is someone who doesn’t want Leif and his team to succeed and it makes for thrills and surprises throughout the story. There is a bit of romance in the book that is worth mentioning. It’s not the main focus of the story but it sure puts some things into perspective at times. I know the team has a very important task , but there is always time for a little romance to lighten up the intensity a bit.

This by far is the author’s best book with characters that are realistic and a thriller that takes us across the world into the far reaches of enemy territory. There is a continuous surge of danger and oh my the team does make me feel very protective in this crazy world we live in. I would definitely want Leif and his team to be front and center should any danger arise around us. I know they are just characters, but to me the author has made them so genuine and real, you can almost see them in the desert fighting. This is one story that has all the elements for a best seller. I am already anxiously awaiting the next book in this series.

There is a Storm Rising in the Middle East that may indicate the End Times have arrived.

Iskra, aka Viorica, is a trained assassin tasked with retrieving an ancient text called the Book of Wars in Israel. So is ex-SEAL Leif and his team provided by the US government. Both need to work together to seize it from Rutger Hermanns, a ruthless German businessman and part-time archaeologist, who has snatched it from Israeli scientists.

The Book of Wars has some lethal secrets best kept away from foreign powers. The book is mentioned in the Bible as being prophetic by sharing information about future wars.

Storm Rising is a typical military thriller. It has an American team of misfits from various nations and religions. There is the usual romance, mysterious back stories, and good-natured joshing of fellow team members. The initial opposition is by a lone assassin, who must get the book to save her life after one too many screw-ups in the past. However, it soon becomes apparent that Leif may have to team with Iskra to prevent the German villain from using the book for his nefarious plan.

Storm Rising is about the fight between Christians and Muslims leading into Armageddon. Muslims are clearly the enemy. Jews aren’t even mentioned. Therefore, this book is recommended only for secular and Christian readers.

The plot was good but there is not much originality here. The characters are the best part. You definitely want the heroes to win. Plus the combat scenes were intense and set the reader right in the middle of the fight. Unfortunately, there are an overwhelming number of characters plus a cliffhanger ending, which I detest. It still earns 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 stars. It will be even higher if you are a fan of military or action thrillers.

Thanks to Bethany House and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

Five stars! "Totally wicked" describes it. Leif Metcalfe is assigned his own team to hunt down The Book of the Wars that is mentioned in the Bible. It supposedly tells of the wars past, present and wars to come. His team is in a race against time to retrieve it before it falls into the wrong hands and starts Armageddon. Lots of action and humor and a little bit of romance. Ronie Kendig has a hit series on her hands. I wish it was a movie!

This is a new favorite novel from one of my favorite authors!

I love, loved Ms. Kendig's Tox Files series, and this new one is just as good (or even better!).
It was great having some familiar faces show up in this story. Just like getting reacquainted with old friends.

I loved the main characters. Leif Metcalfe is quite the hero! And I quickly loved Iskra/Viorica and all her deep hurts because of all the traumatic things she's been forced to face in her life.

I enjoyed seeing how they went from barely tolerating each other to becoming friends to...well, I don't want to give the story away.... ;)

This mission is incredible. They are looking for a long-lost treasure, The Book of Wars mentioned in the Bible, in the book of Numbers.

I loved the danger. The intrigue. The racing-around-the-world-to-find-the-treasure aspect of this story.
Ronie Kendig is a master at spinning a story of this nature, and this is some of her finest writing yet!!

4.5 STARS!!!

Every time I pick up a Kendig book, my life goes on hold. Seriously. STORM RISING is pretty much non-stop action with catchy dialogue, which I love!!! My fixation with military TV shows (especially SEAL TEAM) helped me visualize this elite group of operatives and the mission they are involved in.

I will say that at first, I wasn’t a fan of Iskra as Leif’s nemesis at all. I felt kind of protective of him and didn’t want him paired with someone unworthy. I feel the same way about Clay and Stella on Seal Team ;-) BUT…I came to understand why the author chose Iskra; her particular strengths and vulnerabilities pair well with Leif, creating some intense moments as well as tender ones.

I feel like if I say I can’t wait for book two I’ll be wishing away a year of my life but, Y’all, I can’t wait for book two to come out!!! Needless to say, I liked the story. A lot. It’s filled with bold and valorous characters as well as the ones you’re going to be rooting for this team of amazing operators to take down.

This book has it all. Tight pacing, an ensemble cast, and a love story in the making. Ronie Kendig is a master at the military thriller that also has heart. This book will thrill her previous readers and be a fantastic introduction to new to her readers.

