Amy is shocked when a complete stranger stops her on the street to inform her that her life is in danger. That night, her fiancee, Matt disappears. With no sign of Matt, the wedding is canceled, but then a woman named Fiona reports her lover missing. The man matches Matt’s description and Fiona tells police he was about to leave his fiancee to be with her. Amy can’t believe that Matt was betraying her, but she gets evidence in the form of photos of Fiona and Matt together. Clearly, he was living two different lives, but what happened to him? This is a clever, sly mystery that I really enjoyed

With The Vow you get double the amount of story for your book!

Okay, the synopsis. Yes it’s perfect. As soon as I read it I knew this was a book I had to read, if the lovely team at Avon hadn’t approved me for an ARC this was a book I was going to buy.

Luckily we didn’t get to that, ARC approved let’s dive in....

Amy is due to get married in a couple of weeks but then her fiancé doesn’t come home one evening after work. Where has Matt got to? Shockingly another woman reports Matt as missing as well. Who is this other woman? What happened to Matt?

Amy while a little naive is written perfectly. I really felt for her reading The Vow. Her daughter Jess was a great input as well. Really impressed with how this story fooled me with red herrings!

There’s a remarkable little story within a story which I enjoyed. Set in 1996 it’s all connected to the present events, but how?

It sucked me in from its suspenseful starting but it's ending was predictable. Although it's a good read for thriller fans.
Amy is two weeks away from her marriage with Matt. They are a happy couple, at least she could think so but she didn't know that Matt was living two lives at the same time. Matt is not what she thinks he's. A woman told her to stay away from him but she was truly in love with him. And then one day Matt was disappeared.
Without any trace of him,Amy was worried where her love was gone and finally she contacted police.
WPC Page and DI Lacey started the investigation and soon they told her that there is another woman who reported a person missing with me a matching description to that of Matt's.
Stunned, shocked Amy denied to believe it and then started the web of lies.
Amy and Fiona are suspects of the police. They both denied of killing Matt and told them that the other woman is trying to frame them.
Its ending was predictable easily but the author's execution is good. Her characters were suspenseful although the final twist was not able to surprise me. It was not worthy.
Thanks to NetGalley and Avon for giving me an advance copy of this good psychological thriller.

This novel keeps you guessing until the very end. Amy and Matt have 2 weeks until their wedding when Matt goes missing. Matt has been cheating on Amy with Fiona who also reports him missing. This is the story of their relationships and the hunt to find him. There is good procedural information by the inspectors so the novel would appeal to mystery fans, as well as thriller fans because the antagonist is not readily discovered. The two women has similar backgrounds which add to the plot. The book has twists and turns as well as psychological aspects. I enjoyed the novel. It kept my interest right along.

Two weeks before Amy’s wedding, Matt her fiancé doesn’t come home. As she looks for him she starts to find out all is not as it seems.
This book is everything a good suspense novel should be. Writing that drew me in from the first sentence, an interesting multi layered plot building and twisting until the last page, and a satisfactory conclusion that pulls everything together. Not to mention characters who keep you off balance and you’re not quite sure which one to believe.
The cover s a perfect fit for the story too.

Not a bad book at all! Lots of shocking discoveries to light when true identities are revealed. The true culprit over all was a little predictable to me.

This is a very good domestic thriller and the first book I’ve read by this author.
The plot is fast paced and there are plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing throughout.
I’ll be looking out for more books from this author in future.

"Nature perseveres...until balance is restored." Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. Amy was leading a seemingly perfect life, or so everyone thought, until her fiance disappeared. An ever twisting tale of deceit, lies and secrets. A masterfully crafted whodunit that will keep you guessing until the end. The characters are so well written that I was invested in the story immediately. By the middle of this story I couldn't put it down. The first person writing really made me feel like I knew Amy. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes thrillers and murder mysteries!

From the first page of this book, I was hooked. I didn't want to stop reading. I carried the Ipad with me as I did my steps...couldn't wait to get back to the story when I was cooking. Once in awhile, I come across a book that puzzles me...this one did. Although I determined the outcome early on, it was still a good read. The main character was a naïve woman who didn't trust herself-and others didn't either. The book is character driven with little thought given to the setting, although that is fine for this genre. The character I liked the best was Jess, the daughter. She was intuitive, smart, and strong. She cared about her mom, and she saw through the boyfriend early on. When others gave up on her mom, she did not. Although I enjoyed reading this novel, I did not like the story in italics. I did not like giving background that way. There was some language that was not necessary. That being said, if one can get by that, this book is one that will cause the reader to stop and think-why do men want to abuse women? Trying to discern the ending is a good way of learning that all mysteries are not the same. This author has honed her craft, and I hope she will write more in this genre. However, I hope she might refrain from using the words that most of us just don't need to read. They take away from the story. As one reads, all of a sudden a character blurts out...not necessary...after all of this...read the book...understand the protagonist...feel for her...wonder if she is a murderer or not...or a victim...read read read and enjoy. Just an afterthought, I loved the part about the gaslighting...few write about that anymore...

When you think your life couldn't be more perfect and you're about to marry the man you love, what could possibly go wrong? When Matt doesn't come home one night, Amy gets worried and eventually has to report him missing.
Fiona also reports Matt missing a few days later. Both of them claiming to be in a relationship with Matt. Where is he and who is to blame for his disappearance?
The Vow has many twists and turns and had me guessing throughout. as Amy is arrested for the murder of Matt, her and Fiona's past become intertwined. When both ladies were children, someone died and could that have something to do with Matt disappearing?
I was impressed with how the writing led me to think different scenarios right up until the last page.

Amy and Matt are getting married in two weeks, everything seems perfect and they are writing their own vows. Matt says he is taking a client out for dinner and will be back late - but he doesn’t return!!

Amy had been warned by a stranger that “she is in danger” but now wonders if the message is connected with Matt’s disappearance.

When the police start to investigate, another woman, Fiona comes forward as her boyfriend Matt has disappeared. Was Matt living a double life?

The story is told from Amy, Fiona and Jess’s (Amy’s daughter) point of view.

I loved everything about this book, its eye catching cover caught my eye, but the story soon had me totally hooked with its suspense and twists along the way.

This is much more than a missing partner story, we have snippets that Matt and Amy’s relationship was not all it initially seems and that they are both hiding secrets from their pasts, that leads to an explosive ending.

I highly recommend this book!!

Amy is a bit dense and a bit lovable. I feel like this book could have been fleshed out a bit more. Amy is just far to naive. It's predictable, however, even though it's a bit predictable, you can't help but keep reading chapter by chapter to see what is going to happen. That's what a good story is all about in the end. Would recommend to my mystery lovers.

Two weeks before their wedding, Amy's fiance, Matt, disappears.
Soon after, another woman, Fiona, reports her partner missing, and it quickly turns out that the missing man is Matt.
As the police start investigating, Amy's and Fiona's conflicting yet plausible stories don't make it easy for them to find out which of the women is telling the truth, especially as both of them are hiding something.

The story told from multiple perspectives: Amy's, Fiona's and Amy's daughter Jess', is interspersed with a mysterious narrator recounting past events.
This was a fast-paced, suspenseful read that got me hooked very quickly.
It may sound like a standard missing husband/partner thriller but the author managed to find an interesting and gripping premise for the story.
As the plot progresses and the secrets are revealed we learn that Amy's and Matt's relationship not only wasn't all roses but also that neither of the main characters are who we believed them to be at first.
My only reservation lies with the police work, especially the unprofessional way they seemed to treat Jess and their failure to find the clues that Jess discovered by herself.
Other than that, it was a twisty and thrilling read, and I raced through it. I highly recommend it.

Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy. The plot went a different way than I anticipated. There were some good revelations when true identities were brought to light. It has the reader guessing the entire book as to who did it? Good book!

"You'd have saved us all a lot of time if you'd been honest," says one of the people in this story of secrets and revenge. He may speak for readers who are impatient with characters who get themselves into terrible trouble, but who are slow to see or admit any connection to the dark shadows in their past.

If you are not one of those impatient readers, this is a creepy, twisty tale, skillfully told, of a beaten-down woman whose cheating fiancé goes missing on the eve of her wedding. Shocking clues accrue, pointing toward her guilt, including a bouquet of red and white flowers with stems sunk in his blood. When the other woman surfaces, the malevolence intensifies.

If you are one of those impatient readers, you may be frustrated with the way some of the characters react in this book, including the police. Either way, it's a well-told story, and you may particularly enjoy this book if you like gardening, herbs, and the sometimes menacing language of flowers.

Thank you to NetGalley for my copy in exchange for an honest review.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Publishers Avon UK for this ARC for my opinion and review.

This is a fabulous read of intrigue and suspense. Was there or wasn't there a murder?

The reader is taken into the everyday lives of Amy and Jess, mother and daughter. Amy is divorced and through this experience, although there is no description of the divorce, the reader will see that it has left her uncertain of herself and insecure. Had the author included the former husband and divorce details the read would have become bogged down, by not doing so the read concentrates on the main characters and moves quickly. Amy has followed on from her grandmother's vocation and is a practicing herbalist which she has been able to build up into a rewarding business.

There is excitement in the household with the pending marriage between Amy and the fabulous Matt who has moved into the home already. Everything appears to be on track even with a few nerves and supposed anomalies on Amy's behalf. That is, until the day she receives a message from Matt that he will be late home as he has an appointment with a client. When he fails to return home Amy, naturally worried, phones his work only to discover that there was no such appointment.

From here on the book is hard to put down with the intrigue and suspense that follows.

Amy's childhood was traumatised with the death of her sister and in order to cope with this and events surrounding the death and events that followed, Amy has blocked them all out and by reinventing herself has been able to move on with her life. However with the disappearance of Matt, her past begins to unravel, the mystery of the ownership of their home, the stranger that warns her, the woman from her past, reaching the point where she is taken into custody by the Police.

Amy and Matt are getting married. It should be one of the brides most memorable times of her life. And it will be but not because of the wedding. Matt has disappeared. And when Amy reports him missing it comes to light that Matt was living a double life. He has a girlfriend named Fiona who has also reported him missing. So what happened to Matt? Told in different POV's this story was engaging enough to keep me turning the pages. We get to know Matt from three perspectives. I was curious to know if something foul had befallen our groom or if he staged his own disappearance. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.

The Vow by Debbie Howells is a scintillatingly secretive and dark novel swathed in questions, accusations and the need for answers.

In this novel, readers are introduced to Amy Reid, soon-to-be Amy Roche. With the wedding of her dreams just a couple of weeks away, her life is coming together in the most fairy-tale-esque way, and she couldn’t be happier. But isn’t it strange, how absolutely perfect something can appear to be on the surface, when beneath, that is most certainly not the case? Once-divorced, Amy already knows what it’s like to have her heart broken, to be let down in the most life-shattering of ways. Having come away from her first marriage, Amy and her daughter, Jess, who is at Uni, have managed to leave their past behind, and are ready to begin again, albeit with a new man in their lives. But in the space of just 24 hours, everything changes for Amy, and her soon-to-be husband, completely vanishes.

From the get-go, the mystery behind Matt’s disappearance was ultimately what kept me turning the pages, but further down the road, it became clear that there was much more to this novel than the disappearance of a soon-to-be married man. Peppered with snippets from the past, I was constantly kept on my toes, wondering who, what, where and why. I had so many questions, much like Amy, and as the plot progressed, I found myself becoming more and more impatient to have them answered. Once the police become involved, the story takes a much darker turn than I had anticipated, and it dragged me down even further, on -edge to find out where the author would take me next.

Being taken back to the past before being dropped back into the present day is something I adore when reading, and it’s even more sneaky and delicious when it happens within a premise like this. It’s sort of cheating, in a way. The reader gets glimpses of what happened before, and slowly, oh-so-slowly, you can try (emphasis on the word ‘try’) to slot the pieces of the past into whatever is happening in the present, unfolding story. It’s a fantastic way to deliver hints to the reader, and really fleshes out the backbone of the story, giving it a little bit more weight and realism. These flashbacks really got the cogs in my mind turning as I tried to put two and two together. I don’t want to give too much away, but there is so much more to discover within this book than simply what is set before you on the page.

The characters were believable and I enjoyed getting to know each of them. Jess, Amy’s daughter, was a particular favourite of mine. She seemed determined and tenacious and very driven whenever it came to her mother, and I found her to be one of the characters who stood out most to me long after I’d finished the book. Amy, a herbalist, was interesting and I found her to have a lot more layers to her than I’d originally thought. I was rooting for her, and when the plot takes a drastic turn for her much later on, I couldn’t believe what was happening. I really wanted some good to come her way, because I honestly felt that she deserved it. As for Matt, I felt like I knew enough about him to put together a good picture of what he was like. The sort of man women would do well to stay away from. Although not present throughout the novel, Howells did a great job of still managing to make him come to life on the page. There were a handful of others characters too, who really made the story take shape, like Mrs Guthrie and WPC Page, all playing a role in the search for Matt, no matter how big or small.

Overall, The Vow by Debbie Howells was a brilliant novel, with all of those key qualities that ensure a reader sticks with it. I thoroughly enjoyed the journey I was taken on while reading this book, and I would recommend it to any readers out there who love a good mystery/psychological thriller, emphasising the importance of trust and honesty in a relationship, because it doesn’t matter how well you think you know the person you love, sometimes you just don’t know them well enough.

The Book Babe is giving The Vow by Debbie Howells a rating of four out of five. I’d like to thank Avon Books and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced reading copy of this book.

I’d seen so much talk about The Vow on Twitter, so I decided I definitely needed to check it out for myself – as soon as I hear that there’s a new thriller, I’m all over it. And this did not disappoint. The novel jumps between different perspectives – Amy, Fiona (who both claim they are in a serious relationship with Matt, who is missing), Jess (Amy’s daughter), and a mystery narration. Each perspective offers a unique insight into the plot. The best way I can describe it is as different puzzle pieces which eventually all slot together.

The most gripping, and at times frustrating, part of the book, is how there are no hints given as to who is innocent and who is guilty. I kept changing my mind, and it wasn’t until the last few chapters that everything is revealed. I really enjoyed that element of being kept in the dark, it made me feel a lot more involved with the story and characters.

Speaking of characters, they were really well presented and described. Especially Matt – he was really easy to hate, especially when we learn more about his gaslighting and almost psychotic tendencies.

At times, the tense used/the flashbacks included in chapters were slightly confusing, so I think my only criticism is that it could have been made a bit clearer as to when characters were reflecting on the past or speaking about the present.

Overall, I think this is a really strong thriller novel and it had me gripped throughout, I think I read it in about 2 days! Although I wouldn’t say that it’s the best advocate for marriage…

Thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books for providing me with an early copy in exchange for a review!

Debbie Howells certainly knows how to create a suspenseful tale. Amy finds herself at the centre of a missing-person’s case when her fiancée disappears. Is she responsible? Or is the “other woman” in Matt’s life to blame? An enjoyable thriller with many twists and turns!

Two weeks before her wedding, a stranger stops Amy in the street and warns her she’s in danger. Then that night, Matt, her fiancé, doesn’t come home. Desperate, Amy calls the police – but when Matt fails to emerge, she’s forced to call off her wedding day. Then another man is reported missing, by a woman called Fiona – a man meeting Matt’s description, who was about to leave his fiancée for her. He was supposed to be moving in with her – but instead, he’s vanished. Amy refuses to believe Fiona’s lover can be her Matt – but photos prove otherwise, and it soon becomes clear that Matt has been leading a double life. As the police dig deeper, two conflicting, yet equally plausible stories emerge from two women who allegedly have never met.

This is an okay read exploring Amy's relationship with Matt and the truth about them slowly unravels. Part one focuses on Amy telling the story of their relationship and her struggle with accepting the possibility he might have duped her. Then in part two, the truth starts to emerge as we realise all the characters are holding secrets and none of them are being honest about their connection to Matt or how he really behaved.

All of this should have made for a thrilling, intense read but something did not quite translate and I was not hooked or addicted to the read. Howells builds this atmosphere that does not really go anywhere. What could have been a dangerous situation just ends and I was left disappointed by the reveal.

The characters are good and I enjoyed getting to know Amy and Fiona in particular. From early on we know there is more going on than first appears and it was interesting trying to work out what the truth would be. Some of the twists are more obvious than others but none of them are very shocking or electrifying.

'The Vow' is okay but that is the problem, all of this is just okay and there needed to be something extra to really bring some intensity and adrenaline to the read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for an advance copy.

A real page turner. It kept my interest from the first page to the last, and kept you guessing. I liked the way the book was written from the point of view of the main protagonists. It added a different dimension to what you thought you believed had happened. I understand this is a new writer. It is well written. The people are well defined and believable. I can't wait until her next book. Well done.

The story is told from 3 different points of view - Amy, her daughter Jess and Fiona. Initially, you can't help but feel sorry for Amy and what she is going through, but as more and more is revealed about their relationship, you can't believe that she really thought that Matt was so wonderful she wanted to marry him. Talk about fooling yourself!! Amy is a likeable character even though she has "victim" written all over her. Jess loves her mother very much and even though she is not "taken" with Matt she tries to support Amy and be happy for her. Fiona is the "other woman" and an attorney who doesn't come across as a real likeable person. While she is smart and tough, she also gets hood-winked, but you don't ever feel very sorry for her.

I very much enjoyed this book although some elements were somewhat contrived and a little far-fetched. Definitely kept my interest and made me want to finish it to find out how it all came together.

Amy is getting married, she’s counting down the days until she marries the love of her life. Out of the blue Matt disappears just two weeks before the wedding. Distraught and heartbroken Amy reaches out to the police, another woman also reported Matt missing as well. Is Matt leading a double life? This is a well written psychological suspense thriller, I enjoyed the twists and the turns, and many of my suspicions were wrong….. I enjoyed the storyline and the characters, this was the perfect book to escape reality with! Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this book.

When Amy's fiance goes missing two weeks before their wedding, her life is thrown into chaos. Little does she know that Matt's disappearance would upend her life.

A story of betrayals, lies, and a haunted past make up this novel. It has shades of Gone Girl in it, but it's very much its own story. It's hard to know who to trust in this novel, but the characters are well written and the narrative moves smoothly through all the twists and turns without ever becoming so wild that it's unbelievable.

Enjoyed this one. Started off with everything being perfect 2 weeks before a wedding and before you know it, there’s a missing partner and it all starts to go horribly wrong! Lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing. And enough in the story to make you suspect anyone. Really good read. Worth adding to the to read pile. Thank you for letting me review this book.

I received this book from Netgalley for an honest review.
I have to say the author did a great job for her first novel. The characters were engaging, and I found myself liking the two main characters, then hating them. I liked how the police unraveled things as well. There was probably only one thing that bothered me a little, which was the young daughter helping the police. One of the police officers seemed to be on Amy's side, and then not. Yet she listened and seemed to value what Jess, Amy's young daughter would say into the investigation. It just seemed a bit far fetched to me at times.
Other then that the conclusion of the book was good, the ending could've been held out a bit longer for a better surprise, but other then that a great mystery!

