This book was really cute, I'm not a cat lover but Casper might just win me over. The relationships between Clara, Adam and Josh were a bit predictable but it was a good read, I'd recommend this book!

I enjoyed this story and the characters, but at times it left me confused. Some chapters would begin in a way that left me feeling like I’d missed something important. They almost always corrected themselves but I would be confused for a page or two before the details were revealed. Cute sorry though and I’d read more from this author.

I received an advance digital ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

Clara is content with her rescued cat Casper, bane of the neighborhood, general terrorist and hunter of small rodents extraordinaire. She’s still dealing with grief from her parents’ death some years back, and finding that her work at the museum as assistant curator has been her salvation. Of course, there’s still Jeremy, her boss, and some pretty regular academics in their small Oxford museum – but overall she loves it. There’s really not much wrong except the tiny niggles about her best friend Heather’s life and marriage, or her own difficulties with Casper savaging her dates, once she brings them home. She’s convinced that he’s a great judge of character, and feels that his acceptance of a prospective man will be the key to her finding marriage and a partner just like Heather – even if she’s also quick to dismiss ‘needing a man’ outright. But with a surprise visit and stay from her younger brother, and Casper finding yet more trouble when he’s nearly run over by a bicyclist who takes great offense to his accident.

But when a cut necessitates an emergency vet visit, and the new vet is not only attractive but finds Casper’s many antics IN the clinic during visits amusing, and sparks fly between Clara and Jeremy the vet – Clara gets ideas. See – I adored Clara, although she was a bit immature when it came to relationships and her romantic side: but who doesn’t want all the hearts, flowers and special moments? The thing is – Clara moves fast, and into love quickly- while Jeremy perhaps wasn’t so keen. Then there is the professor, Adam. A far more intriguing choice for Clara – in that he balances her ditzy side and keeps her grounded and thinking, even if Casper hates him (like he does most men), and she can’t seem to figure out why he’s always so ‘grounded’.

Lucas created a really clever story here – where people learn, grow and find new footing with new information, plenty of hijinks and terrorism from one orange tomcat and some lovely moments where fancy takes first place. Speaking to miniatures, truly enjoying her work and the museum, rearranging (and occasionally talking with) the miniature Victorian portraits and being on a first-name basis with the Fire Chief (simply because of your terroristic cat) can’t be a bad premise for a story – right? Well, add in some serious self-discovery for Clara, a wonderful romantic gesture from one of the men in her life and some great friends and a twist of fate to bring more family together and you get this – a great read for the season – with no holiday expectations whatsoever as you wander through Oxford streets, spend time watching a cat and generally enjoying the atmosphere!

2.5 stars.

I would like to thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for my advanced copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

This is a fun and super quick read. Sadly, it's not very memorable. The premise of "my cat picking my suitors" is enticing and makes for a quirky setting.

Let's start off with things I liked about this book. The cat, obvi. Clara was sweet and happy most of the time allowing for this tory to feel light-hearted. The two male leads were sort of ok.

Now to the less likable parts. First of all, the title doesn't hold what's promised. There were no TEN things the cat hated about anyone. There was actually very little cat-suitor interactions. Secondly, Clara was a bit boring and self-centered which did not drive the story in any direction. I was excited that she worked an interesting job for example but then seemed to be completely out of touch with what's important (like writing grants for funding - why?, I never received an answer to that reluctance to do what's required of her. Why was this tidbit important to the story?). Her younger brother actually stays with her in her apartment for a while and Clara is so focused on her own life, she doesn't notice that he might need help? This was a serious situation and could've given the book some depth but was handled in a nonchalant way and sort of glanced over, kind of like an unnecessary side-act. Thirdly, her romantic interactions seemed just wrong. One guy treated Clara badly and the other kind of babied her in a bad way. Neither one seemed a super desirable match. The outcome of the love triangle was also incredibly obvious and really no triangle at all. I wish the author had left some mystery.

All in all, this was a kooky, very British read that I think is best enjoyed when a need to escape reality is urgent.

Clara works for a museum and lives alone except for Casper, the cat she adopted several years ago. Casper is the type of cat, actually like most cats, in that he does what he wants, when he wants, and how he wants. Hey, he’s a cat.

Clara’s brother, Freddie, has come to stay for awhile and there goes her neat apartment. But, that’s OK because she loves her brother.

At the museum one day, Clara meets a stuffy professor named Adam. She is embarrassed to find that he is the same guy who wrecked his bicycle when he swerved to keep from hitting Casper.

Casper’s vet is Josh, a hunk with whom she immediately hooks up. He stays over a lot and all they seem to have in common is great sex. She likes to think of him as her boyfriend.

Before long, Clara and Adam become good friends and she starts to see him in a new light. Could she be attracted to two men at the same time? What can come of this situation?

This is a sweet story about a woman looking for a man with the best qualities. It’s just that she must learn to recognize what’s good and what isn’t. Although Casper is actually a bit player, he does bring a smile to readers’ faces.