Kendig blows my mind! Where do I even start? Just when I think I couldn’t enjoy her books more than I already do, she proves me wrong yet again. Storm Rising took my breath away. There were several times I couldn’t believe what I was reading and had no idea what could happen next. This book is a must read for anyone who likes being taken by surprise. Kendig is unlike any author I’ve read, and I can’t wait to see what she does next. If you’ve read any of her stories, you know exactly what I mean. Sometimes I have an issue with being able to predict exactly how a story is going to go. I love that it has never happened with any of the books I’ve read by Ronie Kendig.

I all too easily fell in love with Leif Metcalf. He is so unique in so many ways and I enjoyed every moment getting to know him even more. Iskra Todorova was so different than any heroine I could imagine, and I loved her for it. She was completely awesome, and yet not without heartbreaking issues of her own. Knowing Kendig, this is just the tip of the iceberg, and I can’t wait to dive in even deeper. I love how history is flawlessly mixed in with the present time. There is just the right amount of suspense to keep you awake until way past bed time. This book would be a perfect companion to take with you on a trip to the beach, park, or even just your living room couch. Don’t get mad at me if you find it impossible to focus on anything else though… who needs food when there’s reading to get done? I received a complimentary copy of this book and was in no way forced to post a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

When I pick up a Ronie Kendig book, I know I’m going to be in for a wild, action-packed, fantastic ride, and Storm Rising was no exception! With fascinating, multi-layered, engaging characters and settings in diverse areas of the globe, this book drew me in with its nonstop action, precarious situations, and thrilling escapades. One of Kendig’s strengths is creating deep, complex, and well-developed characters, and Leif Metcalfe and Iskra Todorova are examples of her brilliant characterization. They are engaging and competent, intense and sometimes vulnerable, and I couldn’t help hoping for a happy ending for them.

It was a joy to see some familiar characters pop up from previous Ronie Kendig books. Their various personalities and strengths added to my enjoyment of the tale, and I loved the witty banter I can always expect between them. The action in this book is intense, and I often wondered how the author was going to get the team out of their predicament, but she always managed to do it in creative, imaginative ways.

If you enjoy mind-blowing action and suspense with lots of intrigue and spots of romance thrown in, this is the book for you. I’m excited to see what she has in store for the other books in this series.

If you are looking for a read that is high adrenaline, fueled by lots of action, and tons of secrets- then look no further than Storm Rising, which is the first of what garners to be a great action packed series.
Taken from a couple of verses from the Old Testament, there are several world powers that are looking for The Book of the Wars. I absolutely love it when authors pull out these verses from the Bible and can make a story around them. I never noticed this book before, not to say I haven’t read the verses before, but there are quite a few books mentioned in the Bible which I find fascinating.
Using the wonder of imagination, we have a very tight story with a team of secret soldiers looking for this book who come up against the best of the best and worst of the worst enemies. And there is some real baddies in here that think nothing of mass murder or anything else to get their way.
Our hero Leif Metcalfe is the team leader. He is a soldier who has been tasked with finding this book. He is also dealing with some secrets from his past that he can’t even remember. So as we go along with him, sometimes things will set him off and we as a reader are left holding our breath wondering just how dangerous and how far Leif will go.
Iskra, or her nickname Viorica, has not had a very nice life. The author does not shy away with how difficult life has been for this dangerous spy. Iskra is good at what she does and she has ulterior motives for wanting that book as well. When she and Leif meet there is definitely an undercurrent of something more between them than just enemies.
I enjoyed Leif’s team as well. We get to know them and a bit of their personal lives as well. What I really liked was how they all had each other’s backs. Which is very important as who can you really trust in this world where some want to control all- as in global control.
That ending-sublime. Looking forward to Kings Falling.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Ronie Kendig has an amazing ability to make you feel the gamut of emotions whenever you read one of her stories! You know, at a minimum, you’re in for an absolutely creative, intense, action packed, unputdownable read! You will also get to meet characters that have incredible camaraderie, with absolutely perfect banter, that will have you laughing out loud!

I loved so many characters in this story, but I’ll just talk about my favorites or else this review will be way too long! Leif and Iskra - I love the complexity and the off the charts chemistry of their relationship! I can’t wait to read more about them, especially Leif and what happened to him in the past! Mercy, who I think is my all time favorite female character ever, makes me laugh pretty much every time she opens her mouth- except for that one statement she makes that basically wrecked me - again! (Can’t say it here- spoilers!) And then there is Lawe and Devine, another pair with some great chemistry! They really need a story of their own. I want to know all of their history together!! And, finally, Baddar, again, I think he needs a book of his own! What an intriguing character! I really want to know more about him and his past! And, I think he may match up beautifully with Mercy. And now, I kind of feel disloyal.

