This is the first book I read by this author and won't surely be the last.
It's an engrossing, sweet and entertaining novel that made me smile and root for the characters.
It's well plotted, the setting is lovely and the characters are well thought.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
I received the book from netgalley.
I love her book's. I love the character's. My favorite character of the book was abby because she very strong character all she had to go through. there romance in the story and you'll find Debbie book's are alway's so good
So far I have not found a Debbie Mason book that I didn’t enjoy and that holds true reading the first book in her new series, Highland Falls. Summer on Honeysuckle Ridge is a sweet contemporary romance that whisks you away to the hill country of North Carolina and the fictional town of Highland Falls. Following the story of a recent divorcee who has inherited a portion of her great-aunt’s farm and the grumpy vet who received the rest of it, Debbie Mason steals your heart and leaves you smiling once again.
Abby Everhart is an absolute treat. I fell in love with this character slowly. At first she comes off as shallow and your stereotypical rich girl. Quickly you learn that is not the case. She has a bubbly personality, one that draws everyone to her. She’s genuinely kind, like give you the clothes on her back kind of person. These qualities make her intriguing to our hermit vet who lives in the barn on his side of the property.
Hunter MacKenzie is a broken man who is just learning to live again when Abby blows into his life like a hurricane. He is a decorated war hero, yet that isn’t how he sees himself. It’s clear that he deals with PTSD, and I like how Mason handles this in the book. Hunter can come off as cold and unfeeling at times, but when we get his POV chapters it’s clear that isn’t the case. He cares too much, and to protect himself he closes his life off from everyone. It isn’t until Abby arrives that Hunter realizes just how lonely he’s been.
The plot of this book centers around Abby and Hunter, their grudging friendship, and the farm. Abby plans to renovate and sell as quickly as she can. The problem is that her divorce left her with nothing. She’s at the mercy of the vet next door to lend a helping hand. Hunter wants Abby gone. She’s disrupted his life and quiet routine. He wants her to leave until one day he realizes he enjoys her company. This revelation leads him down a new path, one he isn’t sure he’s ready for. I love the dynamic Mason sets up between the two. While the blurb touts it as an enemy to lovers trope, I’m not sure I’d qualify it as that. They are more indifferent to each other than actual enemies. However it is a sweet romance that you can’t help rooting for.
Overall I really enjoyed Summer on Honeysuckle Ridge. Mason proves with each book that she can make you smile and fall in love. With this being the first in the series, there was quite a bit of world-building, setting up the small town of Highland Falls and its people. I love small town romances, and I love the characters that make this small town feel real. I can’t wait to read more! If you enjoy sweet, contemporary romances, Summer on Honeysuckle Falls makes the perfect weekend read.
Summer on Honeysuckle Ridge is the first book in the Highland Falls series by Debbie Mason. A heartwarming romance that makes you want to curl up in bed with a cozy quilt and a hot cup of tea. This warm, sweet, and intriguing story will transport you to the small town of Highland Falls. Summer on Honeysuckle Ridge is a lovely romance that is sure to stay with you long after reading.
Warm, sweet, and affecting!
Summer on Honeysuckle Ridge is an amusing, tenderhearted, enemies-to-more romance that transports you to the small town of Highland Falls and introduces you to the reclusive, broody, Hunter who is content to live alone and wallow in his guilt and grief for past losses, and the spunky, accident-prone Abby who is need of some quick cash and is determined to scrimp, save, fix, sell and move on as quickly as possible.
The writing is humorous and light. The characters are supportive, helpful, and fun-loving. And the plot is a charming blend of family, friendship, touching moments, adversity, attraction, chemistry, swoony romance and hilarious mishaps.
Overall, Summer on Honeysuckle Ridge is a heartwarming, spirited, satisfying tale about teamwork, communication, love, and taking chances. It’s a fabulous start to the new Highland Falls series by Mason, and I can’t wait to read Mallory & Gabriel’s story next.
I usually love all of Ms. Mason's stories. This one fell a little flat with me. I felt the secondary characters where way more interesting than the leads. It was all over the place. I truly did not get the connection between Abby and Hunter. Abby was way too much of everything, I would have run screaming and begging her to just be quiet. And to stop messing in every one's business. Hunter who was basically a hermit ends up finding her charming? I don't get it. They have absolutely nothing in common, and again it does not work for me.
What does work is the setting and details about the town and the residents. Again who were more interesting than the leads.
Received as an ARC from Netgalley.
Abby is sure that the farm her aunt left her will be the salve her soul needs so she packs up her stuff and her dog Bella and heads to North Carolina. She's had a tough time with her husband, a real cad, a divorce, loss of her business, and all sorts of other things. Unfortunately, it turns out that the house is a mess and even more, that Hunter is living there. He's not so happy either- the place was solace for him and his dog Wolf AND he thought Abby's great aunt Lizzie left it to him. This isn't really an enemy to lovers novel because these two, both of whom have issues to solve, find they can work together better than if they compete. And there are the dogs! You know there will be an HEA so enjoy the journey. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. It's a gentle novel and I'm curious what will happen in Highland Falls next!
At first I found Abby to be annoying, and I felt like Hunter just tolerates her. However she grew on me and I end up really liking her. She has a big heart and a big spirit she is a spit fire that’s for sure but she also has this completely sweet and relatable side to her. I really like Sadie and Mallory and hope their stories are coming soon too. The characters in this book really draws you in and make you want to stick around to see what they are going to do next. This book does have adult situations indicates but overall the book was a completely fun read and I can’t wait for more.
