I miss two books in between, and everything changes in the world of the Dragon Kings!!! Three years ago when I had the honor of meeting Donna Grant, I distinctly remember her saying that there are surprises in store for the readers. Sure enough the twists and the storyline got very interesting and now I have to go back and catch up on the last two books..
This is an amazing series and Donna Grant is a master at keeping this series intense, interesting and entertaining. Each Dragon King and his mate make a compelling and courageous couple as they battle betrayal, torn friendships and a war to end all wars!
Don't miss this series!
An amazing and fast-paced addition to the Dark Kings series. Kelton and Bernadette are perfect for each other. Questions are answered and new questions arise.
Grant has a wonderful way with characters and storylines. She never disappoints me.
I received an advance copy of this book from both the author and the publisher via NetGalley. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias.
THIS BOOK! It started out simply enough like the other Dragon King novels. Keltan left Dreagan to see what Dr. Bernadette Davies had on them during her lecture claiming that dragons were real. He was the perfect fit because he was the king who didn't want a mate. Bernadette knew more than she said in her lecture but she wanted to stir up interest in the topic. Only her friend, Usaeil, wants her to do it faster. That gets her to Dreagan to find out the truth. Something Keltan doesn't expect but doesn't particularly mind either. Then the adventure begins with discovering what the Queen of Light's plans are and how to best protect the women under the Dragon Kings' care.
The writing in this novel was so good. It pulled everything together and flowed nicely. The two main characters were well written and grew with each other as a potential couple. With the right amount of denial from Keltan who didn't want a mate. I highly recommend this book to anyone because if you've been reading them the showdown that we've all been waiting for is here.
Keltan and Bernadette were a cute couple. Keltan struggled with admitting his feelings but after enough scares he admitted them. I liked Bernadette a lot. She was smart and wasn't afraid to stand up for herself. I quite enjoyed them and I can't wait to see what it is about Bernadette that the Others want.
Also the battle against Usaeil finally happens! We finally see the battle between Usaeil and Rhi. It was a tough one. Things are very unsettled at the end and I can't wait to see what choices Rhi will make in the future. We also need to know more about Con and his time with Usaeil because I know there is more going on with him.
I am also very curious about Melisse.

4.5stars--FEVER is the sixteenth full-length instalment in Donna Grant’s contemporary, adult DARK KINGS paranormal/fantasy series focusing on the Dragon Kings and the women they love. This is citrine Dragon King Kelton Dreagon, and anthropologist Bernadette Davies. FEVER should not be read as a stand alone as the current story lines continue to follow an ongoing series arc.
SOME BACKGROUND: The DARK KINGS is a spinoff from Donna Grant’s DARK WARRIOR series which in turn is a spin off from Donna’s DARK SWORD series- all set in the Highlands of Scotland. The Dark Fae and their King Taraeth, along with the Silver Dragon Mikkel have declared war on the Dragon Kings by exposing the dragon’s existence to humankind. The last wars between man and the world of the paranormal saw a great loss of life on all sides but someone or something is determined to push the Dragons back into another war: Queen Usaeil of the Light Fae has set her sights on claiming King Constantine as her mate, hoping to rule the world with their combined powers; King Taraeth and Silver Dragon Mikkel have been killed; and the Dark Fae are now under the control of the former Light Fae Balladyn. With the recent introduction of the Fae executioners known as the Reapers, the number of interconnected series continues to expand.
Told from several third person perspectives including Kelton and Bernadette FEVER is an ensemble story line with numerous subplots that advance the series towards its’ final chapter. Dragon King Kelton is sent to keep an eye on human female Bernadette Davies, who is threatening to reveal the existence of dragons to the world but something about Bernadette’s need to expose the almighty beast appears forced and out of her control. As Kelton struggles with his attraction to the human female, our hero will come face to face with his future when Bernadette arrives on Dreagon with news of her own. With King Constantine imprisoned by Queen Usaeil, the Light Fae Rhi, the Dark Fae led by Balladyn, and the Dragon Kings prepare to go to war, a war in which not everyone will survive. The Light Fae Xaneth is missing, and with war on the horizon, his life may be forfeit or lost for all eternity. What ensues is the building but reluctant relationship between Bernadette and Kelton, and a battle wherein lines are drawn, secrets are revealed, and death on the battlefield may be the ultimate sacrifice.