Two weeks before their wedding Amy comes home from work and her fiancé Matt, never comes home. Stricken with emotion Amy calls the police. It seems like their idyllic relationship is not as it seems when another woman comes forward to say her partner, Matt, is also missing.
This was a twisty tale that had me thinking who could be involved from Amy’s social circle.
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

I don’t have a lot of expectation about this book but OMG! It really is a great book! I love it a lot!

I keep guessing what is happening but I can’t! Everything is so unexpected. The plot twist is definitely commendable. I love how modern kind of mystery and thriller this is. It’s easily relatable! It had multiple POV which gives you a wide range of what is really happening. About 20% till the book is finish it pulls me in to keep reading more. I love it!

Thank you so much to Netgalley and Avon Publishing for approving me of this book! I’ll write a review in my website sooooon...

Two weeks until she gets married, Amy makes their final plans and looks forward to the special day. But things start to go wrong when a stranger warns her she is in danger. Then her husband-to-be Matt doesn't come home that night, and it soon becomes clear that he is missing and that she will be forced to cancel the wedding. Amy is in contact with the police and is keen to find out what happened to Matt. Then things get even worse when the police advise her that another woman has also reported Matt missing, and claims that they are in a relationship and that he was going to leave Amy and move in with her. Amy doesn't believe it until she sees evidence and realises he has been living a double life. But it seems that this might not be the only secret, and the police and even Amy's daughter Jess do their best to get to the bottom of the story... Who is telling the truth?

This was the first book by Debbie Howells I've read and I absolutely loved it. The style of writing, exciting and intriguing plot, and the interesting characters all had me hooked. The story was full of twists and turns and I liked how it all came together. I really recommend this book and can't wait to read other books by Debbie.

Thanks so much to the publisher, author and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book in return for my honest feedback.

This was a great thriller, felt very fresh and I liked the character voices, especially the daughter. Amy was a little too naive for my liking. I kind of anticipated the ending, but enjoyed the ride.

Thanks to NetGalley and Avon books for providing a review copy, all views are my own.

This fast-paced read tells the story of manipulation, revenge, and sorrow…

The suspense kept me turning the pages and along the way, I lost trust in all characters as their unreliability became quite palpable.

The last revelation was a bit of a let-down but the way everything came together, at the end, was rather satisfying.

All in all, I enjoyed the writing style, the characters, and the storyline and will definitely recommend!

I would like to thank the Publishers, NetGalley, and the Author for sending me an ARC of this book.

An easy read and quite exciting although I don't honestly think that there was much doubt as to the outcome. Good characterisation for the most part although I did feel that Amy was a tad wet and very naive. The time taken for the police to unravel the mystery of the relationships between the various characters did seem rather unlikely, as did their reliance on Jess for Facebook detective work!

Nonetheless I found the story engrossing and very readable.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Publishers Avon UK for this ARC.

I really enjoyed this book. It grabbed my attention immediately and held it all the way through. I thought the story within the story was interesting. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was that I figured out the ending a little too soon for my liking. I loved Debbie Howell's writing style and will look forward to reading more from her.

What can I say about this book without giving too much away? This is the first book I have read from this author and was drawn in. The book starts with Amy and mostly told from her perspective. Amy is a divorcee with a troubled past. Her ex was abusive and she has a deep secret. Amy meets Matt at a party and they start a relationship and are planning to get married. Not long before the wedding Matt goes missing. While the police are investigating the disappearance another woman also files a report that her boyfriend is missing. At this point we learn Matt was having an affair. This is where the book gets really good, how did Amy not suspect her fiancé of having an affair, why was he still planning on marrying her, or was he really planning on leaving her? Where is Matt, is he alive? dead? Who is this other woman and what does she know about Matt? What happened in Amy's past? How does her past tie into her present life? All the twists come together in a neat little package. Looking forward to reading more from this author. Very well written book.

This is one of the best books I've read in a long while and kept me guessing until the very end. Masterfully written story about how your past and your future can be derailed in your present. When your fiancé doesn’t return home after a business meeting less than 2 weeks before your wedding everything is turned upside down. Any reported him missing only to discover another woman reported a man matching his discerption missing as well. Can they be the same person? What does that mean? Was her fiancé cheating on her this close to the wedding? What really happened to him?
It was interesting and easy to read. Thank you to Netgalley for complimentary copy. Thoughts and opinions my own.

Everyone dreams of their wedding day, your dress, cake, flowers, decorations, every detail planned and catered for. Of course not forgetting the groom the man you are deeply in love with, share all of your hopes and dreams with, the man you plan to spend a lifetime with.

Imagine that man not turning up on your long awaited wedding day.

Amy is due to marry Matt in two weeks, everything is going smoothly and they have even created their own vows. One evening Matt says he will be home late as he is having dinner with a client.

Matt doesn't return home, Amy is beside herself with worry- has he been hurt, lost, or even worse killed? It doesn't cross Amy's mind for a second that Matt could be seeing someone else, why would it? They're deeply in love. That is until another woman comes forward and claims her boyfriend also called Matt is missing.

Amy spends day and night frantically and desperately trying to find out what has happened to Matt, it might just occur that he has been keeping secrets and is living a double life.

I really enjoyed this book, it was gripping, addictive and extremely hard to put down.

A big thank you to netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Two weeks before the wedding Amy’s fiancée disappears and from that moment her life will never be the same as a mountain of past and present secrets start to unravel and be revealed for all to see.

From the start of this story I was hooked, I instantly clicked with the characters and feeling the same emotions they were experiencing. The plot line is one of simplicity but elegance as you begin to read through the eyes of other characters other than Amy to get a full picture of the events happening. The sections of what happened in the past being left slightly vague allowing the reader to make their own conclusions whether right or wrong added to the sense of mystery and urgency to get answers.

I must admit within the last sections of the book my guesses of who, why and where were found to be correct and even though I managed to guess these I was not left disappointed as to how the book was overall executed and tied together.

I would recommend this book 100%. I can see this being a good pick for a book club or just for anyone who wants to dive into a mystery to keep you on your toes.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Avon books for the chance to read this ARC.

A thriller with lots of twists and turns, changing narrator and perspective, and little mysteries throughout! I did find the story predictable, but had enough doubt in my mind as to whether my predictions were correct that it kept me reading!

This was a pretty good read for me , I was hooked right from the start and even though I did work out what was happening it didn’t affect my enjoyment .Amy is engaged and her wedding to Matt is growing ever closer , she starts to panic when he fails to return from work one night , growing increasingly worried she calls the police who have some interesting news for her , another woman has also reported Matt missing , Fiona knows about Jess but is adamant that Matt was leaving her and never intending to go through with the wedding . A good fast paced read with some interesting characters and I liked the references included about herbs and flowers . Will definitely look out for more by Debbie Howells

The Vow by Debbie Howells was a nice, twisty read that I didn’t know I needed. Thanks to @netgalley and @avonbooks for an advanced readers copy in exchange for my honest review. Amy is two weeks away from her wedding when her fiancé, Matthew, goes missing. She reports his disappearance to the police only to find out a woman named Fiona had also reported him missing and claimed that Matthew was supposed to be leaving Amy to be with her instead.

I loved this book because it was suspenseful from the start to the end. It’s told from Amy and Fiona’s alternating POVs. There is also an underlying backstory from years ago and we as readers could not be sure how it ties to the present until the end. I had my guesses, but the ending was surprising nonetheless. I thought the story was crafted creatively and the author knew how to build suspense. I also found the different POVs interesting and it was difficult to decide who was more reliable.

A brilliant and engrossing read. I had to slow myself down as I was wooshing through it too fast.

Unreliable narrator? Maybe, there are many different points of view.

Well worth a read. I enjoyed it immensely.

Thank you for the arc of this book. As soon as I read the synopsis, I knew that this would be a book that I loved.....and I did.
This was one of those books that I found that I couldn’t put down and would read for hours.
The story is told from different viewpoints of 3 characters - Amy, Fiona and Jess (Amy’s daughter) and also a character from the past which occasionally pops up in the story.

Amy is due to get married in 2 weeks to Matt her fiancé, life seems pretty good for Amy, until she is mysteriously stopped in the street and told she is in danger, that very same evening Matt doesn’t come home and Amy after deliberating for a night calls in the police, she is very worried.
As it happens another woman Fiona has also called in a missing man, matching Matt’s description, who Fiona says was about to leave his fiancé that night but has left her home and vanished!

Something is amiss, Fiona refuses to believe that Matt could have another woman but evidence (photos) show what Matt really has done, he has been leading a double life. You really do at this point in the story feel sorry for Amy.
As the story continues, something isn’t right, it seems Amy is being framed and it appears that Amy and Fiona may actually have been friends in a previous life. Jess, Amy’s daughter refuses to believe her mother’s guilt and having seen first hand how Matt is with her mother, she is on a mission to prove her innocence.

Fantastic read - great thriller that keeps you guessing until the very end!

Matt and Amy are soon to be wed, the date is set, all the arrangements made, and then, poof! the groom disappears!

Amy is frantic, the wedding is coming up and her fiance is nowhere to be found. On a street she's warned by a stranger that she's in danger and that Matt is not who he says he is. As the story continues, the police begin to investigate and it seems as if Matt has led a secret life unbeknownst to Amy. The story is told from three opinions, Amy, Fiona and (Amy's college aged daughter).

The opera did a fantastic job with character development and a wonderful plot. There was no true Black or White in this book, all the major players had both good and bad sides to them. I highly recommend this book for lovers of psychological thrillers. I stayed up late reading it just because I couldn't put it down.

I would like to thank Debbie Howells, Avon Books UK and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book and exchange for a fair and honest review.

Enjoyed reading this book, kept me on the edge of my seat wondering if the main character was going to go down for the disappearance. Can’t wait to read more from this author

Amy found her perfect man, Matt, whom she would be marrying in two weeks. Her business was doing well. Everything was perfect.
A mysterious encounter with an old lady who warns Amy that everything is not as it seems, marks the start of events that turns Amy’s world upside down. When her fiancé fails to return home after a work meeting Amy is convinced something sinister has happened to him. However, after reporting his disappearance to the police, Amy finds out that another woman has also reported her boyfriend’s disappearance.
The police are convinced that both disappearances are the same person, Matt. But how could it be? Matt and Amy had the perfect relationship, or did they?
The events that follow takes the reader on a cryptic journey which keeps you guessing throughout the book. Debbie Howell, a bestselling author, keeps the reader engaged in the storyline with use of characters with variegated personalities, enabling the reader to picture the characters and events, and virtually live in the pages of the story.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a really fun ride! It centers on Amy, who thinks she has found the perfect man in Matt, but 2 weeks before their wedding, he disappears. Creepy things start happening around the same time, including a complete stranger stopping Amy on the street and telling her that she is in danger. The reader starts finding out more about the situation, Matt, and their relationship, which causes more questions than answers. I love a story with an unreliable narrator, and this book gives you not one, but two! There are also flashbacks to 1996 weaved throughout the book, leaving the reader to guess the significance of those events (and the players involved) as it relates to the current situation.

Amy was a little naive, but kind of sweet in her unwavering support of Matt. Though I was sometimes frustrated with her (and in a couple cases, EXTREMELY frustrated with her), she was still likeable and I felt empathetic to her. I really liked her daughter, Jess, and thought she was a great character. The author also did a great job of introducing Fiona and toying with the reader around which character is being truthful.

I did figure out the twist in the story long before the characters did, but it was satisfying to be proven right and didn't really deflect from my enjoyment of the story. I also thought the police were a little slow on the uptake to some of the things that happened, where it should have been much quicker and easier to track down the info they were seeking.

All and all, this was a fun and twisty read and I finished it in less than a day. I'd definitely recommend this book to those who like mysteries and domestic suspense. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The book starts of sweet and innocent. The couple is planning their wedding, and then the groom just disappears. Amy, the wife to be, is frantic and starts looking for him. Soon she discovers a lot of secrets that she didn't see coming, and discovers that her husband is not the man she thought him to be, in all respects.
Highly recommended, gripping from beginning to end! Recommended.

Also, loved Amy's daughter, Jess, that girl has gumption!

This is a really good read. It started well and gathered speed from very early on. It was well written and thoroughly gripping. I did not want to put it down. Eeriness set in immediately when Amy was stopped and told that she was in danger. Then Matt not returning home assed to the suspense. I too couldn't believe that Matt was the man Fiona was referring too and couldn't believe it when Amy confirmed his identity from the photographs. It was in no way far fetched. I could not wait to reach the end so that I could fit all the pieces of the puzzle together. I really enjoyed this book. I give it a very healthy and well deserved 4 stars!!.

Wow so this is the first book I have read from this author and I really enjoyed it. When Amy’s fiancé Matt doesn’t come home after a meeting Amy’s life is thrown into turmoil as she tries to discover what has happened to her partner only and when the police come round she finds out that maybe her perfect Matt was not quite the person she thought he was. As her life starts to spin out of control and she ends up looking like the guilty party will she ever find out what is happening and has something awful happened to Matt and if not where is he. This book is full of twists and turns and kept me guessing until the very end.

A psychological thriller about Amy, an herbalist, who is weeks away from getting married when her fiancé vanishes. Each section (as there are no real chapters) is told from a different character’s perspective. There is someone from the past who is giving background which is necessary for the story to reach its conclusion. The book is hard to put down and has stayed with me as I look back at the clues that were weaved into the story.

The Vow by Debbie Howells is exactly the kind of story that pulls me in immediately and keeps me fully engaged. Told from several points of view, we meet Abby, a woman who is thrilled to be marrying her fiance, Matt. But when Matt unexpectedly leaves one night telling Amy to 'take care', she feels that something just isn't right. These are not the parting words of a man who is madly in love and excited to jump into holy matrimony. When Matt has not returned by the next morning, Amy knows immediately that this is not a case of her betrothed sleeping it off somewhere for a night. Matt has disappeared. Amy's daughter Jess is not altogether shocked by the news. Something has always niggled about her mother's relationship, and this is her chance to expose Matt for the man she believes him to be. When another woman reports that her boyfriend has also gone missing, the description she provides is too similar to be a mere coincidence. Just who is Matt, where has he gone, and what is he trying to hide?

This is a twisty tale that held my attention for the first 70% of the book, but then things started to unravel somewhat. The storyline went a little astray, and I could not suspend my disbelief quite enough to be fully satisfied with the way things wrap up. All in all, this is a solid read, and I will look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for this ARC.

The Vow is an incredibly tightly woven tale of murder, deceit, police investigations, and ultimately resolution. Debbie Howells tell the story of how Matt's disappearance/murder is pinned onto Amy, his fiance. We find out in time that Amy doesn't really know her fiance well at all, and the plot thickens with the revelation of a horrific event that happened many years ago. These people are not whom they seemed to be, and Howells does and incredible job of tying the past events with current allegations and identities.

I recommend this book to all who love a great "whodunnit"!

Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book.

I loved this book! 5 stars! A page turner! Amy and Matthew are supposed to get married. Then Matthew disappears and Amy reports to the police later to find out another woman reports her boyfriend missing that winds up being Matthew as well. Matthew was a two timer! What happened to Matthew? Was he murdered? No body? What's up? Lots of twists and turns. Then later revealed the two women have a connection that takes us to another mystery in the past that ties things together and brings a conclusion you won't see coming.

Amy and Matt are getting married and everything is coming together. Matt takes a work partner out for a dinner and says he will be back late but he never comes home. Another woman comes forward reported her boyfriend missing with the same exact description as Matt and that starts to make Amy wonder if Matt is leading a double life. Amy then sees photos of Matt and Fiona together and really starts to wonder what is going on.

This was a pretty darn good thriller with a heck of a lot of twists, turns, thrill and suspense. Amy and Matt are 2 weeks away from their wedding and Amy is warned in the street by a stranger that she is in danger. Matt appears to have disappeared! She learns Matt is hiding some secrets, but she has some of her own as well. The story is told in Amy and Jess' (her daughter) point of view.

What do you do when your fiance suddenly disappears? And then you find out he's not at all who he seemed? These questions and more are asked and (potentially) answered in The Vow. Right from the first few pages, I was pulled in and wanted to devour this book. It has multiple view points, and an almost Girl on the Train quality to it. It's very very quite good.

The Vow publishes October 15, 2020.

This was an edgy thriller which kept me gripped to the end. Amy is happily looking forward to her wedding in two weeks,to the apparently perfect Matt. However, when he fails to return home from a meeting with a client, Amy's whole world is turned on its head. Matt has disappeared in to thin air! As the police investigate , everything they uncover reveals Matt wasn't the perfect boyfriend Amy had thought. A second woman reports him missing and claims Matt was leaving Amy to be with her. However each new deception they uncover, provides more motive for Amy to have murdered him. Each new lead wraps the handcuffs tighter around her wrist. Nothing and no-one is as they seem . I was totally absorbed to the last page. The tensions build layer upon layer to the brilliant denouement at the end. Yes I partially guessed the ending but it was revealed in such a clever way, that it could have gone in several different directions. I heartily recommend!

Two weeks before her wedding, Amy finds a piece of paper on the kitchen table that reads Matt's wedding vow to her......it says "then when I can no longer be with you, a part of me will always be there watching over you" Amy at first questions this but resolves with of course Matt is always looking out for her.....then a stranger literally grabs Amy's arm and tells her someone is watching you, you think he is the love of your life, he isn't who you think he is...as Amy is running away, the lady yells Watch your back don't trust him....then Matt disappears...and another woman reports Matt's missing....who is Matt, why did he disappear? Thank you to netgalley for the opportunity to read The Vow. I'll start by saying that i enjoyed this book. It focuses alot on gaslighting and narcissistic tendencies. I enjoyed the storyline and that it highlighted on that subject. I just found that the story took a while to get going and i didnt really feel there was masive twists and turns so it all felt a little anticlimactic at the end as i was waiting for some big twist that didn't really happen. The ending did come across aa very rushed. Yes it was a good book but i think it lacked in suspense

I really enjoyed this book. I hadn't intended to read it so soon but when I started I found it hard to stop. The book is told from three different points of view and also brief glimpses of a past story. It's very well written and the characters, although uniformly loathsome, apart from Jess are well rounded and three dimensional. I wouldn't say there were twists as such more an unravelling of past secrets. It's very well done (a few hmmm moments) but overall I did like the pace of the plot and the flow of the storyline.
A few negative points that I'd suggest addressing for the final book-
1. WPC was officially stopped in 1999. Please alter-Page is a police officer- that's it
2. Please consider culling at least three quarters of the word "frown". This became exceptionally annoying and detracted from what is otherwise a great story

Layout not too bad but there are some spelling errors and layout improvements could be made
As half stars are not an option (I would give 4.5) I have given 4 stars

The Vow centers around Amy, whose fiancée disappears 2 weeks before their wedding. Amy reports him missing, then the police are startled to discover another woman also reports him missing, and this woman claims the fiancée was about to break things off with Amy and move in with her. And so starts this intriguing page-turner, as the twists are layered in, and the reader is hooked! Loved the premise, and the author unfolds the story slowly and deliberately, keeping the reader on edge, as we try and solve the disappearance along with the police. Great story, no fluff paragraphs, a nice easy read that will keep you guessing. I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through @NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Amy and Matt’s wedding is two weeks away. One evening he calls to say he’ll be home late as he’s been asked to have dinner with an American client. But Matt never returns. Earlier that day, Amy is stopped by an older woman who warns her about Matt and says her life is in danger. Matt’s boss knows nothing about this dinner arrangement and then another woman reports her partner missing and from her description it’s clearly Matt. How has he managed to live a double life? Why did Amy have no clue this was going on? At first she has great difficulty in finding anything out. It appears he has covered his tracks well. But where is he? And why has he abandoned the woman who swears he was about to leave Amy and make a new life with her?
The story is told from three perspectives – Amy, her daughter Jess and childhood friend Fiona, who is now a lawyer. I spent time see-sawing between the two characters who were ‘persons of interest’, not sure who was innocent and who was guilty and how they tied in with Matt’s disappearance. It’s a real roller coaster of a read which keeps you guessing right until the end.

