The Dragon Kings is one of my all time favourite paranormal romance series and I have loved each and everyone that I have read.”Fever” was also enjoyable and a great addition to the series. However, I didn’t feel as if was as amazing as the previous novels. It started out fine and I was immediately engaged. Our favourite villainess, Usaeil, is one of the stars of this book and like always, she doesn’t disappoint with the lengths she’s willing to go to be the most powerful being in the realm and to have Constantine at her side while she’s doing it.
This story stars Bernadette and Keltan. Bernadette is on a mission to uncover the truth about dragons. She may seem like a lunatic to most, but the Dragon Kings know that she’s on to something and decide to send Keltan to keep an eye on her. And so our story begins.
I have to admit that even though I enjoyed the premise of the story, I felt that the usual heat and chemistry that we’re used to finding in the series was lacking. At times, the book felt more like a recap of the series than a romance novel. And even though there are some major events in the book, I wish that we could have had more of a buildup where Bernadette and Keltan’s romance was concerned.
I believe that we are nearing the end of the series and even though I have my suspicions as to who Rhi’s mysterious dragon king is, his identity isn’t revealed. I can’t wait for the next instalment of the series and hope to find out the identity of the King who stole the fae’s heart!!!
I received a free advanced reader copy of this book via NetGalley. Unfortunately, I did not read the previous books in this particular series and found it difficult to read as a stand-alone book. However, I enjoyed the hints of romance within the storyline. I also like Donna Grant’s style of writing and found this book to be no exception to the writing that Donna provides for her readers! Recommended to fellow readers that have already started this particular series or those who want to get into the series starting in order.
Finally yes finally this series moves forward and the person we have all wanted to step up and shine does . Yes I know this book is about Kelton and Bernadette but honestly for this reader it’s as much about Rhi and her Dragon King ( who is glaringly obvious !) because they are the couple I really want to read about. Still in order for all that to happen Kelton has to meet Bernadette so what can I say about that ?
Kelton is the Dragon King who has never wanted a Mate of his own and yes he’s happy for those Kings who have found love but honestly he sees it as a weakness. When he’s sent to find out if a newsworthy anthropologist has any proof that Dragons are real he gets an awful shock because not only is Bernadette stunning but she’s connected the dots about recent events involving the Kings living at Dreagan !
Bernadette doesn’t quite know why but she has a driving passion to research and expose the truth about the Dragons. Meeting Kelton just solidifies everything she’s been told because yes Bernadette has had insider information from someone who is an enemy of the Dragon Kings. Bernadette is drawn to Dreagan and and there she finds not only answers but something more important, she finds that she can trust Kelton . The attraction is mutual but Bernadette is in danger from the very person who has been drip feeding her information .
Fans of this series have been impatiently waiting for the Light Fae Queen to finally show her true colours because we all know Usaeil should really be called Ubitch ! We have been tantalised with snippets of what happened between Rhi and her Dragon King and even steered slightly in the wrong direction with Balladyn . Now with Bernadette playing into the Queens hands it all goes down with an epic battle . I did feel that perhaps too much was rehashed as Kelton brought Bernadette up to speed but that’s a minor niggle . This book sees the end of an era but leaves the reader wondering what will happen next because the events that take place leave the Fae in chaos but surely from chaos a new order will rise !
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
This is another great book in the Dark King Series by Donna Grant. I loved reading Kelton and Bernadette's story and the plot moved the entire story arc in this series another step closer to the end. This book will be enjoyed most if you have read at least some of the previous 15 stories but can be read alone.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
What an awesome book! So cleverly built into a crescendo of action. A tale filled with obsession, secrets, betrayal, love and misery. A story where the dark aren't evil but the light is. I was enthralled from the start.
The Dragon Kings are back and facing a serious threat of exposure by way of Dr. Bernadette Davies. Bernadette is being influenced by Usail, Queen of the Light Fae, to reveal the existence of the dragons to the world. Kelton steps in to find out exactly what Bernadette knows and how much of a threat she really poses.
I have been loving this entire series so far. This installment was another very exciting read. The action is fast and not entirely predictable, there was some interesting twists at the end. I was very much engaged in the story and the battle at the end.
Bernadette didn’t have a forceful presence, for me. She felt a bit superfluous to the story. Usail used her to spread the word about the dragons, but apart from one public meeting and some ideas thrown around by Bernadette, she never did anything more damaging before Kelton lured her to the dragons’ side. She was also a handy distraction for Kelton and the other dragons. The ending hinted at there being more to her than meets the eye, but we don’t know what yet.