Another thing I loved about this story is the creativeness of the story line. Ronie Kendig takes cloud seeding, which is the process of combining different types of chemical agents with existing clouds to increase the chance of rainfall or snow- and the unknown Book of the Wars - briefly mentioned in Numbers 21- and turns them into an amazingly creative story- one you won’t soon forget and one that will make you be begging for book 2, Kings Falling, which comes out in April of 2020!

Ronie is a master at her craft. If you haven’t read one of her stories, you should! They are not to be missed!! I LOVED everything about this story! It is my favorite read of 2019 so far, and I’m sure it’ll be in my top 1 or 2 reads of the year. And the only reason I’m saying it might not be number 1 is because Ronie Kendig has another book coming out in December, Brand of Light!!! This story is in a class by itself!

I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher. All opinions in this review are my own.

Wow! Kendig is back with another explosive series! I can't stop reading this author's works. Each one is packed with action, amazing themes, fabulous characters and more. What's not to like?

Having already met Lief Metcalfe in Thirst of Steel, the third book in The Tox Files series, I was, of course, excited to see this character featured in the newest series. Lief is such a complex character, I think we might need more than three books to unravel him! Iskra Torodov plays opposite Lief, and while she is slightly more predictable, she is just as complex. We meet a lot of new characters in Storm Rising, but there is also the reappearance of characters from previous series, such as Canyon Metcalfe, Barclay Purcell, and Mercy Maddox.

From page one, the story captures your attention, and you are on a wild adrenaline ride until the end. With too many plot twists to count, I was left on the edge of my seat. Storm Rising explores some very intriguing themes, and while there were some sci-fi aspects that I wasn't a huge fan of, I still found the ideas intriguing.

Overall, if you are looking for a military thriller to take you on a wild ride with a tad of romance thrown in, definitely check out Storm Rising!

Storm Rising by Ronie Kendig 3/5 ⭐️

Thank you to Bethany House for the free review copy. All opinions are my own.

This book was totally out of my reading comfort zone. I have never read war fiction, so when I was offered the chance to review this book, I decided to take it and push myself to read outside of my normal genres.

I think that Kendig is an amazing writer. She was able to create this whole fictional world that I found to be believable. I was amazed with what she came up with and found myself engrossed in the lives of all of the characters in the book.

Where I struggled, though, was with keeping all of the characters and their subplots straight. Even at the end of the book, I was unsure about who some of the people on the team were and what their connection was that had them get on the team. I think that this is all on me though as a reader, and of no fault of Kendig. I had a lot to process while reading this book because of the newness of this genre.

When Ronie Kendig wrote the last installment in her Tox Files series, I was so sad to see the end. I grew to love those characters and looked forward to each new adventure. So, when I found that she has begun a new spin-off series, The Book of the Wars, starring Leif “Runt” Metcalfe from the Tox Files, I was so excited!
And the first book, Storm Rising, definitely did not disappoint. Packed with just as much tension, adventure, and excitement as the Tox Files books, and filled with both new and familiar characters, Storm Rising, snagged my attention right away and did not let go until the final page. And actually, I seriously wished the book was longer, because I wasn’t ready for the action to end.
I would definitely recommend you read the Tox Files before jumping into The Book of the Wars series, mainly because they are fantastic books, but also because they will help you be more familiar with some of the characters and situations. However, if you want to jump right in, I am sure that you will enjoy this non-stop ride with Runt and his new team of military and communications specialists.
Storm Rising is one I’d highly recommend!
Many thanks to Bethany House Publishers and NetGalley for the digital ARC of this novel for review purposes. I was not required to give a positive review. All opinions are my very own!

Genre : Christian Fiction/suspense/Action/Romance
My rating: 4.5 stars!
Language: Clean (however, there is the use of "bull". Personally, I do not find it a swear word, but I know some do)
Age Range: 16+
Content: There is talk of sexual activities and insinuations (mild-medium). Which is why I would say maybe 16 years on up. There is some heavy stuff there. There is some talk of rape and abuse, which for some who are sensitive to those things, should be aware of.
Favorite Character: Leaf!! Oh yeah, the main character all the way. I also like Mercy, because she is a Marvel Nerd, and I'm a Marvel Nerd, so I connected well to her :).

Summary:
I love it! This was a little different from the Tox Files (which I adore!), but this is still a fascinating book. Great start to a new series and I'm excited to read the next one which comes out in 2020!

While this book was fast paced and interesting, I have to admit to feeling a little lost when Leif puts together his team, since I haven't read many of Ronie's other books. Not knowing the history of his team (now Leif) puts the reader at a severe disadvantage. This book is also the first in the series, so be prepared that the story isn't concluded, but is set up for the next one. That said, I thought that the premise was interesting and I enjoyed the pace of the action. Leif has a hidden past, missing 6 months that even he can't remember, which may be tied to the bigger picture. Iskra is a complex character who wants nothing more than to be free from the evil that has controlled her life. I look forward to reading the rest of the series!
I received this book from Bethany House. This is my honest review and is in no way influenced by receiving a complimentary copy.

