Description

More and more individuals, families, and churches are seeking ways they can respond to the biblical mandate to care for "the least of these." The desire to help children coming from difficult situations is a necessary starting point, but what comes next? You need to know the steps for getting involved and what will truly help.

Filled with real-life stories and practical advice, Called to Care starts by helping you honestly assess your motivation to help--sometimes the wrong motivation sets the stage for an unsuccessful experience. From there, the book shows what adoption and foster care really look like in a variety of situations, from domestic and international adoptions to short-term foster care and foster-to-adopt arrangements. Also included is how churches and individuals can minister to refugees. Rounding out this comprehensive yet concise book are tips for assessing your preparedness, how to meet common emotional and physical challenges, and the most effective ways to help families stay together and thrive.

Bethany is a global nonprofit that supports children and families with world-class social services, all designed to help families thrive.  We believe every child deserves to be loved, connected, and empowered through family.

Recently my husband and I have been talking about opening up our home and becoming foster parents. We know it's not an easy task to do and it takes someone with a huge heart to do this. But we know that we have been called by God to do so in the long run. This book has not only allowed us to think and pray about this decision but we know it's what we were meant to do in our lives. This book is great and is the perfect step to read to make sure you are ready to become a foster parent. It takes a lot to become a foster parent to the children, but know that you will be the right one for them. I highly suggest this book for those who have ever thought about becoming a Foster Parent. It's one decision that will change your lives forever but the rewards are so much better!

Having been interested in foster care and adoption for sometime I was excited to read this book and I was not disappointed. The book is a book that should be read by every believer as it outlines that we are all called to care for vulnerable children in one way or another. It is practical, outlining the different forms of care, fostering and adoption. There are lots of case studies, not all are happy endings which I feel is excellent as sometimes I feel that with the drive to get more Christians involved in the care system sometimes everything is sugar coated and having first hand experience of foster care this is not always the care. Read this book-you will be challenged and inspired!

A brilliant resource for those considering adoption - it was geared towards an American audience but I still enjoyed reading all about the process.