Kelton was the usual hot, but reluctant hero. He didn’t really stand out from the other kings. Their romantic story was pretty good, and I was happy that they got together. But the rest of the conflict and the roles that Usail, Con, and Rhi played were much more interesting here.
I received an advanced copy of the book from Netgalley to review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Fever is not a stand-alone novel. The tensions and build-up from the previous books in this series have finally come to a head! The romance between Kelton and Bernadette is hot and heavy, plus they are actively involved in events to come. In addition to those two, the main players in Fever include Usaeil, Ulrik, the Kings, Rhi, Con, Balladyn and Henry. The Others have a part to play, but mostly in the background. There is a new character introduced - Melisse - and the epilogue hints at the role she will play in upcoming events. Let the battle begin; read how it plays out.
Another masterful novel by Donna Grant, one of my favorite authors. Her Dark World is a fantastically creative paranormal romance series with its ongoing pursuit of good versus evil.
A big thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin s Press for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is number 16 in a series. I think it best to have read at least a few of the others are be frustrated. I have read a couple and was still overwhelmed with the plots and characters. The main story is a romance between Bernadette and Kelton. I liked them both but the rest was.just over the top for me. It seemed very distracting but that is just me. I know there are thousands of readers that will love this. Just don't choose this one as a starting point please. It will be frustrating. This is not to say that it can't be done just be prepared. 3 stars.
This was awesome! I loved every bit of it. This was sexy and full of paranormal goodness. I love Donna's books and I'm so happy I got this one. Definitely can't wait to read more!
ARC Provided by Netgalley. While I didn’t find Bernadette and Keltan’s story very interesting the showdown with Usaeil was great. I’m interested to see what is in store for Henry and as always looking forward to Rhi and Constantine getting their stories. Rhi breaks my heart and I just want to shake Con and make him finally break down. Can’t wait until the next installment.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the e-ARC to read and review.
Just when I thought this series couldn't get better it does. "Fever" is surprisingly thought-provoking and tantalizingly sweet. A real page-turner.
What's interesting about this book is that one of the MCs is "threatening" to expose the Kings to humans based on evidence from previous novel. I loved that tie-in because a major battle had been brewing and Bernadette's character is basically the vehicle that finally sets major plot points in motion.
The book goes on further in providing the most crucial and alluring backstory I have ever read; I was on the edge of my seat and couldn't tear my eyes from the page. The internal and external conflicts of the MCs seemed to have the power to make or break things.
Keltan certainly is the most interesting among PNR MC couples that I've read about. He stands out because of the rational place his present mentality stems from. I think that uniqueness in mindset is what makes his character so special. Also, I love his name and any time he talks.
I love how intelligent and open Bernadette is to something so different and sees things from all sides. She, like Keltan, is very rational and she provides much input into what's going on. While she may not be as active you can tell from the beginning that she's not like others and would have a critical role to play. She is without a doubt the perfect mate for Keltan; they are always on the same page.
What's good about this series is that while I've only read a few books of Grant's I don't feel like I missed out of the overall story arc. I could fully read this as a standalone. The only things you'd miss reading this out of order or what-have-you is each couple's relationship coming together. I very much would like to go back a read about certain couples. Everyone is so lovely.
There's far more to the story than the summary tells. It serves a huge purpose in something greater than itself and I cannot wait to see where the story goes next.
Loved reading the amazing and engaging sixteenth book in the Dark Kings series. Even though Bernadette is being strongly urged from Usaeil, the evil queen, to bring to light that Dragons exist, she meets, Kelton, a Dragon King, and both Bernadette and Kelton's relationship continues. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written, riveting, and captivating must read love story of two people finding each other in the midst of a war.
I reviewed a copy of the book through NetGalley.
Y'all, I really enjoyed reading "Fever" by Donna Grant. And wouldja look at the cover...
Kelton offs one of the Dragon Kings. He's a dragon shifter of you hadn't guessed. He has a strong moral compass always pointing north. Kinda like a dragon boy scout. Bernadette has 'discovered' dragons and magical kind. She's in trouble, he wants to save her and they fall in love bada bing. Except not so simple... There's always gotta be haters.
Keltan is the Dragon King of the Citrines. He has no interest in finding his mate. Keltan attends a special meeting for cryptozoologists as a representative of Dreagan. When the guest speaker threatens to expose the Dragon King’s existence, Keltan knows he must take action. However, he never expected to be attracted to the intriguing doctor. The war with the Queen of the Light Fae looms. Can Keltan convince Bernadette not to expose his brethren? Will he finally admit that she is his mate? Or will it be too late?