This book has everything you need: mystery, action, a hint of the fantastic, and romance all rolled up in a suspense that will keep you up late into the night. I love when I can relate with the main characters and this book makes them feel like friends. Ronie Kendig uses the good and the flawed aspects of the characters personalities to make the book that much more believable and enjoyable. Loved the character development, both individually and inter-relational. The action is a heart pounding ride through the entire book, leaving you wanting more. I can't wait for the next book, I need more of the story! I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher. All opinions in this review are my own.

I have so many thoughts for this book! And then my mind is blank trying to figure out what to say about it. I’ve been a fan of Ronie Kendig’s books for years - she actually is the first to really get me hooked on military novels - and was so stoked for this book! I’ve yet to be disappointed by any of her books and this one is certainly not the exception. I was on the proverbial edge of my seat the entire story and only put it down under duress (otherwise known as work) or sleep deprivation.
As always, Ms. Kendig kept the suspense and action going from beginning to end. I often felt as though I was there with the team, racing against the “bad guys” and the clock. I loved getting to know this newly formed team of characters, though some of them are familiar from previous stories. I so enjoyed the banter and general aggravation they use to nudge one another along, as well as Leif’s jokes! I tend to try not to play favorites with a group of characters like this one, but there are definitely had a couple that I couldn’t resist. Like the one with a thing for superhero references . . . . One of my favorite things about all of Kendig’s books is how she’s able to switch the story around from several different perspectives without my getting lost or the story losing momentum. I find it allows me to get to know more of the team than just the two or three characters that tend to have the leading roles in the story.
I also loved the historical aspects of the book and am now immensely curious about the Book of Wars, because I’m nerdy like that. I appreciate that this story isn’t just one military op after another, but rather there’s a couple different mysteries going on as well, which I’m hoping will continue to be pursued in the next book. Speaking of, the cliffhanger here definitely has me incredibly impatient for “Kings Falling”! Which means I’ll probably just be rereading all of Ms. Kendig’s books until March 2020, when it’s slated to hit stores.
Overall, I would highly recommend this book if you enjoy edge of your seat suspense with some Tomb-Raider-meets-Indiana-Jones-and-probably-some-other-analogy-that-better-suits antiquity action.

*My thanks to the author and publisher for my copy of this book! I was not required to write a review, positive or otherwise, and have not been compensated for it in any way. All opinions expressed are my own.

I am reviewing a copy Storm Rising through Bethany House Publishers and Netgalley:

The Book of the wars was mentioned in the pages of the Septuagit But was lost to history. But the Book of the Wars has resurfaced its pages hold secrets and dangers never before seen on eart.

Leif Metcalfe is a former Navy Seal who has been given the task to capture the ancient text. Leif has finally been given command of his own team. Their best efforts are thwarted when a notorious Bulgarian Operative Known as Viorica snatches the volume right out from under them.

Iskra Todorova aka “Viorica” is determined to use the book to secure the thing that matters most--freedom. A series of strange storms foretold in the book threaten crops and lives worldwide leaving Iskra having form an uneasy alliance to thwart impending disaster. However, the truth hidden in two-
thousand-year-old text could unleash the storm causing their destruction.

If you are looking for a powerful action packed novel I’d highly recommend Storm Rising!

Five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

Claimed to contain invaluable secrets, the Book of Wars vanished to history, but intel indicates it has reemerged and some will stop at nothing to recover the ancient text. With a past that nearly cost him his career, not to mention his life, former Navy SEAL, Leif Metcalfe, finally leads his own team. Their first mission — retrieve the coveted book before it falls into the wrong hands. Determined to prove he isn’t a washed-out asset, Leif embraces the task only to have it fail when a Bulgarian operative, “Viorica,” steals the book before his very eyes.

Iskra “Viorica” Todorova pursues one goal — freedom — and the Book of Wars just might be the way to achieve it. When storms break out across the globe, threatening thousands of lives, Iskra discovers that the centuries-old book sits at the center of a greater plot. An unexpected twist of events forces Iskra to form a tentative alliance with Leif, but old habits die hard and trust has never come easy.

The first installment in Ronie Kendig’s new series lands with a resounding boom. Jason Bourne meets Splinter Cell meets my second favorite NCIS episode (Corporal Punishment) in Storm Rising, making it an instant hit in my book.

Delivering some of her strongest writing yet, Kendig crafted settings that rose as vividly as the storm-induced waves. The crackling electricity, the rain-soaked earth, and the jagged cliffs toyed so deeply with my senses that I could have stood in the middle of them and the effect would have been the same.

