Lethal Nights is the third book in Lora Leigh’s new Brute Force Series. This series is action packed, suspenseful, erotic and includes an interesting mix of alpha military romance and organized crime. This book can be read as a standalone, but when read in order, a greater appreciation for the series is achieved. The Brute Force series has links to the storylines and characters in Leigh’s Elite Ops series.
Ilya Dragonovich, the hero of the story, is no stranger to the darkness that lies in humanity. He’s tried for years to live with honour, despite his childhood. Emma Jane Preston, is the kind, strong willed heroine of the story who struggles to build a happy life after her disastrous marriage. When Emma needs help, Ilya comes to her aid, but that decision puts them both on a collision course to either an early grave or a happily ever after. Will their love be enough? Only time will tell. This erotic knuckle biting story will keep you on your toes.
Lora Leigh has done it again. This is another great addition to a great series. Leigh is a fantastic author with great characters and storylines, and I have read and loved most of her book series. Although, I have yet to read her Elite Ops Series, from the glimpses I have read throughout this series, I can’t wait.
I received an ebook copy of this book from NetGalley for an honest review.
This is the third book I have read by Lora Leigh, and I enjoyed it for the most part. Thanks goes to the publisher, via Net-Galley, for the chance to read and review in advance of publication. My opinions are my own and are not influenced in any way.
Ms. Leigh writes fantastic suspense scenes that had me nibbling on my nails, waiting to find out what would happen next. It quickly drew me in, and I had a hard time putting it down. This is a plot-driven story, and for anyone who loves hot, steamy sexual scenes, there are those as well.
Emma Jane Preston is a bit of the girl-next-door type of character. She’s recently gone through a divorce and isn’t looking for another relationship. She needs to heal from her bad marriage with a man who did a number on her self-esteem. She is attracted to Llya Dragonovich, but she tries to ignore her feelings for a good part of the book.
Llya Dragonovich, known as the Dragon, is a tortured hero and believes he could never be good enough for Emma. He’s done thing he’s not proud of and knows that when it’s time, he must assume his roll in the family. A family who has unusual business practices. He would not want to put those types of dangers on a family.
The romance between Emma and Llya is amazingly sweet, especially compared to the strong, verging on Erotic scenes, in Dagger’s Edge, the second book in this series. I actually liked this a lot more. I enjoyed watching their romance develop and wanted them to find their happy ending.
If you enjoy high suspense romances with well-written suspenseful with a lovely romance as well, then you will love Lethal Nights. It will certainly keep you on the edge of your seat. Happy reading!
This book was just ok for me. The whole weird dragon tattoo on his face, and it "flirting" with Emma was just weird, and amateurish. Emma is starting over after her divorce and while she met Ilya when she was in the process she didn't do anything about it. Now, someone breaks into her home and tries to execute her, Ilya comes running to protect her.
I think if the whole dragon and gypsy mystical tribe was removed from this I would have enjoyed it more. I am not one for fantasy, paranormal books so that could be why I liked it less than Lora's other books.
I enjoyed reading this book. I like the two main characters, Ilya and Emma Jane. Ilya is the brooding male hero. Emma Jane is the girl next-door who’s not afraid of him, one of the only people who will stand up to him much to Ilya’s surprise. I like the development of the relationship of this couple. If you like your books a little bit steamy then this is one for you. Throw in some suspense and you have a winner. The only complaint I have was that it was the third book in a series and I have not read the first two. I felt like I was lacking some knowledge and background of the characters. There were so many people coming in and out of scenes that I had to really concentrate to try to figure out who was who and what was going on. I feel that if I read the other two books I would have more of a background on those characters and on Ilya himself. I would recommend reading them in order even though this book can standalone. I will definitely go back and read the other two stories in this series.
While I am still persisting with this series, it fails to meet the standard of Lora Leigh’s previous series. Personally, I felt there were too many gaps in the storyline, and events and actions left unexplained. The story tended to be drawn out and lacking in pace and conviction. Overall, it wasn’t a bad book, but there was definitely a lot of room for improvement. I’m interested to see where the series goes from here.
LETHAL NIGHTS is a fantastic, consuming, face fanning read.
If you want a steamy--and I do mean steamy--romance; a hero that takes no prisoners; a heroine who is re-learning who she is and her strength; action, danger, intrigue, and a sexy, flirty dragon tattoo then get your hands on LETHAL NIGHTS.

Book 3 in the Brute Force series, Lethal Nights is well paced, compelling addition to the series. Ilya and Emma are well suited with great chemistry and the story had plenty of action, suspense and danger to kept me engaged throughout. I will definitely be recommending and reading more by this fabulous author
Not having read the previous stories in this series, I felt at a disadvantage. Add to that the fact that the title doesn’t seem to match the story and there was a hitman involved, for me , it was a turnoff.