Clara lives in Cambridge and works in an Art Museum. She is a twenty-something who is finding her way. She has a cat, Casper, that has scared off multiple potential suitors. She has a best friend that is happily married with toddler. Her younger brother, Freddie, seems to have moved in- or maybe it's just a visit- Clara's not sure. What she is sure of is that she's ready for something more. Amazingly enough, Casper figures prominently in not one, but two Meet-Cute's. One is a cute new vet (thank goodness he's a new vet, because none of the other ones will even try and treat Casper) and the other is a young Cambridge professor. I will leave it to you to see how it works out for Clara.

I thought Clara's voice was great- there was action, interaction, and a humorous running monologue. of Clara's thoughts. Casper definitely managed to steal the scenes he was in. The comedy of Clara's interactions was almost slapstick (in a good way- assuming you like slapstick) where I wanted to both laugh with Clara and cringe all at the same time. It did get a little long- lots of almost endings- but I think that was all part of Clara's journey. Not just a romance, but a coming of age story as well.

This book was laugh out loud funny!

I absolutely loved Clara and her cat. The romance was fun and hilarious.

SUCH a great book! Perfect rom-com, not over the top or too unrealistic, but packed with all the mushy feels! Loved the setting, loved the characters, and loved the writing.

Casper is a strong-willed ginger Tom cat who ‘adopted’ Clara a couple of years ago, and has since seen off every possible romantic prospect she has brought home...and then in the space of a day Casper is the reason she meets two attractive men and life suddenly becomes very interesting.
I liked Clara and I think lots of women could relate to her dating frustrations and the ups and downs of single life.
This is a light-hearted read and I like the author’s writing style, which I found easy to read and very enjoyable. There was plenty of humour throughout and overall a very enjoyable read.
My thanks to NetGalley and Harper Impulse and Killer Reads for letting me read this advance copy in return for an honest review.

As a few other I chose t read this book because of the title!

Not everyone gets nine lives...

So he better be the love of a lifetime!

When Clara’s ginger cat Casper chases yet another romantic prospect out the door she’s ready to give up on love altogether. But then the fussy feline causes two meet cutes in the space of a day and suddenly Clara has two gorgeous men driving her to distraction. But who is in control of happy ever after? Clara, fate...or the cat who started it all?

This book was cute, quirky, and really fun. Romantic comedy in movie or book form always makes you feel better because life can be so stressful and sad..

Casper the cat is a great fictional cat and I always love when a furbaby is center stage in a book. I had a huge smile on my face by the time I finished this book!

I requested and received an Advanced Readers Copy from the publisher and NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I really thought this rom-com was very cute. It was a quick read for me. I loved the romance, humour and Ginger the cat. I thought the ending was a bit rushed which is why I ended up giving it 3 stars. Other then the ending, I did like this book. It wasn't my favourite rom-com that I read this year but I'd still highly recommend this book.

Ten Things My Cat Hates About You follows twenty-five year old Clara Swift and her romantic escapades as she stumbles through her twenties. Clara thinks her brother Freddie and her best friend Heather both seem to have romance all figured out, but feels that she personally can't get it right. It doesn't help matters that her cat Casper hates every man she brings back to her rainbow-painted house, and that she is still dealing with the death of her parents.

Casper the cat might be my favorite fictional cat of all time. I did find the ending predictable but there were a few crazy and funny stories tucked in to make it worth reading.

Definitely add this book to your list!

Thankyou to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review.

My thanks to Harper Impulse Killer Reads/One More Chapter for an advance copy via NetGalley of ‘Ten Things My Cat Hates About You’ by Lottie Lucas in exchange for an honest review.

In the opening pages, Clara’s ginger cat Casper has just alienated yet another romantic prospect and she’s on the verge of giving up on love. Yet it would be a very short romcom if she elected to settle down with the possessive Casper wouldn’t it? She challenges him: “Do you really think you can do better than me?” I whisper. “Do you know something I don’t?”

Indeed, after this discussion with Casper it’s not long before he manages to bring two gorgeous men into her life. Will either win her heart and gain Casper’s approval and a place in their lives? I had to read on!

The story is set in Cambridge where Clara has the enviable job as an assistant curator of a small private museum. I probably would class it as a comedy-drama as it has its serious moments alongside the fluffy bits. (Speaking of bits, I found myself a little concerned that Clara might not have gotten Casper the snip. Yes, I know he’s a fictional cat but it’s an important message to get out there for all kinds of reasons including deadly fights between unneutered males).

This novel provided a lovely distraction and lifted my spirits on a gloomy winter’s day. I felt that the romantic aspects were handled well along with Clara coming to terms with her parents’ deaths and finding her direction in life. I cared about its characters especially the grumpy Casper.

I love novels about cats and Casper reminded me of my own darling boy, who was very possessive of my attentions and continues to be deeply missed.

