Some Gorgeous-Looking and Sounding Recipes, But…
Meal prep books are certainly big these days. I have found them based on a variety of diets and food preferences. This one is right in my wheelhouse because I am a vegetarian who dabbles in veganism at times. Let me first talk about those things I liked, which are many. The book is bright and colorful, starting from the introductory pages and continuing this through the recipe section that has a picture for every one. Many of the recipes sound like excellent flavor combinations. The authors have a tip section in the introduction to help set up your success, and the meal prep plans themselves are highly detailed. I actually think that bulk cooking directions like these not only teach you to make a particular prep plan but also help you understand how to streamline your process when you want to do something similar with your own recipes. The book covers all meals as well as has a section of the staples, including three fascinating recipes that use cashews as a dairy substitute and a variety of sauces. There are three duo plans, where you prepare two recipes, that the authors state should take you less than an hour to do. There are also two plans, one for each author, where they give some favorite recipes to do all in one plan. They have different approaches to meal prep and eat slightly different foods, even though they both eat a plant-based diet. These are much longer plans, more detailed with more recipes. Each plan includes a shopping list and a plan of attack.
My chief complaint about the book is that the authors don't tell you how to reheat the prepared dishes. Most meal prep books I've read not only include storage instructions, which these authors do, but also have specific directions about how to best reheat the food. These directions are not given with the individual recipes nor are they included in the introductory section (as generalities). I think this is a big drawback to this book. I also thought this book had some very complex recipes. When I think of a meal prep book, I think of one with simple ingredient lists and not a lot of component recipes. The duo plan recipes are more straightforward, but the plans for each author are certainly more complex, especially Steph’s, which I imagine would take a fair amount of time to prepare. So if you truly wanted to work either of their plans in total, be prepared for a very long afternoon and make sure to have plenty of storage room in your refrigerator.
All in all, I liked the interesting-sounding and beautiful-looking recipes, but I am not sure how much I was sold on this as a meal prep book because of some of the lacks I just mentioned. Also, I just felt like something was missing from this book, but I can't quite put my finger on it.
Plant-Based Meal Prep is a great book & a great addition to any library. It is well thought out and the recipes are fabulous. So many great recipes are all in this book and they are all simple and easy to make.
Excellent book. full of wonderful, practical and delicious options for Plant-Based Meal Prep ideas. Highly recommend.
This is a great resource for anyone eating a plant-based diet who wants to save time during the week. Having healthy meals ready to eat means less eating out and less highly processed foods.
Very good resource for a plant-based diet. Easy, yet tasty recipes that work for a variety of lifestyles and budgets.
Meal prep is a huge thing right now and this book serves as a great intro level instruction manual for vegan and vegetarian preppers. That being said, it didn't feel like anything particularly new or unique.
Yes!!! Finally a plant based vegan cook book with easy to follow recipes and normal ingredients!!!! I am so excited to try many of these recipes. I am trying to eat more WFPB so I am glad I was able to get a copy of this book!! Thank you Netgalley!
I love to batch cook my meals and this book gave me some great ideas. I love that they have a pairing so that you can easily prep multiple things easily. There is a shopping this to go with those pairings so if you are in a hurry you know exactly what you need. Most of the recipes have pictures but I wish they all did as I tend to only make recipes with photos. Some of the "prep times" were not quite accurate because they required pre-cooked food. When I'm in a hurry I like to look at the times but with this book I found I couldn't because if I didn't have the ingredients already cooked it would add a large amount of time to the prep time. I also wish there was an easier way to see which ones could be stored in the freezer. Overall, this is a great book for those, like me, that like to prep meals in advance.
I received this book in exchange for my honest review.
Simple recipes with common, easy to find ingredients. It's loaded with helpful information for anyone who is vegan or wants to be. I really enjoyed the simplicity of this recipe book and would definitely recommend it.
I found Plant Based Meal Prep by Stephanie Tornatore and Adam Bannon an enjoyable cookbook with easy to follow recipes and my personal favorite, tons of pictures! I appreciated the different takes on cooking plant based offered by Stephanie and Adam and can't wait to try out some of the recipes!
The recipes are reasonable with easy-to-find ingredients in my small town. Our library has a large patron base who are curious about exploring plant-based meals, so I think this will do well at our location. Thank you for allowing me to read and review.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I have been thinking about going plant-based for a few meals and this book has helped me realize that it would not be that hard. Most ingredients I already have or would be very easy to get a hold of. Recipes are easy to follow and look delicious.
Really good cookbook on plant based meal options. The authors have a popular YouTube channel and many of the recipes are based on that. I have been looking for ways to add veggies to my diet and I found a few recipes to try. Do note the recipes are simple and not expensive but many feature quinoa (I personally don’t like quinoa) I wanted to make note of in for anyone like me who isn’t a quinoa fan. However I found plenty of recipes I like and if you do like quinoa you will love the recipes I didn’t. I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review.
Plant-Based Meal Prep is a simple, easy to use cookbook with good tips and information for people new to eating vegan and/or plant-based meals. The tags were great and they make it easy for people to find stuff that fits their diet. As someone who is admittedly terrible at meal prepping, I really enjoyed Stephanie Tornatore and Adam Bannon’s tips on how to make meal prepping quicker and easier. The recipes I’ve tried so far (flexible fried tofu, sautéed broccoli with garlic, veggie stir fry, and mango salsa) have turned out well and all of the ingredients are easy to find. For me personally, the biggest downside is the book is heavier on grains, potatoes, and pasta than I would like (though I do appreciate that everything was gluten-free). Even taking that into consideration, I think this is a helpful, practical book that is useful to have on-hand.
Anything that can make healthy eating easier is always on my radar! So many meal prep books feature a lot of meat. I was so happy to finally find a good plant-based meal prep! This is great for anyone that is plant-based, or just wants to add more veggies into their day. Easy to follow and a great addition to any food cookbook collection!
Love this book. I have tried several of the recipes and am working on more. I love the vegan/vegetarian aspect of meal prep. The directions are easy, the ingredients are easy to find. I did buy some of the recommended bento boxes to help with the prep because I did not have enough containers. I also watched some of the YouTube videos the authors put out. It's helpful to see the techniques they write about in the book. I'm going to buy this book for my library. I think others will really enjoy it.
Such an awesome cookbook. If you wish to use this to start a plant-based diet or are looking for my meal options to feed your family, this is a great start. For those of you who are looking to start a plant based diet, this is great because they include prep week ideas. It even includes the shopping list and how to start cooking all the food on prep day.
For those of you looking for healthier food to feed yourself or family, there are tons of recipes in here. Personally (maybe because I’m sick at the moment) the vegetable soup looked delicious. Also I know my family would devour those buffalo cauliflower! Tomorrow I plan to make the salted caramel oatmeal for breakfast.
Trying to eat more plant based as a family and this book is a lifesaver! The peanut tofu recipe was delicious! I am not a big meal planner and this book was so helpful with that and with the prep on sundays. I love cookbooks that are useful!
Some very nice plant-based recipes. Not sure this will appeal to my library's demographic who tends to focus on dinner rather than 6 small meals a day.
While I liked the discussion about the difference between plant-based and vegan, I found the recipes in this book to be simplistic and uninteresting. Perhaps it would be a good cookbook for a college student just learning to cook. I am all for simple meals, but these recipes often seem like they are just rehashes of the same things that have been around for decades. I would give this one a pass.