An entertaining, laugh out loud romance. Abby is almost broke after her recent divorce from her cheating ex. She leaves LA for Highland Falls, North Carolina after learning that she has inherited her great aunt Liz’s farm. Her plans, sell the farm and head back to LA. The catch, there always has to be a catch, she is not the sole owner. Hunter MacKenzie, former Delta Force soldier, has been living at the farm since leaving the military and helping Liz with the farm. He is stunned when he meets Abby, she is so beautiful and really accident prone. Abby thinks he is a mountain man and is wary of him at first, but all too soon different feelings arise. Will Abby change her mind and realize that living on the farm is where she needs to be? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
Summer on Honeysuckle Ridge will intrigue you as the characters develope. You'll find out if the city girl can come to love the country life her great aunt knew she was met to , plus love will help heal both their hearts
Abby and Hunter have nothing in common, except an old farm that they now both have a claim to. Abby's life was glamorous and lived for everyone to see, Hunter has worked hard to keep his life as far from prying eyes as possible. Is it possible for two such different people to find common ground to build something lasting from? This series has plenty of great characters who welcome you in to their town and their lives. Each book can be read on its own, as part of the series.
Abby’s life was going pretty well, until she discovers her husband having an affair and wants a divorce. She went from having money and being a successful social media influencer, to broke and homeless. She is very excited when she hears she’s inherited her great aunts home and property, she feels like this will turn her life around! She arrives at Honeysuckle Ridge ready to fix what needs fixing, sell the house, and head back to LA. When she arrives, she meets Hunter, who is living on the property. These two immediately don’t get along. But how long can they stay apart, when living on the same property?
Oh my gosh, I loved this book SO much! It was exactly what I needed right now. It was a quick and easy read, and had romance in it! Abby is quirky, talkative and so funny. Hunter has a tough exterior, but really has a great heart underneath it all. Abby and Hunter couldn’t be more opposite if they tried. They are so snarky and funny together. This is my first time reading a book by Debbie Mason, but it certainly won’t be my last. I would highly recommend this book if you’re looking for a good enemies to lovers romance!
Thank you Netgalley for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was the first book I read by this author.
It was a very cute story about a young woman named Abby who had a very hard time . She became homeless in L..A. Just at the time she was at her lowest, she finds she inherited a farmhouse from a great aunt. She traveled to the North Carolina mountains and began a very different life than the one she left. It included an entire new cast of characters, including Hunter.
The story is one incident after another but had a very happy ending.
A heartwarming and well written romance. Terrific story line and well developed characters. Loved th setting. I will definitely be reading more of this author’s books. I received an arc from the publisher and Netgalley and this is my unbiased review.
I'm so excited for this new series from Debbie Mason! I've been a fan of hers for a while, but I think this is my favorite novel to come out from her! This enemies to lovers story involves 2 very different people forced to share a property after the death of an old, widow woman. Both down on their luck for different reasons, they are forced together to try to make the property work for both of their needs. It's such a great story dealing with grief, loss of a loved one, and starting over. It is truly my favorite story I have read from her, and I can't wait for the next installment in this new series!
This was a very sweet contemporary romance. When two totally different people come together and fall in love it's amazing. I loved how the townspeople felt like a side character in the plot. I felt such a kinship with the main character that when she was vindicated in the end, I was happy. I can't wait to read the next installment to this sweet series. I received an advanced reader's copy from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
This was a very good book. Abby had been kicked out of her house and business by her ex-husband. Her reputation was trashed and she was left with nothing. Really, nothing. She even lived in her car for 6 months. She found out she inherited an old house from a great aunt and thought she would fix it up and sell it to get back on her feet. She was in for a very rude awakening by the house, the town and the co-owner of the property. She learned many things on this journey - all which made her a very loveable person. I liked the relationship she had with her two younger sisters and I loved how she learned to love and understand Hunter. She realized her life in LA was very shallow and she became a member of the town she grew to love. A very good story that I got from NetGalley for an honest review
Abby's cheater husband got everything in the divorce but the dog. She has to live in her car, then she learns that, she inherited a farm with the house from her aunt. She is happy she has place to live now, then she can sell it. There is a problem, her aunt left half of the property to Hunter. They don't like each other.
I enjoyed this story so much. Loved Abby and Hunter.
A 3.5 stars story.
Highland Falls, NC is where we get to meet Abby Everhart and Hunter MacKenzie.
She was media influencer from LA who , after a divorce from her husband , went from riches to rags. When she gets a letter telling her she’s inherited a farm in Highland Falls, she sees this as the opportunity to make a quick buck. Put it on the market and go back to LA.
But she never expected to meet Hunter MacKenzie. The man who thought he would inherit the farm, a former decorated soldier and now a hermit whose devastating past has kept him isolated.
Though the storyline was at times funny as well as touching, I felt that Abby was all over the place, too wrap in herself and the “glamour” of YouTube , frequently at the expense of others. Which, for me, made it line a “stop and go” story. Meaning when I started to like her, she did something that just was not right and then back into doing something sweet. This did not encourage me to like her very much. Hunter on the other side, was a very likable character that I believe should have had a more prominent part in the story.
Still , a good story to pass the time.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley and Forever. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
This book has a very similar plot to almost every Hallmark movie I've ever watched, so if you like Hallmark movies, you'll love this book. Abby, who is down on her luck, leaves her big city life (that was falling apart) and moves to a small town after inheriting a rundown house from a deceased relative. When she arrives, she quickly meets, and begins to argue with a man named Hunter who is a veteran who likes to keep to himself. Actually, he does more than just keep to himself, he's a hermit, determined to give up on life. Abby breathes life into his lonely existence, while annoying him a lot along the way. I loved the interactions between Abby and Hunter. There were quite a few moments that were hilarious. And there was a side story with Abby trying to reignite her YouTube career, while also help a new friend with her business and I found that part of the book interesting as well. I always like a romance novel that features a heroine who forms solid relationships with people outside of their romantic relationship. This was a solid, enjoyable, if slightly predictable book.
