This was a good vampire book, but I wasn't blown away by it. I really didn't connect with either of the main characters, so it made it hard for me to get into the story.
Another good story by D.B. Reynolds. Lachland is a solid addition to the series and the characters are so interesting.
So the last book in the series, Quinn, was a total disappointment for me. I didn't feel the love in that book. I was worried when I got Lachlan that it would be like Quinn, but it wasn't. Lachlan was so much better. This right here is why I love D.B. Reynolds and her writing. I felt the love! I felt the action, and I really felt the yummy Scottish Lord. I really like were the series is going. Book 13 and Vampires in America is still going strong.
Broody, protective, powerful, and sexy af Lachlan was everything I want in a hero. Throw in that Scottish brogue, and I was in heaven. Julia at first came off cold, and distant like a total ice queen. As the story went she opened up. Julia turned out to be sweet, smart and brave. I loved Lachlan and Julia together. They were smoking hot together, but there were some really sweet moments too. I did wish I could have gotten a better feel for Lachlan's cousins. The plot of the book was really good. I loved the how Julia got her payback on Erskine. I also really loved Raphael and Cyn's part in the book. Overall a great read and a great addition to the series I can't wait to see who is next!
The D. B. Reynolds recipe continues to be a winner. Hot alpha male vampire and confident kick ass female get together for a common goal. Sparks fly and asses get kicked. Add a little Cyn and Raphael and you get a winner book. Really enjoyed it and look forward to more.
A story with really strong characters who you connect with from the very first page. Lachlan McRae awoke on his first night as a vampire to hear all his clan being killed by Erskine Ross who would become King of Scotland. It would take many years for Lachlan to build up his power to have his revenge on Erskine. Into his story steps Julia who Erskine wants dead at any cost. This is a fast paced gripping story that keeps the excitement going till the last page.
I was given an ARC of this book by Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Holy Hot Scottish Vampires!
I absolutely loved the story! Lachlan and Julia had amazing and explosive chemistry. The storyline was jam-packed with action and Scottish vampires. I enjoyed the political climate as well as the epilogue of subterfuge and intrigue. And did I mention Scottish vampires? The eroticism was off-the-charts explosive! There is so much emotion and so many feels that I didn’t want it to end! I’m excited to find out which Vampire Lord will step into the spotlight next!
Lachlan is the most recent addition in the Vampires in America series. We have had a blast seeing the vampires become united in the United States and Canada. Now we have seen a story set in Ireland and so what is up NEXT??? Well, one of my favorite countries in the world---SCOTLAND!! When I saw an opportunity to read and review this book, I just had to grab it up. I have soaked up this series like a sponge and I just can't get enough of this series. I didn't even read the blurb before picking up this book, that is how much I knew that I would like this book and YEP I had such a fun time with this latest addition and really love seeing the growth in this series so far.Our story begins with our hero, Lachlan Macrae, where we see him in the beginning when he was born a vampire and he lost most of the members of his clan by a vampire who rose to power and the vampire that now controls all of Scotland's vampires. Lachlan knew that he wasn't powerful enough to defeat him at the time, but Lachlan has spent years gathering strength to take down his nemesis. But then he runs into a woman who wants revenge just as much as he does. Julia Harper may have been born with wealth and money, but she has devoted herself to working for the CIA. But when her closest friend is murdered, she is determined to hunt down the man responsible which leads her to a partnership with Lachlan, a powerful vampire who apparently she has the hots for....NOT a good combination. Their journey is one full of danger, mystery, and hot passion.Lachlan was a fantastic addition to this edgy series that D.B. Reynolds has written and for any vampire romance lovers out there, this is definitely a series for you to try out. I have so much love for these books...great alpha males and their women partners who are their match in every way. Not only have these books delivered in well-written stories, but through out the growth of the series we have seen the development of the world building with each book and I am loving seeing the series take on some new countries and settings. I really felt like she handled the Scottish setting so well and boy I need a LACHLAN of my own because dang he is delicious enough to eat. What I really loved the most about it is how much he respects our heroine. I love the way he supports her even when it puts her life in danger. You see that he wants to protect her so much but at the same time he knows that she has her own strengths and capabilities and her own need for vengeance. Love seeing them work together and find their own path. Their journey isn't an easy one though and boy they definitely will put you through the wringer with plenty of laughs along the way too. We also get to see a unique side to Raphael and Cyn. We only get a small scene with these two, but boy I swear they are one of my favorite couples and they really have such strength even after all this time. And Yes the way that Raphael treats Lachlan is pretty hilarious....all the manly posturing is pretty hilarious. We see great strength and growth from our couple....both individually and especially in their relationship. As they begin their journey to revenge against their enemy, their relationship takes new heights. I do want to mention that this book does bring two kick-ass characters together so you just know that sparks are going to fly in this one. This is probably more of a slow burn but NOT slow lust. There is definitely sexual tension to the highest degree, but the emotional intimacy takes quite a bit longer to build. It does make sense for their relationship since they both view it as temporary and don't let their emotions get too involves but eventually it builds into something stronger for both of them.Overall I found Lachlan is a stunning display of adventure in the Scottish land, packed with kick ass laughter, stunning thrills and guaranteed to give you all the tingles!!! SEXUAL TENSION PACKED GEM!!
