Not reading much paranormal lately this author with this one got me to dive into one. Having read also some from this series I do enjoy these. In this one we are given a closer look at Kelton whom will melt us and Bernadette. Once they meet face to face we are given the inner struggles and the feel the burn. You also get a bonus in this because of two others in here. Oh the battle within at times for Bernadette. Danger and drama will also enter into this one with a biggie to boot. We will be turning those pages as we are consumed until you are left limp.
The newest installment in the Dark King’s series was truly an emotional roller coaster ride. From the highs of a blossoming relationship to the lows of a loss. You’ll not find a better book than this one. To get the most out of this series I really would begin at the beginning but it’s not necessary. Fever follows Keltan and Bernadette. With the leader of the dragon kings M.I.A. Keltan is recruited to investigate Bernadette who claims to have evidence that dragons really do exist. From the beginning I could feel the connection between Keltan and Bernadette. I was pleasantly surprised when she showed up unexpectedly at Dreagan. This is were Bernadette learns the truth about the Dragon Kings. It doesn’t take long before they discover who is behind trying to expose the Kings. Without giving too much away Fever is by far one of my favorites. We finally got our battle we’ve been waiting for and I honestly was shocked when I finished reading it. I was and am at a loss of words. If you have not read this series yet you’ve been living on another planet. Do not wait another minute. You’ll not be disappointed.
Although much of beginning is devoted to catching readers up on the dragon king story, It is still worthwhile to catch up a little on prior stories. There are many books but interesting nonetheless. This is another in long line of dragon Kings...lots of action, romance and tons of plot twists. Although story is about another dragon king, finally story about Rhi.
Another excellent story in the Dark Kings series. I am normally not a big fan of paranormal but I am thoroughly enjoying this series.
WOW! Donna Grant does it again! She wrote another book in the Dark Kings series that got me so hooked from the very beginning that I just couldn't put it down.
First off if you are new to this series I do suggest you don't read this one because it is book number 16. Please start from the very beginning of the series so that it will be easier to follow.
I absolutely have been loving this series so far and yes I loved this book so very much. I love the characters.
There is romance, suspense and a great battle. If you are a fan of this book series you don't want to miss out reading this one.
I am giving this 5 out of 5.
Fever is the long awaited 16th book in Donna Grant's Dragon King series. As each King finds his mate, the inevitable battle between the Kings and the light fae queen looms. Oh boy was this book so very amazing. Kelton always hides in shadows and dreams. He is sent by his brothers to listen to Bernadette Davies, an anthropologist who is spouting that dragons are real. It is quickly realized that Usaeil - we all know what we call her, is using Bernadette. This book was everything I wanted with all the kings, their mates, Con, Balladyn, Rhi and even reapers. The dragon king series just keeps getting better. I cannot wait to find out who Rhi's dragon king is and who is Con's fated mate.
Is this the final battle? Keltan knows that he needs to find out what this beautiful woman knows about dragons. He thought that they had nothing to fear but someone is feeding her information. Bernadette knows that dragons are real she just needs others to listen. She just doesn't realise that Usaeil has been using her to turn others against the dragons. Is it too late for Keltan to save her? Is Rhi ready to fight the queen and who will win the battle? Will Con show his true colours? Will the Dragon Kings be able to claim their mates without fear or is there others waiting? Another good read in the series. I was lucky enough to receive a copy from netgalley & the publishing house in exchange for my honest review.
There are answers to some of the questions readers have been putting out there, but with FEVER, new things come out that will have readers going a new direction with their thoughts. .. It is hard to write a review for a book such as this one, because I hate to ruin the mystery for others, so let me say fans of Ms. Grant's Dark Kings will not want to miss FEVER.
If you love your Dragon Kings, a sweet and steamy romance, action, danger, intrigue, and are ready to maybe shed a few tears, then FEVER is what you need to get your hands on.

A complex story of dragons, fae, others and mortals. Good story but being new to the series, very confusing. The passion and love that Kelton and Bernadette feels is real and authentic.
FEVER, A Dark Kings Novel by Donna Grant is book 16 in the Dark Kings Series. This is the story of Kelton and Bernadette. I have read the previous books which I do think helped me to enjoy this one but you can make it a standalone book if you wish to do so. Bernadette is a Dr/scientist who feels that dragons are real and that they are connected to Dreagan Industries. Kelton is sent to see what her findings are and if they are real that might expose them. Kelton was never one to truly be looking for his mate but what he finds in Bernadette is changing that attitude. I am enjoying this series and of course Ms. Grant's writing.
