Well this author has only gone and given us a Werewolf story that was funny, unbelievably sexy and full of interesting characters. Step forward Evie a Witch with an incredible family who as I write I desperately want to know more about. Oh and did I mention that Evie is obsessed with comics , sci fi and everything else that could delight my nerdy heart ! Evie is sweet but not shy although she’s about to meet not one but two absolutely jaw dropping hot guys or is she ?
Mateo is desperate to find a Witch who can undo whatever weird hex is stopping him from transforming into his Wolfy self ! and slowly going insane as his inner Wolf starts talking to him. Oh dear who am I kidding because Alpha ( yes he definitely has a different personality) is constantly barking both orders and insults at Mateo but things get a lot worse when the violent Alpha gets an eyeful of the one person who just might be able to help and yes you’ve guessed it that’s little Evie !
Werewolves, Witches, Vampires, Grim reapers and a Zombie cat all conspire here to bring this entertaining story to life. For this reader it steadily got better and I’m definitely wanting to read more and if you enjoy quirky but fun paranormal romance then I think you might enjoy this new series too.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
‘Wolf Gone Wild’ has an insanely attractive blurb, I’ll admit. A man who’s going insane with a wolf that’s barely leashed stumbling into a bar/restaurant asking a witch for help, when these two paths shall never cross? It’s sort of forbidden in a way, but Evie Savoie isn’t going to turn away a man in need.
Juliette Cross’s worldbuilding comes in early on: there’re long-lived supernatural beings littering the streets of New Orleans, each with their own coven, den or some other mysterious clan and the uneasy peace is kept by the Savoie witch Sisters, each with their own unique powers. But when a hex so strong is placed on Mateo Cruz, the witches find that they have to welcome a werewolf into their covern, despite what traditions dictate.
I loved the starting few chapters, where Cross’s writing was tinged with humour as Mateo battled his inner wolf with some hilarious inner conversations, most of which dealt with trying to talk sense into a lusty, bloodthirsty wolf that was straining at the leash to break people’s limbs and be dirty with women. The very slow buildup was as much as it was foreplay as it was full of innuendo and suggestive winks; Mateo’s dirty inner wolf drove a lot of it but it did plateau after a while as this became status quo each time Mateo and Evie spent time together.
This was however, also where the plot evened out after an upward climb, which went on for a while and I found myself trudging to the halfway mark before wondering if the progress between in Mateo’s case (aside from their heaving chests, salacious talk, etc) was going anywhere soon. The more interesting bits were the hints of future pairings as the story wore on, and I lapped those up more eagerly than I did of Mateo/Evie after the first half.
Still, this was a fun read, with a heavy dose of Star Wars geekery tossed in and if you like your paranormal romances juggling the ominous and the light-hearted, this is the one to go for.

Book blurb;
Description
What's the worst thing that can happen to a werewolf? Unable to shift for three months, Mateo Cruz knows all too well. His wolf has taken up residence in his head, taunting him night and day with vividly violent and carnal thoughts. Convinced he's cursed, he needs the help of a powerful witch before he literally goes insane.
Evie Savoie has always obeyed the house rules of her coven--no werewolves. They're known for being moody and volatile. So, when a distempered, dangerous werewolf strolls into the bar and almost strangles one of her late-night customers, she's ready to bounce him through the door. But the desperation in his eyes when he begs her to help him softens her heart and convinces her to bend the rules.
What Evie doesn't know is that Mateo's wolf has a mind of his own. And now that she's in his sights, he wants only one thing. Her.

Really enjoyed this book.
Mateo is a werewolf, he believes he has been cursed because he cannot shift and his wolf called Alpha keeps talking to him and its driving hum crazy. Mateo goes to see Evie who is a witch to get her to help him by lifting the hex on him.
This was a lot of fun, i actually think its doing the book a diservice by comparing it to the vampire diaries, because they were terrible books, it is so much better than that. I read a lot of JR Ward and Gena SHowalter and this for me is along those lines.
Im glad that this isnt a stand alone because you can see Violet being the star of the next book.
Solid 5 stars. Loved it.
