Oh my goodness, this book was so adorable!! I was so excited to read another book by Erin Hahn. I loved that this book was about music. I didn’t know all the songs mentioned, but it was fun to look them up while reading.
This was such a fun book, and it had great characters. I loved Luke and Vada, and the side characters were great as well. I really enjoyed that the book was told from dual POVs. This was a heartwarming friends to lovers romance. You will be smiling the whole time you are reading this one! I think this book would be great if it was made into a movie. If you’re a fan of YA romance, I recommend checking this one out!
Thank you Netgalley for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
I started More Than Maybe after another read, thinking it’d be a DNF for me because I just wasn’t feeling it at first.
The alternating chapters made it very fun, which I don’t generally like since sometimes it’s not done well. Characters that have their own chapters but then overlap with the other MC just doesn’t work for me.
I really liked Luke immediately, and the family dynamic of Vada. Phil was one hell of a side character who completely took the show. He’s everything you want to see in a father figure even if he’s not Vada’s father.
This is a book with the love of music, total nerdiness, and a naturally built romance that isn’t insta-love but fits the “we’ve had a crush on each other for years and never told each other” trope.
Unfortuneately I just didn't mesh with this book and decided to DNF it.
I just wans't for me, which is unfortunate because I really wanted to love it.
I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher. This in no way impacted on my view.
Growing up in the spotlight was always going to be hard, but for introvert Luke Greenly, it's doubly so. He's never wanted the fame that comes with being the son of former punk rocker, Charlie Greenly, but luckily he has his twin brother, Cullen to rely on. Luke is more than happy to be behind the scenes, part of a double act on his podcast, and secretly writing and creating music in his bedroom. No one else knows about that, nor do they know just how far his feelings go for music blogger, Vada. Vada has had a difficult childhood, with a father who would rather drink himself stupid in the bar she works at with her pseudo-step father, Phil, than remember that he has an 18 year old daughter. She wants to cultivate her connections through the bar to her writing, and hopefully be able to go to college in California, before becoming a music reported for Rolling Stone. Part of her five year plan is to get Phil and her mam to trust her to take on a managerial role in the bar, and even close up a few times, and part of her new responsibilities is to oversee the Greenly brother's using the sound booth to create their podcast. Working with Luke a lot more, especially when he starts working in the bar, they both realise that the feelings they've been hiding from one another are reciprocated, but when a secret recording of Luke singing his own song is released, will the pressure become too much?
Now, I've been putting off this book for a while, and honestly, I don't really know why. I loved Erin's debut release, and couldn't wait to read More Than Maybe but every time I've tried in the past, since been approved for the eARC, I wasn't in the right mood or whatnot. Well, during my Easter holidays, I decided to read it again, and I don't know what it was, but as soon as I loaded it up on my phone, I couldn't put it down, and devoured the entire book in just a few short hours. It was perfect! The characters, from Vada and Luke, to Phil and Vada's mam, Mary, to Cullen, Zack, Meg, and everyone else who was part of the story, were so well fleshed out, and had their own history and back stories. I loved the romance between Vada and Luke, but even more so was the plot line away from their relationship. Both had plans for the future, and though some people in their lives - namely, their fathers - didn't wholly approve of them, they wanted what was right for themselves. For Vada, that's writing for music publications, and continuing the hard work she had already started, whereas Luke wanted to be involved in music, but through writing and composing, not actually being on the stage. They complimented each other so much, and I loved seeing them both grow through their own eyes, and each others. They secret collaboration for the end of term showcase was a nice addition too, and we saw them go from neigh on strangers, to friends, to more, really quickly through they mutual love of music.
The backwards and forwards of sending music playlists to each other, and the sheer amount of pining and wanting between Luke and Vada made me want to squeal at times. They were the cutest, and, to be honest, the book was full of fluff and honest to god, adorable relationships. First there's the established relationships between Luke's parents and his brother Cullen, and best friend, Zack. Cullen and Zack were the sweetest couple, and I definitely agreed with what was said in the book that they were made for each other. Both of them were so invested in each other, and they wanted the best for their brother/best friend, and were perfect wingmen to Luke when he was trying to understand his feelings for Vada. Then there's Mary and Phil, who just deserved each other, and were so right for each other, and what Vada needed. After having such a deadbeat father in Marcus, having Phil there as another father figure, who actually loved and cared for Vada how she should be, and wanted to raise her up and bolster her dreams and ambitions, was more than we could've asked for. I was so unbelievably pleased with how the book ended, and everyone had the happy ending they wanted. The only thing I could've wanted more, was seeing if Meg had finally told her mam she wanted a gap year, but I think that would be me nit picking. Seriously, this book was perfect, and I am dying to read Never Saw You Coming!