The Dragon Kings’ fight with Useail is come to a head. The final battle is now and the Kings must figure out her plan before their mates come to harm. Bernadette has become a pawn of Useail. She is willing to stand up for Keltan and the others and so whatever she can to find a way to help them.
Unfortunately the danger is just Useail and even defeating her won’t being an end to their troubles.
Fever is the 16th book in Donna Grant's exciting and sensual Dark Kings series. Does it stand alone? Well, kinda sorta. This story is a conglomeration of Dark Kings, Reapers, Dark and Light Fae, Druids, Others and humans. I recommend reading the series in order for maximum enjoyment. However, the story centering around this particular couple stands alone. So jump right in and enjoy the romance and exciting storyline. Don't give yourself a headache trying to figure everything out. Just go back and catch up when you're finished with this one!
Dr. Bernadette Davies was once a respected anthropologist; however, after meeting the Queen of the Light Fae, she is shown that dragons and otherworldly species do exist. She is now a cryptozoologist lecturing about the existence of dragons. Kelton, a Dragon King, attends a lecture given by her to learn what proof she may have of their existence. The two are instantly attracted to each other, which makes things difficult for Kelton, who always swore that he would never fall in love and mate. He brings her to the stronghold of the Dragon Kings so she can learn all about them, with the understanding that when they are through her mind will be wiped clean of all she saw. Things don't always go as planned, though...
The romance between Bernadette and Kelton was sweet and playful, but also incredibly sexy. Ms. Grant really knows how to write steamy time! We also catch up a bit with couples from the previous books. We learn what really happened to Con, King of the Dragon Kings. The most exciting part of this book, however, deals with the clash of war that ignites involving the Dragon Kings, the King of the Dark Fae and Queen of the Light Fae and their respective armies, and the enigmatic Rhi. Main characters were killed (I was totally devastated by one of the deaths!), but where are their bodies?! Though this is the 16th book, there are still many more stories to be told, and the series remains fresh and exciting. I can't wait to visit this world and its inhabitants once again.
I received an ARC of this book courtesy of the publisher and NetGalley. I received no compensation for my review, and all thoughts and opinions expressed are entirely my own.
Book 16. A thrilling addition to a great series. Dragons, love and drama. Donna' s writing catches a reader and brings them into her world.
When I finished Ignite, I was curious about who the next book was going to be about. I knew it wasn’t Con, because Ub*tch had him, so I figured it was Kelton. As for the woman, that was left up in the air. So, I wasn’t surprised when Kelton was the first person mentioned. I was surprised at who his mate was and how he met her.
Fever was an exciting book to read. I was expecting more of a filler book, like Ignite. To my surprise, Fever ended up being so much more. Not only was it Kelton/Bernadette’s romance, but there was a progression with all the major storylines – Con/Ub*tch storyline, the storyline with Rhi, the Dark Fae storyline and the storyline with The Others.
I wasn’t too sure about Bernadette. Like the Dragon Kings, I thought that she was getting her information from someone. I figured it was a disgruntled someone. But I wasn’t expecting it to be Ub*tch. Her sudden decision to go to Dreagan also raised my red flags, as did her immediate attraction to Kelton. But after her heart to heart with him and seeing exactly how Ub*tch destroyed Bernadette’s life made any reservations I had towards her go away. What Ub*tch did to her in this book was awful. Which lead me to wonder, exactly what did Ub*tch know about Bernadette? I also wanted to know why Rhi was so drawn to her. I have a feeling I know why, but I don’t want to spoil it for anyone. All I will say that if I am right, that is a HUGE bombshell!!
I loved Kelton. He was willing to do whatever it took to find out who was leaking Bernadette. But when Bernadette showed up at Dreagan, he decided to be honest with her. He didn’t expect to fall in love. I loved how honest he was about his struggle with Con’s decision to send the dragons home. Once he determined that Ub*tch was using Bernadette, he was going to do anything to protect her, which included sending her back to that conniving evil witch. I did get a laugh over his complete denial of his feelings for Bernadette. Typical alpha male right there.
Bernadette and Kelton had major sexual chemistry and sexual attraction from the beginning. That translated into some seriously hot sex scenes. I did feel let down when they figured out that Ub*tch spelled Bernadette to attract a Dragon King (ie, Kelton). I had a brief moment of panic that those impressive sex scenes I read were magically induced. Thankfully, the author cleared that up fast.
I am glad that Rhi made more of an appearance in Fever. Like I said above, I have a theory of why she was so drawn to Bernadette. Also, her struggle with the dark was so much more pronounced in Fever. I felt terrible for her.
I couldn’t stand Ub*tch. What she did to Bernadette (the blood spell) was wrong. What she was doing Xanth was wrong also. That poor man. She tortured him!! What happened at the end of the book was terrific, but I wish there were closure!!!