In trying to discover what has happened to Matt, the police begin to unearth secrets of Amy’s teenage years; which make her a prime suspect in her fiancé’s disappearance. You get a flavour of her past throughout the book, which reveals a time of jealousy, unrequited love and reckless behaviour. Recklessness which ultimately leads to disaster.

Highly recommended

Two weeks until Amy and Matt’s wedding and then suddenly the groom vanishes. What follows is a mystery full of suspense and surprise. After years f being alone, Amy meets Matt just as her daughter Jess is starting college. In little over a year they are engaged and Amy thinks she is destined for the perfect life. Overnight it slowly unravels. Lies, deceit, hurt feelings and a need for revenge are all revealed. Long buried secrets return from the past. All leading to a surprise ending. The author does a wonderful job of keeping the reader guessing what the truth is and who did what until the very end. Several ugly truths about relationships and friendship are revealed. Sometimes we only see what we want to see. Thus allowing these half truths, omissions and deception to be woven into our so called perfect world. It is only when we look at the true situation that clarity can be revealed and shaped into our reality. Great book! Thank you NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

Firstly a big thank you to Avon for approving my netgalley request to read. I have read her books under a different publisher so was interested to see how avon would direct her books.

I loved it and highly recommend if you like your thrillers twisty and unpredictable.

Cleverly written and told from different perspectives. This keeps it fresh and interesting as theres more than one side to the story

A perfect couple about to get married or is there more to them than meets the eye.

Fast paced and thrilling as time runs out to find the truth.

Amy had been alone for awhile before meeting Matt and is excited to marry him in a couple of weeks. Her hopes are dashed when Matt disappears without a trace. Then she finds out that another woman has reported Matt missing too, and he has been living a double life. To add insult to injury, the police start looking at Amy as a suspect.

This was a quick read with an interesting premise. I think the end could be considered a bit far fetched but that is what happens with suspense thrillers, so I was ok with it. Overall a good fast read. I would consider reading more from this author.

The synopsis of this book really got my attention and Promised to be a gripping psychological thriller. The first part of the book didn’t hook me though and it took sometimes for things to get interesting. The characters were well written and developed, but the plot twists a little bit predictable. Overall I’ve enjoyed the book and it was a good read.

This is the first book I have read by Debbie Howells and it isn't going to be the last. Gripping from the start with so many twists and red herrings that I had no idea how all the ends were going to be tied up. Well, I did....................but I was wrong. This would make a great film. Highly recommended

This is the first book I've read by this author and it didn't disappoint. Amy is head over heels in love with her fiancee Matt. Amy starts to plan her wedding with her wedding planner and she thinks everything is perfect, until Matt does a disappearing act. What follows is plenty of tears, lies, deceit and double lives. It gripped me and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. It's utterly brilliant with twists I weren't expecting. It's an addictive read and beautifully written. I'd highly recommend if you like psychological tension, drama, mystery and intrigue.

✨ We are bound together forever by the vow we made. ✨ - this quote summed the book up for me.

What a brilliant book! I literally whizzed through this book because I found it so hard to put down! I was hooked by Amy's life tbh, I felt so sorry for her and things were just so against her! The twists literally kept coming, some parts were predictable but then other parts I did not see coming!! It was a brilliant Thriller and one of the best I've read for soo long!

The blurb got me straight away, because to me it literally made me think this is definitely going to be good but I would've never guessed how everything pieces together and how the story ends. It really was amazing and I cannot wait to get my physical copy of the book! 😍

Herbalist Amy is looking forward to her wedding to business consultant Matt in 2 weeks time. He calls late morning to tell her that he needs to take a client to dinner. He doesn't return home..

A dark, fast-paced psychological thriller. I read it in a single sitting. I did work things out well before the end though, and it was maybe a little too pat. I greatly enjoyed it nevertheless.

Amy is left by fiance Matt 2 weeks before their wedding when he mysteriously disappears. She reports him missing and then things start to change rapidly.
Really liked the characters and was a tantalising read. Thought I had it all figured out and then that backfired on me.
Well worth the read. Cover reminds me of another book I have read this year.

Clever, intriguing and thrilling right from the start.

I read this book in two sittings, I couldn't put it down. Right away it grips you before anything has even happened!

The Vow is about a man who is due to marry his bride in two weeks but goes missing. The case solved by his daughter and police who have to work their way through his web of lies.

Thank you Netgalley and Avon publishers for the ARC copy of this book.

At the start of this book I thought it was going to be more of a chic lit story but as it progressed things become much darker and more menacing. I did expect the character, Cath, to be something more, even to the extent of not being a true friend to Amy, but in the end she developed only as a friend and support, subesequently to Jess. as well. Apart from the mention of Matt making a pass at her she was someone in the background who didn't really add anything. The plot developed well with glimpses into the past where Matt treated Amy with less than love and respect. However I strongly felt that where Amy was seen as a victim all the way through, despite our learning about the feted antics that she and Alison got up to in their jealously of Kimberley and her love of Charlie., in a lot of ways Matt was even more of a victim which was never really accepted.. He wss portrayed as a sociapath, using women with his manipulative personality and pretending to feel love as a means to an end. Yet if we look at his early life as a young teenager, his brother's girlfriend is murdered, his brother consequently commits suicide himself, then his mother does the same, his father loses his business and ends up in desperation so Matt is left with a life that totally fell apart at the hands of Emily and Alison. I do wish some sympathy would have been shown to Matt because of this chain of events that destroyed his life. Of course he was going to want revenge.

Oh Yes - this is a really good read. Such a plot that keeps you guessing throughout; very cleverly written.

It is two weeks before divorcee Amy and boyfriend Matt are due to be married. Amy's daughter Jess is at Falmouth University; Amy is a trained herbalist and her large house, garden and workshop on the outskirts of Brighton enable her to organically grow all the ingredients she needs to supply remedies to customers.
On a delivery-run in Brighton one morning Amy is accosted by an old women in the street - she has a warning for her - "He's not who you think he is" - "you're in danger". Passing this off as madness Amy returns home to a phone call from Matt that he'll be late due to taking an American client out to dinner. Only - he doesn't return home. Confiding in her closest friend Cath, Amy reports Matt as missing and WPC Page starts the investigation.

Another report of a missing person is called-in and WPC Page together with DI Lacey lead the investigation, because the description of the second missing person is the same as that of Matt - reported by Fiona, a successful Brighton solicitor. It seems Matt may have been living a double life.

Amy discovers from their wedding planner, Lara, that Matt had insured against the wedding cancellation - which she is in the process of having to do. What other lies has he told her?

Amy begins to discover a lot of inconsistencies and learns a lot from daughter Jess about their relationships.

Circumstantial evidence is building - who's lying? what's happened to Matt? Jess is determined to help her mother and embarks on an electronic trawl of information on Matt.

Meanwhile - the reader is treated to intermittent narrative from the events of 1996, which gradually gives another story which bleeds through into present day; until you start to see the connections, though not the truth, until the final pages - brilliant.

I really felt for Amy - placed in a seemingly impossible situation where all odds are stacked against her.
There are lies, deceptions and red-herrings galore. An expose of coercive control and domestic abuse alongside murderous intent, jealousy and revenge.

Excellent reading.

This is a stunning book. A heart-stopping, thrilling psychological drama. I read it hungrily in one day. In my mind I am casting the roles for what will surely be a suspense filled TV film. I am already advising friends to pre-order what will surely be a five star highly commended novel.
It has everything needed for an unputdownable story. Sympathetic characters who you will tremble for as the story takes insidious turns and dives. I became breathless at times as the story moved into 'I can't believe this is happening' mode.

An enjoyable read that really involved you in the story. Many characters came under suspicion as the plot thickened. I found the ending very satisfying.

I knew I would enjoy this book, as I loved the cover and the strap lines so it immediately jumped to the top of my TBR pile and thankfully I wasn’t disappointed. This is a really enjoyable and fast paced read, it is really cleverly written and keeps you interested right to the end.

Amy is due to get married in two weeks time but suddenly her fiancé Matt disappears and she is forced to call the wedding off.

Not far away another woman called Fiona reports her boyfriend as missing, he was going to leave his fiancé for her. The man who has gone missing meets the same description as Matt.

Amy doesn’t want to believe that Matt has been living a second life but as the police investigation moves forward Amy is forced to face the truth.

What can I say except...wow. A fresh, different take on the domestic thriller! Amy, a quiet herbalist, is devastated when her fiance disappears only weeks before the wedding. She is further devastated when she finds out through the police that her near-husband was living a second life behind her back. And the other woman is a successful, attractive lawyer. Did either woman have something to do with their lover's disappearance? Do they know each other? Did they know of each other? If they did...for how long?

This book was a steady, enthralling read for me. There are two layers to the story, both tragic and horrifying in their own right. I truly didn't guess at the final twists until when they happened, and I was so sure that someone was involved that wasn't! The ending was satisfying. Overall, my first 5/5 read in quite awhile.

This was a great read. Twisty and with great character development and a tense storyline. , I loved the healing herbal element to the story and jess’s Recognition of the gaslighting. There were enough red herrings to keep me guessing . A mist enjoyable read in the garden on a sunny lockdown afternoon

Matt hasn’t be truthful with his fiancée and his sudden disappearance is about to completely fracture Amy’s seemingly perfect world. The cracks were there lurking in the background and once they become truly visible to her, they will cascade into a tsunami of betrayal and misery. Is someone trying to frame Amy and what secret is she protecting? Is she guilty or innocent, the clues are stacking up and time is running out.

A twisted and entertaining mystery of deceit with a dash of dastardly revenge peppered throughout.

I wasn’t sure where the novel was going to take me at first and worried this was going to be a standard missing person story but I was pleased to see that it had some hidden depth with the psychological elements. This made the character of Amy much more interesting. The ending became predictable but not in a negative way. The startling cover perfectly matches the story and was what drew me to requesting a copy, I’m glad I did.

Wow what a book. I literally couldn’t put it down. I love the way the author has written in the first person of Amy, Jess and Fiona.

The relationship between Matt & Amy is unbelievable. I love how Jess is so feisty and isn’t going to sit back and let everything happen around her.

I suspected a couple of characters but it turned out I was wrong which is awesome because lately some books I’ve read have been too predictable but this book was never that. The outcome is just what I wanted.

I’d definitely recommend reading this.

Thank you so much to Avon Books UK and Netgalley for an advance copy of this book in return for my honest review.

I really enjoyed this book it's definitely in the 'do not want to put down or end' category.
Reading is my favourite hobby, but being in lockdown and someone who is having to sheild and has literally only been as far as our front doorstep since 21/03/2020 and it's now 26/05/2020,having a good book to read is even more of a joy than usual.
This book kept me engrossed and my thoughts on who may or may not be involved changed continually, which is always a good thing as it helps keep my brain ticking over!
I would not say it's an original concept for a book, but the way it plays out is different.
I especially enjoyed how herbalism was used,I found that interesting and educational, which is always a plus for me when reading a book.
The characters were believable and apart from one or two, obvious ones likeable.
I will definitely recommend the book to family and friends and read other books written by this particular author, who I would like to take the opportunity to thank for helping me to pass some 'lockdown' time.

I enjoyed this book, and thought it was a first class psychological thriller. It held my interest the whole way through, I read it in a couple of sittings, as it didn’t want to put it down. It’s the story of Amy, a herbalist, who is looking forward to her wedding in the next couple of weeks, when her husband to be disappears. The subsequent investigation into this disappearance uncovers that another woman, Fiona, has also reported him missing. The story has you on the edge of your seat, with lots of twists and turns. The little snippets in the book concerning Kimberley and Charlie take a while to fit into the story, but once they do, you end up hoping that the police will believe Amy over the other woman, Fiona. I was also surprised at the ending, as I had it in my mind who I thought was also deceiving Amy, but I was wrong!

I would certainly recommend this book.

A tense thriller with a quick pace and intriguing plot. It starts out as a missing person story that turns into a probable murder with a historical mystery lurking in the background. I thoroughly enjoyed this suspense novel. With fabulous characters and plenty of twists and turns, I didn't guess the ending - I actually thought it was another of the major players. Very well written with a pace that holds the readers attention.

What a story kept me on the edge of my seat all the way through, what you learn is you can’t trust anyone when you think you have a perfect life then it’s all pulled from under you, the thought of your husband going missing just before your wedding is tragic then to find out so many things you never knew about is a nightmare and nothing is as it seems really good read can’t wait to read more of this author and want to thank Netgalley and Avon Books the opportunity to read The Vow definitely recommend it.

Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy of The Vow.

What a quick and interesting book this was! I really enjoyed it, especially once I got to Part Two and couldn’t put it down. Amy is happily engaged to Matt, getting married in a few weeks when Matt suddenly disappears. Hoping for the best, Amy tries to believe that Matt will return however she eventually has to face the facts. Not only is he not returning, but he’s been deceiving her this whole time. Then you have Fiona, who is connected to both Matt and Amy but you aren’t sure how! What really happened to Matt? Is Amy really responsible or could it be Fiona? I have to admit I thought I knew what the plot twist was going to be and I was wrong! I was just waiting to find out that someone else in Amy’s life, completely unexpectedly, deceived her as well! While that may not have happened, I really didn’t anticipate the ending.

With Amy planning to marry Matt in just two weeks time, the last thing she needs is some woman ambushing her in the street and telling her everything isn't as it seems. When Matt goes missing that night, she reports it and then his OTHER WOMAN also reports it too, you know you are in for a tale with plenty of twists and turns.

The beginning of the novel was really fast paced and I really enjoyed it as we saw Amy begin to question everything. We find out that not everyone in Amy's life actually liked Matt and there's some flashbacks to a particular time and event that puzzles you as to where it fits in.

It does all eventually fit into place though although I found the story slightly stalled in the middle in pace, only picking up again towards the end. I was very happy to see that I had come to the right conclusion although I only got there a couple of pages before the reveal.

Just what happened to Matt? Did one of his women do something to him? You'll be kept on the edge of your seat.

As thrillers go, this is definitely up there as one of my favourites!.

Amy feels as though her life is pretty perfect, until one day her soon to be husband Matt gies missing.
Following his disappearance, Amy discovers things about Matt's past which unsettle her, and also has to deal with consequences of her own past too.

This book was just fabulous, well written with the perfect amount of suspense throughout!

Two weeks before her wedding Amy's life is blown apart when her fiance Matt disappears one night. Bit by bit she discovers her life is one big lie. Her daughter confesses to never having liked Matt and it turns out she is a good judge of character. Can Amy stop secrets from her past coming back to haunt her? Is Matt really who he says he is? Does Amy have any enemies? My favorite read of the year, couldn't put it down.

History spins a web into the present. A teenager dies after drinking a potion prepared by her sister and her friend. In the present Amy is due to be married to her fiance when he doesn't return home. She reports him missing to the police but a few days later another woman reports the same man as missing and claims he is her boyfriend. An enjoyable story with a twist in the tale.

This was a complex tale of misconceptions and misperception of love, of the subtlety and insidiousness of abuse and the endurance of a held grudge. It's well told and it really isn't clear for the vast majority of the novel who the 'good guy' is. Cleverly worked with original character profiles and intentions.

With a sense of unease from the very start of this book, even the reader feels tense as the story unfolds. After a while there aren't many characters who you don't start to mistrust as their own versions of the truth are revealed. Is anyone ever who or what they seem and is their a single vision of justice?

Debbie Howells is such a talented writer and The Vow is solid proof of this. I was memorised by this book and story line, I couldn't put it down, there was so much I needed to know everything, I needed to know how it ended but at the same time I never wanted it to end.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this book.
At first I wasn’t totally engaged with the book and didn’t follow why the flashbacks were important. The storyline soon became clear (Matt, the future husband) had disappeared and everything started unraveling.
I thought the book truly started about half way through and gripped me from this point. I didn’t see the twists coming but they were well placed.
I thought the book from the different perspectives was good and kept the story flowing.

The Vow
Debbie Howells

Everything was perfect. And then her fiance disappeared…
The wedding day never happened. But the funeral might.

Wow! What a good read this was. Really twisty and kept me hooked all the way through. Written really well. Liked the characters and the way the story was told through both women and the daughter. Definitely recommend, would like to read more from this author in the future.

If I had a penny for Everytime I eye rolled I would be RICH. Gosh I loved this book! I couldn't put it down and yes I hate Matt 😠 So this book is about Amy (we like her) whose fiance disappears a few days before their wedding on the same day some lady warned her about him (hooked yet!?). The storytelling, the characters and the plot made this book one of the most interesting reads I loved this book, it was written so we'll.

I really enjoyed this book. It had me intrigued all the way through and I was second guessing the ending and who was in the wrong from the start. I liked the way it went back to 1996 and you weren’t really sure who was telling this part of the story but you know it’s going to link with the main plot. Without giving anything away, it’s cleverly intertwined with the characters and their lives.
I’ll definitely be reading more from this author as it was a fantastic psychological thriller.

As soon as I started this book, I knew it was right up my street. I loved the herbal remedies and references to all the plants, as I myself am a big fan of natural medicines.

However, as the tale goes on, we learn about Matt and his controlling way, and dark secrets in the families. I think I would have been sceptical first off, I don’t know why women make excuses for men who lie and cheat. I’d have dumped him sooner rather than later! The story is told from different perspectives so you get a good idea what’s going on.

As the story opens up, you don’t know who is telling the truth, and the title of the book is clever, in that it’s not a wedding vow, but something made years ago between children.

Poor Amy is on a slippery slope and no-one really believes her, the other woman involved, Fiona is also hiding secrets, the question is, who do the police believe? Both maybe telling the truth or not, who knows?

Jess, Amy’s daughter is brilliant in it, and she actually finds out more than the police. I think they were quite lax in their investigative skills, as they had more resources to hand, but still didn’t find the truth. In fact they came across as a bit dim!!!

Well having said that, as a reader of a lot of crime, I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this, it was certainly different.

My thanks to the author, the publishers and Netgalley for the ARC.

Excellent. The story gripped me immediately with both its pace and all through the intrigue and always new questions popping into my head.
Great portrayal of the different characters. My suspicions were aroused to one or another character only to be transferred to another throughout the book.
All the way I thought there was something odd about Matthew and clearly he was setting up Amy but I did not realise at any time the huge twist towards the end and.
Definitely a book I would recommend.

This book was my introduction to this author, and what a way to be introduced. I really loved the premise of the story, and overall the story was executed well. There are a lot of characters in this story and on occasion I would have to stop and take a moment to remember who they were and how they fitted in. I personally feel that things could have progressed a little faster, but appreciated the backstory we got.