Dr. Bernadette Davies is an anthropologist. She throws away her career and reputation to convince the world that dragons exist. Bernadette expects someone from Dreagan to intercept her, yet she never imagines she would be drawn to him. When she learns that Usaeil used her, Bernadette soon finds herself drawn into the war between the Light Fae and Dragon Kings. What part will Bernadette play in the upcoming confrontation with Usaeil? Will she survive the encounter?
Keltan steadily grew on me. I like that he is the only Dragon King I can remember with a beard. I am not into men with facial hair, but it is a nice change of pace than the usual clean-shaven appearance. I understand Keltan’s reluctance in finding his mate. He has seen the destruction that humans have caused over the years, especially to his kind. What I adore the most about Keltan is how he balked at the idea of besmirching Bernadette’s reputation. He understands it’s necessary to stop her from exposing them to public scrutiny, but it did not mean the idea sat well with him.
It took me a while to warm up to Bernadette. She came across a little too bland and timid for my tastes. I would have liked her more if she had a fraction of the spunk that Bernadette from The Big Bang Theory television series had. I admire that Bernadette did not expect the Dragon Kings to immediately believe her. She knows that trust is earned, and she did not give the Dragon Kings reason enough to put their faith in her. What I like the most about Bernadette is her sense of right and wrong. After she realized her error, she strives to fix all the wrongs she committed against the Dragon Kings.
FEVER is book sixteen in Donna Grant’s popular paranormal series, DRAGON KINGS. It is necessary to read the prior books to understand everything that is happening in the story’s background. I love the little hint the author gave to why the Druid population is declining. Also, the author divulges a little more information about the enigmatic others.
FEVER is beautiful tale of two wary souls discovering love during a tumultuous time. Things with Usaeil are finally coming to a conclusion. However, that does not mean the threats against the Dragon Kings are resolved. I cannot wait to find out what happens next.
As always Ms. Grant did it once again, not that I am surprised. I just needed to reiterate how this awesome world of Dark Kings really is. I love all her paranormal series and how they seem to connect. This is book sixteen and the story of Kelton and Dr. Bernadette Davies who is an Anthropologist. Many questions are answered, but new ones arise.
Kelton is asked to attend the talk Bernadette is giving on Dragons, and if they are real. She has made it her personal mission to expose them to the world. The talk is well received by many and at once Kelton contacts his breathen. After a brief encounter between them, Bernadette is unsettled. Her source who has encouraged her to reveal what she's learned about dragons awaits. Learning her source is not happy with the chance meeting or her progress. Visiting Dreagan she learns more than she had dreamed possible. As well as dealing with her growing attraction for Kelton. Who also must deal with his own feelings, after years of not wanting a mate.
At last the explosive battle happens between the light and the dark. Some questions were answered, losses were felt. This book lived up to my expectations and more. Ms. Grant left me wanting more and so I await anxiously until the next book for more.
5 stars
Omg!
I don’t know what to say about this book as I don’t want to spoil anything, I can say you will be gripped and on the edge of your seat. Family members will be ignored and glared at for daring to interrupt the flow this is the best one yet readers.
The story was as always full of twists and turns clues and answers it was a really enjoyable read. Everything is coming together all the intricate storylines are being unravelled.
There was steam and romance and my favourite fae poor Rhi I can’t wait for her to get her happy ending she has been through so much.
I can’t wait for the next book!
I enjoyed my visit to this world.

Kindly Provided with an ARC via Netgalley in Exchange for an Honest Review......
Book 16 and still going strong !!!
Genuinely this series is AWESOME !!! Its Bernadette and Keltan's story. Lets just say even though I have MEGA mixed feelings about our leading lady Bernadette.......Donna does her justice and I can eventually calm my snarling at my kindle about Bernadette and actually just sit back and enjoy our leading pairs tale.
In my opinion you would be best to read the books prior as it just enriches the world of these delicious Dragon's . Plus they are amazing do no hardship. That being said Donna does such a stellar job you could just jump in if you really felt the need to do so !!! Either way I have never been disappointed and I dare say I don't think any reader who is a lover of a fabulously written paranormal romance would be upset by getting addicted to this series !!!
A MASSIVE job well done Donna !! 5 DARK KINGS RULE !!! From me x
Many thanks for this opportunity xx