I didn’t understand why Death and the Reapers weren’t getting involved with what was going on in Fever. I started to get irritated because Death made such a big deal about Ub*tch being taken down. But, there was a scene towards the end of the book that made me go “Hrrrmmmm.” Made me wonder what the author has in store for that storyline!!
The Dark Fae storyline (with Balladyn) surprised me. I was NOT expecting what happened to happen. I put the book down and said: “Holy crap, that just DIDN’T happen!!!”
The storyline with Con and Ub*tch had me going. I didn’t know what to think about what was going on. All I could think was that it wasn’t good.
The storyline with Henry and Melisse fascinated me. Precisely who is Melisse, and what does she want with Henry? I cannot wait to read the next book.
I have voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this title given to me via NetGalley. This was just a wonderful book to read and it was just easy to lose yourself in the story. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
Kelton and Bernadette's story was GREAT! This story is everything that I wanted from this series. trong personalities, passion, love and getting to know each other!
Kelton is strong Dragon King and is not looking for a mate, but... what if fate has other plans? This story will show both of MCs that nothing is what it seems, and sometimes you just have to jump into the water!
I NEED MORE! Ms. Grant in her best shape!
With such an overwhelming number of 5 star reviews already, I had a hard time giving this book only 2. But I honestly only thought it was okay. Which is really kind of sad considering how good some of the previous ones were. This is book 16 in the series (not counting all the novellas), and at this point, people should not be jumping into it here. So giving almost 30% of this book to nothing but retelling all of the dragon's history again was beyond tedious. I know. I've been reading about it for almost 20 books now. We maybe get around 7% of some real action and a great story, and that was near the end. I was also really bored with Keltan and Bernadette as a couple. We're told of how pure and beautiful their love is, but I really didn't see it. And by the end I didn't even want to read either of their points of view because all they each could think about was going back to the other. And Keltan was the middle of a fucking war!! Ugh. Yeah, I'd like a man who thought about me so much, but he shouldn't be such damn sap about it.
Usaeil is up to her usual scheming again and this time she's using Bernadette. Since meeting Usaeil and being shown "proof" of dragons, Bernadette has given up the life she worked so hard for in order to do research and to try and convince others that Dreagon is truly home to dragons. She has indeed done her homework well and of course has come to the attention of the Kings. >>As a side note, after what her proof is is mentioned, we never hear about it again. I'd really have liked her to say something the Kings and see if it was real or not.<<
Keltan is sent to attend one of Bernadette's lectures in order to find out what she knows and what could possibly be her proof. What he hears has him very worried, but he still doesn't know what her proof could be. Keltan is man enough to admit that he finds Bernadette attractive, but he has been against finding a mate for a very long time and doesn't want it to ever happen to him. Too bad he can't help but want to keep Bernadette at Dreagon when she shows up the next day.
It's taken a year, but Bernadette has finally figured out that Usaeil has been using her and now she wants the real truth. Where better to get it than where the dragons are? She's surprised at how easily they let her in and actually tell her their story. Even after she figures out why, she's still okay with it. Doesn't hurt that she feels completely at ease when she's with Keltan. But Usaeil is not done with her yet, and the longer she stays at Dreagon the sicker she gets. It doesn't take long to learn what Usaeil has done to her either. And she's not even finished.
Aside from Keltan and Bernadette's boring romance, we get VERY little of anything else. Everyone is gearing up for the confrontation against the light. Even though Erith will not let them fight, even her Reapers want to take part. But the most frustrating thing was Con. There were times it was hard to tell if he was there willingly or not. For being such an important part of this whole thing, Rhi was glaringly absent for so much of this story.
As for this epic battle against Usaeil, I was very disappointed. How many books have we been leading up to this? How long has this been building and building and building? And that's how it ends? Really? Maybe I just expected more, but I thought it would have been way more exciting than this. Though there was one thing that shocked me. Something that might have an okay outcome maybe in the future.
At the end we're left to worry a lot about Rhi. She won't listen to anybody and has seemingly stopped fighting the darkness. Which won't be a good thing for anybody. We also find out that Bernadette is probably some special snowflake and that just really pissed me off. I hate that cliche. We are introduced to somebody new, who going forward I believe will be important. Especially where Henry is concerned.
So while this one was definitely not one of my favorites in this series, I'm still looking forward to the next. And like many others I've noticed, I'm hoping we get our conclusion sooner rather than later. Because really, how long can this go on and how many new people are we supposed to remember?
What Did I Like About This Book?