Like many of the previous instalments, FEVER chronicles the history of the Dragon Kings, Fae, Druids and Warriors; recounts the beginnings of Dreagon; and recaps the events that led to the original war between humans and dragonkind. Sides will be chosen when lies pit Dark against Light but not everything or everyone is what or whom they appear to be.
Donna Grant continues to the pull the reader towards the final chapter in her fantastic Dark Kings paranormal series. Some conflict resolution is achieved but many questions remain, hinting at what’s to come, what’s next, and who may be Rhi’s fated King, a fate destroyed by manipulation, jealousy and greed. The action packed premise is revealing and intriguing; the characters are numerous, colorful and energetic; the romance struggles in the face of magic, manipulation and the potential for future control.

Epic!! That's what this book is. Finally something happens that everyone who has been reading this series has been waiting for. Another Dragon Kings finds his mate and like almost everyone one before him, he is hesitant to make her his mate. I can't wait to see what happens with Henry. All players are involved with this book besides the Warriors. I really miss the Warriors. Bernadette is a very smart lady that gets everyone else thinking of different plots. I of course can't wait to see what happens next.
*I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley/Author and am voluntarily leaving a review.*
I just love stories from Ms Grant, you can guarantee that you will be swept away by her vivid imagination, sending you to world where the Dragon Kings warriors are alive. This is Kelton and Bernadette's story.
I received a copy from Netgalley and I am voluntarily leaving my own honest opinion
The Dragon Kings Saga continues and this is Bernadette and Keltan’s story. This can be read as a stand-alone but a few things may not be understood without reading previous books. This read has plenty of drama and Bernadette and Keltan’s chemistry is steamy. Other old friends from previous books are there is well and more is revealed. I loved it!
Fever is the latest installment of The Dark Kings. The focus of the story is on Bernadette and Kelton. Wow this story was amazing, but it really wasn't based on the couple alone. While their story was intriguing, I was drawn into the back/side story. We learned a little bit more about the Others, saw glimpses of the Reapers and Death, watched with anticipation to understand what is going on with Con, the Dragon Kings uniting with the Dark Fae to fight a common foe. Oh and Rhi...wow I am dying to spill all the spoilers, but this book had so much going on! I cannot wait for the next book to come out!
The plot keeps us going with plenty of twists to keep the story moving nicely. Bernadette and Kelton do not really have the insta love, but there is something just underneath the surface. But once it bubbles up, all bets are off. As always, anxiously awaiting the next book. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of Fever.
This is Book 16 in the Dark Kings series. I felt it was a little slow and drawn out in places, but it was still a very good book. Bernadette is an anthropologist who claims to have proof that the Dragon Kings are real. Kelton is going to prove her wrong. The clash between these two is a slow steady burn that finally catches fire in several places. There’s a lot going on but it’s enough to keep your attention as the mystery of her proof is investigated. Donna Grant keeps finding ways to write new story lines as she’s ending others. I recommend you read it as we get just a little closer (we hope) to the end of the evil Queen who just has to cause problems for everyone. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book that I received from NetGalley.
Yay!!! Stuff is finally happening!! You do have to wait a bit for it and there’s still lots to happen in the future, but finally, the story that has been going throughout this series is being addressed more hands on. Even the characters were like why in the heck did we wait so long to do something. Usaeil is still the moron with her fingers in a whole bunch of pies; causing more problems that should’ve been dealt with long ago. Constantine was a complete idiot about so much and I can’t believe he did what he did for a little information. I feel bad for his mate; he has a long ways to go with me. Rhi is tough, but fragile; hopefully she can withstand and rise above.
The focal couple for this book is Kelton and Bernadette. She’s been trying to let the public know that dragons do exist, so Kelton has been tasked with finding out what she knows and discredit her. There’s more at play though and things shouldn’t be taken at face value. The chemistry and attraction between the two begins to pull them together. Sweet and sexy romance.
Overall, the whole story is truly entertaining and interesting. I’m loving this series; some books more than others, but overall, a really great series. Hope we will finally get Rhi’s full book soon. Please!
Every Dark King book by Donna Grant is a treat, and Fever is no exception. The Dragon Kings are sexy Scots with an enormous sense of honor and chivalry. In Fever, we meet Kelton as he connects with Bernadette, who is determined to show the world dragons exist. Fever is an intense ride. The series is so close to its conclusion, and so many things are at stake. Admittedly at one point in the narrative, I took a peek at the end of the story. The anticipation was too much for me.
The romance between Kelton and Bernadette is what you would expect from this series. An almost instant attraction exists between the two, but it doesn't hinder my enjoyment. Kelton and Bernadette's journey is unique to them and worth the experience.
Random spoilery thought: As much as Con's absence bothers me, I enjoy Ulrich in charge. It is a valid way to experience the what-if of it all, and he is doing a marvelous job.
The early copy of Fever I received is a great read. I suggest it to anyone who enjoys paranormal romance. All relevant information from past books is explained in Fever. Although this late in the series do yourself a favor and read from the beginning, it is quite a ride. Now, I confront what always seems like a long wait for the subsequent book in the series.
When a respected anthropologist takes a sharp left turn to become a cryptozoologist, something fishy is going on. Bernadette Davies spent her life's work focusing on ancient times. Her research is sound. So when she switches to preach about "dragons are among us", she loses quite a bit of credibility. She even gives up a lush lifestyle to fund her fanatism. Most of these folklore hunters are disregarded as quacks. Bernadette is a bit different because she possesses solid research skills and is able to piece together a daunting picture. Luckily for her, Kelton is the Dragon King sent to see if she is a danger or not. Unfortunately for Kelton, Bernadette is a danger.
This tale pulls me in by showing how even smart people can be conned and pulled into something against their will. Bernadette's dive into the mythical world is more of a push and shove in by an unsavoury queen with her own agenda. As often it happens, cult followers like Bernadette tend to be just collateral damage. Ms. Grant explores how a person can be so tangled up and the difficulties of extracting themselves from the craziness. Bernadette's case is a bit more extreme with curses, magic and dragons.
As with the other books in this series, the focus is a Dragon King finding their mate who happens not to be a dragon. Kelton struggles with the acceptance of a human mate. We are able to see from Kelton's eyes how horrid humans have been to the dragons of this world. Seeing his perspective, I am not sure why the dragons have anything to do with humans. Nor do I ken their steadfast desire to protect humans. Humans broke faith and trust. Why would the Dragon Kings continue to honour a treaty which has been violated, stomped on and shredded at every turn? It makes no sense to me and nothing Ms. Grant has presented to date convinces me why the humans should remain in this realm.
Despite all of this, Kelton falls for Bernadette. Their romance is fast building with sweetness. The dynamic between them is smooth and it is clear they are a good match. Bernadette's understanding and empathy is what moves Kelton most. Bernadette may have been hoodwinked by the dark side, but she quickly rallies and chooses the light side. She does this even if she knows that it will cost her and she must sacrifice her mind to keep the Dragons safe. I admire her idealist morals. I also admire how she accepts the consequences of her actions, regardless of her being led astray by another. She is not a too stupid to live female. She is one who is logical and ethical. This appeals to Kelton because these are two traits he works hard to possess through the centuries.
Whilst this romance is going on, two other subplots continue to move forward. The bloody thirsty light fae queen is still working on her goal to enslave all, especially the male she wants. A little bit more is revealed about a covert group of cross species determined to destroy the Dragon Kings. There is still no exact motive and whilst I liked learning a bit more, I'm frustrated at how slow the plot is moving. It does still keep me hooked and I want to read the next book to see what else will happen. What more will be revealed of the conspiracy?
This paranormal romance is a great addition to this dragon series. The is book recommended to fantasy romance reader who love dragons and damsels who can save themselves.
I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
This was a great book !
Bernadette is an anthropologist who is could expose the Dragon Kings.
Kelton is assigned to investigate Bernadette.
keep in mind, that he has no desire for a mate.
When he meets Bernadette, he knows that she is his mate.
Now what is Kelton going to do ?
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can't wait for the next book in this series.
