I didn’t realize this was the second book in the series so it took me a minute to catch up but it’s definitely a fun magical Christmas read!. Aunt Emma’s pie shop in Hocus Hills is delightful and I loved the cozy magic throughout! I love the unique close-knit community, the magical pies (seriously I’d love a slice of pie to fix my troubles wouldn’t you?) however it was a little short on the Christmas theme! This would be a perfect read while sipping hot cocoa and nibbling on pie! I think I’ll go back and read book one!
This was slow to start off but I persevered and I am glad that I did, this gets a whole lot better after the first chapter. Had I known that there had been an earlier book in this series it would have made things a lot easier to understand. Yes it is about magic and yes there is romance plus a lot more as well. This is well written and I have enjoyed it. I am sure you will as well.
What a lovely and enjoyable story!
It was great to be back in Hocus Hills with Aunt Erma at the helm of her magical pie shop, along with Susanna (Susie) Daniels. In this yuletide instalment, Susie is busy at the pie shop and spending time with her boyfriend, Henry, as well as a friend from her past who has suddenly rocked up, showing a keen interest in her. She is also trying to prevent a group of bad lads from stealing her aunt's precious magical spices.
A Slice of Christmas Magic by AG Mayes made perfect reading for me between other more intense, lengthier novels. It was funny and quirky with a cute and cosy feel. This book was a great package of Christmassy fun, joy and magic and it was a perfect story to enjoy with a mug of hot chocolate and a large Christmas cookie.
With its great story and wonderful characters, I would recommend A Slice of Christmas Magic to Romance, Christmas and magic lovers wanting a short weekend read. I will be reading more in this very appealing series.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel, at my request, from Harper Impulse via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
I received an Advanced Reader Copy from NetGalley and Harper Impulse for my unbiased opinion of the book. This is the second book picks up where the other one left off. Susie who recently discovers that she, her mother, and Aunt Erma as well as most of the community in Hocus Hills are made up of witches. Susie finds herself being a major part to help stop the forces of magic revolution that is trying to take place right under her nose. I really like this book so much better than the first. The first one was trying to figure out which end was up. This book new where it was going and got there! Also, it was extremely enjoyable and funny to read. I look forward to the next installment in this magical lol series!!!
Such a fun read. I'm guessing this is part of a series but I caught on by the 3rd or 4th chapter to the other characters. These are the books that everyone loves. A quick read, magic and good at heart against evil and evil doers. The plot was fun and unique - I liked all the Christmas elements.
It is not often that i read books associated with certain times of the year, but having previously read 'A Slice of Magic' and very much enjoying, i didn't hesitate when given the chance, to read 'A Slice of Christmas Magic'. Once again, this was a very enjoyable read and made a welcome change from the usual genres that i read. Recommended.
My thanks to Netgalley and the Publishers for my copy. This is my honest review, which i have voluntarily given.
(Waiting Amazon to publish my review).
A lovely and festive novel, a bit slow at the beginning but with an engrossing and entertaining plot.
It's great to meet again the fleshed out cast of characters and read about the development in their life.
This is sweet Christmas fairytales that made me smile and feel good.
I look forward to reading other books by this author.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
This was a fun Christmas story about Susie Daniels who is learning about magic from her Aunt Erma in the town of Hocus Hills. There are two guys vying for her attention while a group of bad guys are trying to steal her aunt's magical spices. If you like light romance mixed with magic, this book is for you.
I have not read the first book A Slice pf Magic, so now I will go read that book. I hope that there will be more books in The Magic Pie Shop series.
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley to review and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
This holiday read was a whole lot of fun!
With Hocus Hills in danger of falling to a magic revolution, Susie and her family/friends, who make up The Morning Pie Crew, band together to fight and outsmart the villains. Clever twists, satisfying touches of romance and a wonderful Christmas feel kept me entertained. Loved the relevant Agony Aunt pieces at the start of each chapter, too!
I was not impressed with this book. I did not think the characters were thought out enough. The story jumped around too much. There was too much going on. You never really knew what was going on. I don't think I would read any other books in this series.
This sounded like my kind of book, but unfortunately I just couldn’t connect with the story or characters, it was very slow going. Unfortunately not for me.
Cute story. It's almost been a year since I read the first book in the series, so I didn't remember all the characters and what part they played in the previous book. The book starts up immediately where last one left off. At times it felt like parts of the book were rushed and more details could have been given. I don't think I could even tell you many details about each character. Pretty much nothing is known about Aunt Erma until Susie meets Ivan. Then we get a small glimpse into Erma's life when she was estranged from Susie. I wouldn't have minded reading about the people writing to Elodie. Most of them seemed interesting (very strange and probably slightly crazy-- Seahorse wallpaper). Susie overreacted when the dog ate the Christmas cookies. She acted like he ingested poison.
