Thank you NetGalley for the ebook. This is the first book by Kate Bateman that i've read & I enjoyed it.The heroine was quite sharp witted. The main characters make a beautiful couple. I liked the way Emmy discovers foreign and beautiful words that have no direct translation. Eagerly waiting for Sebastien Wolffe's book.

WOW! This book is going to stay with me. I loved it from beginning to end. The characters were lovely the connection was undeniable. The dialogue was great the witty banter between the characters smooth and enjoyable. Emmy is an honorable thief and Alex Danvers, Lord Melton is an honorable Bow Street runner, the sparks between these two HOT!

I am looking forward to the next installment of this series. I recommend this book to all Historical Romance lovers.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I loved the first book in this series and this is Alex's story. These books are filled with wit and a touch of suspense. I was entertained and enthralled throughout the book. Alex and Emmy are wonderful characters and I loved them.

Alex Harland, Earl of Melton shared a memorable kiss with a beautiful woman at a masquerade ball just before he left London for war. He has returned four years later with a war injury and the memory of that special woman. Alex and two of his friends set about to make their fortunes by establishing a gaming hall and working as Bow Street Runners. The Nightjar jewel thief has plagued Bow Street for more than a decade. Now the thief has taken a jewel that belongs to the Prince Regent. Bow Street is determined to catch the thief and Alex is adamant that he will see the thief in Newgate prison.

Emmy Danvers and her family fled to England to avoid the French Revolution. They have enjoyed life as titled French nobility. Emmy even stole a kiss from a young gentleman on his way to war. When a blackmailer threatens her family, Emmy will do whatever it takes to keep them safe, even resuming the Nightjar thefts she thought she had buried with her father four years ago.

When Alex encounters Emmy in his search for the Nightjar, she reminds him of that night long ago, her scent has stayed with him all this time. She stirs in him a passion he thought he would never experience, along with the suspicion that she is the Nightjar. It is only a matter of time before he has her right where he wants her and it isn't in Newgate prison.

To Catch an Earl is the second book in the Bow Street Bachelors series by Kate Bateman. It can be read as a standalone if you haven't read the first book already.

This was a really lighthearted tale of cat and mouse. The cat is Alex Harland, Earl of Melton who is an agent of Bow Street. The mouse, albeit a very feisty one, is Emmy Danvers, AKA the Nightjar, notorious jewel thief.

Emmy hasn't chosen to take on her belated father's mantle of the Nightjar but is being blackmailed into it. When she realises that Alex, a man she has been in love with for years, is on the case to capture the Nightjar she is appalled. She mustn't be stopped, and she definitely doesn't want Alex to have to be the one to do it. She couldn't stand it if he came to dislike her.

Alex isn't a stupid man and he has a strong inkling that Emmy is the one actually doing the robberies. He doesn't want to believe it especially when he realises how attracted he is to her. He couldn't fall for a criminal surely? What if Emmy is the Nightjar, will he be able to put his feelings aside and have her arrested? He will have to, won't he?

I really enjoyed this story. Emmy is such a fun character and I loved the chase that Alex was forced to do. I loved that he was horrified to find himself falling for a possible criminal but how he couldn't seem to keep away from her. Their passionate moments were steamy and they make such a fabulous couple. I had no idea how they could possibly end up together because at the end of the day Alex is an honest law-abiding man whose conscience wouldn't allow him to not turn Emmy in. I am not going to give any spoilers but suffice to say that they do end up having a happy ever after. I smiled a lot reading this book, I laughed too. But as well as the romance and the fun of the chase there were some suspenseful moments too. The story definitely had it all and it is definitely one that I will read again.

I am very happy to recommend it.

5/5 stars

This series just keeps getting better with every story! Absolutely loved Emmy and Alex's enemies to lovers romance from the very start.

Characters, Pacing & Point of View
This story is so good that you'll fly through the pages and it is told from both Emmy and Alex's point of view. I really loved the chemistry between these two characters. The back and forth cat and mouse games were so entertaining to read! It was a slow burn, but very worth it with plenty of sexual tension and chemistry throughout the entire story. The steamy scenes were downright delicious! I also loved all the side characters including the Bow Street bachelors and Emmy's grandmother.

Overall
Overall, I loved this book and new addition to this amazing series. I can't wait to read the next Bow Street bachelor's story.

