I feel like so much potential could have been harnessed here and the author missed out on a great opportunity. I personally didn't care for the graphics, this wasn't something i would expect for an adult audience. Quite honestly the look and appeal felt like it was meant for children. The font was very difficult on the eyes, I found that i was constantly straining to read text and it started to frustrate me. Which is the opposite of what this is supposed to do.
It felt like there was a lot of things missing here. In particular guidance. I didn't like the language and the way some of the questions were phrased. When you approach this from a very simplistic view, some people may not even know where to gain the insight or knowledge to answer some of these questions. I feel like this needed an in-depth companion book or a personal coach to explain how to answer some of these questions. For example not everyone is going to know or even understand what it means to feel emotions in certain body parts. Many of these exercises need deeper support and understanding. Many people don't know how to tap into the these areas without guidance and proper explanations.
As a Spiritual and Self Empowerment Coach, I see an incredible benefit to journaling and discovering ones blocks and how to overcome them. I was initially excited and had high exceptions of this journal. I was hoping that this was something I would be able to recommend to my clients as self guided independent exercises. I think this journal had a lot of potential that was missed out on. I would have loved to see better examples, explanations and descriptions to give the person journaling a clearer understanding. I hope others have a better experience than I did and find it beneficial to their needs.
Thank you Netgalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
This book would be a nice gift for someone who is seeking self-knowledge, including you if this is something that appeals. The Magic of Mindset is a guided journal with room for reflection and your own thoughts. For example, you may be prompted to think about somewhere that you feel stuck or talking to your future self about a way that you would like to succeed. There are also many affirmations and words of encouragement.
There are undoubtedly other guided journals out there but there may not be one as gorgeous as this. The artwork is so beautiful!
Of note: This title could also be a resource that a therapist and patient/client could talk about together.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title in exchange for an honest review.
You get some prompts and questions to look at and really look at them and see what you want to get out of it. The illustrations are pretty nice and very thought out.
The Magic of Mindset by Johanna Wright has helpful prompts for journaling to get unstuck. I liked the illustrations, and the prompts were all good questions. Some of the cursive words were hard to read.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a great journal for self-reflection and goal setting. It would be a wonderful holiday gift and a great way to start a new year. The illustrations were beautiful, the questions just probing enough. It's a good start in taking a deep-dive into who you are and what you believe about yourself.
A cute book with interesting idea and amazing illustration.
I'd like to have in paper and use it as diary.
Highly recommended!
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
What a lovely and engaging book this is. Not sure what to expect from the cover and title but found it to be a little gem. Will definitely be looking to purchase this in hardback when its out. Loved the simplicity of it but also the awareness it provokes. A great book for children, teens and adults alike.
Any book that helps to bring awareness to things that need an element of attention is a winner for me. Beautiful artwork that helps and supports the flow of the journal.
Highly recommended.
Thank you Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley.
The authors drawings are beautiful. I enjoyed the prompts in this journal, they were very thought provoking. Some of the handwriting (especially the words in cursive) were a little hard to read. Overall I really enjoyed this book. I hope it does well!
Can I start by saying how absolutely beautiful the book is?
The graphics are amazing. They are so calming, I wish I had this in hardcover instead of a digital copy.
The journal itself is very well constructed. The questions are illuminating and great prompts to start thinking.
I love it when books allow me to move ahead in my life and this one is doing just that.
Definitely recommended.
I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley
Adorable and surprisingly touching.
This book will definitely appeal to dot journalists and other list-minded creatives. I could not spend enough time looking at the illustrations, which were so vibrant with colors. I found the exercises overall to be thought provoking and not too twee, which is sometimes a problem with books like this.
Completing this journal definitely won't fix everything in your life, but it could definitely give you a place to start.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this precious book. I love love love the visual aspect of it and I think it would make a beautiful present for a struggling loved one ( even if that it’s yourself at the moment ). Definitely see myself picking this up on a rough day to remind me that my problems are only as big as I let them be. ( also I’m living for the motivational snakes ).
The book sounds awesome! Unfortunately, I couldn't even open this on my computer. And opening on the computer wouldn't make it pleasant to read. I'd prefer if it were available for ebook readers. It might be a nice paperback. Well, good luck.
Okay so, I would seriously buy this journal just for the visuals alone. I am a sucker for pretty things! The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous! They make my soul feel warm and fuzzy. There is a special energy inside these pages which I can only imagine must be 100x stronger with the real thing, I really wish this book was available for purchase right now! Not all of the questions resonated with me personally and I'm not sure if I'd ever actually write in this book and use it for that purpose, but I approve of the overall message it is trying to send. This journal is for those who aren't afraid to face their true selves.