I felt that the plot of the story and the background information was a tad vague, and Ilya and Emma Jane just didn’t do it for me.
Realizing how hard authors work to produce a book, the least I will give it is 3 stars.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley and St Martin’s . The opinions expressed are solely own.
Lethal Nights is the third volume in the Brutal Force series by Lora Leigh. I didn’t read the previous volumes titled Collision Point and Dagger’s Edge, with different heroes. In all cases, we can perfectly read Lethal Nights as a standalone because it’s a new plot.
I already read Lora Leigh who writes erotica. Here, the story is really soft, meaning the first sex scene doesn’t appear in the first pages and there are not many of them. However the attraction and the sensuality are omnipresent from the start.
I had trouble getting in the story. I didn’t understand at all what direction the author wanted to give her book. In fact, it’s indeed a romantic suspense but Lora Leigh added a touch of supernatural linked to the hero’s family past and his future. So it was a bit disturbing but I finally got used to it.
The novel is a quick read in spite of this especially as the writing is flowing, the characters are interesting and we want to know all the whys and wherefores.
Our heroes, Emma Jane Preston and Ilya Dragonovich, meet a first time when our heroine in the middle of a divorce is in a difficult situation. Ilya makes her an offer in order for her not to lose everything in the procedure. They meet again one year later or so when she finds herself in danger. Nobody knows why but the hero fears it’s because of him. Anyhow, seeing what he feels for her, he decides to protect her.
I really liked the relationship between the heroes. We immediately feel the attraction they have one for the other and they yield quite fast to their desire. Emma Jane knows their story can’t last but she decides not to hesitate. It’s the hero who brakes because he thinks he’s not good enough for her and he’s afraid of her reaction if she learns what he can do. In spite of it all he can’t fight his feelings.
The part that frustrated me (and explains my rating) is the suspense and especially the solution of the plot. I hate when authors don’t assume this facet to the end and end their story on nonsense! Unfortunately I can’t say a lot more here without revealing too many elements but let’s say the alpha hero turns out to be a wimp and the author tries to get through by having a secondary character intervening.
Speaking of secondary characters, there were many of them. Between the characters from the previous volumes and those in this one who are in addition part of different “worlds”, in the end I couldn’t remember the role of the ones and the others in the story. Besides some vanish along the way. Even if I really appreciate the love story, there are too many negative points to give a better rating.
As a consequence, I have mixed feelings about this story and I don’t know yet if I’ll read the two previous volumes. For now there are three volumes but one of the secondary characters could have the potential for his own story. To be continued…
Three and a half
I know when I choose to read a book by this author that it’s bound to be extremely steamy with saucy times aplenty and when in the mood I’m very much ok with that. This is actually the third book in this series although I seem to have missed the other two but will state that I found this worked very well as a stand-alone. Yes characters that are obviously from previous books appear but they are very much background and the main couple quite rightly dominate this story.
Emma Jane met Ilya when she needed desperately to save her home from her greedy soon to be ex husband. Their attraction was incendiary and immediate but Emma Jane is an old fashioned type believing in the sanctity of vows and to be honest I didn’t think she was actually ready for romance. Luckily Ilya is aware that timing is everything and walks away but when later Emma Jane becomes a target he’s back in her life and this time he is most definitely staying !
This book was an entertaining, spicy read although for this reader too much was made of Ilyas dragon tattoo and exactly why he’s referred to as Dragon. I thought the way Emma Jane referred to his tattoo as if it had a life of its own was cute but unfortunately at times it almost felt as if the author was confused as to whether this was a romantic suspense or a paranormal romance. I just didn’t find the mystical elements about ink or dragons and mates to be realistic. I did enjoy this couples journey however and thought the final revelation and showdown was perhaps a little rushed but nevertheless it did make sense. Not my favourite book from this author but certainly one that anyone looking for a hot read would enjoy.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
Lethal Nights (Brute Force, #3) by Lora Leigh This is the third book in the series and I will have to go back and read the first two.. Thank you to the publisher and #NetGalley for letting me preview this book. Ilya Dragonovich "Dragon" and Emma Jane Preston "EJ" ...the first time he sees her ...he wants her ... she knows she should fear him with the dragon tattoo on his left cheek and his cool eyes. (but she doesn't) this book has it all...angst, violence, intrigue, laughter, tears, very steamy sex all to get to a HEA...
Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Informative Page-turner Haunting Easy-to-read Steamy Tear-jerker Great world building Action-packed Entertaining Scary Happily Ever After Wonderful characters Witty Romantic
Can I just say I that I wish Ilya was here, in my house? WOW! I love everything that I've read by Lora Leigh, and this book is no exception. HOT, HOT, HOT! I could just picture Ilya's tattoo in my head, and I wish I could see it winking and flirting with me as it does for Emma Jane. I couldn't put it down, I got so into the story that I needed to see what happened next. Highly recommend!
