In Ten Things My Cat Hates About You, Clara is tired of her cat Casper's habit of terrorizing any guy she brings home. Her friend Heather suggests that Clara find someone Casper actually likes, and in the meantime Casper seemingly orchestrates two meet cutes with two different men. Overall, I liked Clara - she works as an assistant curator at a small museum, and she's dreamy and romantic. I really liked her relationship with her brother, who has mysteriously come to stay with her, and with her friend Heather, who seems to have everything together. My issue with Clara, though, is how long it takes her get her love interest's feelings through her skull. I also didn't love her work storyline trajectory - it felt unfinished, and Clara was pretty passive in regards to work issues. I wanted her to be more proactive in general, I think. Overall this was a breezy, quick read and I found it to be fun.
As a lover of both cats and romance novels, I absolutely adored this novel! Clara was a riot, as was Casper, and I found myself laughing out loud multiple times at both their antics. I also got warm fuzzies at certain parts, especially when Casper put his paw on Adam's hand in a mini truce.
At times I did find the love triangle a tad tedious, and wish she had discovered who "the one" was a biiit earlier on, but overall I thoroughly enjoyed Clara's self-discovery that you don't have to lower your standards or decrease your demand for romance and true love...you just have to be a bit patient and willing to notice those who are standing right in front of you. I also enjoyed that the man she didn't' chose didn't turn out to be a total villain or jerk, as tends to happen in these types of romances. He had his own version of self-growth, and I appreciated how her plot-lines with both men ultimately played out. The secondary characters, such as her co-workers, friends, and brother, were all well-fleshed out, their unique personalities and humor all showing through and helping to keep the story engaging and relatable.
I'm honestly hoping this comes out as a physical book and not just ebook, because I'd gladly order a copy for my grandmother for Christmas. She's a fellow cat lady and romance lover, and I think she'd adore it. Basically, I completely recommend this to anyone who wants a feel-good romcom with a spectacular fluffy ginger lead!

This book was cute, funny and thoroughly british. It was a nice easy read that had my attention from the beginning.
I loved that it was set in Cambridge and the punting and historical landmarks were included. Even though I haven't been to Cambridge I felt as if I was transported there. The setting and all the very british words and britishisms made me smile and proud to be from our small island.
From the beginning I knew this was going to be rather...well...silly. I read the book under the pretence that it wasnt going to be all together believable and rather quirky on top. I think you just have to let yourself be taken on a happy ride with books like this as it did make me smile.
The main female lead was brilliant, quirky, full of joy but also a hard worker and struggling with real problems. She was easy to like and to route for and I loved that she worked in the museum as it gave her a whole different depth.
The romances...well I obviously guessed who she would end up with and it was so clear from the start. I wish it had been a bit more of a mystery. There was one point (that I won't say due to spoilers) that I thought the book could do without and maybe a few extra scenes with added depth would have been nice.
Overall a nice easy read that I would recommend to anyone that loves cats and a cute book.
Please note that this ebook was gifted to me in exchange for an honest review.
I was not the biggest fan of this, I just couldn't get into the story. Oh well, maybe her next book will be for me :)
Clara is 25 and her life is about to get interesting. An incorrigible cat, a new vet, a grumpy professor and a brother who suddenly crashes at her place in Cambridge suddenly take over her life. Clara is a romantic who has always wanted to have a husband and kids but it hasn't happened for her. Every time a potential boyfriend comes around her devil cat terrorizes them! Actually, he terrorizes everyone in the neighborhood, but Casper is the special man in her life so maybe there is a reason no-one gets past him. However, when a new vet and a grumpy professor find their way into her life - one of whom Casper adores and one of whom he hates- Clara has to find out whether to trust her cat's intuition or not.
I think this book was excellent! The cat was my favorite and I absolutely adored reading about his shenanigans. This is a great example of British romance books, filled with many love interests, family and work drama and great friends. Life has challenges and not everything turns out perfect all the time, but that is okay. All these experiences teach you something new.
I recommend it to people who prefer British romance to American ones.
this was super cute and fun - a very enjoyable story! i admit i totally picked it up because of the cat, and it didn't disappoint. really enjoyed it!