A very entertaining novel. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.

This is a review from a confessed cat lover so of course there's going to be a bias because of the cat.

I really enjoyed this story and selected it based on its title alone. I really enjoyed the relationship most in this book not of Clara and either of the men vying for her attention, or even her and Casper her cat, but of Clara and her brother Freddie. I actually was disappointed that relationship wasn't looked into more since that was the one I felt drawn to the most.

Overall honestly both men (and Clara, at times) annoyed and infuriated me so I'm not sure if I'm the best to give a review. It's a solid read and a different spin on other novels of the like that I read a lot but there are some drawbacks. Still, it was charming in its own ways, so the extra half of a star.

Thank you to Harper Collins UK and NetGalley for a copy of this eARC book in exchange for my honest review.

SYNOPSIS | Clara is a hopeless romantic and dreams for a love at first sight interaction with her one true love. Clara's cat (Casper) however is sassy, possessive and causes havoc with whoever he interacts with. In the span of one day, Casper causes two meet cute situations - one with a cyclist who nearly runs him over and one with the vet who has recently moved to the area. Now Clara has two attractive men pursuing her...

MY THOUGHTS | The writing in this was surprisingly witty and I found myself chuckling on numerous occasions. It has a classic love triangle (which isn't my favourite romance trope), but I thought it did a really nice job of showing the growth of the main character as her idea of what being "in love" means and changes throughout the story.

As a cat mom I loved this book. Is my cat the reason I'm single?
My cat also like Casper is a sassy ginger, that judges everyone he meets. I feel as if Clara is my kindred spirit, shes funny, kind, hopeless romantic and has an amazing group of friends. This book was a quick, easy read and very charming. To all my cat moms out there, pick up this book!

Okay, I definitely picked this one up because of the title. 10 Things I Hate About You is one of my all-time fave movies, and as a cat lover as well, this romantic comedy looked to be nicely geared towards my interests. And in a lot of ways, it is; with a charmingly kooky protagonist in assistant museum curator Clara whose rescued cat Casper takes great pleasure in terrorizing her potential love interests and the beautifully scenic city of Cambridge, England as a backdrop.

Unfortunately, there are also a few things I really don’t like. Two love interests both given about equal weight in the story even though only one of them was endgame, both of them treating Clara badly - Josh was a player and Adam infantilized her - and, frankly, irresponsible cat ownership. About 90% of Clara’s problems with Casper’s attitude would have been solved if she’d neutered him and kept him inside at night. My inner RSPCA volunteer was SCREAMING about her blase attitude to Casper’s nocturnal wanderings. She lives in a city, not on a farm. Allowing an entire tom to wander the neighbourhood at night to terrorise the urban wildlife and father unwanted kittens made me want to shake some sense into Clara, and her pet ownership pretty much typified her entire attitude to life. She needed to wise up and start behaving like an adult if she wanted to be taken seriously, and stop complaining about not being taken seriously!

Clara works as an assistant museum curator but doesn’t want to do the unglamorous work of completing grant applications, even though she knows very well they’re the lifeblood of the museum; is it any wonder her boss is reluctant to give her greater responsibility? Her self-centredness was nowhere better illustrated than her relationship with her younger brother Freddie, who comes to stay with her at the start of the book. It’s more than a month later when Clara actually notices something serious is wrong and Freddie needs her help and advice, but doesn’t know how to ask for it. Or maybe doesn’t ask because he can’t rely on her to be helpful, I wasn’t really too sure. In short, Clara’s a flake, and though she could be charming and funny, she’s also unreliable. I struggled to like her, I didn’t believe in her happy ending because there was too much left unresolved, and I just wanted her to neuter the darn cat. Two stars.

The title grabbed me then this British rom-com stole my heart. This is a sweet and funny tale of opposites attracting. Clara is smart but a little flaky and has a few misses on her path to finding love. I really enjoyed this story.

I got this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book has a slow start. A lot of time is spent on setting up the life and relationships of Clara Swift. As a first impression, I'm not really liking her or the BFF or the storyline. A cat chases away your boyfriends? And you can't, like, IDK, text them later? I know we are suspending disbelief for the love of a good story, buuuuuut.... It's a big ask in this case.

The relationship between her and her BFF is kinda mean... They snipe at each other about past mistakes and it's really judgy. Clara and her brother Freddie have a nice sibling thing going, but again, Clara is so self involved and flighty she recognizes he has problems, but does not do much to help or ask about them until they are on her doorstep.

Then the boyfriends... They are both delightful, but again, she is flighty and weirdly overly attached or distant with no discernable reasons. My favorite person in this book is Ruby, who is a minor character. She is negativly described as a feminist 😳. Yikes.

For all my complaints, once the story got going, it was interesting to see where things went. I enjoyed the setting of the book a lot too. The main character did grate on me, which prevented me from really enjoying this book, but she may connect with others.

Happy Reading!