I really enjoy the way that Ms Grant tells her stories; the pace her plots develop, the characters she introduces us to and the fantasy world she creates. Although I haven’t read this series from the beginning, I have quickly become captivated and engaged in the adventures Ms Grant has taken us on.
I enjoyed the thriller aspect of this story and the way that all of the characters were working together to try and solve it. I appreciated the various twists, turns, subterfuge and surprises that Ms Grant weaved into this paranormal romance story, not only with Keltan and Bernadette’s romance but within the other plot lines too.
I liked that there were a few storylines running alongside the relationship and romance between our main couple, Keltan and Bernadette; the disappearance of Con, the King of all the Dragon Kings, the escalated threat from Usaeil (The Queen of the Light Fae) both to Bernadette personally and the rest of the characters, plus the continuing mystery and threat from The Others – who are they, how will they strike next and what can the Dragon Kings do to protect themselves and vanquish them.
What I really like about this series, is that we have different sorts of bad guys here; downright evil sods, misunderstood rogues, friends turned into enemies and bad-turned-good heroes. I love that, it keeps us readers on our toes and is an indication of a talented writer; I appreciate an author who writes multidimensional characters that aren’t good or bad but a multitude of greys.
And while we’re talking about characters, those of you who have read my reviews before will know that I definitely enjoy a story more deeply if the female protagonist is intelligent, resilient and has plenty of gumption; I wasn’t disappointed here, Bernadette was all of these and more and I was completely engaged in her story.
Fever gave me all the feels that I’m looking for; it made me chuckle out loud, wipe the odd tear from my eyes, had me on the edge of my seat with tension and gave me yummy flutters of arousal; in short – I was hooked from the first page to the last.
Ummm, Was There Anything That I Didn't Like?
As you can tell by my rating, I really enjoyed this book but there were a few things that took the shine off for me.
Although I have read a few of the previous books in this well established series, I didn’t feel as though I got to know Keltan as well as I did Bernadette; existing long term fans will probably have a better handle on Keltan’s personality and the reasons behind why he thinks and acts the way he does.
Ms Grant does a good job of giving the relevant information within these pages about past events but I should warn newbie readers that a lot has happened in this series up until this point – a heck of a lot – and I feel that we miss something, a connection perhaps, that existing fans would have built up.
Fever is a book that ties up and concludes a couple of ongoing story threads while also progressing other existing storylines.
So, Basically What I'm Saying Is...
I really enjoyed this book. It’s got everything that I’m looking for in a great story; action, romance, passion, humour and enough titillation to keep me blushing on the bus. I couldn’t stop reading!
Due to some of the darker references, violence and sexual content, I’d recommend this book to adults who are not offended by scenes of this nature who are fans of relationship and romance stories with oodles of fire and passion.
Kelton does not want a mate, and every one knows it. He's happy everyone else has found someone, but it's not for him. So he's an obvious choice to send to a lecture held by Bernadette that's all about dragons, and she has proof. This is obviously the last thing they need with Con missing, Rhi about to go after him alone and The Others. Not to mention a handful of unwed Mates. It's a mess and he refuses to let himself feel more for her than some fleeting passion. Not spoilers from me, but you won't want to miss it! I found it a little slow in the beginning, but it does pick up and then really picks up speed, like warp speed. So many things going on, little drops of that good, good information that we love to gather and ends in an explosive way. I kind of feel title all. Definitely some action, some tears and as always a happy ending with that touch of melancholy that comes with a happy for now before our world implodes ! Love it and can't wait for the next one!
Fever is the sixteenth book in the Dark Kings series by Donna Grant. This series is part of the Dark World Universe. It provides a deeper insight into the world of the Dragon Kings. While some of the characters from the Dark Sword and Dark Warriors series do make appearances in this book, the focus is on illuminating a new mythos and relationships. We were introduced to this world with the Dark sword series, which continued with the Dark Warriors series and gave way to the Dark Kings series. In this book, Rhi’s long-awaited showdown with the Light Fae Queen, Usaeil finally takes place, and many new enemies await the victor.
This book introduces Bernadette Davies, who is an anthropologist – a cryptozoologist, to be precise. She's very intelligent but has been duped by Usaeil into publicizing the fact that Dragon Kings exist and bringing the scrutiny of the world at their doorstep.
Keltan is the citrines Dragon King, who holds power to use shadows to drain another’s energy. Like the other Dragon Kings he too is sworn to protect all mortals-even though they no longer believe in dragons.
Together, Keltan and Bernadette work to halt Usaeil’s nefarious schemes and prevent exposure to the human world. At the same time, the battle with the mysterious others is drawing closer, and Con and the other kings have their work cut out for them. This book is truly spellbinding and a must-read.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC
