Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. I am afraid I really struggled and skipped a lot of this book as did not warm to the characters or storyline.
Cass and Loll were best friends. But then it happened, and for the past six years they haven’t spoken to each other or seen each other.
And then, a letter from Cass arrives. She is dying and wants to finish (or rather start) on the bucket list the two friends made after uni. The only problem: Lauren has a job and a husband, Cass has a little daughter and she is getting weaker. And they haven’t resolved their issues.
The Book Of Us is the book in which they wrote down their dreams.
Needless to say, they go on their adventure. But what happens on their trip is more than what they intended in the book.
The characters are very stereotypical – the loud colourful and fearless one in the position of the dying young mother and the quiet, mousy, scared one taking over the organising and being (gently) pushed outside of her comfort zone – but the story is heart-warming and the plot carefully written to leave some unknowns until the very end.
Thank you #NetGalley for the ARC.
This reminded me almost of a modern day Beaches, in terms of very close friends and then a fight that tears them apart. Lauren and Cassidy meet in college and instantly connect and even made a bucket list so to speak. I would even say they are soul mates until a terrible fight causes them to cut ties with each other.
They reconnect nearly six years later when Cassidy reaches out because she is dying. Lauren (Loll) agrees to see Cassidy and brings their bucket list with her. Along with Cass's daughter, the women mend their friendship.
This book brought ugly cries for me. Even though it took a while for me to get into it, it was a beautifully written book!
Lauren and Cassidy meet at University and are inseparable. Cassidy is a beautiful, blond free spirit and Lauren is dark, quiet and serious. After Lauren's marriage to Darren there is an argument with Cassidy and they no longer see other. Six years later Lauren's husband walks out on her and she receives a letter from Cass asking her to come see her because shes dying and to bring the book they had in school, basically a bucket list. When Lauren shows up at Cass's door she meets the daughter she had as a result of a one night stand with Lauren's husband and she named her Veronica, a name Cass knew Lauren planned to name her daughter someday.
I didn't like Lauren much. She hates that no one seems to like her or that Cass is so pretty that no one sees her but she makes herself unlikable by assuming the worse and griping at people. She is anxious and doesn't stand up for herself. She didn't really stand up to Cass or to her husband, she just went along and thought how miserable her life was.
Cassidy was beautiful and people were drawn to her but she used them and when she got what she wanted ignored them. She really was a hot mess. Sometimes the sniping between her and Lauren got old. I kept wondering they were taking this trip together.
As much as they got on my nerves Veronica was wonderful and I wished I could meet her. I liked the concept of the story, two old friends going on a bucket list trip and making memories for Veronica. The descriptions of the scenery were lovely and even though I had a pretty good idea how it would end I still wanted to go along for the ride.
This book wasn't really for me even though it was well written I just couldn't gel with the characters, it was a toil to get to the end and by that time I wasn't bothered about how the story ended.
Thank you to Netgalley and Harper Impulse K.R's for giving me the opportunity to read this book.
My first book by this author and one I thoroughly enjoyed!
Cass and loll were best friends for what felt like ever until they fell out dramatically one night!
6 years later they are back in touch, trying hard to forgive and forget and rebuild the easy close relationship they had in the past! This is no easy task and their friendship is tested to the hilt, especially when they find their big book of our lives written many years before and now using it as a bucket list of things to do and see together with cassies daughter Veronica, over time as cassies illness progresses and loll and cassies relationship develops once more we are taken on an emotional and poignant journey as cass prepares to leave this world entrusting her most treasured daughter into lolls care, sensitively written poignant, heartwarming and uplifting.
Thank you net galley for this early read.
"Value your happiness- it matters."
The main theme in this wonderful story of true friendship, love, hope, sadness. loss and family.
Lauren and Cass were the best of friends until they had a huge falling out and did not speak for over seven years.
They finally come back together to make amends. Just in time!
Will Lauren be able to overcome her anxiety and help Cass to prepare for her final journey? Can these two friends find it in their herts to forgive each other and renew their love for one another?
Will memories be made?
Remember - there are no coincidences in life. Each decision made has a purpose.
There is so much to learn as you become absorbed in these women's adventures together!

When I read the description of this book I thought I was going to fall in love with it. Sadly I didn't. It was a good read overall but the characters didn't draw me in and love them. The ending was the best part for me. First for me from this author.
This is my first book by this author so I didn’t know what to expect.
I was drawn to this book by the description and while I enjoyed the idea of the book, for me the delivery of the book didn’t work as I hoped.
Lauren was a character that was easy to relate to and I loved seeing how she grew and started making choices that made her happy and how she stood up for herself.
I had trouble connecting with the rest of the story and the actual journey in the book. To be honest I got bored with the descriptions of the ‘ crossing of the bucket list”. I skimmed parts of that.
This is a lovely book. I enjoyed the relationship between Cass and Vee very much. I liked the way that we learned about Cass and Lauren and their previous relationship as we journeyed with them in the present.
This book was never going to have a 'happy' ending, but I thought it concluded well.
There is a cast of characters that bring depth and warmth to the story, some we like, some are villainous. It's a light, easygoing read that will appeal to many people.
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publishers for my copy of this book.