If I had a bit more money I would have purchased this book for the library this year but it didn't quite make the cut. It is fun and has depth. It does feel a but cookie cutterish but still a good read. Maybe I will get it later on for the library.
This was a DNF for me, unfortunately. This is completely subjective, but I just didn’t mesh well with the characters. It could have just been by mood at the moment, but it just wasn’t the book for me. I still think it could be a fun book that others may enjoy!
This book has been on my tbr for a while and I don’t know why it took me so long to pick it up but I’m so glad I finally did! I knew a few chapters in when Luke & Cullen played Kiss, Merry, Kill with Stiles, Derek, and Scott from Teen Wolf (the correct answer to this is Kiss Derek, Merry Stiles, Kill Scott and I can’t be convinced otherwise 🤷🏻♀️) that this was the book for me. One of my favorite things about this book was the music was so entwined with the plot and how important it was to the story and the characters lives. If you know me, you know music and concerts are my lifeblood so I knew the way characters felt. I loved listening to the songs that Vada & Luke sent to each other throughout the book, it really immersed me into their relationship. I really loved them individually and together, they had me smiling giddily throughout the last half of the book because they’re just so cute. 🥰 I also just really enjoyed how well-developed the characters were. Each character had a purpose and it made it really easy to understand them and get to know them as your read. Lastly, all I know after reading this book is that from the pang in my heart any time they were at a concert or Vada talked about shows, I cannot wait for the world to open back up and to be able to feel the pure joy of being in the middle of a crowd, screaming my lungs out to my favorite bands. I yearn for that feeling again and can’t wait to get back to it. ♥️ I recommend this book to anyone that feels music in their soul, adores relationships that keep you rooting for them, and ache to find the things that set their soul on fire!
A musical journey you won't forget! Luke and Vada both secretly harbor feelings for each other, so when they're paired up together for a school assignment, feelings grow between the two.
The songs they send each other tell a story of their own and bring a whole new dimension to the book. I'll definitely be making a playlist to listen to the next time I read this book.
A delightful story about chasing your dreams and stepping out of your comfort zone. I loved both of the main characters, and Cullen was a bonus treat! It took me a few pages to get hooked to the audiobook, but after that I couldn't put it down!
This has been one of my favorite books of 2020 and it made me discover a new amazing author. From now on, I'll never miss a book by Erin Hahn and.I'm SO looking forward to her next, coming in September 2021! I adored More Than Maybe, Luke and Vada, both their personalities and their swoon-worthy love story, their parents and friends, Phil... It had everything I'm looking for in a book and it was so real and emotional it made me cry of happiness in the end. I just couldn't stop reading, I had to finish it in a day. And the music references! I share the protagonists' music taste and I just loved reading about the songs they loved and how they related to them. I really could relate to that and I could read a thousand books like this. Highly, highly recommended to everyone who loves music and a sweet, heart-melting love story with the most tender and lovable cast of characters. Thank you to St. Martin's Press and the author for this amazing gifted copy!
This is a really fun read. This story of two high school students, both musical prodigies of different types, and the ups and downs of their relationship. The two main characters, Luke and Vada, are both interesting and multi-faceted, and it is fun to follow them on the the journey of the ups-and-downs of their relationship. I particularly enjoyed how the story focused on their relationship and each of their professional ambitions in equal measure. Highly recommended!
The sweetest love story with the most epic playlist! I loved this adorable book. I couldn’t put it down and I was so sad when it ended. Vada and Luke are both great characters. Thankfully, someone created a playlist on Spotify with all the songs, so the fun can continue! I’d recommend this book to other music fans.
I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Oh man! I enjoyed this wayyyyy too much. This was such a fun adorable read! I loved every minute of it.