The author infuses the characters with the perfect balance of brokenness and strength, ensuring that readers root for them even as they make wrong choices and at times appear the villain. Iskra’s past is not for the faint of heart.

Without hesitation, I strongly recommend Storm Rising to military suspense fans. The Book of Wars is well on its way to surpassing The Tox Files for me. (Though Ram will forever hold my heart!) While book one comes to a satisfying close, readers should be aware that this series contains an overarching thread and questions that will be answered in future installments.

I’ve compared Ronie Kendig’s style and stories to fav movies (like Act of Valor and the A-Team). Storm Rising gets a little more Bourne and Indiana Jones-esque, with some other globe-trotting spy stuff thrown in! Fans of paramilitary thrillers and suspense will love this introduction to a series and in the modern world where history influences current events more than the characters anticipate.

For Leif’s whole team, the stakes are high and the adrenaline-laced action sequences are plenty. Just when you think Leif and the team are getting a break, a twist or adversary comes out of nowhere to change the game. A light humor and typical snarky banter are still present, just as I hoped. Along with a tiny start of a romantic relationship in the pauses of the gunfire and chase scenes. 🙂

Fans of Kendig’s recent “Tox Files” series will delight over familiar faces. We readers get a “look behind the curtain” to just what drives Leif, and it’s eye-opening. His dichotomous strength and fallibility, along with his skillset, combine to make him one heroic and enigmatic character.

And Iskra (the operative)! What a mystery, still, after “the end”. I really had fun reading the unfolding of her character, what motivates her and the secrets she was keeping. This thrill ride is just the start, I think, of the epic and mind-bending mission in store for this gang!

Thank you to the publisher for the review copy. This is my honest review.

This is the first book of Ronie Kendig's that I have read. I felt a little lost at first like I was missing parts of the story. In reading other reviews they state that this book has characters from other series. That may have helped during the first part of the story but it did not stop me from getting engaged and following along well later.

This book had many elements that I enjoy. I enjoy a good action/adventure. This book had that and more. I loved the biblical day references and the fictional "Book of Wars". There was romance, super-soldiers, assassins, and redemption. This will not be the last book of the author's that I read.

This book pulled me in and kept me reading. I wanted to see how it would play out. Would Leif be able to pull his team through a stormy sea, tread through a minefield, or save the day and the child?

I received a complimentary copy of the book. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. This book does contain violence. It is set during a war, a war between good and evil.

Ronie Kendig has been an author I have wanted to try for a very long time. My hubby has enjoyed several books by her as well as a lot of my reader friends. So I was extremely excited to finally read one of her books! This book started off with a bang and didn't let up throughout. It is a thrill ride from start to finish! Ronie's writing style was good and I enjoyed the banter and lighter moments in the book. The book was a little heavy for my tastes and the body count got to me. That being said, I will continue in this series because I do want to know what happens next, and I intend to check out some of her earlier books-especially the A Breed Apart series which looks awesome!

I received this book from the publisher and was not required to post a positive review. All thoughts are my own.

Storm Rising is my first book by Kendig and what a book it is. From the first page it is packed with breath taking action. I could never do justice to this thrilling military novel with my review. It is so filled with suspense and the characters are so intense……Looking for an ancient book that no one is sure exists, but it must for so many are willing to risk their lives to obtain it. What is in this ancient book that so many are willing to kill for it? Rumored to be A Book Of Wars from the same era as the Old Testament book of Numbers. There is so much in this book, suspense, unnatural storms, lots of high tech, loyalty among team members, espionage, brutality and of course romance……….I received a copy of this book from the publisher and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion

Simply excellent! I have been a Kendig fan for a long time and have read most of her books, but this one is up there as a favorite for sure!

I enjoyed her last series immensely and was curious what direction she would take with this new series. I am so glad it is similar to the Tox Files and yet very different too. I love Leif and who he is as a character! Certain things about him (without spoilers) make me like him even more! But I think he is a great next leading man! Despite the fact we miss Tox, Leif is just right for this series!

I also really liked the scope and creativity of the plot, locations, and team! There were a few times when the team (which encompasses many characters) got a little muddy for me, but you can see the necessity for each member and I can’t wait to see what they get up to next!!!

If you enjoy suspense with a military vibe to it - and don’t forget the romance- you’re gong to love this new series! There is some violence, but it fits within the story and is not described with gory detail. The writing is excellent (as always) and the plot will keep you turning pages late into the night!

Um...WOW!!

Look out world, because Leif Metcalfe and a BRAND NEW Ronie Kendig team of ultra-awesome heroes just hit the scene!

When you read something as spell-binding and utterly fascinating as the Tox Files, you have to wonder if the “sequel series” will live up to its predecessor...