The story has plenty of twists and turns, some you may see, others you ma not. I spent most of the book with suspects in my mind - right up until the end when all is revealed, and I was wrong.

Definitely an interesting book, and I would certainly read more from this author.

Full of mystery and suspense, this book kept me hooked right from the start and to be honest, I was disappointed when I finished the book, as I wanted to keep on reading it! If you're looking for a new psychological thriller to read, then this is your next book.

This is one of those books that I almost gave up on - although I am glad I didn’t. The second half of the book was definitely a lot better than the first. I also didn’t really feel like I got to know any of the characters the way I normally do with books and that meant I felt indifferent towards each of them.

Amy is a herbalist and lives with her fiancé Matt in the outskirts of Brighton. She has a daughter, Jess, who is at University in Falmouth and is happy. One day Amy gets a call from her fiancé to say he will be late home as he has to entertain a client. However, he later fails to return home and eventually Amy reports him missing to the police. Unbeknown to her, another woman has reported her partner missing and his description matches that of Matt. Told from the viewpoint of Amy, Fiona and Jess whilst peppered with someone’s memories of the Summer of 1996 - the story unfolds.

#Netgalley #thevow #debbiehowells #arc #booksofinstagram oh man. I'm torn on this review. When I saw the title. Because, hello, my name is Cori and I will judge a book by its cover 🙈 I went on thinking marriage vows. While that's how it seems to start off it takes a left turn to a man and a woman soon to be married. The man goes missing. Odd things happen. Maybe the fiance is crazy. Maybe she killed him 🤷‍♀️ I liked the curvy road journey we seemed to go on. It was more than just a story that didn't tie up neatly until the end. #bookworm #booksofinstagram #bookreader #readbooks #bookreview

Many thanks to Avon Books UK, Netgalley and Debbie Howells for the ARC of this book.

I was in two minds about this book.
Part one felt like it dragged on, I couldn't really connect with the main character and I felt a lot of the lines had been repeated a lot.
But part two blew it out of the water! I loved part two. The flashbacks throughout were well done, the plot twists were brilliant and the writing style was very descriptive.
Again I feel this is the kind of book you need to go into blind.
3.5 stars rounded up to 4 for that ending!

Wow! That is the only word to describe The Vow. From start to finish the book pulls you in and you cannot leave until you have reached the end. There is so much to keep you guessing, plenty of twists and turns to keep you from putting the book down. At the end of every chapter you just have to start the next one - make sure you set aside enough time to read this in one sitting. When secrets from the past begin to appear in your perfect life and things start to unravel, what do you do? How many coincidences are there really in life? Is the universe conspiring against you or is there a deeper, darker reason your world is falling apart? Read The Vow to find out the answers.

The Vow by Debbie Howells

Not all is what is seems. As preparations are underway for Amy and Matt's wedding a series of events leading up to the groom's disappearance leads to more questions than answers and makes you wonder if we really know the people we are closest with.

This book had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. Debbie Howells gets suspenseful thriller down to the very last detail. I highly recommend this page Turner!

4/5 Stars

An engaging thriller, believable characters that I could relate to but maybe one coincidence too many! I enjoyed the plot which had plenty of surprises.
Amy’s wedding is two weeks away when Matt her fiancé, inexplicably disappears. She is devastated but when she reports it to the police she discovers that another women has also reported someone missing, someone who said he was about to leave his fiancé. Two conflicting stories but who is telling the truth? As the investigation continues Amy finds herself under suspicion and events from the past are discovered that turn her whole life upside down.

I liked how the story was told not just from Amy's side but also the "other woman's" side (Fiona) and even Amy's daughter Jess. All three of them had so much to offer in terms of story line.

There were so many secrets in this book .
Thank you so much to NetGalley and the author for the ARC in exchange for my review.

This book was the first book I have read by this author. I truly loved this book and was engaged from the moment I started reading. My heart broke for Amy at first and then I started second guessing everything and questioning every character on what happened to Matt two weeks before their wedding. I enjoyed the flashbacks as well, at first I wasn’t sure of the connection but I enjoyed how it all fit together. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. Thank you Net galley and publisher for this opportunity to read this book.

This is my first Debbie Howells book and I loved it! The story kept me intrigued from the beginning.

My worst fear when I was getting married was my husband to be leaving me at the alter for another woman. So while Amy was not left at the alter per say, it was extremely close to her wedding day when her husband to be just disappeared.

I liked how the story was told not just from Amy's side but also the "other woman's" side (Fiona) and even Amy's daughter Jess. All three of them had so much to offer in terms of story line.
There were so many secrets in this book and it really hit home with the "Not everything is always as it seems" theme.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and the author for the ARC in exchange for my review.

I was initially interested in this book because I am a corona bride dealing with having to postpone my wedding, but I can't imagine what our main character endures when her fiancé goes missing two weeks before she is set to marry him. I have read several books about missing wives and husbands but this one still hooked me from the beginning and had me eager to get to the final end reveal. I liked reading from the different view points and I didn't know who to believe or trust, everyone seemed unreliable. I liked the storyline from the past and how it wound up connecting with the events of the main plot. The author's exploration of the symbolism and use of flowers and herbs which I was afraid would be boring was executed in a way that kept me intrigued. I enjoyed the twist at the end, and while I had an idea of who was responsible, I was still pleased with how everything wrapped up. I especially enjoyed how the title was meant to throw the reader off and not intended as one would think.

Wow, a compelling read. So many twists and turns it kept me guessing right up to the end. Just when she should have been getting prepared for her wedding, our main character has her whole life turned upside down. Who can she trust? Is she all she seemed?
Definitely recommended and sure to keep you wondering and page turning.

Amy and Matt are getting married. Two weeks before the wedding, Matt goes missing. The story is told from three perspectives: Amy, Jess, and Fiona. This book immediately drew me in, with Amy’s narratives about herbs and gardening. Although the basic storyline is familiar, the author spins it so well that it felt fresh. It is a slow burn of a story, as secrets and vows unravel. Recommended.

Amy receives a strange call from her Fiancé Matt two weeks before their wedding and after their vows have been written. Matt disappears and Amy finds out that another woman, Fiona, is also claiming to be with Matt and that he was going to leave Amy for her. This is news to Amy!
A well written thriller with added events along the way that keep you guessing until the end. Is Matt who he says he is or is there a secret waiting to come out?
Jess, Amy's daughter, is a very strong character and she helps to find the way to the truth at the end.
An enjoyable read and one I would definitely recommend.

Just two weeks before their wedding, Amy’s fiancé Matt disappears. This is the beginning of a nightmare where she tries to work out what has happened to him.

The story is told alternately by Amy, her daughter Jess, and by the other woman. The first half of the story moves at a rapid pace and had me gripped. As more is revealed of Matt’s character, it appears that their perfect relationship was not what it appeared to be.

The second half of the story, told more from the perspective of the other woman in the story, left me feeling somewhat perplexed. I kept alternating between which one of them I thought was guilty. The pace of the story slowed here and although still interesting, it wasn’t unputdownable as it had been at the beginning. The police involvement didn’t feel quite as realistic at it could have been as the WPC had too comfortable a relationship with Amy’s daughter to be entirely believable.

The ending took me by surprise. It was neatly packaged and explained the doubts I had been experiencing earlier. This is an enjoyable read with an unexpected ending.

I loved the premise of this novel: Amy's finance disappears one day after leaving for work. Distraught, she calls the police after a strange woman alerts her that she has no idea who he "really" is. Later another woman, Fiona reports her partner missing and surprisingly it's the same Matt who was engaged to Amy. Of course there are conflicting stories and we don't know whose version of events to believe. Many surprises and twists to secrets that are generations old and come to light as we see the history between Amy and Fiona. A very satisfying read!

This came as a pleasant surprise when I felt a bit stuck with reading. It started off very unimpressively but actually drew me in nonetheless and then it was just a race until finish! It’s not a literary masterpiece but I can see it as a perfect summer thriller. I enjoyed the fact the main character is a herbalist - that was quite refreshing, and I loved all the little details about gardens and the stories they tell. What started off as a bit of an average page-turner revealed some more layers to it, was entertaining and HELD MY ATTENTION for long enough (which is no small achievement atm).

A well executed psychological thriller with a racy plot and unexpected twists with a predictable conclusion. Couldn't put it down. The author has done a superb job of keeping a tight narrative with well drawn out characters. There are also a nice summary of the flowers and their meanings which was informative. Well done 👍

Amy, is the happy bride to be, but her life is turned upside down when her fiancé goes missing. Not long after another lady reports her boyfriend missing - with the same description. Could it be the same person missing and leading a double life. The police are involved and the lives of the two ladies are thrown into turmoil.
Told from the perspective of Amy, her daughter Jess and the other woman, Fiona.
Great pace story and keeps you turning the page.

A solid, suspenseful thriller about a man who disappears, and his fiancee finds out he's living a double life. From there, I can't say too much more because the twists just keep coming. Great premise, and the writing hooked me all the way through. I really liked the main character, Amy - while somewhat unreliable (as good thriller leads tend to be), she was the one I rooted for throughout. The story ties back to events in 1996 in Amy's childhood that may or may not be linked to her fiancee's disappearance.

The first half of this book was stellar. I couldn't put the book down and was racing towards the conclusion to find out who did it and why. About halfway through the twists started to get a little too unbelievable and too many for me (a problem plaguing many thrillers these days - writers know we are hungry for twists!). Also, some of the actions of the police officers were just a little bit too hard to believe. But the author did a nice job tying it all up at the end, so that ultimately the story made sense, the loose ends were tied up and the ending was very satisfying. I really loved all the clues and red herrings the author peppered throughout this book. Despite the questions I had occasionally with the plot, this book was fun to read from beginning to end, so I'm giving it 3.5 stars rounded up. Debbie Howells is great at characters and delivers the thrills so I'll look forward to reading the next one from her!

Which is well written and developed, I do highly recommend this book! I think it will definitely provide the much needed essentials a good thriller provides!

This is a very well-written story that pulls at the heart of every partner/wife/husband/lover that exists. The last thing you want to ever happen is for your loved one to disappear, but even worse is to have that and to find they have led a double life. Everything gets ripped from you at once, and that is exactly the story this tells…or does it. It has twists and turns, and really keeps you guessing. It is really enjoyable, and the characters and world have been created with great depth. It is definitely a great story that will have you wanting to read just one more page.

Happily in love and looking forward to her wedding, Amy is distraught when her fiance Matt doesn’t return home one night. As the police delve into Matt’s disappearance, another woman comes forward to report that her boyfriend is missing. Amy is about to discover that the man she loves isn’t the man she thought he was.

This is the first book I have read by this author and it is a fast paced domestic thriller with plenty of twists and turns which will keep you guessing until the end.

I really enjoyed reading this book. An intriguing story about Amy, a herbalist who has meet the love of her life in Matthew.

Two weeks before their wedding Matthew doesn't come home from a night out with an important work client. With growing concern Amy makes calls to try and locate him. His boss says that he didn't have a meeting with a client. Amy contacts the police and everything spirals out of control. Her past comes back to catch her and all is not what it seems.

I stayed up well into the night with this book. I'd definitely recommend you check it out. Thank you to #netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to review this book.

So many red herrings in this book! The story is good though a couple of the characters were somewhat annoying, so much so that at one point I thought I would just stop reading but then found myself desperate to know what would happen. I didn't guess the ending. I will definitely look out for more by Debbie Howells.

The story starts at a fast pace, with Amy being stopped by someone warning her that she is in danger. She is due to be married to her fiancé Matt, and when he fails to turn up following a business meeting she becomes anxious. There are two parts to the story, the second part is told from Fiona’s viewpoint, who has also reported her partner, who matches Matt’s description, as missing.
This compelling story draws you in from the first page. Becoming anxious, Amy phones friends and business colleagues, asking whether they know Matt’s whereabouts, eventually reporting him missing to the police. As the story unfolds, Amy discovers that he has been leading a double life, cancels the wedding and tries to carry on with her life.
The book is skilfully plotted by the author, you feel that you have guessed who is responsible for Matt’s disappearance, but constantly question your decision, changing your mind as the story unfolds. Characters are believable and you feel empathy with Amy and her daughter Jess. But as Fiona's version of events is told, who do you believe?
An extraordinary set of circumstances leading to a thrilling, gripping storyline, and an unexpected conclusion. This is a book which I couldn’t put down until the last page. Highly recommended.

Thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher, for allowing me to read a free copy of this book in exchange for my review. This story was interesting and engaging. It kept my interest from the first sentence. Poor Amy, a few weeks before her wedding her fiancée disappears. Now she has to let everybody know that the wedding is cancelled, not to mention her concerns for his safety. Is he alive? Has he lied to her? I can't imagine how this must feel. Thankfully she has a people around her for support and a career that she loves. I love gardening so I felt I had a few things in common with Amy's love for her garden. Great book!

Poor Amy, such a naive and trusting girl. She gives her heart to Matt, without any boundaries. It seems that her daughter Jess has more nous than her mother as she isnt happy with Matt at all, but she sees that her mother loves him.
When Matt disappears the story ramps up and soon it is obvious that he has been living two lives, one with Fiona. who is a very different type of woman. The plot has many turns and twist in it. I found it difficult to keep track of the different voices sometimes.
Altogether a dark and disturbing thriller, but weakened by the seemingly unhelpful police with whom i lost patience..
Thank you to NetGalley for a review copy, it was an intriguing story.

This book was decent. It held my attention and kept me wondering about the missing fiance, Matt....at least it did for about the first half. After a while I started to lose interest and stop caring about what happened to him....it was a book I put down and honestly forgot I was reading for a while. I would try this author again in the future

The Vow tells the story of Amy, whose fiance Matt disappears shortly before their wedding. When she reports him missing, she learns about Fiona who is also reporting Matt as her missing partner.

As soon as I read the blurb of this book I knew I would love it and boy, it didn't disappoint.

The story is told from the point of view of Amy and Fiona, who both claim to be Matt's partner as well as Jess, Amy's daughter. Who can you trust in The Vow? Certainly not Matt, that's for sure.

But Amy may or may not be completely innocent as she keeps her own secret from the past. Will Jess find out?

I really did feel for all the women involved, especially Amy's daughter Jess. In the end everything comes together and the ending is somewhat satisfying but I can't help feel like Jess is paying for Amy's mistakes.

What a rollers coaster this was, you won't regret this.

First off, thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC. I will say, I’ve never heard of this author before, but when I read the description of this book I was hooked. Who doesn’t like a good mystery? Amy and Matt, about to get married and suddenly Matt disappears, the life Amy had planned suddenly ripped apart. The story quickly unfolds, from fear and worry, to grief and pain. We learn about the past and how secrets play a huge role in the ending of this book. At first it moved a little slow, but it didn’t last for long as quickly it started to pick up and the lies started to unravel. The lengths people go to lie, to keep secrets and get revenge makes for a great mystery!

This was a riveting read, building and building with more and more secrets and lies. Told from the point of view of Amy, Fiona, and Amy’s daughter Jess, it’s hard to know who is lying.

As more information comes to light, we jump back to 1996 when the tragic death of teenager Kimberley, followed by the suicide of her boyfriend Charlie, is revealed. Are they connected and if so how?

The plot is very clever, though about two-thirds of the way through I guessed one particular connection, but I couldn’t be sure so it didn’t spoil it for me at all. My main gripe is with the police questioning. I thought they were very hard on Amy and some things I questioned as to whether they would really say or do that. Also I don’t believe in coincidences and surely they must have realised certain things were linked. It took Jess to discover a lot of information that the police failed to find. In this day and age it should have been easy or maybe they just just didn’t look hard enough.

The idea of having two female protagonists (three if you count Jess who really is the stand-out hero) made this different from other psychological thrillers I have read in recent years (and I have read a LOT). Certainly an exciting and entertaining novel.

Many thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

What happened to Matt? Who was the mysterious Matt? Two weeks before her wedding Amy’s fiancé goes missing but it is only then that Amy starts learning about the real Matt. A really exciting mystery read with twists and turns on every page.

I couldn't put this book down! It's so well written and so gripping! The twists and turns will keep your turning the pages. Fab read!

I enjoyed reading this book, it is well plotted, with strong characters, and an intriguing scenario for the reader to dive straight into.
Amy’s fiancé Matt has disappeared without trace, just two weeks before her longed- for romantic wedding day. But all is not as it seems, and Matt is not the man Amy thinks he is. The plot twists and turns until the reader does not trust anyone to be who they say they are - Amy’s friends, her therapist, her daughter, the police officers, and the elusive Fiona, who turns out to be Matt’s ‘other woman’ even before they are married.
The intertwining story, narrator unknown, dating back to 1996, is even more mysterious, and intriguing in how it will eventually relate to the present day and Amy’s life now.
The different POVs work very well, and give the reader a much fuller picture of Amy and her background.
A few red herrings along the way are enough to throw the reader off the scent - for a while. Clever plotting and an unexpected ending make for an excellent read, maintaining interest right to the end.
I would recommend this book, and will look for more of this author’s work.
My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my advance copy of this title.

This was so much more than just a missing person/partner book. This was everything I look for in a book. The cover is so catching. And the ending was INSANE. I didn’t see it coming, so many twists and turns. The surprises and secrets just kept coming out. Great work, I can’t wait to read more of your work.

I loved this! It grabbed my attention as soon as i started reading it and i was hooked until the end. So many secrets unfolding all the way through and when I thought I had it all worked out there was another twist. I'm not usually a fan of thrillers but this may well have changed my mind. I absolutely connected with Amy's story from the start and at one point almost shouted out "no, not Amy!" as it all turned horribly wrong for her. There were storylines from other characters in the book which added depth whereas in some stories it can just be annoying or confusing, however it really worked well here.

Thoroughly recommend this book, I've been raving about to to all my friends and family...unusual for me and I'll be sure to watch out for more from Debbie!

Amy reports her partner Matt missing, and she can’t understand why as they have the perfect relationship. They’re getting married in just a few weeks! But another woman also reports him missing... matching his description, she claims that Matt is her partner too, and she knows all about Amy. Where is Matt and what’s really going on?

I was so hooked by this book. I don’t know if it’s because I haven’t read a thriller for a while, but I absolutely loved it.

The characters in the book are introduced really clearly, so they each stick in your mind while you read. They all had a key part in his disappearance, or Amy’s discoveries. Her daughter Jess was a great character in particular (very smart and loveable).

Each revelation in the police case was revealed with great timing. I felt just as invested in the case as Amy was. There were so many twists along the way, only one of which I suspected! I was convinced I knew what the ending was going to be, but I was completely wrong🤦🏼‍♀️

Definitely recommend this book, I sped through it to get to the ending!

I had heard so many good things about this novel I was delighted to gain access to a copy via NetGalley. For me it lived up to the hype and was a real page turner until the final 10% of the book, in which the perpetrator turned out to be the most obvious person for the most obvious of reasons.

I’m just not sure why the author didn’t pick pretty much any of the other characters to be responsible. I’ve heard so many crime writers speaking about how they wrote one bad guy in the first draft, realised it was too obvious and switched. I have no idea why Howells did not do the same.