Wolf Gone Wild by Juliette Cross is the 1st book in her new Stay a Spell series. I cannot say enough about Juliette, who is one of my favorite authors. She never fails…never ever…to give us a fantastic story in an equally fantastic series. Did I like Wolf Gone Wild??? I loved it, and was thrilled to see a different kind of series for Juliette. Loved all the witches and werewolves….awesome.
Mateo Cruz, our hero, is a wolf shifter and has not been able to shift to his wolf for over three months; his inner wolf has been driving him crazy with loud, snarky and violent comments. He knows something is wrong, that he is cursed; so, desperation drives Mateo to seek out a witch who is known to be a hex-breaker. The problem? Witches do not help werewolves.
Evie Savoie, our heroine, is the hex-breaker in her witch family, the Savoie sisters. Evie is working at a local bar, where she meets with clients, and immediately notices Mateo. She tries to avoid him, knowing the rules…no werewolves; but Evie sees the desperation in his eyes, not to mention her immediate attraction. To make matters worse, Mateo’s wolf (Alpha) is constantly yelling to him about his insatiable desire for the pretty witch.
Evie decides to help Mateo, and brings him home for her to plead her case to her sisters, each of whom have their own powers. They all agree to help Mateo find out who has cursed him, even though they discover that he has been affected by a powerful witch.
What follows is an exciting, intense, and sexy adventure to save Mateo. Juliette’s addition of Alpha, was not only downright dirty, but a lot of fun too. I loved Evie and Mateo together (with the added comments from Alpha); they did make a fabulous sexy couple with amazing chemistry. No surprise here, as Juliette always comes up with fantastic couples. The sisters were also great, especially Jules, Violet and Clara, just to name a few; I can’t wait to meet them all in the future books.
Wolf Gone Wild was so well written by Juliette Cross. To tell too much more would be spoilers. If you enjoy a paranormal romance, exciting action, surprise twists, great secondary characters, and a couple that has sizzling chemistry; you need to read this book. I cannot wait to see what Juliette has in store for us next.
I loved Evie and her uniquely talented self! Her siblings also ranged from sweet, to snarky, and one was quite bossy, but the close relationships were obvious from the start. Mateo was a real sweetheart as well, but all those rough and naughty edges?! Some of it was totally Mateo, but I can easily point a finger to Alpha, Mateo’s wolf! Alpha was exactly as his name implied-a bad boy...well, wolf... and he had the naughtiness down pat!
So many details and twists...I don’t want to ruin anything so I think I’ll stop rambling now. I’ll just say this was a freaking awesome read! Wolf Gone Wild was packed with so many delicious moments! I thought I was prepared for Alpha, but Juliette’s novella in the Christmas After Dark anthology was only the tip of the iceberg!
I received an advance reader copy from Netgalley and this is my honest review.
Wolf Gone Wild is the first in a new series by Juliette Cross featuring paranormal creatures with action, humor, and romance. I was charmed by the delightful duo of Evie and Mateo.
Mateo has a hex put on him that leaves him unable to shift, but he doesn't know who did it to him or how to get it removed. Until he's given the direction of the Sevoie sisters who may be able to help him. The problem? They don't help werewolves.
I enjoyed Mateo and his interactions with his inner wolf, aptly titled Alpha. They bicker and play off each other so well, and it added another humorous element to the story. They're both drawn to Evie, the hex-breaker, only Mateo is a little more...civilized about it all. Having him and Alpha determine the way to move forward was delightful to watch, and the few times Alpha took over? More, please!
But as much as I loved Alpha and Mateo, I loved Evie even more. LOVED HER. Her one-liners and the way she viewed things were just so Evie. She won over my nerdy little heart. She's a huge Marvel fan, unafraid to tell it like it is, and has a vulnerable part to her that rounded her out. Evie wants to help Mateo, but Mateo's under a hex she's never seen before.
So begins an adventure through fandoms, haunted houses, magic sessions, and some nerdy dirty talk. Add in a slow burn that builds up a pleasant sizzle all the way through, and it made for a delightful reading experience that I would revisit again and again. And Cross tops it off with a loveable cast that is guaranteed to satisfy paranormal fans. It's a lighthearted read that elevates all the feels, and I absolutely can't wait to read more!
What a dirty thinking Alpha dog!!! I LOVED him!!!