Super cute and funny story! Loved it! Such a light and easy read that will make you laugh out loud several times.
I’m really happy to be wrong about this book. From the title and the blurb I was intrigued but didn’t have high hopes, despite the claim of being perfect for fans of Mhairi MacFarlane (who I love)
What hid behind the cover was a well written, amusing and clever story. Critics will argue that there’s nothing new here, but that’s true of the genre as a whole - what matters is the journey and this was a brilliant one! Highly enjoyable, highly recommended. Will definitely be wanting to read more by this author.
This book had me rolling. It reminded me a lot of a Sophie kinsella story or Bridget Jones lots of hilarious laugh out loud moment's with adorable romance! So easy to sit down and just fly through this would be the perfect book for a night in of just reading!
it's kind of a been there done that sort of book. I've read this formula and they didn't do much to really switch it up. It was an easy read and nothing too memorable.adorable romantic comedy. The ending felt a bit rushed
A fun and entertaining read.
I loved the character of Adam, and you hope he gets a chance with Clara - and with Casper!
I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. Ten Things My Cat Hates About You by Lottie Lucas is a madcap romp of a novel that takes place in Cambridge, England. We meet the heroine Clara Swift just as her obnoxious rescue cat Casper has scared off another date. When her brother Freddie and best friend Heather suggest that perhaps Casper has better taste in men than she does it’s something to ponder and maybe dating someone Casper approves of will work better than the way things are going now.
Enter handsome veterinarian Josh and curmudgeonly Professor Adam Warwick one of whom Caspar adores. I found this story to be a very enjoyable read with a rich cast of supporting characters and highly recommend it. Medium Steam. Publishing Date November 20, 2019

Hmm...hard one to review.
The writing was “ok”. Actually everything was just “ok” with this one.
I feel horrible but it’s just not a memorable book.
It’s supposed to be a romcom but I didn’t laugh that much.
Closed door romance that’s an easy read.

A fun and quirky romance that leaves the reader rooting for the cat more often than the leads! Ten Things My Cat Hates About You is a funny and up-beat read who's strongest character is our feline friend Casper! Lottie Lucas does a fantastic job of bringing the fun in this read. My first read of Lottie's but definitely not my last!

“In retrospect, putting my fate in the paws of a raging sociopath wasn’t perhaps the wisest move I’ve ever made.”
Clara’s track record with men isn’t something to write home about. In fact, each time she thinks she may be getting in deep with a man she quite likes, her furry little terrorist, Casper, steps in and makes his feelings known. From biting to clawing to a general angry disposition, Casper has yet to like any man who has crossed Clara’s threshold.
With yet another man sent scurrying out the door thanks to the furry mafia boss, Clara is at her whit’s end. After years of failed romances and in yet another fit of despair, Clara whines to her best friend about Casper and the loss of yet another seemingly perfect man. Also, at her whit’s end with the repetitiveness of Clara’s whining, Clara’s best friend jokingly suggests Clara start paying more attention to Casper and his attitude as, like small children, animals just know things about humans. Though the idea seems ludicrous, Clara has tried everything else to make her fairytale dreams come true and they simply have not.
Clara’s first experiment in listening to Casper comes far more quickly and scarily than Clara would have liked. Following yet another fight, Clara rushes Casper to the vet and though she is told by the surly receptionist there isn’t a doctor on staff who will continue to treat her terrorist, the new guy steps up to the challenge. As it happens, Casper not only behaves for the new guy but actually seems to like him. Will wonders never cease?? Determined to heed her cat’s signals, Clara dives headlong into a relationship with the hot vet. Casper is content, healthy, and even happy when the vet is around which makes Clara exceedingly happy. Lost in the throes of new love and lust, Clara feels her personal dreams are finally on the road to the longed for HEA.
Meanwhile, in her professional life, Clara is struggling with her micromanaging boss and a surly yet strikingly handsome professor who spends many days per week in Clara’s museum doing research for a new book. Though the professor is handsome and clearly brilliant, he is somewhat off-putting and always seems to say precisely the wrong thing to Clara. What’s more, through no fault of his own, the professor has accidentally met Casper and the meeting went anything but well. Even if Clara were to like the professor, she’s got the hot vet and she’s listening to her cat when it comes to men these days. With nothing but sheer determination, Clara decides no matter how handsome and brilliant the professor may be, she’s only going to be his friend as that is all her cat will allow.