In terms of pace, I read up to the 90% mark in 2 evenings then took the rest of the time on the last 10. It was, if I’m honest, a bit of a let down.

That said, the book still warrants 4 stars, because it is so well written. The two main narrators, Amy and Jess, are fantastic creations - a mother and daughter whose love for each other is undoubted. Fiona Rose, the other narrator, is a character I loved to hate, and the others were really believable, especially DC Page (as she must be - surely no-one is a WPC any more? Wikipedia says it was used until 1999 though is still used “by individuals” - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women_in_law_enforcement_in_the_United_Kingdom ).

I absolutely *loved* the herbalism references throughout, and the link between the house’s current and previous owner, through their knowledge of plants is just brilliant. I also appreciated the portrayal of a woman who has been so badly gaslit that she is delusional. Really, really great writing.

All in all, I would recommend The Vow to friends, and hope that, like me, they dismiss their early “It must be X” thought as too obvious, so they can keep enjoying the novel - as I did till it did, indeed, turn out to be X. I guess in crime novels as in poetry the writer does sometimes go for “first thought, best thought” after all.

Everything was perfect... and then her fiancé disappeared...

I read The Vow in one sitting, a testament to the fact it gripped me from the start and pulled me right in.

The tale of a seemingly perfect relationship between Amy and Matt, until he mysteriously disappears 2 weeks before their wedding. A few days later, another woman comes forward with information that shatters everything Amy thought she knew.

Told from the POV of Amy, Fiona (the other woman), and Jess, Amy’s plucky teenage daughter - as well as an unnamed narrator reflecting on past events - the story slowly reveals the cracks in Matt and Amy’s relationship, making her begin to question everything she thought she knew about him.

As details of the present and the past begin to overlap, there were a few moments where I felt that perhaps the coincidence was too great, but this resolved in the end so is well worth persevering. As a ‘witchy’ type myself I was also fascinated with Amy’s sideline in herbalism and alchemy and would have loved to have seen some more of that.

This novel is not without its faults, some parts seeming to be a bit too much of a stretch, but overall it is a very enjoyable read.

Thank you Netgalley and Avon Books for the ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

I quite liked this book. Certainly I wanted to keep reading it. It was a book that was easy to pick up and put down And in the main I liked the characters

I thought the book was a little predictable but only right at the very end and it didn’t detract from the story. Actually I thought right up to the end that Kath had something to do with it or maybe Rik!

Overall an enjoyable read

Amy and Matt are due to get married in 2 weeks. After a night out with a client, he doesn't come home. Amy reports him missing but soon finds herself under arrest for his murder.
Fiona, a lawyer, has also reported her boyfriend, Matt, missing.
These 2 apparent strangers soon both find themselves not only as suspects but finding deep secrets from their past revealed.
An absolutely brilliant book, a bit slow to start, but soon picking up pace. Full of twists and turns with an ending I didn't guess.
Highly recommend.

A good solid domestic thriller once again demonstrating how hopeless I am at guessing whodunnit. I do believe that this book is written to make sure you suspect most incidental characters and follows this through right until the end.

Amy is getting excited for her wedding to Matt, which is due to take place in 2 weeks time. One night he doesn't come home though after an evening entertaining a client and very quickly the story escalates. At the beginning, we are led to believe that Matt and Amy's relationship is idyllic but this becomes obviously not the case.

There were some moments of slight irritation as with a lot of these types of novels - WOuldn't the Police suspect more sinister goings on than the neighbours chimney suddenly being blocked? Wouldn't Amy be a little more irritated than she was at finding the address didn't exist. Not displaying any spoilers here but just pondering.

I liked the daughter though - I liked her suspicious nature and that she was feisty and wouldn't let anything drop without being unnatural.

An engaging book from the start and it continues in that vein Written from the points of view of three main characters it starts with a few strange things happening to Amy and then her fiancé fails to come home. Everything then starts to go downhill for her. Secrets and the truth are gradually uncovered, keeping the reader turning the pages until the eventual conclusion.
I found the flashbacks distracting initially but as the book progressed the relevance became clear.

I really enjoyed this book. Amy is looking forward to her wedding to Matt in 2 weeks time. But then he goes missing. Amy is beside herself with worry. Then the police tell her that a woman called Fiona has reported her partner missing, and that he too is Matt, who was apparently about to call off the wedding and move in with her. The story is told from 3 perspectives: Amy, her student daughter and Fiona. It soon becomes apparent that Amy and Fiona knew each other years ago, but does Matt know that? This is a good story which will keep you on the edge of your seat until the end. Thanks to NetGalley for a preview copy.

Amy is getting married to Matt and all the wedding plans seem to be going well until Matt disappears and a whole heap of trouble lands at Amy’s door along with a bunch of flowers in a container of blood. Human blood.
Hooked you will be. So here we are a couple of weeks before Amy is going to walk up that aisle and if she could have wrote a list of things that would occur next following Matt vanishing into thin air - the list would have seemed unbelievable. Cough cough.
Well the book starts with a bang and draws you in and your racing through it and then.. cough cough it does go all a little unbelievable.
So where was I ah yes.. about halfway through the book I am thinking about this rat the Matt, the groom to be and actually hoping he is dead. We don’t know that at this point and I’m shouting at the book “how could you not see what a rat he is Amy?”
And we are suddenly taken back to her teenage years and a whole heap of secrets, lies, death and nastiness are discovered.
We are then also introduced to another major character Fiona and we learn that she is also seeing the rat aka Matt. Having an affair even though he is about to get married.
So now my eyes are rolling and more talking to myself occurs... and the story just goes all a little too weird and a tad unbelievable for me.
Anyway in steps Jess, Amy’s daughter and I suddenly feel like I am watching an episode of Colombo and thinking Jess just needs a raincoat.
Thank heavens for Jess is all I can say.. Detective inspector whatever your name is must be glad she’s involved too.
Cough cough again.
OK so I can’t give anymore away.
I loved most of the plot, it had me up to half way through the book, some of the characters were strong and it is a twisty tale that had some great writing but for me it unraveled and I wasn’t really invested in the end.
I will definitely pick Debbie Howells again.

What an excellent book! Written mainly from the point of view of 3 people. The plot twists & turns so that your sympathy moves from 1 person to the next. I couldn’t put it down & highly recommended it.

Many Thanks to the author and Netgalley for allowing me to read this book before being published in exchange for an honest review.

Amy is a single mother who is going to get married for a second time to Matt. But Matt dissapears so she has to call off her wedding. And then another woman reports another man missing, but he really is also Matt.

This is a psychological thriller that had me thinking all the way while Amy talks to her daughter and long term friends and realise that in between her and Matt there wasn´t only a love story.

There were moments with him, where her life wasn´t what she expected with him but she couldn´t or didn´t want to see it.

The book had me thinking all the way through and it kept me guessing until the end. There is also a second story and then at the end, all of it makes sense.

Full of twist and turns where you could think of almost every character as a suspect.

I really enjoy this novel and I will be looking for some more books by Debbie Howells.

I started to read the book and from the very beginning it took hold. If I could of kept reading I would of. Wow what a page turner. Can't wait to read more books.

If you wish to know what this novel is about, this can be explained from the fly cover and I rate it 4 stars, as it twists and turns all the way to the ending, which did surprise me.
I was intrigued from page 1 and continued to the end. Parts of the book containing police interviews at police station were repetitive and I found them boring, but did not stop my interest to complete the book. For some readers who enjoy this form of writing, it will suit as it is dark, absorbing and twisty. The main characters Amy, Fiona and Jess, I thought were strong characters.
The storyline is interesting. Could this happen in REAL LIFE? I think it could!

The book is all about revenge, love, long past secrets, jealously and trust.

I THANK NETGALLEY FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO READ AN ADVANCED COPY OF THIS BOOK

The Vow by Debbie Howells

Amy is due to get married in 2 weeks time, until her husband to be mysteriously disappears after saying he is working late. After reporting Matt missing, Amy is told that another woman has also reported Matt missing, claiming he is her boyfriend.

Amy & Fiona are soon questioned by the police and Amy is suspected of murdering Matt, despite no body being found. Did Amy murder her controlling & manipulative husband to be or is she being set up? Her daughter Jess doesn’t believe Amy could ever be capable of murder and begins her own investigation into Matts background.

It soon becomes clear that Amy & Fiona we’re friends in their younger days and a murder resulted in them going their seperate ways.

2 murder investigations, a missing husband & boyfriend and past secrets never to be told, will the truth be uncovered?

I really enjoyed the Vow, I loved the mystery surrounding Matt’s disappearance and it left you guessing many different theories throughout. The theme of ‘gaslighting’ is a main one throughout this book and I think it’s a really important subject covered, most of the time people don’t realise they are in a manipulative & controlling relationship, and it’s clear throughout this book that Amy wanted to do everything to please Matt, even going as far as breaking her Vegetarian diet to keep him happy.

Towards the end of the book I did guess Matts past and how he linked to both Amy & Fiona in their younger lives, however this didn’t take away the suspense and excitement as there was still more clues to be uncovered.

Overall a brilliant read!

Thanks to Netgalley & Avon books for letting me read this book in return for an honest review!

Wow a story of love, lies and secrets.
Amy and Matt are weeks away from their wedding when Matt disappears. After reporting him as a missing person to the police, Amy begins to slowly find out things that Matt has kept hidden from her, namely another woman he was leaving her for. As the police investigation turns into a murder investigation, past secrets are unearthed that cause a ripple effect in the lives of those involved in the case. After all, people can change their names, but their past will always be there along with the secrets and lies that were kept hidden. This book is a great suspense novel filled with many twists and turns and an ending that the reader will never see coming. Highly recommend for all suspense and mystery lovers.

The plotline was brilliant! Lots of unforeseen connections, leading to various twists and turns. I couldn't put it down, I was desperately guessing what would happen, all to no avail. A definite creepy undertone made this a deliciously dark read. The setting was well described but not overdone.
The characters and their connections were well thought out and added a whole dimension to the plot.
I loved this book and I would definitely read it again

I really enjoyed this book. It makes you think “do you really know anybody” you trust your partner completely- or do you? I have seen a lot of books with a similar story line but this is a cut above. I don’t want to rewrite what is in the book description but do want to say READ IT.

Amy is getting married to Matt but he disappears a couple of weeks before the wedding. Quickly it turns out things weren't as they seemed, he appeared to be gaslighting Amy and he was having an affair with Fiona.

I enjoyed the style of the writing with Amy, Fiona, Jess (Amy's daughter) all taking a turn in narrating and with some flashbacks to childhood by an unknown narrator.

However I did have some issues with the book. I felt there was sympathy missing for Matt from the police etc, and he was discussed as a complete psychopath when, although his actions were definitely unjustifiable, he had had his life ruined as an impressionable child by Amy and Fiona. The statement from WPC Page that he hadn't expected them to find the notebook that exonerated Amy when it had been hidden in the same flower bed as the blood stained clothing he'd planted was ridiculous. And I also wasn't convinced that the notebook containing two recipes written by the grandmother was really enough to secure a conviction for Fiona.

The "big reveal" I had guessed a long time prior to that but it was still an interesting story and I didn't struggle to read it.

There are numerous typos etc that I noticed but I assume they'll be cleaned up for the publication date.

All in all, I would recommend it as I did enjoy the tale and it's easy enough to ignore the issues I had with it if you're happy to go along with it.

An interesting read with unexpected twists and turns. Easy to read and very enjoyable. The plot was believable and so were the characters.

The Vow written by Debbie Howells, is an engaging read. Amy is walking down a road when a stranger approaches her and warns her that her life is in danger. That night her fiancee Matt also fails to turns up at their house. With days passing on without Matt reappearing, the wedding is cancelled. In the very next turn of events, Amy is arrested when another woman reports Matt's missing.

Amy's daughter who has been suspicious of Matt begins to dig deeper in his past and make discoveries about her mother's past. Layers of truth begin to emerge as the book moves forward. The story is intriguing and the writing is fluid. A very imaginative story indeed.

A truly gripping work of fiction. Amy is about to marry her fiance Matt who disappears, Jess is Amy's daughter who dislikes Matt from observing him go from a perfect partner to a contolling bully. Then there is FIona, Matt's lover. The book is cleverly written from the points of view of the three women. Amy was two weeks away from marrying Matt when he vanishes without a trace. Fiona believing that Matt was leaving Amy to live with her belives Amy had something to do with his disappearance. As Matt's double life unravels and the past emerges the book draws you into a 'who is telling the truth' scenario.
This is a brilliant read, full of love, betrayal, loyalty and deceit. Be warned that once you open the book you will not be able to put it down. Highly recommended.

We meet Amy and Matt, they are a few weeks away from getting married when Matt disappears.

Amy is frantic and reports the disappearance to the police. Supported by her friend Cath and her daughter Jess she struggles through the loss of her partner. Mysterious things happen to Amy during this time and each time she is questioned by the Police we get an insight in the the relationship Matt and Amy had.

The police officer supporting Amy tells her that Matt was seeing somebody else at the time of his disappearance. The pieces of the puzzle drops into place.

Throughout the book we have snippets of another story and as the two move together more is revealed.

Enjoyable read, would recommend, thank you to Netgalley the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks for an ARC. I was hooked on the book from the start. Amy is wrapped up with her forthcoming nuptials but one night having been stopped by a stranger who advised that she was in danger, Matt her fiancée disappears. As the plot thickens so does Matt’s betrayal along with the cancelled wedding. The book has many twists and turns some I could not guess. Will be watching for this author’s next book.

A story about a double life, missing people and just so much more!

I am giving this book 3.5 Stars

The Vow is a must read thriller! I could not put this book down. I was hooked from the first page. There is so much suspense throughout the book. There wasn't anything I didn't like about this book.

Amy's fiance Matt is missing two weeks before their wedding. After reporting him missing, she finds out he has a mistress, Fiona, who also reported him missing. Both women have secrets they aren't telling the cops but what actually happened to Matt?

I recommend The Vow to all thriller fans. I don't think you will be disappointed. I am looking forward to reading more books by Debbie Howells. I also enjoyed that my favorite character's name was Jess.

Thank you NetGalley and Avon Books UK for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Loved this!! When Jess’s fiancée Matt disappears shortly before their wedding, we start to see the unraveling of their relationship! Told over various points of view - it really had all the bits I love about a thriller! Abuse, murder, gaslighting, stalking, a few twists thrown in for good measure and I was hooked!
There are so many amazing books of this genre around but this really did raise the bar! If I had to find a negative it would be that I finished it as I am left with a sad, empty feeling! Brilliant and I will most certainly recommend!

The Vow

This was an interesting thriller with lots of twists and turns.

The first half of the book is taut and fast paced but this does lose steam in the second half of the book....which was a shame but not a major problem.

I think some harsh editing would have helped...several characters either needed to be removed completely or enhanced as they seemed to be unnecessary padding (Zoe, Lara and Cath being the most notable) and the big twist was one I guessed as soon as Kimberley and Charlie's story was revealed.

I loved the herbal/alchemy side of the story and would have liked to have seen more of that. I think a Waitress type of intro to each chapter would have worked very well here...where they do different pies at the beginning of each section....would have loved a different remedy/potion/cure at the beginning of each chapter that gave us some info or hints of what we were about to read....I think this was a missed opportunity and something I would have enjoyed.

This comment is a personal thing and definitely not a criticism but I also would have preferred some more consistency with minor characters. There was certain characters who I think if we knew we could have trusted them more then this would have guided the story better.
With both Amy and Fiona being unreliable narrators...side characters needed to be obviously reliable or unreliable to guide the story more and they were a little too grey for my liking...but I think that's just me!

Amy was a very interesting unreliable narrator and I thought her unravelling was very well done. It definitely felt like a journey we went on with Amy and that's definitely a credit to the authors understanding of the harsh realities and abuse shown throughout this book. Such issues are dealt with emphatically and very carefully and I was very impressed. This should definitely be applauded and gave an intense realism to the characters emotions which was great.

It is only a good thing that I literally could not put this book down and read it in a single sitting so my lasting impression was fun, interesting and that this was most definitely an addictive read!

Will definitely be reading more from this author and was very impressed and very much enjoyed the story overall.

Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Could not put this book down, it really hooked me in. I really enjoyed the switching of characters and trying to figure out who the "other woman" was. In fact, I became a detective, trying to deduce and investigate the ‘case’. I loved the style of writing. Would definitely recommend this book.

Amy and Matt have spent months planning their wedding and writing their own special wedding vows, but just 2 weeks before the big day Matt disappears!
Frantic with worry Amy reports Matt's disappearance to the police, but within hours the police receive a missing persons report with a matching description from a female called Fiona. Could it be the same person? Has Matt been leading a double life?
The suspense starts from the off! The narrative switches between Amy and Fiona with interspersed chapters from an unknown dating back to 1996. The chapters are short, and the story rolls along at a steady pace.
I really enjoyed the many twists in this story, I thought I was on the right track, then I didn't, then I did.
A really well thought out plot, and a thoroughly enjoyable read.
Thank you to Netgalley, Avon books, and Debbie Howells for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. I will definitely be on the look out for future books by this author.

What a page turner this proved to be! An eclectic ensemble of characters who created a thought provoking pschological suspense until the climax. I did feel the ending was somewhat rushed, but there were plenty of red herrings thrown into the mix along the way, to the conclusion. I wasn't surprised by some of the reveals, but changed my mind a few times regarding the guilty party. Overall, I would recommend this novel and thank both Netgalley and Avon Books UK for this early reader's copy.

After a slow start I was debating on putting this down until a later date but I continued and I'm so pleased I did as once the story picked up I was hooked. The main character is unlikeable but there are other likeable characters in the story. I had lots of different theories as to who did it and didn't see the ending so for that I give it 4 stars. Thanks to netgalley for the advanced copy.

When Amy's fiancé Matt disappears two weeks before their wedding, she knows something is wrong. After reporting him missing, a couple of days later the police tell Amy that another woman also reported Matt missing - apparently he'd been leading a double life and was planning on leaving her. As details about Amy and Matt's relationship are revealed, and his many lies come to light, Amy begins questioning her own sanity and her past begins to haunt her.

This was a slow paced suspense novel that definitely did a really good job at building up the story, and keeping me clued into what was going to happen next and as always, I was suspecting everyone at one stage or another. There was a good bit of foreshadowing at the start of this novel which I don't always like but I didn't mind it too much in this case.

Debbie Howells is really good at building up a sense of place in her novels and in this case, it was definitely Amy's house and her garden where she grew her flowers and herbs for her job as a herbologist. I felt like I had a really good picture of the amazing garden full of kinds of flowers and it was a beautiful setting - even if the storyline was turning dark.

There wasn't any big shock moments for me in this book to be honest. The closest was possibly the bouquet of flowers with the bag of blood, which was just a really nice touch and just the horror of imagining receiving something like that, gah!

I think the explanation and look into emotionally manipulative, controlling relationships was important in this book, and the particular emphasis on gaslighting and the examples given by Amy's daughter Jess. It's something that I think could help readers recognise it in their own lives if they have experienced it.

