With a range of characters, including a rabbit dealing with anxiety to an introverted snake looking for friends, the Cat’s Cafe collection of comics is a super sweet and tender take on addressing mental health.

Every character we are introduced to brings on their own personality and factors to relate to. Of course, not every comic was a hit, but neither were there total misses. Ultimately, the feeling of well wishes and sincerity expressed through these 2-D friends far outreaches any negative comment one might have to the work.

For as to why I lean towards three stars vs anything higher, it’s mainly because I felt a disconnect between some of the characters. Some often having more page time than others. Leading to their issues being addressed more.

The Penguin for instance, although enjoyable, appeared quite often and with the same joke about being obsessed with coffee. Meanwhile, the Hyena who was dealing with low self-esteem had maybe three spots total in the book and didn’t get a true moment for the audience to fall for them as they could with more repeated characters.

As there’s a sort of pointless map of the town where the cafe is located and everyone’s houses but no introduction to the characters elsewhere aside from where they first appear, I’d like to have seen them more balanced and/or have a short bio page that introduced them in a way.

With that said, I would most certainly recommend the book and author. Especially for younger youths who are just starting to brooch these topics.

Thank you!

My daughter was very excited to read this book, but unfortunately I couldn’t download the file as it apparently was an unsupported file. I’d be happy to write a review if I could download and read it.

This was extremely cute. A great collection of inspiring and relatable situations. There are a few puns which are hilarious. The animal characters are easy to follow and make you want to keep reading.

Cat's Café: A Comics Collection is an adorably sweet, humorous collection of comics set in a wonderfully imaginative world, with the cutest cast of animal characters. The whole premise revolves around Cat, who owns a café, and the adventures of them and their café visitors.

Having never previously hearing about this webcomic series, digging into this collection for the first time was an absolute delight. I enjoyed the wide range of topics covered throughout the book, from the lighthearted tales of Penguin's extreme love of coffee, to Rabbit dealing with their anxiety and Snake feeling lonesome without friends. These more serious, mental health topics are handled in such a well-executed, positive light. It definitely helps to have a cute art style, that allows these serious topics to be softened in such ways that fit with the other stories of the collection (never feeling jarring or forced), and I greatly appreciated this. Personally, I felt very positively lifted in spirit after reading these, and I felt good!

Also, I also found it a nice touch most characters had no specific gender, as they are typically referred to by their animal name or the pronouns they/them.

This is such a heartwarming collection to read. Despite not being a very long collection, by the end I felt I got to know the characters and understood their personalities very well. There is definitely a character (or two, or more) that everyone can relate to, and combining that with the cutesy art style creates an enjoyable, highly recommendable read.

Thanks to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the advanced copy, in exchange for an honest review!

oh, the warm fuzzy feeling...

At first, I thought it is a bunch of cute, cuddly, kind of silly cartoons

But sometimes it digs a little deeper and I would start doing self-association

and chocking with emotion

Again, warm fuzzy feeling with cute characters

These were by far my most beloved 170 pages from any book or any graphic novel ever read. There are so many lovely animals such as: Cat, Rabbit, Kiwi, Blue Jay AND ALSO PENGUIN!!! Oh God! This was so perfect even though I never drank or will drink coffee. But that thing with "HOT CHOCOLATE THROUGH MY VEINS" totally described me!!!!

I wasn't aware this originated as a webcomic and had no idea what to expect. I thought it would just be cute little comics - and it was! There's a bunny who's a new hire at the cafe and is worried about the job. There's a penguin who LIVES for coffee. A starfish who dreams of actual stars. Over the course of the book, however, it went from cute and wholesome to introspective and thought-provoking, something I definitely wasn't expecting! There are notes to write and affirmations. Really sweet and pure.

Although I read graphic novels once in a while, I don't usually read webcomics, so I had never heard of Cat's Café before. However, the colourful cover grabbed my attention and I decided to give it a go. It must have been the best decision I made all week, because the funny, feel-good stories in this collection were just what I needed during quarantine.

The stories seem simple at first, just a few funny characters and gags, but after a few pages you start to realize these characters actually have pretty defined personalities, be it the coffee-addicted penguin or the anxious bunny. Just like animals were used in fables to teach us moral lessons, here animals helps us see our problems from a distance, and therefore understand ourselves better. There's a character (or two!) out there in which we can see ourselves represented.

The art is a good example of "simple, not simplistic." Comics don't need to be drawn in an hyperrealistic manner to be good, and and the same time, being simple doesn't mean there's no work behind it. The intense colours are lovely, they're like a warm hug (or cup of coffee), and there being little dialogue, the drawing conveys plenty of emotions in subtle ways.

