This collection of comics is an adorable illustration of the importance of friendship (and coffee) for being able to get through life and find the happy moments in everyday. Tarpley explores these relationships and their impacts on our mental health through bright illustrations and an eclectic collection of characters who all support one another in reaching their dreams. This is definitely a collection of comics that I'll be recommending and revisiting.
Such a cute, adorable read. I read this in one sitting and I really love how this tackles mental health in a light, positive way.
This was deeply adorable! It's the kind of small graphic novels I definitely see myself rereading from time to time whenever I feel low!
Such a wonderful, wonderful comic this is! Cat's Café isn't just super cute, it's also wise and inspiring.
I'd say that this is close to the perfect how-to-guide for self-acceptance for both children and adults alike. Adorable drawings, fun and clever "plots" for each of the comic strips. Just lovely and brilliant!

This was such a cute collection of comics! Originally I figured it would be considered a kid's title due to the adorable art style, but the more I read the more I realized it was probably meant for adults due to its (positive) discussion of mental health. I read this one during the pandemic, so it was a nice breath of fresh air for the time.
Pure, wholesome, feel-good comic that will put a smile on your face in the times we are living in today. The comic touches on tough topics on different mental health issues. You’re sometimes asked to examine your own mental health but in a super relatable way. Overall, I’m obsessed with Cat and Penguin’s characters and would recommend this comic to anyone and everyone!

Cat's Cafe is an adorable collection of comics with cute characters!
It was a short and lovely read. Much recommended to those in a reading slump.
Illustration books rock!
Thank you, Netgalley for the free eArc in exchange for an honest review.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review which has not altered my opinion of this book.
This is honestly one of the cutest and most heartwarming book I have read in a very long while. The cast of characters was so diverse as far as just about everything. There is depiction of anxiety, depression, deafness, love, and so much more! All of these characters bring their unique personalities to Cat’s café and e get to see how the interact and it is wonderful.
This whole story is so inspiring and encouraging and I really enjoyed everything that it had to offer and I can’t help but recommend it everyone. It’s so cute and wonderful and you should go read it now! I give this 5 out of 5.
Huge thank you to Netgalley for providing me an e-ARC of this book!
I adore this book. Plain and simple. It's a series of short comic strips that sometimes directly relate to one another and sometimes not, but they all feature the same cast of characters, starting from Cat who owns a cafe, Penguin who is obsessed with coffee to Rabbit who struggles with anxiety.
At first I thought that Cat's Cafe is a cute comic collection that little children would easily enjoy with the art style and very short strips that are easy to understand. And that remains true, but Cat's Cafe is more than that. Cat's Cafe also explores a myriad of issues, such as lack of self-esteem, seasonal depression and mental illnesses. It reminds us that we are not alone fighting these mental illnesses, and is just a general reminder for us to look after ourselves.
I think Cat's Cafe is a comic collection that is not only suitable, but also should be read by people of all ages. As someone who is mentally ill, it hits home on a couple of counts, but it still made me smile and feel good by the time I finished the book. Perhaps it's the constant reminder through the comics that while it is absolutely okay to feel lost and sad, we will get better over time, or perhaps it's just the adorable art style. Whatever it was, it was definitely worth the read.
Also, I would especially recommend this to people who enjoy Animal Crossing and Winnie the Pooh!
I've loved so much this comic!
Cat's Cafe is not only about some cutie little animals that love coffe. Every character has his own issues that often leads him to isolate himself and not to have confidence in himself.
But with friendship and self love problems seem to be easier to deal with.
Matt Tarpley's drawing style is simple but effective! The color palette makes a lot of the various sets of soul of the characters.
I've found a lot of positive vibesthat made me happy during the reading. Sometimes I've cried. I was in love with all of the characters (even Whale and Axolotl that are animals that I don't like).
I hope there will be other books about this little animals and their slice of life.
EVERYONE PLEASE READ THIS COMIC BOOK!
I've probably seen one or two of the comic strips in this book on Tumblr and Twitter and thought them cute and sweet but didn't know how profound, how wise, how joyful all of this would turn out to be. It was a great comfort and in the last weeks to read about sweet little critters being quirky, finding friends, battling anxiety and depression. This book makes me so happy! Also, now I have a new gift idea for so many of my friends!
Love this book. I found the little characters relatable, witty, and cute. Would buy it for a personal collection, but not for the library.
I love cats, so I couldn't stop reading this comic. It's a light read, it's fun and, a highlight for a HQ, it works well as an e-book too. I confess that I expected a little more history in reading, it has a lot of image, but little text and little involvement with the story itself. But it was still fun to read.
This books is adorable. I enjoyed the different scenes and how the characters interacted with each other. Great themes. Our high school students are going to love this one.
"No matter how you look, how you love, or how you live - all are welcome!"
I have been following the Cat's Café comics for years now, so reading its first collection was more of a recap for me. Still, I smiled at each strip and was warmed by them as if I had read them for the first time. It was wonderful to reread the earlier comics, seeing the art style develop, all characters to come together - and it is wonderful that this collection exists so that all the adventures of the Cat's Café characters can be found and enjoyed by many more.
The Cat's Café characters are lovely in their diversity, not only because they are all different animals but because everyone has its own distinct personality, their own struggles and fears and strengths - and with these struggles, fears, and strengths the reader can identify themselves: anxiety, panic disorders, self-doubt, lack of confidence, depression, feeling left out or lonely, communicative problems, etc. Or more light-hearted struggles such as deadlines. There is also a deaf character. And despite their differences and their struggles, they are all treated the same: With kindness and love, support and patience. None of them is diminished; all of them are seen and acknowledged. Cat, Rabbit, Hyena, Penguin, Whale, Kiwi, Otter, and all the others support each other, guide each other through their storms as best as they can.
There are light-hearted strips; there are ones which deal with more pressing topics. The former to make you smile, the latter to make you feel seen and acknowledged in your struggles. And the support you see depicted in the collection is also offered to you - directly in one strip, indirectly in all the others.
These comics are for sunny days to make the day brighter, for rainy ones to ease the clouds away.
These comics are there to help you out of your storm, to guide you to better days filled with warmth. Little by little. As best as they can.
5/5 stars - would forever recommend
I stumbled upon Cat's Cafe by Matt Tarpley while looking up some other books on Netgalley. It look like a cute read so I decided to download it. Let me just say I enjoyed reading it. Who doesn't like coffee shops and cute animals?!
The author did a great job with this graphic novel. He covered issues like depression and anxiety to self confidence and friendship. It was done in an adorable and wonderful way.
I definitely think this book would make a good gift.
Cat's Cafe is a collection of short comic vignettes featuring a group of cute little animal friends. This is a great book for this stressful time. The comics are adorable and full of uplifting messages. The artwork is very cute, colorful and appealing. While the tone overall is positive and upbeat, the book isn't too saccharine. I recommend this to anyone looking for a quick escape.
This is such a cute story with a lot of inspiration! I really enjoyed the illustrations and the characters have really great personalities.
Can this book be any more delightful? Sometimes the greatest lessons are found in the simplest books. If you love animals and coffee and happiness, this is the book for you.
Ok I won't lie, I wanted to read this simply because of the title and the fact that there are a range of animals portrayed, including a cat and a penguin, but I'm so glad I picked it up. This collection features short comics revolving around the same group of animal characters, all with different personality traits and struggles. The central theme that connects them is that they live in the same community and frequent the same cafe (owned by Cat!).
There are tons of little discussions regarding anxiety, self confidence issues, depression and more. Each comic was a great snapshot into different situations and were full of inspiration and heartwarming messages.