This was my first journey into the world of D.B. Reynolds vampires and my only regret is that I didn't dive in earlier. I fell in love with the rugged Lachlan and the sweet but icy Julia. They were perfect together and exciting to watch them stumble and hild on to eachother through all the mystery and mayhem.
Reynolds still manages to keep her vampire series feeling fresh. Great characters, interesting storyline. If you are looking for a consistently great series about vampires and enjoy hot romance, give these a read. You can start on any but you will enjoy it more if you start from number 1.
Lachlan by D. B. Reynolds is book 13 in the Vampires in America Series. This is the story of Lachlan McRae and Julia Harper. I haven't yet read the previous books, so for me this was a standalone book. Lachlan is a Vampire over a 100 years old but he is seeking revenge for his clan that was killed by Erskine Ross, the Vampire Lord of Scotland. In the present day Julia who is a CIA analyst goes forward seeing to take down Erskine Ross who killed her good friend. Lachlan and Julia end up joining forces to take down Erskine Ross but they also end up finding each other.
The latest in D.B. Reynold’s Vampires in America series is a tale about smoldering highlander vampire Lachlan McRae who is set on avenging the murder of his loved ones.
When Lachlan awoke from his transformation to Vampire, it was to the death and destruction of everyone he held dear. He swore to his two surviving cousins they’d rebuild their clan and kill the man responsible for such a cowardly act. It took one hundred and fifty years, but the McRae clan is now strong and ready to take on Erskine Ross, the treacherous Vampire Lord of Scotland.
When Julia Harper receives an urgent call from her best friend and subsequently hears him being murdered after he reveals his findings about the illegal dealings of a vampire named Erskine Ross, she sets out to seek revenge and soon finds out she’s not the only one after him and the joining forces with Lachlan would prove beneficial for both of them, but can they trust each other with their lives and more importantly, their hearts?
Even though this is book #13 in the series, D.B. Reynolds expertly pens unique stories for each of the couples in her books. Lachlan is filled with steamy passages that crackle and scorch, highlighted by palpable suspense and danger.
Aaaaand she is BACK!!! After a disappointing outting with Quinn in Ireland...DB Reynolds is back in stride with Lachlan. The story has the same feel and flow as we expect from our ViA author. A great hero...slightly whinging but likable heroine and a great fast paced story with plenty of suspense. I totally enjoyed this read and can't wait for the next ViA/ViE outting..can't wait to see what happens in Europe and more delish Vamps! 4 stars and anxiously awaiting DBR's next story no matter which of her series;)
This was good and entertaining but I can’t give more than 3 stars as there was far too much sex, I’m not a prude by any means but there should be more of a plot to a story than sex scenes, no matter how well done.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
I really loved the first few books in this series and really liked the next few but the last couple just haven't worked for me. I like romance in my books and I like a few good sex scenes but what I'm not interested in is a whole bunch of sex without a lot of plot or plot that's been done in previous books. What was once a really great Urban Fantasy series has turned into an erotic PNR series where the sex overshadows the rest of the book.
I was so looking forward to a Scottish Vampire and he was a good character. I really enjoyed the first half of the book but once Lachlan and Julia hooked up it became sex all the time. There were also some plot holes and it was a bit of a repeat of the last book. Strong vampire plans to take out the current Vampire Lord who is a "bad lord" but needs Raphael's okay (Um, why? It's Scotland not North America). So he's a strong vampire but of course not as strong as Raphael, meets a woman who he is insanely attracted to, has a ton of sex and falls in love very quickly. There is the obligatory scene to defeat the current vampire lord.
I miss the writing style of the earlier books. Give me a great plot with a few sex scenes - I think I might just have to bow out of this series.
Julia and Lachlan both want to see Erskine dead because he's behind the murders of people close to them and they want revenge. Lachlan wants revenge because so many of his people were killed and he's waited a long time to get revenge. Julia wants revenge because a close friend was killed and she wants revenge for it. Lachlan asks Julia to reach out to her friend who is married to a powerful vampire so they can talk about Erskine. Lachlan is ready to meet with Raphael by himself when Julia is almost kidnapped and they figured Erskine was behind the attempt. So instead of doing things separately, they stay together so Lachlan can keep her safe while they look into Erskine.