*Thank you so much to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read this digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Alex Harland was granted the title of Earl of Morland by the Prince in exchange for services to the crown. He's asked to do so again when the infamous thief Nightjar is again stealing jewels. The thief is actually Emmy Danvers, an heiress that is the daughter of the original Nightjar, who had pledged to steal back all of the French Crown Jewels and return them to the Burgundy throne. The two are drawn to each other, and the dangers that threaten Emmy only push them even closer together.

To Catch an Earl is the second Bow Street Bachelors novel, following This Earl of Mine. There's a name check to Ben and their boss from the first novel, but this one is independent and you don't have to have read it. Alex is on his own for this case, though his boss has information gleaned from the spy network that points to the Danvers family right away. This novel is more of a cat and mouse game: Emmy realizes Alex is after her but is coerced into stealing the other jewels, and Alex realizes quickly that not only is Emmy the thief he's after, but the elusive young woman he danced with at a masquerade he could never forget.

I enjoyed the push and pull of the relationship as it built up over the course of the book. There are higher stakes as it progresses, which means Emmy has to put herself outside of her comfort zone to save her family. That also makes her realize what's important to her. The same occurs for Alex, and the conclusion of the novel was a fun one to read. There was not only the chase to get the man threatening Emmy and her family, but the emotions that were viscerally described for both of them. They had a history, making it hard for them to trust others, but they were able to trust each other and work as a great team.

To Catch an Earl is Book #2 of the Bow Street Bachelors series, but it may be read as a stand-alone. However, Book #1 is a very nice beginning, with loveable characters, so it should be read.
Bow Street agent Alex Harland, Earl of Melton and Emmy Danvers exchange a kiss before Alex leaves to fight a war. They meet again years later when Alex is trying to arrest a jewel thief (Nightjar) and the clues lead to Emmy. Is she the thief? And if she is, will Alex arrest her or let her go?
I loved reading this book and I'm really looking forward to Book #3.

To Catch an Earl is the second book in The Bow Street Bachelors series. I loved this wonderful story. It had an intriguing storyline that was full of romance, fun, adventure and mystery. Alex and Emmy were an endearing couple with great chemistry. I can't wait to read the next book and I would definitely recommend this one.

The second book in the Bow Street Bachelors series by Kate Bateman is titled To Catch an Earl. A steamy historical romance that sweeps you off your feet with lots of drama and romance. The characters were simply delightful! While this is part of a series, it can easily be read as a standalone novel. After I devoured the first book in the series, I knew I had to read To Catch an Earl. A spectacular romance from beginning to end that I highly recommended!

You can't always read a book by its cover! I love historical romances, and I love one, every once in a while that's just a sit back, relax and have fun. That's what this book did for me.

After that wicked cover, I was ready to delve in, and I really did enjoy this.

A masquerade ball; I love them whatever story they're worked into.

Is Emma bound for jail? Or, will Alexander find the true criminals and bring them to justice.

A very enjoyable read!

I received an advanced reader copy, and this is my honest and voluntary review.

In the first book, we saw Ben and Georgie fall in love after they met each other in the strangest way possible: he was a prisoner in Newgate and she was desperate to pay to marry a convict and be able to take care of the business left by her father.
Lots of confusion, right?

Now, we have Alexander Harland, Earl of Melton, who helps Sir Nathanael Connant, Chief Magistrate of Bow Street, to solve various mysteries and crimes, and comes across the famous jewel thief Nightjar. This thief has the characteristic of only stealing one piece at a time, even when he would have the opportunity to take several at the same time, and whenever he takes a rock, he leaves a big black feather.

Alex was more than committed to finding out who this thief was who had given Magistrate a headache for years, and who now, in his boldness, had stolen a diamond that belonged to Prince Regent himself.

On the other hand, Alex himself had been stolen in another way years ago, when at a masquerade ball he was boldly invited to dance with a lady whose face was completely covered by the mask, and who stole a kiss... and his heart.
The next day, years ago, Alex traveled to Portugal because of the war. Now, he was determined to discover not only who Nightjar was, but also the mysterious lady of the ball.

Emmy Danvers, or rather Emmeline Louise d'Anvers, came from a family of thieves. She was very good at what she did, along with her brother Luc and Grandmère Camille.
Now, they were being blackmailed into stealing more and more by someone who knew their secret because of something that her father had done in the past.
The problem now was not just stealing jewelry, but that Nightjar was being investigated closely by none other than the man Emmy secretly loved.

Years ago she invited him to dance and marked his life, even without knowing it.
At this point, she will have to choose between listening to her heart and surrender to the man she has always coveted or going to be hanged with her family for the many crimes committed.

A game of cat chasing the mouse, but who will actually fall into the trap?