Thank you kindly to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for this review copy.
I read Erin Hahn's debut book that came out last year and while I did enjoy it, the one knocked it out of the water, I can barely put into words how much I loved it. I was constantly swooning over the two main characters, Luke and Vada, and the super slow burn this book had. I loved how the characters jumped back and forth and what their thoughts on each other were, it was so cute!
I'm a huge music fan so when you give me a YA contemporary romance that's centered around music, I'm instantly sold. I especially loved the playlist at the end, that tied up the ending to this book perfectly.
Amazing work once again from Erin Hahn! I really hope she continues on with the romantic, music-based books.
Thank you so much to Wednesday Books and NetGalley for the complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!
I tried this book so many times and could just never get into it! I think it sounds like a good premise but I just wasn't vibing for it
This was adorable, and I don't tend to love contemporary romances! I loved all of the side characters, too, and as soon as I saw Erin Hahn's new one about Meg, I immediately requested it. Super cute. Loved it.
I was so excited about this one. I thought it sounded adorable and would just be a fun little YA romance, so I’m really upset that this one just didn’t work for me.
What I did enjoy about this book is the people surrounding Vada. I really enjoyed her mom and Phil’s relationship. It was sweet and a good balance to the drama that surrounded Vada’s dad.
While Phil and Vada’s mother’s relationship worked for me, unfortunately, Vada and Luke’s did not. There was a lack of chemistry between them that never seemed to get any better and when it is an instalove relationship that made it harder for me. But, Vada and Luke realize their are both crushing on each other and then it’s smooth sailing from there. This didn’t have the drama where you wanted to strangle them because they weren’t really listening to one another. There was simply no tension between them. Ever.
Luke as a character was not one that I clicked with. He is very teenager like about everything that is happening to him and about his family and when these characters are a little bit older (and I know that people will still act like this) it felt odd to see.
This one is all me and part of the reason why this book really isn’t for me, but there were so many music references. I grew up without music. I was really encouraged not to listen to it, so all of the references were a lot of me not understanding. I can’t judge if they added to the characters or were one of those moments of just name dropping to make them sound cool and cultured. I don’t know. But, there were a lot and that pulled me out of the story a lot.
Overall, I do think there were probably too many references though. Between music, Teen Wolf and of course Harry Potter this story was littered with references to pop culture which I know doesn’t sit well with some readers, so fair warning.
More Than Maybe isn’t a horrible read, but with the amount of musical references that pulled me out of the story and my lack of knowledge about music, I fully understand that this isn’t a book for me.
More Than Maybe was such a great read! From The sweet romance, the family dynamics and of course the music! Vada and Luke pair up for a senior assignment and learn more about each other and their chemistry! Fun read and I can’t wait to read more from Erin Hahn
I really liked this book. I didn't love it, but it definitely rated higher than 3 stars on my scale. At first I got really confused because I thought this book was supposed to be a continuation of Hahn's previous book, "More Than Maybe." Once I realized it was not, the confusion went away and I really enjoyed it! The book follows Vada, a music blogger who works at a local dive bar, and Luke, the son of a former British rocker. It's a little insta-lovey, but not enough to be annoying. I liked all the other side characters as well including Vada's boss Phil, Luke's twin brother Cullen, and Zach, Cullen's boyfriend. There are little snippets and some alluding to Hahn's previous book where the characters talk about Annie Mathers' music lyrics, as music plays a huge role in the plot of "More Than Maybe."
An absolutely incredible sophomore book from Erin Hahn. Given how much I loved You'd Be Mine, I went in with high expectations and somehow she more than met them and exceeded them easily. More Than Maybe was a moving and emotional journey full of heart and music! oh the music! I had the most transcendent time constructing a playlist with all of the mentioned songs and really just vibing with each while reading. it created the most unique an layered reading experience. While mine and the author's taste in music varied it was so fascinating to read a book by someone about characters who interact with music the way I do. I t was incredible. I cried multiple times from joy and deep heartfelt emotion and dang this book was just incredible. One of my top reads of 2020 hands down, More Than Maybe has solidified Erin Hahn as an insta-buy author for me. Really well done!
I loved Erin Hahn’s first book and so I had high expectations for this one, and trust me they were all met. I loved this book so much!