And while I can’t help but stick with Tox as my fave (because TOX!!), Storm Rising is a magnificent powerhouse of a book that totally drew me in and became a MUST-HAVE for 2019...

Let me tell you why...

The CHARACTERS, y’all!

After meeting Leif in the Tox Files, I could NOT wait to read more about this fascinating character! And while Leif maintains some of his characteristic snarky humor (can I say that I laughed waaay to hard at some of those jokes!? 😂), I appreciated a more “mature” Leif navigating a wild world and coming into his own as the leader of a new team of world-savers!

Also, the interactions between him and Iskra “Viorica” were wild and enthralling—both characters are powerhouses and breathtaking to follow!

Iskra was a unique character—really! In a world with so many cookie-cutter MC’s, I feel like her background, skills, and mindset were something new and powerful in this story. Iskra is a broken individual with some serious trust issues and a world of anguish and struggle to overcome, but maybe freedom for her isn’t completely impossible after all...

The themes, characters, scenes, and mystery in this incredible story all combine to create a thrilling ride—one that sticks with you and demands attention! One that demands you read the next book immediately!! Because there is still so much to discover in this new world that Leif, Iskra, and the team find themselves wading into.

And while I could continue to tell you all the incredible parts of this mega-enthralling story, I will stop here with one simple note of advice...

READ STORM RISING!!

...you’re welcome! 😉

Notes:
There are definitely some more mature, real-life scenarios mentioned in this book, including assault, rape, etc...
I also found that in this book the author tended to give the characters some more “realistic characteristics.” I.E. there are multiple almost-curses and some slightly more crude speech than most CF
The characters are warriors and assasins, so violence is also a key part throughout the story.
Also, as I noted another reviewer mentioned, please do remember that this is a fictional work, and keep that in mind as the author uses creative license with historical and Biblical artifacts throughout both the Tox Files, and into this series.

Ronie Kendig is back and better than ever with her first book in her newest series. Storm Rising is amazing. It is, quite literally, a storm rising and the readers need to hang on for the turbulence it’s going to cause.

Blended with the perfect amount of thrilling suspense, Leif Metcalfe gets his story, as he has to lead his team on a wild roller coaster ride of finding a piece of history….all before it falls into the wrong hands for good. Along the way, Leif learns to lean on people and his faith is tested. Add to the story, a touch of romance for Leif and Iskra (let me tell you, she is my favorite character and I absolutely loved her interactions with Leif!).

This book is filled with so much action, so much love, so much hope and intrigue. It is one for my keeper shelf for sure. If you want a wonderfully written novel filled with characters that will make you feel all the emotions you could possibly feel, then grab this perfectly chiseled 4 star worthy novel from the master of Military Romantic Suspense novels.

Kendig has done it again! As the first book in her new series “The Book of Wars”, Storm Rising seta the pace for a new adventure featuring some beloved characters. All I can say is hang on because it is going to be a wild ride.

As usual the characters in Storm Rising are real and gritty. They work hard, play hard and love hard. Their emotions come across as believable , lending credibility and authenticity to them and the storyline.

I respect and appreciate how Ms. Kendig is not afraid to add in topics that are usually avoided or skimmed over in other Christian books.

Leif and Iskra are some of my favorite characters (right up their with Tox and Haven) and I can not wait to see where this series takes them. However my favorite character of this book and who I really felt for was Mercy. I am loving her character and also can wait to see where she goes and how she grows as a character in the future.

I can hardly wait for book two and the continuation of the story! So many questions I still need answers too and things that need resolution!

I was given a copy of this book by the publisher. All opinions in this review are my own.

If you are looking for a fast paced read full of interesting characters then this is one you will want in your "To Be Read" pile. This new Series is about a team trying to locate The Book of Wars. Yes, I did have to look it up in the Bible! In Numbers 21:14 it talks about a book of war of the Lord.

I had a hard time putting this book down! It's one of those books that you just can't stop thinking about when you aren't reading it because it is that interesting and good! Enjoy!

This is the first book in a new series by Ronie Kendig and boy was it a page turner. I'm not usually one to read military thrillers, but Ronie Kendig is a master at writing this genre in a way that keeps me captivated until the very end. There is a large cast of diverse character's, that were a tad difficult to keep straight at first, but all unique and interesting. This is an adrenaline laced, suspense filled, intense thriller. A MUST READ... Honestly. There is so much that I loved about this book and I am eagerly waiting for the next in this series to come out.

