A great psychological thriller. These are my favourite genre of books to read. This was a real page turner and didn’t disappoint me
‘You think he’s the love of your life. He isn’t who you think he is. You’re in danger.’
Amy is weeks away from marrying Matt, and on the surface it looks like they have the perfect relationship. From the start, there’s a real sense of unease in the story, and when Matt doesn’t come home after a late work meeting, Amy knows something is wrong.
There are quite a lot of red flags about Matt, and typically, Amy is blindsided by her apparent love for him. When another woman is also wondering where Matt is, she realises that their relationship wasn’t what she thought it was.
You don’t know who to believe or trust as there are so many conflicting accounts.
I felt sorry for Amy initially, but grew a bit fed up with her character. I didn’t warm or relate to any of the other characters either which was a shame.
The story is mostly set in the present day, but there are flashbacks to the 90s, where a little subplot is created. Eventually this links up to the main story and you get the full picture. I quite liked this and it wasn’t confusing to follow.
Some parts were a little predictable and took away from the mystery.
This was an easy enough read which held my interest. The ending was a bit of an anticlimax and underwhelming considering all the build up and intrigue.
Thanks to Avon Books UK and NetGalley for my copy.
I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book had an amazing plot, but I felt the characters were a bit hard to connect to.
Thank you kindly to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for this review copy.
Exciting book to read. The book had me hooked from the first page. It was fast paced. Had my heart racing more than once. The book is very well written.
Trust no-one! An unpredictable thriller. A little abrupt ending but a gripping story overall; whose version will you believe?
Absolutely loved this book! Was fast paced and did not know what was coming next! I would definitely recommend this book to other readers. Thank you for letting me have the opportunity to read this on netgalley
The flags were there and so was that gut feeling but how to prove it? It was good enough as a thriller, although it just didn't surprise me. Something that I don't like about thrillers is when the intensity of the thrill is prolonged and it just drags on only to have a short, abrupt end.
Amazing thriller I don't know why it took me so much to read this. Maybe with everything that happens with the pandemic I was more inclined to read fantasy or sci-fi.

Thank you so much to netgalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review
This is how you write an intelligent, unpredictable psychological thriller, it’s gripping from beginning to end! It’s very well written with a good pace, there are some excellent twists and turns with the whole package giving you prickles of fear right from the start.
Amy is blissfully happy. Or is she? Amy is due to marry the man of her dreams in a fortnight's time. Or is she? Amy is the only woman in Matt's life. Or is she? Amy is the grieving individual who initiates a missing person's investigation. Or is she? All of these made for a fast paced fun thriller!
Another thriller that I could not put down! I really enjoyed this and would highly recommend this to anyone. I do believe the first half was much stronger than the second though.
A great read, keeps you guessing all the way to the end. Really good twists. Can't wait to read more from the author!
Matt and Amy have a seemingly perfect relationship and everything is set to go ahead for their wedding. When Matt disappears two weeks before his wedding to Amy, all the clues point to a sinister conclusion. Even worse, they point to Amy's involvement.
This is a gripping tale of lies, gaslighting and dark pasts brought to light as well as toxic friendships and several lives destroyed. Amy clearly has secrets in her past that she hasn't shared with her daughter, Jess. And the story filters down more information over each chapter. It's very much a story of unreliable narrators and skewed perspectives. Abuse and gaslighting play a small part in The Vow.
Initially I was mystified as to where Matt could have gone but as more was uncovered about Amy's past, it became easier to work out that there was more to the story than we thought. And there was definitely a lot more to the story!
The storyline is punchy, but there was something missing towards the end as the focus falls a lot more on Jess doing more of the police work than the police themselves. I also couldn't bring myself to work out who Amy was - she was a major contradiction and while it's intriguing to read about an unreliable character, it took Jess' perspective to shed more light on what Matt was really like.
As with all thrillers, I found myself whizzing through the book and it made for interesting reading, but there were too many loopholes to make it a seriously compelling read.
I enjoyed this book. The first half was really strong and I felt it slowed/dragged on too much for the second half. It wasn’t enough to put me off from finishing it but kept me from being too excited when I picked it up to read. I’ll definitely read more by this author but I don’t necessarily feel strongly recommending this particular book.
WoW ........I couldn't put this book down. The Vow by Debbie Howells was an excellent read that had me hooked from the begin till the end. This story had my full attention and I read it in one sitting I could not put it down! Superb book with lots of great twists and turns throughout!
I highly recommend this book and looking forward reading Debbie's next book which I started today.
Big thanks to NetGalley and publisher Avon Books UK for the ARC.
I had to DNF this book as I couldn't get into the story at all or connect with the characters. A real shame but this book was just not for me.
This psychological thriller is centred around Amy and her fiancée Matt.. The first half of this book was really enjoyable and I couldn’t put it down. I love a good mystery centred around a character leading a double life, the secrets, scandals that are behind it usually make for captivating reading, but after I started the middle half it all went downhill. It started to get boring, repetitive and very unrealistic. I did like the writing style of the author and will check out more works, but this wasn’t it I’m afraid.
Thank you to Avon Books UK and Netgalley for my ARC.
Loved it. So many twists and turns, revelation after revelation. Once I picked it up, it was impossible to put down. Will definitely read more from this author.
This is a book that grabs you from the word go. Although it was a tad predictable, it was a delightful read nonetheless. I enjoyed reading the book and would love to read more from the author. Definitely recommended.
The Vow was was full of twists and turns and while I thought the resolution was a bit convoluted I did enjoy reading this one. The characters were for the most part likable and you could route for them, but the back and forth between now and then was a bit confusing and didn't make a lot of sense until the very end