When Mateo has a hex put on him, he is no longer able to shift into wolf form. As a result, his inner wolf, Alpha, is driving him crazy. His only hope is Evie Savoie. Her witchy specialty is removing hexes but it doesn’t take Mateo long to realize that just being in her presence soothes and quietens the beast within him.
I can’t express how much I absolutely loved Mateo as well as his raunchy, dirty talking sidekick, Alpha. Mateo was a bit shy, uncertain, and adorably cute, while Alpha lived for only two things: blood and sex. Together they entertained the heck out of me.
’”I wanted to come by and sort of look at you, I mean, see you. Hang out with you.” That was the stupidest ----ing string of words I’d ever put together.
She laughed. My heart soared. “You just couldn’t live without me, could you?”
You have no ----ing idea.’
Evie was a total geek when it came to sci-fi movies and comic books. The fact that Mateo didn’t have a clue what she was talking about opened up the door for lots of witty banter as she introduces him to pop culture. Add in the extreme chemistry between them and the intensity of Alpha’s desire and Evie was pretty much a goner.
’Mateo was the key. Alpha was the welcome mat. And I was loving the [heck] out of walking through this door, pushing my werewolf over the edge. I wanted us to go together.’
There isn’t a lot of dark drama that many of this author’s books have. Instead, this is lighter, flirtier, a bit whimsical. That isn’t to say there isn’t any drama or conflict. There is something seriously wrong going on, but rather than consuming the story it helps to push it along. Of course when it all comes to a head, there is nothing fun and flirty about it.
I loved everything about this book, this hero and heroine as well as all the secondary characters. I hated having to set it aside when life demanded attention and at a less busy time I could have easily read this through in one sitting and then dug back in for a reread. It’s just that good! Easily my favorite by this author!
What a fun and steamy read.
When Werewolf Mateo, unable to shift into his wolf form, thinking he is cursed, finds hex-breaking Witch Evie and begs for help things get intriguing and you know you're in for a fun ride.
The internal conversations between Mateo and his inner wolf Alpha had me in hysterics, and the chemistry between Mateo and Evie, WOW!!!
I’ve read most of Juliette’s books since I first read her Vessel Trilogy, and Wolf Gone Wild did not disappoint. She has a way of drawing you into her stories that leaves you wanting more and I can not wait for the next book in the series.
Wolf Gone Wild is book one in a brand new series by Juliette Cross, Stay A Spell. In this series you are going to meet the Savoie sisters, a group of sisters that just happen to be witches who live in New Orleans.
Evie Savoie is a very talented and powerful witch. She spends her days helping out at the bar/restaurant her oldest sister, Jules owns, The Cauldron, and also at the shop her sister Clara owns, Mystic Maybelle’s. Evie was known as a hex breaker. She has a specific talent and has never met a hex she couldn’t conquer. As a rule, witches avoided werewolves. They were temperamental and unpredictable. Not to mention the whole blood lust thing that happened when they shifted. So you can say she wasn’t thrilled when a werewolf came walking into the bar late one evening when she was already exhausted. This is the last thing she wanted to deal with.
Mateo Cruz has always had complete control over his wolf except during his shift. But something is blocking Mateo from being able to shift. He thinks that somehow a hex has been put on him. It’s been three months. His inner wolf has taken to talking to him, a constant voice in his head. He won’t stop talking.
Mateo has never met any of the Savoie sisters but had heard of Evie’s ability to break hexes. So he sought her out at The Cauldron. What he hadn’t expected was that as soon as he was near her, his wolf quieted.
“Man and beast needed to be near her, and there was nothing in the wide world I could do to deny it. Her proximity was all I needed.”
Evie and her sisters need to figure out just what is keeping Mateo’s wolf locked inside him. Who put a hex on him and why? Mateo wants Evie to spend time with him to calm his wolf. As these two spend time together, they form a bond, a friendship of sorts but more.
“For the first time, I wasn’t content by myself. I yearned for her.”
These two were so adorable. Evie was so full of life but lacked confidence in herself. Something Mateo helped her with. And Evie brought out a side to Mateo he didn’t even know was there, a romantic side, a more fun loving side, even a sappy side because he had fallen hard for her. His adoration gave me butterflies.
I didn’t expect so much humor in this. Mateo’s wolf was hilarious at times. The running monologue drove Mateo crazy. Evie was so full of life, so exuberant. She was so good for Mateo. Werewolves were solitary by nature but she drew him out.
