I have heard very good things about a Mediterranean diet and how good the food is for healthy living so I was glad to receive a copy of this cookbook. I enjoyed reading about the various health benefits and was thrilled that there were so many delicious looking recipes available.
This was a very well written cookbook. I found the layout to flow well and the recipes were easy to understand and follow along to. I look forward to trying some of them out for my family.
Mixed feelings on this one. On the one hand I liked the look of a lot of the recipes themselves, and the idea behind the Mediterranean diet is more appealing than many others. I didn't like the repetition in the weekly menus. I mean, know we all have leftovers, but that was really unappealing to me. Also I tend,to like more photos in a cookbook. And while I do think this is an easier, user friendly diet plan, with two kids this wouldn't fit into my lifestyle.
I love this cookbook. The recipes are simple and delicious. The meal plan are a breeze with easy to purchase products that you don’t have to hunt all over town or go to specialty shops for. This also has a tons of information if your a beginner and walks you through this diet the information provided gives you a very good understanding of this meal plan. I highly recommend this book if your interested in this diet it is a fantastic resource. I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review.

I was given a free copy of this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I have pretty much tried every diet out there. I've given up carbs, fasted, given up fat, and restricted my calories. I'm still overweight and looking for balance. After reviewing this book, I am planning to start this diet. This book has great recipes. It explains the goals of the diet well. It has very exact and precise descriptions of what constitutes a serving. It has very helpful shopping lists. It is something realistic that I could stay on long term. It advocates the Mediterranean diet, which encompasses the eating habits of countries that border the Mediterranean Sea, and includes a diverse array of recipes from many of those countries.
It celebrates fruit, vegetables, olive oil, and yogurt. Beans, legumes, and nuts are allowed. Fish is eaten at least twice a week, but not limited to twice a week. Many of the recipes include chicken and fish. Red meat is limited to no more than once per week. Sugar is eliminated, but honey can be used.
The book calls for 4 - 6 servings daily of grains. This is in a time when most diets are banning grains altogether. However, they are whole grains such as brown rice, oats, and bulgar, and they make this diet seem a little more sustainable than the ones that ban grains and other carbs for the rest of your life. It also suggests low fat dairy , which I am not fond of, but I am willing to try it.
I see a lot of things that encourage me to try this diet. Bottom line is for a serial dieter like me it seems sustainable long term. If, like me, you have tried every extreme diet out there and are looking for more balance, join me in trying this diet. I will post updates as I progress.
Lots of great recipes here and not an extensive ingredient list. Even using a bunch of different spices it was all fairly common stuff. It's laid out over a multi-week plan if you really want to implement this style of eating seriously, and the author includes lots of helpful tips for making these dietary changes. I wasn't as invested in this part as in the recipes. They're very simple and straightforward -- all weeknight dinners here, which was perfect. Excited to try them!
I like to keep up with current healthy living recommendations, and I have not iced that the Mediterranean diet is strongly endorsed as the best and easiest to follow by many sources. It even tops the list at the U.S. News and World Report website. It’s healthy, convenient, easy to follow and even allows you to easily eat out and buy everything you need in most grocery stores.
Having said all that, this book is one of the best I have seen on the market. If you want information on eating this way, the author, Susan Zogheib, has provided a background on the health benefits. She has done such a thorough job of this, all you have to do is copy the ingredients you need to buy for each week, and you’re good to go. And to make it easy for you to plan your own meals, there are easy-to-follow guidelines.
The author was born in the Middle East, and grew up in a Lebanese eating Mediterranean food. That’s another selling point for me. This is definitely a book worth adding to your cookbook shelf.
Mediterranean Diet explained.
My doctor has said I must loose weight. So after having flirted around the "doing of" for some moons, and putting my repeat doctor's visit back by a month when I realized I'd procrastinated for far too long, I knuckled down to just getting on with it.
I've flirted with 5:2, with Intermittent Fasting and lastly this, the Mediterranean diet. "What a timely opportunity," I thought when this book came to my attention.
The book does explain exactly and succinctly what the Mediterranean Diet is.
It has a good list of meals, weekly menu plans, what to buy etc. Great, especially for those of us who just want the best help with the least amount of list making.
It gives calories for all meals, which actually suits the way I work. So that was an important plus.
(A couple of problems though, I cannot with a clear conscience use almond milk due to the amount of water it takes to produce one gallon, and I loathe quinoa.
Still these problems are surmountable. Just substitute!)
What I found hard was the book's overall presentation. I guess what I really would have liked is some sort of pictorial steps of the recipe how to's, or at the very least, an attractive presentation of each of the dishes. I know that sort of production pushes up costs. However, for me the aesthetic quality of the book just didn't carry enough weight. I found myself turning off and just glancing at the recipes rather than being anywhere near fully engaged.

Meal plan along with shopping lists and do aheads. How much more simplified and autopilot can it get? They are very detailed.