Fiona's storyline for me felt a little bit disappointing in the end - I don't think her character was very drawn out and she felt very one-dimensional. I would have liked to have seen a bit more about what happened to her in the end, but it felt like the story just hit a dead end.

There was also some times in the police investigation I felt the line of questioning seemed really strange and speculative, and not particularly realistic. Like the police knowing the symbolism of the flowers in the garden and thinking they meant something - when the woman's job was to grow flowers and herbs.

Overall, I enjoyed this. Not as creepy as The Death of Her but still quite good.

Amazing!!

The whole story was so clever and throughout I felt anxious and hooked! I loved how it all weaved together bit by bit!

The characters we’re very likeable and I liked how throughout there’d be subtle doubts, where you’d question if the main character.

I’m so thankful to have read this book! Thank you NetGalley and Avon books! I will definitely be recommending :)

From page one I was gripped! It’s a long time since I’ve read a book that keeps you guessing at what’s coming next who is in the frame and why? Loved how the back stories from the characters evolved through the book. Will definitely suggest as light reading to my psychology students as a break from text books! Explores some good themes here and how it’s easy to become entrapped in Toxic relationships, well done!

Amy, a herbalist, and Matt, have been together for couple of years and they will be marrying in a fortnight. But, in the meantime, Matt disappears. Will the wedding ever happen?

The first half of the book moves with a really slow pace, but it all changes in the second half of the book. Howels presents Matt as disappeared. Amy is beside herself.
Then, another woman comes on the scene, whom Matt has been having an affair with, in the meantime, and was 'planning' to leave Amy for.

Lots of unsolved mysteries, some of them as old as 23 years. Revenge at the heart of all.
Heart-thumping, gripping thriller, I had to read it in one breath.

Thanks @Netgalley and @avon_books for letting me read this novel. Well worth my time!

An exciting page turner of a book. A physiological thriller with lots of twists and turns. Old friends, now enemies brought together by someone from their past who they didn’t realise was even in the past! I couldn’t wait to get to the end to see what was real and what wasn’t. Great read.

Strap yourself in, the plot of this book is like triple concentrate! Probably should have used a car pun there, instead. *ahem* The plot of this book is a hundred miles an hour! It covers 3 generations of family, murders, suicides, affairs, mysterious disappearances, a bit of witchcraft… There’s intertwining plots, double lives and even name changes, and you’d think that would make it difficult to follow, but it really didn’t! It was addictive! I stayed up until 2am dying to know what would happen next.

Amy is engaged to a charming, if not slightly controlling, handsome man named Matt. But when they’re just two weeks from their wedding day, Matt mysteriously disappears and doesn’t return home from work. When Amy reports him missing to the police the next day, she discovers another woman, claiming to be his girlfriend, has already done the same.

It really is an enjoyable rollercoaster of a book. It has some unexpected elements that I really enjoyed learning about too, such as the power of certain herbs and the meaning behind different flowers.

But, if I’m being picky (which is my prerogative, of course), the plot was so busy that it often felt rushed in places, in a very noticeable way. A good example is when Amy goes to bed the first night Matt is missing and it’s suddenly like “Waking up the next morning…”, I felt like it would have been much more believable to describe how awful going to bed alone was, and how she was too sick with worry to get any sleep. I’d be roaming the woods with a torch!

I also struggled to find a favourite quote, because the plot was so punchy that I feel it lacked descriptive depth (sorry!). Still, here is one I notably highlighted:

‘You can’t take love. Like the soft summer breeze, it has to be given.”

The Vow is out on October 15th, and it will definitely take over your day!

Amy is getting married to Matt in 2 weeks, everything is perfect in their relationship and they’ve already written their vows
But when Matt disappears and the police start to investigate it’s revealed that their perfect relationship wasn’t so perfect after all and Matt has been leading a double life

But what if the other woman ( Fiona) is the one from her teenage days that she doesn’t ever want to meet ?

What I love the most about this book are plot twists that were so captivating and Wow such a beautiful cover

The story is told from different perspectives which allows you to know the inside of every characters mind , ofcourse my favorite being Jess (Amy’s daughter ) a very strong willed lady who did everything to save her mom.

I give this book a 4🌟🌟🌟🌟 Star , taking 1🌟 away from it because I feel like the story was cut short and ended early .. I wanted to see Amy , Fiona and Matt confronting each other at least once to settle their affairs

It’s a story about love, jealousy, loss and revenge caring a big topic and it shows how a little thing like jealousy can affect and ruin more than one life forever

Thank you NetGalley and Avon books for sending me the Arc and allow me to give my honest review

Debbie Howells has produced another psychological thriller that delivers.
The surprise element is good as are the twists and turns of the story.
The two unreliable narrators add doubt to the reader's reasoning and make the plot more unpredictable.
The Vow as a title is a misleading but good title as it can be taken a variety of ways.
Interesting the novel starts as one plot and unravels as another.
Clever writing, well portrayed characters makes this latest offering from the author a sure fire winner.

However in between the light hearted Books ,the Travel escapes it's also good to be challenge by mystery & complex characters which The Vow most indubitably is.I was also greatly intrigued by the herbalistic & Plant side to the twisting plot & sub plots. The Vow is a weaving meandering story, not a “grab you by the throat” thriller, but a slow burner. Desperately sad at times - and with frustrating characters at times too - but over all a decent read. 3.5 stars.

I thoroughly enjoyed this one. It kept me gripped until the very end. Incredibly suspenseful and fast paced. Would highly recommend if you love a psychological thriller with plenty of twists and turns along the way.

There is also a double meaning in the title of the book (I won't give anything away!) which is very clever.

I received an Arc from @harpercollinsUK of the Vow. I wasn't sure what to expect as I am normally very rigid with my authors, I normally struggle to read new authors. Very glad I moved on from this. The book is very well written, telling a story from 4 people's perspectives. Great story with believable characters. The author was not scared to look at and address emotional and physical abuse within a marriage. Very believable storyline. Great pace and conclusion. I do not add spoilers so do not include any details of the book in my reviews. Definetly will recommend and read Debbie's next book.

This is a really good thriller. There are plenty of twists and shocks and red herrings and great characters. I was riveted from the start.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.

Although we start off in the romantic genre, this book very quickly moves to psychological thriller with some nice twists and turns of the plot along the way. Just when you think you've guessed who the villain of the piece is and you've got it all worked out, it isn't quite as obvious as it appears and there are more victims than you think. I would have liked Amy to have been a little stronger and less accepting of blame and punishment but perhaps the writer intended to emphasise the wider impact of gaslighting which is becoming more exposed - the apparent perfect relationship can hide many secrets. I'd definitely read more by this writer.

Woah! This book was outstanding. I was hooked from the first page. Thanks @netgalley and @avon_books for an advanced copy.

I’ve finished watching Lucifer lately and was rooting for some good modern criminal fiction and I came across the synopsis of The Vow. I couldn’t sleep properly until I finished the book.

Synopsis:
Everything was perfect. And then her fiance disappeared…
‘Dazzling’ DAILY MAIL
‘A terrific new talent’ PETER JAMES
The wedding day never happened. But the funeral might.

Things I absolutely loved about this book:
1. Amy is totally unreliable , her thoughts will drive you crazy
2. Fiona’s simple one dimensional role.
3. The first half of the book is breathtaking, the storyline keeps getting better.
Now the things which made me a bit disappointed:
1. Some plot twists happened during the police investigation which sounded a bit unrealistic.
2. Fiona’s storyline at the end wasn’t up to the mark.
Apart from that this book is a good one. It comes out this October. So hurry up and add this to your fall tbr list.

The books keeps you guessing till the end! Lots of twists and turns and red herrings, keeping you turning the pages to find out what was going on.
With 2 weeks to go until her wedding, Amy’s fiancé goes missing. But why? And how are things connected? And what secrets is she keeping? Kept me mystified till close to the end.
Really well written and suspenseful.

Amy Reid, an herbalist -also considered an alchemist- is due to marry the love of her life in barely a fortnight. They spent day and night preparing their wedding, writing their vows and thinking of their future together. Suddenly, Matthew -her fiancée- disappears leaving no trace behind and unleashes a series of events that will send Amy spiralling down her past. With Matt presumably dead, she is adamant that someone is framing her into a heinous crime.

Though written in a first-person narrator -with brief fragments as a kind of diary-, Mrs. Howells beautifully led us through a thrilling story. By the beginning of itself, you can sense the tension building up and every character becomes a suspect. It is not until almost the end of it, you can recognise who is behind everything that has been happening.

I liked the way Debbie intertwined her knowledge about plants with the story of Amy, it was really good to know that some flowers and herbs have a meaning behind. The way the tension built up almost immediately was another thing that made me not want to put it down, you could’ve nearly sense everything the main character felt.

It was for sure a terrific reading, I can’t stop thinking about how everything unravelled at last. It is, without doubt, one of the most thrilling books of this year so far.

I thank Debbie Howells, Avon Books UK and NetGalley for this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

A fantastic page turner. Amy is blissfully engaged to Matt. They are supposed to be getting married in two weeks when he disappears. As the mystery unravels we find out that Amy's life wasn't as good as she would have us, the readers, believe. Matt is controlling and abusive. When all this comes to light Amy is framed for his murder. Fiona, a childhood friend, is also implicated. Lots of twists and turns make you want to just sit and read this book.

Everything was perfect. And then her fiance disappeared…

This is a book about secrets, we all have them but some secrets should stay hidden. Amy plans to marry the man of her dreams Matt but is Matt all he appears to be. When he disappears another women claims he was supposed to be leaving Amy and moving in with her.

As the police delve into the past secrets and lies surface. This is a well written pacy book that kept me absorbed.

A Catalogue Of Bizarre Events.....
Compelling psychological suspense. A gripping read which follows our protagonist, Amy, who is struggling to make sense of a veritable catalogue of bizarre events. Twists and turns aplenty with a credible cast. Will Amy find the truth?

That was a really riveting story! It was told from the perspective of three characters Amy, Fiona and Jess (Amy's daughter). Whilst Jess was an innocent caught up in the story, Amy and Fiona were the main focus of the story.

With you getting the chance to read the story from Amy's and Fiona's perspective, it was hard to figure out who was lying and who was telling the truth!

You also got brief interludes going back to 1996 when Kimberley, a young girl, died because of an accident.

When Matt, who was supposed to get married to Amy disappears in the present, it leads to questions as to whether the two incidents are linked.

I can't say I really liked Amy or Fiona, although I did feel sorry for the way Matt treated Amy. Matt was a narcissistic pig and I hated him.

The only one I liked was Jess. She was brave, intelligent and really saw Matt for the kind of person he truly was. Amy was lucky to have a daughter like Jess.

I wasn't sure about the cops either. I felt they were way to harsh on Amy. I felt myself feeling sorry for her at times.

Just on a side note, I think this would have been a good book to read on the Pigeonhole app! I think my fellow readers would have had plenty to comment on whilst reading this!

Thank you to NetGalley, Debbie Howells and publisher Avon Books UK for the chance to read this book.

Kill one man, and you are a murderer.

Amy's fiance disappears two weeks before their wedding. Already filled with worry and grief, Amy is being hit with yet another shocking discovery, her beloved Matt has been living a double life. And miles away, Matt's girlfriend Fiona is full of suspicion of Amy's involvement in Matt's disappearance.

Matt is not the only connection between Amy and Fiona. The two women have a wretched past, that both of them are trying to escape.

Great plot, I was very surprised by the turn of the events at the end. The dialogue felt a bit cheesy at times, but otherwise, it’s a smooth and entertaining read. Thank you NetGalley and Avon publisher for a free and advanced copy of the book.

Another book that keeps you guessing... In this thriller, if you pay close enough attention, you can pick up on little clues, but it will still leave you wondering, do I have the correct theory? This was very well written with the twists and turns. I loved that is had 4 different POV. I think
that is what threw me off at first. Well done. Ms. Howells.

This book keeps you guessing until the end, although, eventually, the number of 'coincidences' slightly gives the game away. Well written.

Amy is due to get married in two weeks but when her fiance Matt disappears she is left with no choice but to call the wedding off as the police investigation is underway. Meanwhile, Fiona also reports her missing partner, Matt, to the police. He was supposed to be moving in with her.

Amy refuses to believe that Matt has been living a double but police quickly prove this is the case and begin questioning both women. Where is Matt? And, who's version of events do the police believe?

The Vow, is a beautifully written domestic thriller told from the perspectives of Amy, Fiona and Amy's daughter Jess. The book, goes between the present day and the past, allowing us an insight into Amy's childhood.

The characters and the story of this book are so well developed. For example, Amy is a herbalist and it was evident Debbie did her research as within the story we what different herbs and flowers mean etc. I thought this was really well done as it gave so much depth to Amy's character and made her profession and passion come to life. Furthermore, it wasn't just the main characters who were well portrayed- so often in books minor characters get name dropped and it is hard to imagine them - but even minor characters were brought to life throughout this book.

The Vow sucked me in right from the start and I found it immensely gripping. Unfortunately, the book was a little predictable as I guessed the ending about half way through, but never the less I was still hooked and keen to read more.

Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for an advance copy.

I just finished this novel, and really enjoyed it. There weren't many shocking twists, but the unfolding of the story worked well. It is a story of family, friendship, the way our choices impact not only our futures but have the ability to destroy others. I read it as more of a literary fiction than a suspense/thriller. It reminded me of the feeling I had as I was reading Little Fires Everywhere.

I enjoyed this story very much, it is full of twists and turns that gave me whiplash there was so much going on. It started well and I was drawn into this story immediately and couldn't wait to see where it would lead me. Full of mystery, scandals, unsavoury characters it had everything that makes a psychological story a really good read.

Told from different four POV's it goes from the present and flits back to the past to find out all the dirty secrets that Amy and Fiona have kept to themselves over the years. Amy was, I thought, a slightly naive and gullible person who was wearing rose coloured glasses when it came to her fiance Matt. Fiona was a mystery that I was dying to find out more about, and Matt was just a sheep in wolf's clothing. Amy's daughter Jess was the only person that talked some sense in this story and was very level headed. and likeable.

I did revel in the way the author has written this story; she took me on a journey through many a twisted road. Just when I thought I had worked out what was going on she turned the whole lot upside down and I was back to square one, wondering what on earth was happening, It certainly kept me on my toes guessing right until the very end. For me, the only slight downside to the story was that I would have is that I felt the story lagged in the middle and was at times slightly repetitive but that being said I was mainly held captive all the way through and couldn't wait to find out what would happen.

This is definitely a recommended read!!

I really enjoyed this book and found that once I'd read the first chapter I couldn't put it down as I had to find out the answers.

Amy and Matt are planning to get married in a couple of weeks. Its going to be the winter wedding of their dreams. The venue is booked, invites out and the vows are written. But then Matt suddenly disappears and it quickly becomes apparent that he has been leading a double life of which Amy has no idea. Amy also has hidden secrets in her past too. I don't want to give anything further away as it will spoil the plot

I enjoyed that this story was told from multiple view points and I especially like hearing from Jess and found her side of the story to be very illuminating regarding Matt and her mother's relationship. The let down for me and why I've only given this 4 stars is the way the police procedurals were handled. WPC Page seems to have a split personality when one minute she appear to be on Amy's side and agreeing that Matt's behaviour was aggressive and the next chapter she is sharp with Amy and quite mean. Also the police allow Jess to do most of the leg work with the investigation which is really a little unbelievable.

There were some great twists in this tale and I really enjoyed the plant symbolism as well as the tales from the past events of 1996. I would definitely read work from this author in the future.

A very dark and twisted story of revenge.
All the characters are well thought out and provide enough detail for you to feel invested and want to go along with the story. You can empathise with the main character and also feel the anger and betrayal of them.
The whole story is believable enough to add to the tension.

What an amazing story! Starting with a mystery about a missing fiancé, Matt the perfect partner, I was curious to find out what had happened. Then hints start dropping and the story helter-skelters you into a real nail biting psychological thriller, with twists and turns a plenty, keeping you engrossed, desperate to put the clues together.
The characters were realistically portrayed with Amy, the main character, an experienced herbalist, trying desperately to find out what had happened to Matt. There were times when I was so involved I wanted to shake Amy to make her think! Her amazing daughter Jess, forever supporting her mother, reflected a genuinely strong relationship.
The introduction of the mysterious and self-confident Fiona adds yet another layer to the story.
Set in a village and around Brighton, effectively described and easily drawing me in, without me being aware of reading description, I found scenes effortlessly unfolding in my head.
The subtle pointers and hints leave you speculating and trying to untangle the threads which gradually reveal the complex plot.
I loved this book and was heavily emotionally involved sharing the feelings and confusion alongside the characters. I read late into the night to finish it.

Amy and Matt are due to be married in a couple of weeks but he has mysteriously disappeared. Added to this he has been leading a secret double life.
However, some people are not who they say they are and another long buried secret jeopardises their freedom. This is a story about secrets, relationships, revenge and loyalty. Amy’s daughter Jess sets out to discover the truth but will the police believe her ?

A new to me author and a first book is always exiting to read for me especially when I have no idea what to expect and I mostly go in blind.
I’m happy that I did choose this thriller because it was so worth it.
From the first chapter to the last, I was invested in this story and wanted to know more and especially why Max has disappeared.
So many secrets to unveil with each chapter and so many twists and turns that some were predictable and some very unexpected.
A great read for the suspense lovers.

Holy Cow! What an amazing story full of twists and turns just when i thought i had it figured out another twist was thrown in the mix! I was immediately invested in the characters Amy and Matt are to be married in just two weeks time when all of the sudden he seems to vanish off the face of the Earth but not before Amy is approached by a woman telling her that Matt is no good for her and that she may find herself in some serious trouble! Immediately confused Amy rushes home only to receive a call from Matt stating that he has to take a client out to dinner and he may be late coming home. He never does return home though which is immediately troubling to Amy so she reaches out to everyone she can think of then ultimately involves the Police. Another woman comes forward about her partnet missing also...Was matt living a double life?

This is definitely a must read thriller! Thanks Netgalley and Publisher! Debbie Howell has a new fan and i cant wait to see what else she comes out with!

This book has it all: an intriguing story, unreliable narrators, lies, secrets and a character you love to hate.

Two weeks before the wedding Amy’s fiancé Matt goes missing. He just does not come home after having dinner with a client. Amy is devastated. She is so happy to have found love again after an unhappy marriage and years of her own raising her daughter Jess. Amy tells the police how happy she and Matt were and how much they were looking forward to their wedding. But were they really?

This was a fun read. The book is fast paced and there are a few twists. I read it in one sitting and while the story offers nothing knew it is still very entertaining.

Amys planning her wedding day, its going to be perfect. perfect husband to be, perfect homegrown flowers and perfect dress. But then a strange worman warns Amy that somethings not right and Matt goes missing. Then she finds he'd been in a relationship with another woman.

This story messes with your head a little, questioning who to believe and wodnering what ahs been going on. Is Matt dead? Kidnapped or has he got cold feet? Is Fiona as innocent as she claims? And why does something make me not want to trust Amy? I also didnt trust her best friend.

As the story develops and we learn more about the cast I think theres hints but the twist in the story is perfect

The police are looking for two missing men. Their fiancé's have reported them as missing. But the investigation soon takes a mysterious turn when they discover both missing men are in fact the same man.