How is this the first book I've read by Ronie Kendig?!?! I have a couple of her books on my kindle and I've read a ton of good reviews for her books but somehow I just haven't connected and read one myself. I'm so glad I have now rectified that mistake! And now that I've been introduced to the world of Ronie Kendig, I'm never going back. How happy that I have so many books to look forward to. 😃

This book! Fast paced, action packed, full on, from beginning to end. Sometimes a girl just needs to sit on the edge of her seat for a whole book, you know? I really loved the alternating points of view so I really got to know the inner workings of both main characters. It helped me connect and feel the passion behind their decisions- for better or for worse.

I have to say that for the first third of the book I had a hard time with all the characters introduced. It was hard to keep them straight and remember who was who. There were SO many characters! Eventually I caught on though and they became more familiar to me. It's so much easier to fall into a book when you don't have to constantly think about who is who.

There is so much going on in this book plot wise. Yes, there is this overarching story about the "book" and the storms, but there are also smaller mysteries going on with different characters. It definitely kept my mind spinning and thinking! This is the beginning of a series and this book did not have much resolution. A little tiny bit. Now I am left waiting and wondering until the next book comes out. It kind of makes me glad that I can go back to past books and read through them all without waiting. The perk of coming in late to the game, I guess. Waiting is so hard.

Content: violence, death, peril, abuse, mention of repeat rapes with no details. Kissing.

The past and future are entirely intertwined....

I've never read a Ronie Kendig book before. There, I said it. Don't shoot me. I'm not exactly sure why I hadn't read one. I mean, I've heard a lot of good stuff about them. But, for some reason I just didn't. Until now. I have no clue why Storm Rising was the one to catch my attention, but, it did.

I went into Storm Rising not knowing what to expect. I mean, I did know that Ronie Kendig did several series about elite military types but that was it. What a got was an international thriller with apocalyptic repercussions that was slightly reminiscent of a Ted Dekker book.

While I can't say that I'm a diehard fan I can say that I will be looking forward to reading the next installment in The Book Of The Wars series. I found the idea behind the story, a book with the outcomes of past and future wars, to be quite fascinating. And, I'm curious where the search for said book will take our band of heroes....will Leif and Iskra finally find what they are each searching for...?

Wow. I knew I wanted to read Leif's story, but Kendig managed to put it on a whole other level. In the start of an exhilarating new series, my attention was captured from the start and never let up throughout the whole book. Not even for a second. Jam packed with action, readers will not be able to tear themselves away from the story. It's intense, thrilling, scary, and yes even swoony. Leif is my favorite character from Kendig, ever. There's just something about him, even with his missing memories, that make him so attractive. **sigh**

Let's talk about Iskra for a moment. What a cool character. Okay yes, her circumstances are horrendous. In fact, I cannot even imagine having to go through all the stuff she has been through in her life. But even in that she was able to fight. She held her head high and kept going. And y'all, she can pack quite a punch! She doesn't even allow you to feel pity for her - she just wants you on her side. Throughout the book you see little moments of vulnerability, and those are the times I liked best. For both her and Leif.

Ronie Kendig has been on my radar for quite awhile now, and rightly so. How she is able to get so much energy inside of her books just boggles my mind. There are some things in this book that hint to what's ahead for this series and I can honestly say that I cannot wait to see what's next. I know it's going to be more danger, more action, and more swoony moments that are sure to bring a smile to this reader's face!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

It starts with suspense, but then the multiple characters confused me, especially because some had more than one name or nickname. Once I got them all straight, I enjoyed it more. There's no doubt this is one of the most suspenseful plots I've read all year with a lot of advanced technology and pursuits that had me squirming to the end. If I hadn't the need to be flipping back pages to check out names, I'd have given this five stars. But it totally is at least a 4+.

This is book one in the Book of Wars series. You will want to read this book for sure before you read any more in the series. Ronie Kendig does an amazing job at keeping you interested in her books, her books are not what I would call an easy or light read. You will need to pay attention and at times you will still be a little lost. Kendig keeps you wanting more, if you love a cliff hanger and books were one must be read first then the next one to get the full story then you will love her books. They are full of suspense, action, mystery, loyalty, friendships, some romance, military and so much more. I look forward to book two. I loved the camaraderie between the team, the humor (superheroes) and mystery.

I totally enjoyed this intense, complex suspense. My rating 4.5.

Navy SEAL Leif is trying to recoup from team losses and memory losses when he is put in charge of a new team, full of old friends. Each team member brings the best of covert skills to the mission which is to locate and retrieve the mysterious Book of Wars. The team isn’t the only one after the book as at least two other players are a step ahead.

Just as Leif closes in on the book it is snatched from his hands by a notorious female operative, known as Viorica. Viorica, who is Iskra, has been directed by her ‘master/handler’ to bring the book to him. She is determined to get the book to trade for her freedom and something more.