And then it all comes to a colossally humiliating and very public end . . . . . .
The Bottom Line: Ten Things My Cat Hates About You is one of those books I simply adored. It is utterly ridiculous at every level – Clara bases her love life choices on a terrorist cat! – and I loved every minute of the ridiculous. Clara is at once intelligent and completely naïve; she wants the fairy tale romance and has spent her life trying to turn every relationship into that fairy tale which has resulted in nothing but heartbreak and frustration. When the right one finally presents himself, Clara is so wrapped up in her cat-related experiment that refuses to see or acknowledge what’s right in front of her. Clara is one serious hot mess and I just couldn’t help but like her and root for her. Though she makes some truly stupid decisions along the way, I still found myself wanting nothing but the best for she and Casper. I liked the competing romance aspects of this book, the wonderful settings (the town, college, and museum!), and the dialogue that is wildly varied and very the strength of the book. Banter and barbs, wit and snark, and truly heartfelt conversations populate this book and keep it moving at a fair pace. Plus, there’s a terrorist cat!
Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC.
I wanted to read it because I often joke that if my cat doesn't like the people in my life they won't be around for long. Lol. I loved the bond between Clara and Casper. This was a lovely, quick read. If you like romance and you're a cat person I would recommend this book!
This is a fun and quirky romance. In addition to the crazy cat and his somewhat wacky owner, if features a love triangle of sorts. There are some ups and downs, some happy times and some heartbreaking times. A couple of bad break-ups followed by some make-ups. The characters are all unique, including the side characters, and let us not forget that darn cat who tries to steal the show. This is a clean and safe for teens and up. (Some sexual content is eluded to, but not played out in book.) There are a few scenes that lean towards the sad side, but for the most part this is an upbeat read... though some of that is due to the crazy way the Heroine thinks. Plenty of humor throughout as well. It is written from her POV. It reads easily and smoothly.
*I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley.
This was an absolutely hilarious, laugh out loud, honest, relatable jewel of a book. It was definitely more about the cat being more attuned to his owner's best interests than the main character herself. Let's all be honest here, more often than not, animals are a better judge of character than we are as humans. This is basically the whole point of the book but it is told so hilariously and whimsically. I read this in two and half days, it was that good and I am not even a cat person! Glad I took a chance om this because the title and cover are what initially drew me in. Hope everyone else loves this as much as I did!
Thanks for ARC in exchange for an honest review!
I am totally not a cat person, but I was still intrigued by this book. It was romantic, sweet and funny and I even enjoyed the cat parts. Clara was a really endearing main character, you could not help but want to root for her to get her happily ever after. The setting in Cambridge was just perfect and so well described. I loved picturing it while I read. Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC.
- Narrator is too chatty with the audience. Excessively chatty. It is obnoxious.
- Adam is very unhappy about not instantly being told Clara's cat is responsible for semi-wrecking his bike. Too much so. Who storms out like that? At least Clara called him on his overreaction.
- Josh starts showing his "why do we need a label" colors very early on.
- Adam is 29 and doesn't know about Long Island iced tea? Must be a British thing.
- The kiss with Adam was really sweet. The second one, where stars aren't magical, but "you, on the other hand, are another matter." That is a good line.
- Adam gets the best lines. "I'm a classics professor, remember? I'm used to long stories. The Roman Empire lasted 1,500 years, after all."
- Underlying theme that accidental pregnancies all turn out okay is a little worrisome. I mean, they frequently DO end up all right, after a fashion, but it's just a little weird to see them normalized and marginalized simultaneously in so many books lately.
- Honestly, Adam should probably reconsider Clara. She's not going to give up having histrionics once she's in a stable relationship. She will probably make him crazy.
- Are all officeworkers in England so involved in each other's lives. How meddlesome and unpleasant that must be.
- This might be better adapted to film, which would spare the audience the narration, which never got less annoying.