The story starts as the bride to be gets a warning from a stranger, then her fiancé disappears, two weeks before the wedding. While this might seem to be an often used plot line, the story Debbie Howells weaves in THE VOW is a unique twist on the plot. Moving from one woman to the other's POV, we learn disturbing facts about all of the characters and what began as a man running away from his mess, turns into much more. Much, much more.
A great twist and some layered tension made this a book I'll make sure my friends read, even if I have to buy it for them.

Debbie Howells is an author whose books I always enjoy... hello Her Sisters Lie 🙌. The Vow was a twisty and surprising psychological thriller that kept me up past my bedtime. The ending was very cleverly done, really didn’t see it coming.

Matt and Amy are the perfect couple and are about to get married. But 2 weeks before the wedding, Matt disappears without a trace. In her search to find him she discovers that he was living a double life, with another woman. He was not that man she thought he was. Amy has her own secrets as well. Wait til you find out about her past!

Thanks to Avon Books UK and Netgalley for my advanced copy of this book to read.

I'm not going to write a lot about this book other than to say it is absolutely superb and should not be missed by readers of psychological murder thrillers.
Whenever I start to read a book and the main character is a woman in her thirties (although Amy might have been over 40!) I dread the panic setting in and her job, life, family and friends all seem to crash or disappear as she wrestles with the problems or judgments thrown at her. (Notice I have not said challenges). This book does not proceed like that and I found myself thinking 'yes I can see how and why she reacted that way'
Brilliant and not to be missed

Matt comes into Amy’s life like a whirlwind and before she knows it they have booked their wedding. Jess, her grown up daughter is going to be a bridesmaid. When he goes missing two weeks before their wedding, Amy slowly begins to realise her fiancé is not the lovely caring man she thought he was but one who has been controlling every aspect of her life.

Jess is very wary of Matt and does not trust him or his motives.

Debbie Howell has written a well thought out and intelligent story. Her groundwork is meticulous and the way she collects all the bric-a-brac and arranges them into a glorious picture is a sight to behold (or in this case read).

What a fantastic, well written book, I loved every page and the story line was page turning which kept me on the edge of my seat from the very beginning.

Thank you to Netgalley and Avon Books for giving me the opportunity to read this great book, a very worthy five stars.

I loved the premise of this finding out your fiance has been living a double life with another woman as well as yourself. It is told in alternating perspectives from Amy the fiancee, her daughter Jess, and the other woman Fiona also interspersed with events from 1996 from an as yet unidentified narrator.

There was lots to like but also some areas where it didn't quite fulfil its potential. The story and suspense built steadily throughout, with lots going on with the present day and past flashbacks to keep interest high. It also wasn't obvious the way it was going to pan out or who to suspect. However, that said the second half of the book lost a bit of momentum and I felt slightly let down in the way it turned out. In the end there were a lot of threads that didn't come to anything eg Matt past love life, Cath and the mystery warning.

Most of the characters were really likable, particularly pragmatic, astute, loyal Jess and unreliable, contradictory Amy who will drive you crazy. I was disappointed with Fiona though as her character less developed and consequently quite one-dimensional. I would have liked a bit more about what happened to her in the end.

So, overall a bit mixed but definitely worth a read.

I love finding a new author who writes a terrific debut suspense/thriller. Amy and Matt are getting married in two weeks, just a few final details remain. That is until Matt disappears. As the story unfolds, you meet Jess, Amy's daughter from her first marriage, and her friend Cath. Amy has a wonderful daughter, her own herbalist business that she built, and is now marrying a man she loves. After Matt disappears and their love story begins to unravel, details from their pasts come to light and this story is just hard to put down. Thank you Avon Books UK and #netgalley for allowing me to preview this book #thevow

The Vow tells the twisted story of Amy, who hides a dark and painful secret. Engaged to Matt, they are two weeks away from getting married when he fails to come home from work one night. From that moment on, Amy's life is never to be the same again. When the police receive another report of a missing man, it matches Matt's description, and it becomes clear that he was leading a double life. The other woman is Fiona Rose and she tells the police that Matt was about to leave Amy for her, and that Amy is disturbed - that Matt was frightened of what she might do when he told her he was leaving her.

Amy's grown up daughter Jess never liked Matt, and saw how he treated Amy - why couldn't Amy see it?

As the story flashes back to 1996, it's clear that there is a mystery that has something to do with Matt's disappearance.

As the police question and arrest Amy it seems that she has no way of proving her innocence. But Jess is on the case and it's clear that in this story, nobody is quite who they claim to be.

A thriller with plenty of twists and turns, a great escapist read and well-written.

As Amy is walking down the street, she is approached by a woman who tells her not to trust Matt and that' something bad is about to happe. Spooked but not convinced Amy goes home, and gets a call from Matt to say he's taking a client out for dinner and will be late home. When she wakes up and he's not there she knows something is wrong and tried to call him but it goes to voicemail, she reports him to the police as a missing oerson..... Then she receives the flowers and it escalates from there. Who can you believe and what secret has Amy got in her last that seems to be affecting her now?

Amy is planning her wedding to the love of her life, delivering herbal remedies, and watching from afar as daughter, Jess, thrives at university. Life is good. One afternoon however, she is accosted by an old woman in The Lanes in Brighton who warns her of an unexplained danger.

Matt, her fiance, has swept her off her feet and the big day can't come quick enough for her. She's convinced the old lady was mad and nothing will spoil her vision of a perfect future, but when Matt calls to say he has to work late she goes happily off to bed having no idea how awful everything is about to get.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was a different storyline than I had expected and all the better for it. I expected some stereotyping but instead the main protagonists were well written and believable, with strong female characters and a location obviously well loved by the author. Amy is a herbalist and once again Debbie Howells' knowledge and love of her subject shine through providing an originality and realism throughout.

Story of a double life, danger, entrigue

Descriptive writing style and the different narrators had me hooked from Page 1, and I couldn’t put it down. What happens when a fiancée goes missing just 2 weeks before your wedding and your world starts falling apart. Second-time bride Amy is excited for her upcoming wedding to Matt, until he goes missing and strange things start happening to her, She reports him missing, and a few days later, so does another woman, his Partner! They don’t know about each other...or do they? Just as you are getting comfortable with the storyline of missing Matt, and you are vested which She Said/She Said, a new twist comes into play and everyone is in trouble. Add a determined daughter and a few minor characters and the book will have you hook, line and sinker!

Enjoyed this fast paced thriller by a new author for me. I look forward to reading her again. Thanks to Ms. Howells, Avon Books UK and NetGalley for this ARC. Opinion is mine alone!

Although this novel contains a few too many of the tropes of contemporary psychological thrillers, it is an enjoyable read, well written and with interesting characters. The theme of the central character having their life turned upside down by unexpected discoveries with inevitable twists and turns along the way has been somewhat overdone recently but Debbie Howells keeps the reader onside by keeping the theme fresh.

Great premise to a book of two different women reporting the same man missing, a man they both claim was their partner. It is a page-turner with lots of twists and unreliable narrators and will keep you gripped. It does require a suspension of belief but as an escapist read, it certainly works.

This was an entertaining book. It was told from multiple points of view, as a mysterious disappearance unfolds. It kept me guessing about what was really going on. I enjoyed this book.

All night she thinks they are just pre-wedding jitters, but when Matt still isn’t home the next morning, she knows it is a sign of what is ahead. With just two weeks to go until the big day, why would he do this to her? It is so uncharacteristic of him not to return home from his business meeting; even more so that he does’t show up for work the next day, nor the one after that. A visit from the detective takes Amy's fear to the next level. Another woman has reported her fiancée missing too? He fits Matt’s description. What are the chances? Matt’s passport and clothes are still in the drawers. She even finds a copy of the endearing wedding vow he’s written. Surely he isn’t planning on leaving! Then her worst fear is realized. Surveillance cameras pick up evidence that Matt could be leading a double life.

This well-crafted, immensely gripping thriller will have you second-guessing each character and madly flipping pages. Told from 3 alternating perspectives (Amy, Fiona, and Amy’s daughter, Jess) a story of sorrow, manipulation and revenge emerges. As the plot unravels, you’ll be reminded that things aren’t always as they seem and the past has a way of catching up with us. Howell’s engaging storyline will have you identifying, empathizing, and believing in one character so fiercely only to swiftly shred your hypothesis to pieces in the next chapter. You’ll be constantly second-guessing the reliability of each character’s actions and sweating with heart palpitations as the relentless detectives attempt to get at the truth.

The success of the author's writing, I believe, is three-fold. Firstly, she lives in a village near Steyning, England. In fact, during one interview for Sussex Life, she reveals that she lives “in a small cottage up a very quiet lane”. Knowing rural country village life herself, makes her character’s actions and social interactions come to life. Secondly, Howells is able to draw on her previous career as the owner of a thriving wedding floristry business. Knowing the names and secret languages of the flowers would help the author describe the country gardens and build up to Amy’s livelihood. Finally, the author is able to successfully get into the character’s minds and what motivated them as a result of her university studies in psychology. There is no doubt in my mind that this helped Howells adeptly write about bizarre behavior and make the interview process so believable. The culminating effect is a mystery masterpiece.

You’ll have to pick up a copy of this book on October 15, 2020 and decide for yourself: Which one of these women do you believe? What happened to Matt? Is there a wedding or a funeral?

Thank you to Debbie Howells, Netgalley and Avon Books for gifting me this advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

If I had to describe this book in one word, it would be gripping. I seriously couldn't put this down because of the excellent pacing and well-timed plot twists and reveals. The story follows two women, both of whom have been at the heart of an accident and victims of betrayal and accusations. Amy's soon-to-be husband has run away and as if that wasn't enough she finds out he was planning on leaving her. From there it's a mystery as they try to find Matt or even his killer and fingers start flying everywhere.

This book was just so well-paced and yet again we see women in toxic relationships who are too blind with love to notice anything. My heart went out for Amy and I really enjoyed reading about her as she tried t solve the mystery her life became. Since this book is told in multiple point of views though, you get really confused as to what is real because every character paints their own narrative and this certainly takes the story to a whole new level. There's an aspect of herbalism to the story that gives it almost a witchy wibe which I absolutely loved because I spent half of the book wondering if any witchcraft or magic was involved.

I believe I found this as a sort of psychological thriller and while I'm not sure I would pitch it as that, I would recommend this book if you're a fan of mysteries that lapse over two timelines and have a sort of what-is-really-happening aspect.

The book starts with introducing the reader to Amy and Matt who are due to be married in two weeks. Amy seems over the moon as she has been alone for some time with her daughter, who has recently left for university.
As the story progresses we learn that Matt may have been living a doubly life and things may not have been as harmonious as portrayed. When he fails to come home after a work meeting Amy is forced to contact the police to report him missing.
We learn that he has been having a relationship with a local solicitor, Fiona and the story is told from her point of view, alongside that of Amy and her daughter Jess.
I was drawn to the book initially by the fabulous cover and the blurb made it look like an interesting read. It was very suspenseful and the characters were well written and there was a connection to the past that I kept guessing at and was wrong several times.
It was a tense thriller but also a story about relationships and manipulation and the love of a daughter for her mum and her confidence that she was the innocent party.
I would definitely recommend this book and will be looking forward to reading others by the author.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Set in the picturesque village of Steyning on the outskirts of Brighton,Debbie Howell’s The Vow begins with final preparations being made for Amy and Matt’s impending nuptials. It’s an exciting time for Amy, single parent to daughter Jess whose away at university, finally having met the man she wishes to spend the rest of her life with. Personalised vows have been written, invites sent, outfits sorted so there is very little left for the couple to do save confirming seating arrangements with the wedding planner. When a work meeting forces Matt to cancel this arrangement, Amy isn’t too concerned. However twenty four hours later when he’s still failed to return Amy’s increasingly anxious calls she’s forced to involve the police in his sudden disappearance. Is it a case of cold feet, is he the victim of an accident or are there darker forces at play?

There is an immediate assumption that the title refers to wedding vows, that in this instance are never formally voiced but could there be a more sinister relevance, maybe the vow is a long held vow of secrecy instead? If so who could be involved in such a pact, who has secrets they are at pains to keep hidden? This is a thriller rife with deception, unhappiness, secrecy, tragedy and revenge giving the reader plenty to think about. Naturally the truth will rear its ugly head at some point; the fun is in wondering how the author will take you from point A to point B!

The Vow’s storyline is very much centred around a relationship defined by abusive and manipulative behaviour, aspects of which are well favoured by authors of this genre. Gradually, as more details of Matt’s disappearance are divulged and it transpires he has been leading a double life, never intending to make his vows with Amy, it descends into one of ‘she said she said’ with Amy and the other woman Fiona (whose name we only learn of in part two)going head to head in the believability stakes. Which woman’s version of events sound the most plausible? As a lawyer is Fiona the more credible individual as opposed to Amy whose career as a herbalist is less recognised as a trustworthy profession? Are they both ignorant of each other’s existence or could they be connected in ways the reader is not yet privy to? Just like WPC Page I didn’t trust either women’s version of events, suspecting they were both being economical with the truth.

I liked how the storyline is told in two parts although I think the first half is much stronger in terms of suspense. The narrative relies heavily on both womens perspectives as well as Jess’s and is easy to follow. To further muddy the waters there is a mystery voice interspersed throughout, alluding to a past incident that shapes the lives of all involved and is responsible for the current predicament Amy and Fiona find themselves in. Whilst I read this thriller quickly and found it enjoyable I admit to not being a fan of plots that rely on an ordinary civilian playing amateur detective, uncovering crucial details the actual police investigation fails to find. In my opinion it lends an air of implausibility to the unfolding drama and is my major criticism of the plot.

Apart from Jess I didn’t like this untrustworthy bunch of characters. Given Matt’s treatment of Amy I should have felt able to empathise with the woman but I could immediately sense she’s no angel with more than likely a few skeletons in her closet. Both the therapist and best friend behave in ways that raise alarm bells and of course the other woman, Fiona, by the mere fact she’s part of Matt’s double life does nothing to win my favour or support.

My home town of Brighton and Hove seems to be a favoured location amongst crime/thriller writers and I couldn’t help wondering why the author has chosen the city and surrounding areas as the setting for her latest novel. I don’t think the location has any substantial bearing on the plot, as it’s one of those storylines that could take place anywhere in the countryside. Maybe Amy’s profession as herbalist, far more pertinent to the plot, fits in with the alternative side of life that the city is well known for and of course as a long time resident of the city it’s as good a place as any to set a thriller!

Whilst I liked the storyline I didn’t really love it and by the time the penny dropped my interest was waning. For me it was one of those storylines that began strongly but lost momentum towards the end. However there are plenty of red herrings to keep you guessing for the majority of the time and I’ll confess to not knowing whether I should have been on team Amy or team Fiona and for those reasons I still think this psychological thriller is worthy of four stars. My thanks as always to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read in exchange for an honest review.

Amy has a lovely life, after a rocky marriage she has met the man of her dreams, she lives in a house with a lovely garden where she can grow the herbs for her herbalist business, and has planned her dream wedding. Her husband to be rings her one evening to say he will be late home... and never returns. As she contacts police and friends to find out what has happened, events begin to spiral and we learn that things are not quite as they seemed, and Amy has events in her past that will rise to affect her present.

Her daughter Jess is solidly convinced of her innocence, and is determined to find out who is setting her mother up.

There are lots of plot twists, and it is feels almost too much to accept convolution of the final events. I did suspect what was happening some way beforehand, although I was convinced another character was involved who appeared innocent by the end. It all felt a bit contrived and unbelievable.

Overall it gripped the reader, and I enjoyed it but I wasn't totally convinced with the plot. Simpler might have worked better.

Amy narrates her story, alternating between Jess (daughter of Amy) and Fiona’s narration. Jess’s narration which starts later gives the reader a perspective to the story. The plot involves a few characters and, navigating through them is easy. As the chapters progress, everyone seems to have a motive in the disappearance of Matt.

The story captures the reader’s attention, and one cannot keep the book down. The central theme is abusive relationships. Unlike, the physical abuse this abuse does not leave any mark on the body. But it scars the mind and soul of the victim.

Debbie Howells builds up the story with a good pace, to let the reader soak up the clues and past episodes.

Jess, Fiona and Amy capture of most of the scenes, but it ended abruptly for Fiona. The readers would have preferred to know what happens with her at the end. Amy and Jess develop with the story.

Howells writing is impeccable. She weaves a mystery with a gentle pace and engaging readers her with subtlety.

My rating for the book is 3.5 stars.

Vows are usually made at weddings, but they can also mean a devastating promise to someone!

Amy and Matt are getting married in two weeks, but when Matt leaves for a business trip, he never comes back. Amy and the police investigate Matt’s disappearance and came to find that Fiona also reported him missing. Was Matt leading a double life? Was he a spy? A twin? With so many unanswered questions, Amy searches answer to the trying situation she is in!!

The story starts off well, blends in beautifully with the characters, but there were some parts that felt dragged and a bit unnecessary, but I never felt the need to put down this book! It was that good. If you love psychological/urban thrillers, pick this one!

Thank you Avon Books UK, Debbie Howells and Netgalley for the ARC. This is my own honest opinion!

A fast paced twisty psychological thriller that will grab you from the first page.

Matt and Amy are getting married. It’s only a couple of weeks until the big day but one evening Matt doesn’t return home from entertaining a work client.

The following day Matt still hasn’t returned and Amy can’t reach him on the phone or at work so she reports him missing to the police.

When the police start to investigate they discover another woman, Fiona, has reported her boyfriend, Matt, missing. Could they be the same Matt ? Was he living a double life ?

What follows is a twisty tale told by Amy, Fiona and Jess, Amy’s daughter. We soon learn that not everything is as it seems but will the truth be discovered before it’s too late ? This is so much more that a missing person story and you will be hooked right from the start.

This is a fantastic mysterious/thriller. It kept me guessing until the very end with some very brilliantly placed red herrings. I don't mind if I predict the ending as long as it flows with the plot. I don't like when endings come out of nowhere. This ending was perfect. I never felt like the author was giving us too much or too little information.

Matt disappears two weeks before his wedding to Amy. Then another woman also reports him as missing. Who is this woman and how does she know Matt? What happened to Matt? Where is he? Who was involved in his disappearance? So many question and so many clues.
The Vow kept me intrigued from the first page to the last. Do yourself a favor and read this one.

2 weeks before her dream wedding to Matt, Amy realizes he has disappeared. A few days later, another woman calls the police to report Matt missing, saying she was in a relationship with him, and that he was leaving Amy for her. What unravels is twisty. When I first started reading this, I wasn't too impressed. Amy was too naïve, Matt was a schemer, and Fiona seemed a bitter woman. But then, all the pieces started coming together. Thankfully, Amy had her teenage daughter, Jess there to look out for her. I was a bit disappointed with the police investigation. When someone goes missing, it seems to me that nowadays, the first thing they look at is social media to answer some questions, look for clues or follow up on leads. The police in this story did not do that.
Instead, Jess was on Facebook connecting dots, researching past news articles and brought all that she discovered to the police. That being said, this was good little mystery of what happened the night Matt disappeared. This book is set to release 10/15/20. Thank you NetGalley, Avon Books UK and Debbie Howells.

