A brilliant resource for those considering adoption - it was geared towards an American audience but I still enjoyed reading all about the process.

This was a good beginner's resource when it comes to the subject of adoption or care in any form for "the least of these". From a Christian worldview, it references the Bible's call to care for widows and orphans and even "the least of these", which includes those unable to care for themselves for any reason. This book mentioned foster care, adoption (both within the country and inter-country), refugee care, and Safe Families for Children. Each chapter included examples, checklists (questions to ask yourself), and prayers about how you can be involved in each subject. While I feel like this is a good resource, it is definitely not comprehensive. The examples offered were very brief and included only a basic overview. Personally, i would have preferred to see fewer examples with greater depth as I don't feel like the examples truly showed the full story. I did appreciate that the authors recommended several other resources in the 3rd appendix, so anyone checking this out could possibly get greater depth elsewhere. While I would recommend this as a "first stop" in your journey, I would definitely also recommend something that goes in greater depth on the care you're looking to provide. Special thanks to NetGalley for an e-copy of this book. I was not required to write a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.

Having been interested in foster care and adoption for sometime I was excited to read this book and I was not disappointed. The book is a book that should be read by every believer as it outlines that we are all called to care for vulnerable children in one way or another. It is practical, outlining the different forms of care, fostering and adoption. There are lots of case studies, not all are happy endings which I feel is excellent as sometimes I feel that with the drive to get more Christians involved in the care system sometimes everything is sugar coated and having first hand experience of foster care this is not always the care. Read this book-you will be challenged and inspired!

Recently my husband and I have been talking about opening up our home and becoming foster parents. We know it's not an easy task to do and it takes someone with a huge heart to do this. But we know that we have been called by God to do so in the long run. This book has not only allowed us to think and pray about this decision but we know it's what we were meant to do in our lives. This book is great and is the perfect step to read to make sure you are ready to become a foster parent. It takes a lot to become a foster parent to the children, but know that you will be the right one for them. I highly suggest this book for those who have ever thought about becoming a Foster Parent. It's one decision that will change your lives forever but the rewards are so much better!

I don't normally read nonfiction books to review, just to learn from, but when I saw a book about adoption, I requested to review it immediately! I'm so glad I did because, I have had several friends who were adopted and I am very interested in adopting. Called to Care by Bill Blacquiere and Kris Faasse wasn't exactly what I thought it would be. I thought it was all about adoption, and it did have much information about adoption. It shared challenges that can be a part of adoption as well as encouragement for those trying to adopt. But it didn't stop at adoption; it also gave many other ways besides adoption and foster care that Christians can follow the biblical commandment to take care of those who many forget about. Whether helping refugees, mentoring someone, or helping behind the scenes to support others who are doing these things, the book gives many practical ways for anyone to get involved. It also suggests ways that a church can help its members who are adopting, helping refugees, mentoring someone, etc. I would recommend this book to anyone who is thinking about getting involved or already is involved with helping others. I would also recommend this book to anyone who knows someone who is adopting or becoming foster care parents, since it will give one practical ideas to be able to help them.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Bethany House through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