Leif knows he shouldn’t trust this ruthless woman, but he sees something deep in her eyes that draws out a protective streak. Iskra doesn’t trust anyone but herself. But as Leif and Iskra face off several times, she begins to wonder if she can trust him and his team to win her freedom. Neither is quite sure of their footing when they are forced together by outside circumstances.

There are strange storms interfering in the team’s actions and Iskra can shed some light on that. She also has more information about the book which she is reluctant to share. It is clear they have some joint enemies to face if they want to protect many from a devious attempt to control nations.

I really enjoy the complex characters and situations that Kendig creates. The characters are deep, intense and flawed. The other team members have relationship dynamics going on which are probably part of future stories. The situations are fast-paced and tense. I like that the intense action doesn't require any bad language. The plot has a Christian foundation involved with the Book of Wars and is gently reflected in comments of faith from some of the characters. The plot may include fictional missions, but it reveals interesting covert tools that make me wonder what tools are real and in use by governments and individuals (very wealthy individuals).

My only (repeated) complaint with Ms. Kendig’s work is she tends to use multiple names for her characters: first name, last name, and a nickname or code name. I haven’t figured out the pattern for use if there is one. Sometimes it causes me to pause to make sure I have the right person in the right situation. Other than that, I enjoy the suspense ride even when the story finishes at a point that leaves issues open for the next book. I recommend this to readers who like intense romantic suspense.

Good start to a series. Took me a while to get into it just cause it seemed slow to start (not action wise). There were a lot of characters thrown at you at the very beginning and it was hard to keep them all straight or feel connected with them. Once I was halfway through tho, I was hooked. Can’t wait to read the next one in the series

This was a very interesting read. Fast paced, full of adventure, mystery, suspense…

I haven’t read from Ronie Kendig before and she had me on the edge of my seat!

Iskra’s character is complex. I loved how this character was developed, and her motivation for finding the Book of Wars was more than it seemed.

You’ll feel frustrated with Iskra, feel compassion for Iskra, you’ll probably want Leif to run from Iskra… and then you’ll want Leif to save Iskra. Before or after Iskra fights Leif or is it before/after she saves him? I’m still not sure what I think, so I guess I’ll have to see where book two takes them. I still don’t trust Iskra, no doubt Leif doesn’t either.

I think what I loved the most about Ronie’s writing in this book was her descriptions. I could really see the scenes, feel the action & tension. Ronie really has a way of painting a picture with her words. For this reason alone I would read more of her books.

This story will leave you wondering what book 2 holds. I give Storm Rising a 4.5. Be sure to pick up this book for yourself or your action loving book reading loved one!

Wow. Ronie Kendig is an amazing author *claps*.
I'm just so shocked at the amount of skill she has to weave such a beautiful story of adventure, love, and faith.
So, so good.
Ronie hooks you from the very first page and doesn't let you go. You'll be reading this in one sitting (hehe I know I did)
The book does touch on some sensitive subjects, yet Ronie does an amazing job portraying them without giving much detail.
The characters were also so good! They had a great growth throughout the book, and the ending was satisfying but at the same time left you with a major book hangover 😂😭❤️.
Plot-wise, perfect. Perfect, perfect, perfect.
This is my first Navy book, and I must say, I loved it so much.
Will, I read the next in the series? Oh yes. 100%. Storm Rising really exceeded my expectations.

Excellent start to a new series. Intense and action packed, Storm Rising was an exciting, heart-pounding, non-stop thrill ride that never slowed down. It's Kendig at her finest. The action starts right at the beginning and doesn't let up. Another great book by Ronie Kendig

Ronie Kendig's books are billed as "Rapid Fire Fiction," and Storm Rising fits that bill to a tee!

The ancient text, The Book of the Wars, has been a rumor for centuries, so when former Navy SEAL Leif "Runt" Metcalfe is tasked with retrieving it, he thinks he's chasing a fable. When he arrives at the location he's given, he discovers that someone else has narrowly beat him to it. Finding out that the other operative is none other than Viorika, a Bulgarian with seemingly no conscience, Runt sets his sights on capturing her.

Iskra "Viorika" Teodorova is essentially a slave. Her owner punishes disobedience by raping and torturing her. She sees her latest mission as a way to finally gain her freedom, but her captor maintains his control by holding a child captive unless she complies. Can the American help her, or is her only way out somewhere else? Can she save herself, and Basara?

I listened to this one through audio books, and I could almost see it happening. Scary, scary stuff here, but completely believable. The first half of this book is one escape-by-the-skin-of-their-teeth after another. Even what seems to be safety isn't safe. Honestly, I had to listen in short bursts because it was that intense!

As always, Ronie Kendig delivers a high energy, explosive action story that will keep readers flying through the pages. Her military knowledge is amazing to me, and I definitely recommend (pretty much everything she writes!)