The comic feels modern, it seems to capture the present very well, and yet it is somewhat escapist in that it transports you to a more optimistic place, if only in your mind. It certainly made me chuckle several times. Evidently, I have now followed Cat's Café in social media so I can keep visiting this world when I feel blue.

This book was a delightful break from the current situation in the real world. With clever quips and adorable illustrations, I could hardly keep the smile from my face as I read it all in one sitting.

Wowow this is so adorable!

Cat's Cafe is a collection of 1-2 page snippets of the goings-on of the eccentric animals in a little town. There are lots of cute scenes, but some darker/more real ones too. The animals all work together to lift each other up and help each other out, whether it be to support each other through mental health struggles or to get their next coffee fix.

15/10 extremely wholesome. A great little 20 minute read if you need a wonderfully-illustrated reprieve from the real world.

P.S. This can definitely be used as a "tag yourself" meme. I'm the lonely snake that wants friends and the angrily positive armadillo.

I was unfamiliar with this web comic until I read this book. I loved it! I will be following this comic now for sure. The characters are all cute, but have deep issues. I love how it dives into issues of self esteem, loneliness and mental health issues with wisdom and humor. This comic feels like a nice warm hug and will give you the warm fuzzies.

A heartwarming comic that's more than what I had expected it to be. It's not only lighthearted and adorable, but also deep in a gentle and optimistic way. I adore how bright this comic is, and how it approaches topics like anxiety and self-doubt, negativity and more. The fact that it focuses on the world outside of the cafe is brilliant (because there's always a world outside of a safe bubble), and the way the creator brings it all back to the cafe in the end is just as great too.

Cat's Cafe is the pick-me-up I needed, and I believe it'll be the kind of comic for everyone who needs one as well.

Well if this wasn't the most unexpectedly delightful read ever!

I wasn't familiar with the Cat's Cafe webcomics, so I didn't really have any expectations of this book beyond "cute animals, I guess?". It pretty much won me over with the map of the animals' houses.

... for those who haven't read the book (yet), that's literally the first illustration. xD

The book doesn't have a storyline per se and is definitely a collection of short comic strips, but the core cast of characters stays the same throughout: different animals with their own personalities, quirks and difficulties. The book broaches difficult topics such as mental health, but does it with a kindness and softness that was so extremely warm and fuzzy and wholesome that it melted even my own cold heart.

Snake and Hyena (and Duckie! <3) ware my personal faves, as were Platy, Chameleon and Fox, but, really, all of the characters were ridiculously adorable and relatable!

A+, would read again, will likely buy a paper copy to keep around.

Based on the popular webcomic, Cat’s Café, this book introduces new and old readers to the adorable citizens of this world. There's Penguin, who has a bit of a coffee problem; Rabbit, whose anxiety sometimes overwhelms him; Axolotl, whose confidence inspires his friends; the always-supportive Cat, who provides hot drinks made with love and a supportive ear for anyone's troubles.

I was delightfully surprised by this collection of comics. Not because it was cute, I mean it’s about cats; cats who make coffee...a dream come true in my book! But it is full of positive moments, kindnesses that I wish were more common amongst humans, a Penguin who reminded me of myself when I need coffee, and one little cute Rabbit who needs a hug--often.

It is the perfect remedy for these scary times and the loneliness some of us in quarantine are feeling because of the isolation.

I loved this! Grab a copy, a good cup of coffee, and experience the warm fuzzies.

I received this book free from Andrews McMeel Publishing and Netgalley for my honest, unbiased review.

Oh my golly gosh this book was SO adorable!! The art style was wonderful, I wanted to hug all the animals, they're the freaking cutest. I loved how it was funny and relatable it was but also taught to teach some valuable life lessons and give advice. I loved how it dealt with mental illness and the structure. I loved all the coffee and the cafe element. Ughhh just so great and I'm very glad I read this one. Definitely a graphic novel you won't want to miss!

Thank you to Andrew McMeel Publishing and Netgalley for access to the digital ARC.

Cat's Cafe is simply wonderful! It handles the subject of mental health and depression in a way I have not seen before in this format. If I could rate it higher than a 5 stars I would.

This book (or collection of comics, I suppose) starts off as probably the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. Cat owns a cafe, Penguin drinks a lot of coffee, and all of their cute friends did cute things that made me smile.

Then it became apparent that many of the characters were struggling with their mental health and coping mechanisms and that was unexpected but very appreciated! I related to Rabbit’s anxiety most of all, and I really loved the message that it’s okay to be sad, it’s okay to be anxious, it’s okay to cry… and it’s okay to lean on your friends for support.

This was a really great collection and if you love cute animals, you’ll probably love it too.