This was a really fun, clever story! I liked and sympathized with Emmy immediately, and was really intrigued by her secret career. Her romance with Alex was solid, and he worked excellently as her foil and love interest. If the idea of a well done historical romance with a bit of Catwoman/Batman flavor interests you, look no further! This is second in a series, but I read out of order with no issues.

*I did receive an advance copy via NetGalley, but that did not influence my enjoyment or review. I'd have paid for this book, and went back for the first in the series!

Kate Bateman weaves a tale so provocative that you can't help but want more!!!
How refreshing it is to read a different concept in the Historical Romance genre.

Since I'm a sucker for historical romance (I love the Bow Street runners), I was very happy to receive an arc for To Catch an Earl. Although this is part of a series, the stories can be read as a standalone. The story is about the Nightjar: a gentleman thief, who robs the priceless crown jewels of France back from the English who have confiscated the during the war. He always leaves a black feather in return.
But who would have guessed that the gentleman thief is in fact a woman! Emmy Danvers has picked up, where her father couldn't end his quest for gathering all the French crown jewels. Unfortunately, Bow Street agent Alex Harland is hot on her tail. So, she must be very clever, to avoid getting caught.
A funny and heartwarming cat and mouse game is being played. But how can two opposites of the law be friends? Or can Alex learn to understand that there is a lot of grey between his black and white opinions? Find out for yourself in this wonderful read of Kate Bateman. Four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

Bateman continues to delight in this second installment of the Bow Street Bachelors series. I thoroughly enjoyed the dynamic between the two main characters of Alex and Emmy. You cheer for the chasm between them, the fact that Emmy is a thief that Alex is trying to catch, to be resolved in some way but wonder how that is going to be done. The chemistry between them is palpable and their cat and mouse game bring many entertaining moments.

To Catch an Earl by Kate Bateman is book Two in A Bow Street Bachelors Series. This is the story of Emmy Danvers and Alex Harland, Earl of Melton. I have read the previous book, which did add to my enjoyment of this one. I did feel though this could be a standalone book if you wish to do so. Emmy has always loved Alex but she of course stays in the background until he is at a Masquerade party where she gives him a kiss before he leaves for war. Alex never knew who kissed him but he remembers that kiss that has haunted him through the years. Now in their present day, Alex helps to work with the Bow Street runners to find and capture the elusive jewel thief known as Nightjar. But in addition to that, Alex has also been on the lookout for the mysterious women that kissed him. What he keeps finding is Emmy at different points in his search. Emmy knows that it is a dangerous game to be in the sites of Alex but she is still drawn to him. But it is a dangerous game for sure the closer he gets to her. As always, this author writes stories that draw you into the chapters. I loved this book and will be reading more from Ms. Bateman.

Alex Harland, Earl of Melton received his title by The Prince Regent as well as his two friends, Seb and Benedict for foiling an attempted rescue of Bonaparte. He is part owner of the Tricorn, a very successful establishment. These three are also now helping the Bow Street investigate sensitive cases. The latest one he has been called to help with is the capturing of Nightjar. The thief only takes the one thing they are after, leaving a black feather as their calling card. Emma is the daughter of a thief who upon his passing has taken up his role. Not because she wanted to but because of blackmail. In order to keep her family safe, she is compelled to follow orders as she didn’t know her blackmailer. She knew Alex from four years ago when she went to a masquerade party and danced as well as kissed him. He was special to her but he didn’t know who she was. She didn’t know it but he couldn’t get her out of his mind after that night, even throughout his time on the battlefield, and was determined to find her once he returned home. This story has you seeing how she is successful with her disguises and ways of getting into the establishments. You will see how she taunts Alex. Will she get caught and is so, what will happen to her. Will he find her. I received a free copy from NetGalley/St. Martin's Press and this is my honest review.

To Catch an Earl by Kate Bateman features Emmy, a jewel thief, and Alex, the Bow Street Runner on her trail…and of course he’s also the man she’s secretly loved forever. Of. Course!

This was a fun read. Lot’s of cat and mouse circling and solid banter as well as some twists and drama. It was hard to imagine how these two characters, a criminal and an agent of the law, were going to get their HEA. But they do of course.

Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin’s for the opportunity to read an advanced copy. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Back in the day I got to enter with this one that has something that I always was interested about how agencies ran. This is another one for Bow Street agency and the agent we come to know. Alex is investigating a case that has him crossing paths with Emmy whom was unforgettable. This was a bit predictable for me but still fun to read. Feelings will soon rise but stubborn can be said. This is a fun mystery to find yourself in till the end.