Feelings grew fast and deep but they had to figure out how to free Mateo’s wolf first. After that would he be finished with Evie? Or could they be more? I enjoyed this so much. I loved these sisters. I’m thinking the future books will be about each sister. I’m not sure but if that’s the case, I have my hopes on who will be next. Juliette Cross never fails to amaze me and that’s just what she did with this new series. It’s so different than any of her others and I can’t wait for you to meet Evie and Mateo. I hope you love them just as I did.
Oh my what an incredibly hot book 😍 I really liked it. I was very afraid this would be another bad paranormal romance novel with a Neanderthal werewolf male. I'm so glad it wasn't!
Writing style: This was so tastefully written. I really liked the flow of the story and a lot of that was because of the great writing. I definitely want to read more of this author!
Characters: This book had a wide variety of characters, one more fun and intriguing than the next. I loved seeing all of them and absolutely adored Evie. What a powerful lady 😍
Story: The buildup to the romance was beautifully done. Half the book I was screaming KISS ALREADY, I guess Alpha and I would like each other (we're both #teamthirsty). The struggle with Mateo and his hex was also very interesting. There was never an immediate threat, but things were still very tense. I was so damn curious to find out who had cursed Mr Wolfman.
This book was so lovely, I need moreeee. I really tried to savor this book and take my time, emphasis on tried 😂 I really couldn't put it down. This book gets 4 stars and I'm only taking off half a star, because I do think it could be even better with some minor tweaks. And the other half is leaving the rating, because I got a little annoyed that werewolves were portrayed as loners, because wolves are pack animals and they can't survive on their own (big wolf lover over here ✌🏼).
Werewolfs, witches ,vampires and a zombie cat oh! My!!!!
Another fabulous read from Juliette cross and it's a twisty, snarky and full of awesome one liners with hot sexy paranormal male characters from Mateo who's a werewolf who's had a hex put on him so he can't shift to his wolf and is being drove crazy by Alpha his wolf spirt and all alpha cares about is fucking and fighting and of course he won't shut up for one moment!! Until Mateo goes to see evie a witch who breaks hex's! Mateo and evie along with her sisters have tried to help him break the curse but some very powerful witch has cast a blood spell !! It will take not only evie and her witch sisters, and a powerful vampire to find a book to break this curse and they don't even now who the witch is. This book had all juliette's trade Mark's from amazing writing to a great storyline to steamy lovemaking and hot sensuality!! It's set in New Orleans were their are many paranormal creatures and you never know what or who you might come across. The build between evie and Mateo is slow at first because Mateo is a loner like most wolf's he likes his own company. He doesn't get to close to any women for fear that they'll start asking questions on why he takes off for days on end,it's just easier this way, And ever since evie's break up with Derek the douche bag evie hasn't been with any other guys. Their becoming best friends and she's teaching him all about star wars and wolverine and comics, and their growing closer. Mateo wants evie but he's afraid of alpha taking over and him not being able to control him,but the fires building and soon neither will have a choice!!! And when alpha starts the ball in motion mateo can't control the beast any longer and the need to claim to his sweet little witch is now!! the time is well past stolen kisses and caresses its time to make her his!!!
Lots of foreplay and off the charts chemistry !!!! And the characters are awesome as well I loved both evie and Mateo she was sweet and sexy girl who loves starwars, wolverine and comics and Mateo is a artist who makes mythical metal sculptures . And then theirs secondary characters like evie's sister jule, violet and Clara who all have special talents who just as intriguing and then theirs a sexy gorgeous vampire Ruben Dubois who is the head of the southern vampires,he's so sexy!!! Can't wait for more of him!!! I highly recommend this book if you like a entertaining funny sexy read with fabulous one liners and plenty of snark to go around with passion and a sexy werewolve who's wolf spirt Alpha is a delicious dirty bad boy who just can't keep his thoughts to himself. Until next time luv's.💋💞
Actual rating: 4.5 stars.
Wolf Gone Wild is a sweet, fun, enchanting romp through New Orleans as shifters, vampires, witches, and other sorts of supernatural creatures go bump in the night.