If you know a truth, do you have to reveal it? for Bernadette, Dr. of Anthropology, the existence of the paranormal is a fact. But how far will she go to prove what she knows? For Kelton, finding a mate is neither significant nor necessary. Until it becomes apparent that his future will change. Will the reality of their world prove to be more dangerous than it seems? War is coming! Along side the growing relationship of Kelton and Bernadette is the struggle of light versus dark. Usail is not one to be thwarted and the enemies are circling those that seek freedom. Warning - this is story #16 in an ongoing world building series. If you have not read the previous tales, you may not enjoy the action and the struggle as much as each story told increases the knowledge and the background for the action and drama
Fever (Dark Kings, #16) by Donna Grant is a paranormal dragon shifter romance. I love this world created by such a talented author and boy are we getting to the good stuff. Even though this book is part of a series, you can easily pick up on all the necessary elements, even if you’ve skipped a few books in between. The author does a great job of recapping without bogging down the story. Kelton and Bernadette are fun characters that compliment well. Their love story is interwoven with the subterfuge between the Dragon Kings and the Fae. Some questions are answered while others continue to unravel. This is a key book in the Dark Kings world which may prove to be a pivotal turning point for the rest of the story. I can’t wait for more!
Fever is book sixteen of the Dark Dragon series by Donna Grant. As always the romance is hot with a happy conclusion. It also has a major shift in the over theme of the dragons’[ survival which does not always happen in the books. For fans of the series this is a must read. For those new to the series there may be characters who past you need to understand to fully enjoy this book.
Kelton is sent to find out more about the anthropologist, Bernadette Davies. She turns out to be extremely different from his expectations. They relationship is far from normal but not impossible. Ms. Grant gives the reader smart women to go with these strong, loyal dragons which I for one appreciate.
Besides their meeting relationship building and love affair there is a battle brewing. In fact, it has been for several books. By the time of the story’s conclusion a foe and friend are dead, another heart is broken and a new enemy is on the rise as well as perhaps another dragon ally. Serious business for the dragons within a compelling read.
An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
*I received this book free from St. Martin's Press via NetGalley.*
Kelton is in pure denial. He likes Bernadette, but the words relationship and love are so far out of his realm of denial that he can't even grasp them. Not even with everyone telling him so. It's comical at times.
Bernadette, on the other hand, doesn't know who she can trust. She's been lied to, manipulated, and now she's entering dragon territory that not too many humans have ever witnessed. The one thing she does know is that she's drawn to Kelton and she hopes it's natural and mutual; not one of Usaeil's manipulations.
Fever is a compelling book filled with lies, lust, love, and war. I couldn't put it down once I started it.
"You're...all right with us taking your memories?"
"No," she said with a laugh. "But I understand why it needs to be done. This place is very special. All of your are. It should be hidden for as long as possible."
Now I realize this is book 16 of the Dark Kings series, but I've only read this one and the one before it. I do want to go back and start from the beginning, but it's not something I feel like is needed to grasp what's happening in the series. There's always just enough past information added to make it feel like you're not missing anything.
If your interested in an action packed sexy dragon shifter read then this is a good series to sink your teeth into.
Only the second story I have read in this series and I am beyond hooked.
(note to self - get the others)
Fantastic battle ahead, so much hurt, anguish, betrayal yet love, prosperity bloom also.
Bernadette... now there is a mystery building with this one. And I can't wait to find out what it is.
Kelton didn't want love or a mate? He will have a fight ahead of him for sure...
Rhi oh my heart aches for her.
So much action in this one I enjoyed every single word.
Can't wait to see what happens to whom next.

Donna Grant has more than earned the title, Mother Of Dragons.
In this 16th installment of her amazing Dark Kings series, Donna Grant somehow keeps things fresh and new. Not once did I feel as if I were re-reading.
No one does dragon shifters better.
Kelton and Bernadette are the perfect match for each other.
Fever is full of twists and turns, answered questions, angst and sorrow and at the end, this amazing author just leaves you wanting more!
Each book in this series is a stand alone so if you haven't started just grab one and get lost inside a world of the very best kind of make believe.
Thank you Donna for the opportunity to read and review this book.