They do a lot of traveling back and forth to meet with Raphael and then to his home in Scotland and the first half of the book was quite dull with all of this traveling going on. I really didn't care for Lachlan all that much because his personality is so flat. Even when he was trying to seduce Julia while they were traveling, I just found his personality missing some spark because he's so dull and boring. Julia has a bit of a personality but we don't really see it until towards the end of the book when things finally start to get exciting. Lachlan plans on becoming Lord of Scotland and in order to do that he has to be the one to kill Erskine to show the other vampires that he's the stronger vampire and a good leader.
They fight their attraction for pretty much the first half of the book but even when they do finally fall for each other and end up in bed...it wasn't very exciting. I didn't really feel a connection between these two for most of the book because even though they become lover's, their personalities have no real spark and fall flat. This book is categorized as a Romance , Sci Fi & Fantasy book but the romance took a back seat to their revenge and their trying to kill Erskine. I found this book more dark and gruesome than romance.
Lachlan knows that when Erskine finds out he's close, he'll come after them. Julia is a human and stands no chance against a vampire so having her there was just idiotic. But he made plans with Julia and told her that she could be included in his plans to kill Erskine if she helped him and she held up her end of the bargain so he has no choice but to hold up his, even though it could very well get her killed.
I read pretty fast but this book took me 4 days to finish because I kept getting bored and putting the book down but kept hoping it would pick up at some point. This book starts out slow and only picks up towards the end of the book. If you're already a fan of this series, you might like this book but I can't recommend it.
Disclosure: I was given this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review but all opinions are my own.
As I’ve said in the past D.B. Reynolds is truly a master storyteller! Once again she has given us another delicious vampire to fall in love with along with another kickass heroine to admire.
Lachlan McRae is a Scottish Highlander who happens to be a vampire, a vampire who woke from his rebirth in 1846 to find most of his clan slaughtered by a rival clansmen led by Erskine Ross. Unfortunately, as a new vampire he didn’t have to strength to challenge the older rival vampire clan leader, who, present day is now the Vampire Lord of Scotland.
Julia Harper is a CIA analyst who comes from wealth and is a childhood friend of Cyn’s. When another childhood friend of Julia’s is murdered she takes leave from her job to investigate his murder and exact revenge. All-in-all another fantastic addition to this wonderful series. As usual we get a glimpse into the next book and once again I’m very intrigued. I can’t wait for more!!!!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more of this authors work. I highly recommend this author to friends and family alike.
Just as awesome as expected! I loved this story, it was a little mild then many of the others in the series. I enjoyed the flow and chemistry with these two sexy characters. Of course we have a new vampire lord, but the development was wasn't a surprise but just written very well that the how was just as exciting
Lachlan McRae is driven to avenge the murder of everyone he loved and the time has come to hunt down and kill the vampire responsible. After her friend is murdered, Julia Harper steps out of her role as a CIA analyst and sets out to take down one of the most powerful men in Scotland. Julia and Lachlan want the same thing, the Vampire Lord – Erskine Ross’s death, but Erskine has Julia and Lachlan fighting for her life and for a love that neither one of them can trust.
A powerful and breath taking, exhilarating read that has readers wondering if another evil bad guy will bite the dust. Lachlan and Julia have some serious chemistry going on but the relationship is chock full of trust issues and both of their determined mind sets that they have to take down the vampire lord of Scotland. Both of these characters are strong, very bold characters that readers can really sink their teeth too with lots of emotional turmoil plaguing their relationship and lots of explosive passion that sets readers’ senses aflame.
The fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps readers glued to the page with lots of heart pounding suspense, adrenaline pumping excitement and thrilling danger with this story being further enhanced by the appearance of Raphael and Cyn during a tense meet and greet. A couple of potent and white-knuckle battles adds further hair raising enjoyment to this already superior read, which ensures that readers will want to read this powerful, exhilarating, and intensely satisfying romance over and over and over!
I received an advanced reader's copy of Lachlan by D. B. Reynolds from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Disclaimer: I had never read anything by D. B. Reynolds before this and had no expectations either way. Happily, I did enjoy her writing style and would gladly read other novels in the future. Also, I'm always a little leery about jumping into an on-going series without reading the previous books to "meet" the characters, understand the world building, etc. Although you could tell that this novel continued a previously started story arc, the author took the time to introduce the characters and world without dragging it out.
I was a fan of the main characters, CIA analyst Julia Harper and vampire Lachlan McRae, from the start. Julia was strong in her own right and not looking for anyone to save her, but she accepted help when it was necessary AND wise so I liked the author for writing a strong female lead character who used her brain. I thought D. B. Reynolds did a nice job of fleshing out both characters without going overboard or making their attraction unrealistic (you know the kind-when you basically roll your eyes at the overdone instalust that makes the romantic pair seem as though they're halfwits who can't function due to being lust crazed). The plot was fact paced and interesting, and I was engaged from the first page.
All in all, it was an enjoyable novel to read and I will definitely look for future novels by D. B. Reynolds!