This review is based on an ARC from NetGalley, courtesy of the publisher. All opinions are my own.
I was a bit confused when I started reading this book. There seemed to be stories that tied in with this one and I was a little lost. Overall I enjoyed the book
Fast-paced, compelling thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat. I had not read the first two books in this series but I had no trouble following along and becoming completely immersed in this one.
Emma Jane and Ilya have some unmistakable attraction between them. Lots of heat. He’s good at his job, excellent really. She is strong and capable but needs some help right now, and he’s there. She wants to move on from her divorce but her ex-husband has other ideas. Brute Force security agency – and Ilya – can provide the help she needs. And so much more.
The plot is strong and the story moves smoothly along, with danger (and romance!) at every turn. The characters have some depth and are interesting enough to want to know them better. Good series. I will be reading the first two books and looking forward to the next one.
Thanks to St. Martin’s Publishing Group and NetGalley for providing an advance copy for my honest review.
If you like your men dark, dangerous and oh so sexy then Ilya Dragonovich is the book hero for you. No woman is going to tame him except the one who doesn’t want to. In the midst of a nasty divorce Emma Jane Preston needs help and Ilya provides it. Now a year later Emma is under attack and nobody can figure out why but Ilya isn’t about to let anyone harm the dragons mate weather he has claimed her or not.
Lethal Nights is a fast paced smoking hot story featuring a good woman and a very bad man. Break out a glass of wine and a fan for this one.
The vivid descriptions of action, tattoos and location are mesmerizing in LL’s new book. The tattoo dragons sound beautiful and I would love to see a dragon winking or smirking. The action is fairly non-stop and quite entertaining as we work towards The Who and why behind the attacks. Both EJ and Dragon have some baggage, but I love the way they work through it and fight to get to their happily ever after. Very hot scenes and very sweet moments show their relationships and also build on the dynamic between Ilya and his siblings, grandparents and heritage.
This book is part of a series, but it can be read alone. I would recommend reading book 2 though as the relationships between him and Ivan, him and Alexi and him and the security agency really appear in that book.
I enjoy this series and look forward to the next book from Lora Leigh! Thank you for the chance to read this book and share my opinions!
Emma Jane Preston was about to lose her home to her estranged husband. Ilya Dragonvich appeared on her doorstep with a proposal that would enable her to keep her home. It certainly didn’t hurt that he was definitely not hard on the eyes, except for the dragon tattoo which covered the entire side of his face. He was well known in the society circles to always have a beautiful model on his arm. Ilya was to inherit his fathers vast fortune, and he intended to convert the business to legitimate means, without the Russian Mafia being entangled in it. What could he possibly do to help her keep her home from her estranged husband? Apparently she was to enter a contract to use her home as a safe house for individuals he would bring there. Soon thereafter, things started to get crazy. Nikolai, the man she worked for, had his business blown up. Both he and Emma Jane barely survived the explosion. Then her house was attacked, as well. Ilya became very protective of Emma Jane, and made sure he was with her almost 24/7. Who was targeting her, and why? The attacks didn’t start until Ilya started coming around. Was is possible that her estranged husband had anything to do with it? Ilya was going to get to the bottom of this. He had his own security force flown into the town for additional protection. Little did both Ilya and Emma Jane realize it, but they both became enamored with each other. The problem was that both were much too proud to face this fact. Will llya be able to keep her safe? Will he find out who is attacking her? Will he be able to destroy the person who is doing this? Do llya and Emma Jane finally let each other know how they truly feel about each other? I enjoyed this book. There was a lot of action and intrigue throughout. The only negative of this book was the constant scenes of very graphic sexual content. It became. It became very boring to me, so much so, that I stopped reading those sections altogether. The book would have been great without it. Romance is great in a book, but the explicit sexual scenes, did this book an injustice.
Book 3 in the Brute Force series was fast paced, exciting and full of action packed drama.
The action starts straight away and continues to roll from there. Emma and Dragon are interesting and like night and day with their differences. It's really hard to describe without being cliche that the authors skillfull writing helps develop the characters and helps paint a picture in your mind where you're only limited by your imagination.
Lora Leigh continues to write excellent stories which are captivating and dramatic with characters who are engaging. The writing was descriptive and thoughtful of the situations.
Thank you, I will be back for more.
It was an ok book kind of predictable you knew what was going to happen. If you like a little hot sex this book you would like
I read everything I can get my hands on by Lora Leigh and have never been disappointed, this one is no exception........it’s another steamy contemporary......if you like bad boys and the girls that tame them this book is for you. The bad boy in this book is Ilya Dragonovich, the Dragon. The girl is Emma Jane. This book has it all, romance, steam and sexy coming off its pages at every turn. Put Lora Leighon your auto buy list you won’t be disappointed.