Everything gets solved very quickly and easily. The book is full of magic, pies and more magic. I do enjoy reading the series. So if there is another one in the series, I'll definitely read it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Harper Impulse and Killer Reads through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Having picked this book up to review I realised that it was the second in a series, however I did have the first book in my TBR list so promptly read that first.
Following on from this first book Susie is settling into life at the pie store with her Aunt Emma, producing pies with a touch of magic. Her friendship with Henry is growing, however it is thrown into confusion by the arrival of her old friend Joe. To add to this there are still issues of the magical type with the villains from the first book, which escalate even further with an attack on the townsfolk by snowmen that suddenly come to life.
Starting slowly the story did start to pick up pace as it developed, with escalation of the magical attacks, a new canine companion for Susie and her powers beginning to show. There is no doubt more to come in this series and I will certainly be following these with interest as the author grows in her storytelling.
I thought I would like this book but it's hard to follow. I'm sure someone else will like it. I love to read different series of books. Hopefully someone else will enjoy it. I dont like giving bad ratings a out a book. I put this one aside to read another book.
3.5 stars
A Slice of Christmas Magic is the 2nd book in The Magic Pie Shop series by A.G. Mayes. This is my first book by the author and I have not had the opportunity to read the first installment, A Slice of Magic. When I read the blurb, I was super interested because first off magic! and then add magic pies! and I was totally sold. Now, I had read some of the reviews so I knew to expect some level of confusion as the first book was said to lead straight into the second, but I was still pretty confused. So just a stronger warning here, read the first book!
Despite being a little lost plot-wise, A Slice of Christmas Magic was a cute magical Christmasy time book filled with pies, snowmen, hidden Christmas trees, ice skating, and a little mysterious intrigue. Oh, and there's even a bit of a love triangle too. Having not read the first book, at some point I think I suspected almost every single character to being in on the 'plot' to out the magic users. I'm just a suspicious person, so it was probably just me.
The book is cute, sweet, filled with love, pies, and even a few dogs. I would recommend for those looking to read a sweet HEA filled with cold-weather/Christmasy vibes.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for this generously provided ARC!
A Slice of Christmas Magic by A. G. Mayes
"A Slice of Christmas Magic" is a delightful journey into the magical world of Susie Daniels, her aunt Erma, and a magical pie shop. Who wouldn't love to live in a place where you could enjoy a delicious piece of pie which has been sprinkled with just the right kind of fairy dust to instill the confidence, love, peace, trust, or self-esteem you need for the day ahead. Susie, aunt Erma and the Morning Pie Crew provide just such a service to the people of Hocus Hills. Inevitably, whenever there is a product that is useful in promoting good, there are some who want to capture it and use it for their own less-than-good purposes. The IMPs--a group of magical people who are determined to empower magical people over non-magical folk--are out to steal aunt Erma's secrets. Susie, a newcomer to the reality of magic, has to come to the rescue.
This was my first entry into the magical pie world of A. G. Mayes. As a result, the opening chapter or two were a little slow as I had to catch up to speed with things discussed in the first book. In all, I did not find it hard to read and enjoy this book without having read the first book.
A word to those who might choose this book believing they are in for a magic filled holiday read: the Christmas theme is extremely tangential to the storyline and plays little or no part in the book. Read it for the magic pies, not the magic of Christmas. You will not be disappointed.
I am grateful to NetGalley for providing me with the chance to read this book and offer my review.
It is Christmas in Hocus Hills and the Brenda & her family were still on the run (and still after Aunt Emma's magical spices). Susie has her hands full helping out at the pie shop, juggling her boyfriend Henry and a friend from her past who has suddenly shown up and showing interest in her, and trying to catch Brenda before she destroys the town with her evil magic.
This is the second book in the Little Magic Pie Shop series. Don't worry if you haven't read the first one (although you would really enjoy it), because the author does a good job recapping everything that has happened so far. There is a great blend of magc & mystery with a bit of romance thrown in for good measure. I loved this book and I think you will too.
Lovely festive read. It was a heart warming romance. It was a wonderful book to read. It was well written and flowed well. Magical read
I got a sense of deja vu when I started this book. I knew it sounded like a book I’d enjoy based on the description (magic pies!). But I didn’t realize it was from a series until I started it and recognized the characters from the first book. My opinion is, read the first book before this. Otherwise you might wonder why one of the characters used to be a cat.
This book picks up shortly after the first one. Susie is still getting used to the fact that magic is real and her family uses it.
She’s working at her aunt Erma’s pie shop. She’s also trying to get to the bottom of the missing, magic spices.
There’s an agency in town, the IMPs, that are trying to use magic for bad purposes.
I enjoyed this book. What’s not to like about magical pies?
I got to read an early copy from NetGalley. Thanks!