Wolf Gone Wild is a departure from Ms Cross's usual intense, emotional reads but is a delight all of its own. If you're used to Ms Cross's previous books, you will find this quite different but equally enjoyable. The pacing is slower, with rich world building, a delicious build up of the relationship between Evie and Mateo, and fiercely passionate sexy times. You're going to love the pop culture references and if you're anything like me, you'll enjoy geeking out over Star Wars and comic books as well.
I love Mateo. He's alpha to the core with his wolf when its in charge but the man, Mateo, is sweet, kind, charming, creative, and beautiful. He's such a nice guy and so different from the persona of his wolf. Although, I have to admit, I love his wolf and how out of control and intense he is.
Evie is simply delightful. There is no other way to describe her. She's sweet, kind, fun, bubbly, effervescent, and simply a joy to be around. She's the perfect foil to draw Mateo out of his introverted self and to enjoy the world through her eyes.
Even though I found this story a little slow in some parts, I enjoyed the detail and richness of the characters and the depth Ms Cross delved into with them. I had to just set aside the adrenalin junkie in me and go with the flow. Everything happened in its own time and when the climax hit, it went off with a bang. I was suspecting everyone with every turn of the page trying to figure out who could be the big bad but Ms Cross played it close to her chest and the big reveal was a wonderful surprise. Nothing was what it seemed. What fun!
A great start to the new series and the new direction you're taking, Ms Cross. I can't wait for the next book.
I loved reading this book. The level of detail was great. The interplay between Alpha and Mateo made me laugh. I loved how Evie and Mateo fell in love and came to realize it, and how Alpha knew immediately that Evie was the one for him.
I recieved a copy of this book from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was a really fun paranormal romance. Mateo is a werewolf who can't shift and is trying to control his wolf half, and Evie is a witch who breaks hexes and is very into Star Wars and Marvel. They're both really interesting characters, and the book melds these paranormal with modern life really well.
It set up plenty of opportunities for sequels about Evie's sisters that I'm definitely looking forward to reading.
Juliette Cross has always been a fan favorite of mine when it comes to kick ass heroines who really knows how to pack a punch and worse than sin lead heros who are nonetheless pantying dropping hot. So obviously when she released "Wolf Gone Wild", I couldn't wait to get my grubby little hands on it to further immerse myself in the supernatural world she was able to create filled with witches, werewolves and vampires.
If you haven't already know, the story starts off with Mateo seeking out the infamous witch Evie, pleading with her to help him get rid of a hex that prevents him shifting from man to wolf. The novel then transitions to the generic format of a whirlwind romance filled with fine ass sexual tension, oozing chemistry and a dynamic duo that you can't help but root for.
After completing the novel, it took me a bit of time to access then process the read and eureka! I was finally able to sum it all up into one simple word: decent. Yes, just decent people. What more can I say? There was absolutely no wow factor but, a big but there. I didn't completely hate it. Please don't kill me JC, I felt like this was a big fat, "it's not you, it's me" type of read for the reason it's really just me I swear because I can totally see how this could be a win for most readers. In my opinion, it could've been better and I'm downright shocked that I didn't absolutely love this since I typically do with anything the author spits out. I just couldn't form a real connection with storyline nor characters despite liking less than a handful of them.
Besides the semi mediocre plot, I will admit one of the plus sides of the read was the dashing lead Mateo and his hilarious and let's be real, down right dirty inner wolf, Alpha. Hey I like a man that knows what he wants *wink wink*. But…. And yes there's another but being thrown in, I wasn't exactly a mega fan of Evie. Eh, I could've done without her to be honest and would have more than happy to have the focus primarily on Mateo and Alpha. Sure she was optimistic, good at heart, willing to help anyone in need and holds other good attributes- a part of me kinda sorta hope she be more… mature so to speak. I don't know but I'm guessing it's maybe because I was so spoiled by the previous heroines that were so badass in the author's other works that this heroine just fell short for me. Nevertheless, me not liking her entirely didn't ruin my reading experience and I hope the next installment would be more up my alley.
So without further ado, this was still a fairly enjoyable and decent read that I will recommend to readers that are fans of the supernatural genre who are looking for a side piece of scorching hot, panty dropping and hot tempered werewolves and relatable, down to earth witches that help keep them at bay. It's definitely a novel worth checking out.