Thank you NetGalley, Avon Books UK, and Debbie Howells for the e-ARC of The Vow, which releases on 15 October 2020.

The Vow was chock full of suspense, buried secrets, and double identities and I enjoyed every minute reading it!

Amy and Matt are getting married in weeks when Matt suddenly disappears. Soon, another woman emerges with claims that Matt was leaving Amy for her and that Matt has been saying for years that Amy is unstable and dangerous. Is there any way this can be true? We soon find Amy, her daughter Jess, and a host of friends (who may or may not be trustworthy) left to put together the pieces of a puzzle that seems ever changing.

In the midst of the present day drama, there is also a second storyline following the mysterious death of a teenager and the subsequent effects on her family and friends that happened many years ago. This part was a little confusing for me as both the POV and timeline shifted without notice and it wasn't until well into the book that I was able to understand how these clues fit the storyline.

An additional aspect of the novel I really enjoyed was the botany/gardening aspects. Amy is a herbalist so there was extensive discussion of plants and their uses that I found interesting.

Overall this was a solid suspense that I would definitely recommend to mystery/thriller fans--especially those who can't resist a double life situation.

***POSSIBLE SPOILERS***

After reading the synopsis for The Vow I was intrigued and looking forward to reading it. The storyline was there, the unreliable narrators were there as was the slow build that uncovered more and more secrets. As things unfolded I began having a harder time with Matt's character, I know he wasn't supposed to be a terrific guy he's the character you love to have, but the abusive tactics were hard to read. (I also think there should have been some trigger warnings about this). I also felt as though the 96 hours the police were able to hold Amy was dragged on more than necessary; "lets talk about this one more time" but nothing new was added to the story line. This was a good read, fast paced, but nothing I'd rush to recommend or rearrange your TBR for.

This one came on strong at the start, with a frantic Amy trying to locate her fiance Matt after he disappeared a couple of weeks before their wedding. Not long thereafter, a woman named Fiona reports her lover's disappearance. He was, she claims, about to ditch his fiance and move in with her. As I expected when the second woman turned up, evidence - including photos - prove that the guy reported missing by both is one and the same.

Also about the same time, I got a sense of deja vu; not all that long ago, I recalled reading a different book with a plot about two women claiming the other was lying about "her" man. Please God, I said to myself, don't let this one end the same way. Thankfully, it didn't, but I know my enjoyment of this book was dimmed a bit because my mind couldn't help constantly making comparisons.

At any rate, each woman claims not to know the other one, and both insist Matt was a loyal, loving partner who would never dream of leaving them in the lurch. But clearly, at least one of them is very wrong. As Amy learns what her daughter and friends really thought of Matt, the chapters shift between the perspectives of the two women and readers learn secrets from their past lives that may be coming back to haunt them. The rest of the book follows their thoughts and actions as well as the police investigation that culminates in a sort of surprise ending (one which, I'm sure, would have turned out differently - and frankly, more to my liking - had the story taken place under the auspices of the U.S. legal system). I also noticed a bit too much repetition, especially as the various characters fill each other in on what's happening.

That said, it's an intriguing, fast-paced story that kept me swiping the pages of my Kindle right to the end - and I thank the publisher, via NetGalley, for allowing me to read and review a pre-release copy.

This book was really good! This is hard to review without spoilers so I can’t say much. I LOVED that I was constantly changing my mind on who did... any of the incidents that happened. I’m still not even sure we got the full answer at the end. Some parts are a little slow and could be cut out to speed it up but overall I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it!

I'm torn here on a 4.5 star rating, on whether to give it a 5 or a 4. I'm going with a 4 on due to not being completely blown away (and my stupid high standards).

That being said though, this was a superb book. The first quarter was it's weakest but it did draw you in, I thought a few times that I'd sussed it really early on but boy was I wrong.

As I read on I got more and more pulled into the story line, the webs of lies, the hidden links, I certainly did not guess the ending.

I was satisfied to a point with the ending, but I LOVE a book with absolutely no loose ends at all!

This is a brilliant book that well and truly had me hooked.
Amy is due to marry Matt but a couple of weeks before the wedding he doesn’t come home.
After phoning around, she decides to call the Police.
Getting more and more worried Amy starts to crumble.
This is made worse when the Police tell her that another woman has reported Matt missing and he’d told her he was going to leave Amy the night he went missing.
Amy is under suspicion but she really can’t understand what is happening.
In part two of the book we get Fiona’s perspective and more and more information is revealed.
Saying any more will spoil the story, so I’ll stop there....
I can say this is a brilliant psychological thriller that is full of secrets and lies.
Thanks to Avon Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

A woman’s fiancé disappears two weeks before the wedding. Could it be the blissful life she thought isn’t what it seems. Especially when another woman reports him missing too, claiming to be his girlfriend.
The author has written a fantastic book. All fans of who dunnit books will love this. There are plenty of little twists thrown in. Every time I thought I’d solved the puzzle another clue was dropped in making me change my mind again. This is one book you won’t put down go the very end.

Two weeks before her wedding, a stranger stops and tells Amy that she is in danger. That night her fiance, Matt doesn't come home. Amy phones the police and reports Matt missing. She's forced to call off her wedding. Then, another man is reported missing by someone called Fiona. The man matches Matt's description. Amy doesn't believe that Matt and Fiona could be lovers but photographs prove this to be true. Matt has been leading a double life.

This story is told from Amy, Fiona and Jess's point of views. There is also some snippets from another person from 1996. A story of secrets and lies. I did not like Matt or Fiona. Matt was controlling, I don't know why any woman liked him. I was pulled in quickly to this story needing to know what was going on. This is a well written and twist filled story. I read this book I one sitting.

I would like to thank #NetGalley, #AvonBooksUK and the author #DebbieHowells for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

OMG this is a rollercoaster of a read.

Matt and Amy are looking forward to getting married. But Matt fails to return home from work and his phone is switched off.

Amy reports Matt missing, but then another woman reports Matt missing – and she knows all about Matts relationship with Amy and paints a very different picture to the domestic harmony Amy paints.

The plot unfolds between four main viewpoints Amy, Amy’s daughter Jess and Fiona (the other woman – or is she?), and a third viewpoint from 1996. And what comes together is a very thick plot with lots of red herrings and lots of suspects. What has happened to Matt and who was responsible?

Keeps you guessing to the end with a very satisfactory outcome that leaves you looking over your shoulder and wondering what people really think about you.

My thanks to Avon Books U.K. for an eARC via NetGalley of ‘The Vow’ by Debbie Howells in exchange for an honest review.

This novel ticked all the boxes for what I look for in a psychological thriller/domestic noir.

Two weeks before her wedding, Amy is stopped by a stranger in the street with an unsettling warning about danger. That same night her fiancé, Matt, doesn’t come home. The next day she is unable to contact him and calls the police. They have a wait and see attitude.

Then another man is reported missing, a man matching Matt’s description. His girlfriend, Fiona, says he was about to leave his fiancée for her. Amy is in denial until photos prove otherwise. It becomes clear Matt has been living a double life. The police become more interested as circumstantial evidence mounts .... against Amy.

I won’t say more about the plot as I always feel that these kind of thrillers are best approached ‘cold’. The narrative moves between three first person viewpoints: Amy, Fiona, and Jess, Amy’s daughter, who has just started uni. It also contains the occasional cryptic flashback to events in 1996.

Amy is an herbalist with her own business, who grows her herbs in a very atmospheric old garden as well as mixes her own products. The book contained information about various plants and even the language of flowers. Throughout the early days of Matt’s disappearance I was very aware that Amy couldn’t just stress out but was sorting out orders for her clients. It was a quite subtle way of establishing her character.

So often psychological thrillers are advertised with statements like “impossible to put down” or “totally gripping”. In this case I will enthusiastically say that ‘The Vow’ certainly lived up to these descriptions and then some.

I was thoroughly engrossed from the start. I even had to contain myself from skipping ahead as I was so keyed up. ‘The Vow’ certainly kept me guessing right to its satisfying final pages.

This was a very fast paced, interesting thriller. What started out as a simple missing person mystery, soon turned into a dark, twisty and shocking thriller, and who doesn't love an unreliable narrator?!
Thoroughly enjoyable.
I will definitely look for more offerings from the author.

Amy is about to get married and preparations are on track for the big day in a couple of weeks. She's out and about one day when she is accosted by a stranger who warns her that she is in danger. Then, that night, fiancé Matt doesn't come home. After repeatedly trying to make contact with him, she eventually calls the police. If things weren't bad enough for her, another woman, Fiona, also reports Matt missing, claiming to be the woman that Matt was about to dump Amy for and move in with. despite Amy's disbelief, there's evidence to back up this fact but even with the double life he has obviously been leading, none of this explains where Matt is or what has happened to him?
An so begins a rather convoluted, twisty, and turny tale of secrets, lies and a hearty slice of dysfunctional behaviour that begins back when Any was a teen, interspersing past into present as the story meanders on, peeling back the layers until the rather shocking truth is all laid bare.
The tale is told by three people - Amy, Fiona, and Any's daughter Jess, as well as the all to prevalent these days "unknown narrator" speaking from back in 1996. Each had a unique voice and were easy to differentiate between.
Characters were, let's just say, interesting. I lost track of how many times I swung my allegiance between them all, after finally deciding that maybe they all need their heads banging together! So many secrets and lies...
Yes, OK, at times it went a little OTT, as seems to be the norm in a lot of books of this genre these days, but I guess it just made it all the more interesting along the way!
All in all, a good solid read that, although I had my niggles, did keep my attention nicely and left me mostly satisfied. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

Thanks to NetGalley and to the publisher for the ARC, which I received in exchange for my honest review. As is common in many books of this genre, The Vow is told through multiple points of view. Amy and Matt seem like the perfect couple until the groom disappears just a few weeks before the wedding. When another woman comes forward with information about Matt, Amy begins to realize that the man she loves has been living a double life. But Amy is harboring plenty of secrets of her own.

The book is fast paced and full of suspense and intrigue. As the author peels away the layers of Amy and Matt's lives many secrets are revealed. While some of the reveals were easy to guess, there were some genuine twist and turns in the book.

Overall, The Vow is a solid domestic thriller.

I think this would be a brilliant book club read, with the question: who had the greater punishment? A fiancé who goes missing just two weeks before his wedding to a woman who thinks he is Mr Perfect. A daughter who thinks he is anything but. A mistress who is running away from her past. There are so many secrets in this book, which is interspersed with a back story from 1996. I couldn’t see where it was going for a while, and skipped over the flashbacks, until I knew enough to want to go back and read them again because they tied the whole story together. Highly recommended.

The Vow has introduced me to an author that I'll most certainly read again.

I was captured initially by the blurb of this novel, just as you are supposed to be. However, in recent times, I've found that occasionally the blurb is better than the novel itself.

Absolutely not in the case here!Debbie Howells captured my attention from the very first page and produced a story that kept me guessing right until the very end.

Every action and reaction that the author describes is questioned throughout, leaving the reader happily confused as to what really happened and who could possibly be responsible.

What a wonderful way to be introduced to a new author! We'll meet again...I have NO doubt.

An interesting read, which I read in one sitting. The writing from three main viewpoints is mostly well paced, though later on one viewpoint becomes slightly repetitive which briefly interrupted the pace and flow for me. The story that unfolds through the pages is compelling. Experienced thriller readers will almost certainly have guessed where the plot is leading to before the climax, but this doesn’t detract from the story or make you less keen to speed through its pages. I was still suspicious of various additional characters, and wanted justice to be served. For me, the least believable/ weakest parts were the interviews with the police and the evidence ultimately used as a basis for conviction for one character. (This evidence was based on an interpretation of things from the past, and I felt it probably would not have stood up sufficiently in court to secure the conviction.)
I enjoyed this. Enough twists to keep me motivated to continue turning the pages and a theme of mental health which felt relevant and contemporary in today’s society. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free ARC in exchange for an honest review. 3.5* rounded up.

the story kept my interest, two or more unreliable narrators, hints of another person involved which had me fear for daughter's safety. well written but with more of a romance feel than a psychological thriller

Amy is engaged to Matt and is busy putting the final touches to their wedding in two weeks time. Then one day she gets a call from Matt saying he will be late home - but then never arrives. As the police investigate him as a missing person, Amy starts learning that he was not the man she thought he was. He was cheating on her with Fiona, but Fiona hasn't seen him either.

As the evidence starts to stack up against Amy, her daughter Jess is determined to find out the truth - little realising just what that truth is.

The story is a slow starter and is a bit repetitive but it soon picks up pace as each character tells their tale with their twists and turns as the links start to reveal themselves. A good read overall

In two weeks time, Amy will marry the man she loves. That is until he she learns he's gone missing. As she tries to figure out what's going on, she realises she knew nothing about him. Suddenly her life begins to unravel in a way she would have never expected.

I had no idea what this book was about when I dove in and was pleasantly surprised that it turned out to be a bit of a thriller. Debbie Howells weaved in the plot twists so well that I was never 100% certain of which way the book was going to go. The characters were well written as I didn't know who to trust and that is a pretty perfect set up for a thriller. If you're interested in herbs, plants and gardens, they play an important role in this book and I now feel like this is an area I need to look into. All in all, a good thriller that kept me turning the pages.

Everything was perfect. And then her fiance disappeared…

Amy and Matt appear to have the perfect relationship and in two weeks time it will be their wedding day. Whilst out delivering to a client in Brighton, Amy is stopped by a random woman, claiming Amy doesn't know who Matt really is and warning her that she is in grave danger, she immediately dismisses her ranting behaviour, certain the woman doesn't know what she's talking about, but later that night Matt doesn't come home and when he's still not back the next morning Amy is forced to call the police to report him missing. When another man, fitting Matt's description, is also reported missing by a woman called Fiona, Amy refuses to believe that it's her Matt, he wouldn't do this to her, would he? As the police dig deeper it emerges that he's been living a double life, but that isn't the only thing that's been kept secret and when it's all revealed the lies will have far reaching consequences on many lives. The big question is, will they find Matt and is he still alive?

The story is told from three perspectives; Amy, Fiona and Jess in the present day, with a few snippets from an unknown person going back to 1996, it's a tale of love, obsession, secrets and lies. I was definitely Team Amy and refused to believe that she was anything but innocent in Matt's disappearance and was really rooting for her and the truth to be uncovered. I didn't like Matt at all, with his controlling behaviour and I didn't care much for Fiona either. It's a well crafted plot that draws the reader in from the first page and keeps you hooked till the end. The author tells the story so seamlessly with the right amount of mystery and intrigue to keep you wanting more, this is the first book I've read by Howells, devouring it in less than a day, but it won't be the last. A fabulous read which I highly recommend.

I'd like to thank Avon Books and Netgalley for the approval, I will post my review on Goodreads now and Amazon on publication day.

Matt was clearly a rat- he left both Amy and Fiona more or less at the altar- at more or less the same time! But now he's disappeared (of course he has) and lots of secrets are about to spill out. This is told alternately by Amy, her daughter Jess, and Fiona. It moves back and forth between the present and the 1990s. There's more to all of these people (except maybe Jess) than meets the eye at first. It's twisty and sometimes a little out there but the writing is good and you will be entertained. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. No spoilers from me.

I read this book in one afternoon as I could not put it down. To weave a tale like this around these two girls takes some imagination.
Trying to work out truths from lies, facts from fiction, and who is writing the sub text?
A gripping story, which travels backwards and forwards from 1996 to the present day, made even more believable as I know the areas along the South Coast where the book is set.

What a great read!

Amy is getting married to Matt. She has an 18 year old daughter called Jess from a previous relationship and feels like she is given a second chance at love when she meets Matt.

Amy is a herbalist and creates remedies from plants that she has grown in her garden. This is an integral part of the story. Whilst delivering an order, an old lady randomly approaches Amy and tells her not to trust Matt and that she is in danger. Amy thinks nothing of it. That night, Matt disappears and she reports it to the police.

Another woman named Fiona then reports her boyfriend as missing. It turns out to also be Matt and she claims that he was about to leave Amy for her. He had been leading a double life. But is Matt the only connection that the two ladies have?

The story is told from the narratives of Amy, Fiona and Jess. We learn that Jess has never liked Matt but said nothing because she thought that her mother seemed happy.

We also have flashbacks of an tragic event that happened back in 1996 between a Kimberley and Charlie. In true thriller fashion, everything unravels and makes sense as you read on. It had me totally gripped!

I received an ARC copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. What would you do if your fiance disappeared two weeks before your wedding and you find out that he was in love with another woman who he was going to leave you for? This book is told by both women, Amy and Fiona, and Amy's daughter Jess. It had me really trying to figure out which character was crazy or if they both were crazy. Amy grows and sells herbs and is having alot of guilt in her part of a teenage death that happened many years ago. I enjoyed this book. I felt like it was dragging at parts but then really picked up towards the end.

Amy, madly in love, is distraught when the man she’s going to marry in two weeks disappears. What follows turns her whole world upside down. I knew I was going to like this book from the first paragraph and it kept me gripped all the way through despite Amy being a bit of a doormat. Daughter Jess seemed much more sensible and adult like. It’s a pity Fiona didn’t feature a bit more than she did. Loved the entwining of herbs and flower meanings into the story, garden descriptions and the inclusion of Steyning, a place I like very much. Thoroughly enjoyed my first book by Ms Howells.

Amy lives with Matt who she is marrying in 2 weeks. She's excited and looking forward to the next stage in her life. Then one day he doesn't come home. Amy's life is turned upside down as she realises that her life with Matt might not be as rosy as she thought.
This psychological thriller is great. The storyline is believable, has enough twists to keep you guessing and the ending ties up everything in a plausible way.
A real page turner. You won't be disappointed. An author to watch

Wow. This was twisted. This just shows how pathological some people can be. This story had traces of Gone Girl and A Simple Favor in it. Very well written and the story was very well crafted. Creepy, but a good read.

The Vow by Debbie Howell's has kept me glued to the book till I reached the end.
An absolute plot twist in the end makes this a very exciting book to read.

The vow is the story of Amy who is engaged to Matt to be married in the next two weeks. She has a young daughter Jess who is very close to her mother and although she does not agree with her mother's choice she is supporting her. Although the story starts in a simple way when Matt goes missing. The police arrest Amy du to circumstantial evidence and the story unfolds for the reader as it goes along. Jess who is her mother's great supporter is the only one who stands by her and tries to unravel the truth. To add to the existing story, a past that Amy had conveniently hidden comes to light and that's where the story gets very interesting

The characters are very well written. As the story unfolds I as a reader was going through phases of liking her and hating her and then reached a place where I just went with the story to wait till the end to know what was Amy like. Jess is a very lovable and a strong character. Although I had my judgements about Cathy, she really was a great friend. Matt was a character I was not sure right from the beginning and it was rightfully so.

I enjoyed the journey of reading the story. If you love to read stories where the plot gets from simple to twisted then you will definitely like this. I will definitely recommend this story to all those who love to read psychological thrillers.

I thank the author, the publisher and Netgalley for accepting my request to read and review the book. All the opinions expressed in the review are entirely mine.

****A refreshing and absorbing thriller***

I thought The Vow was an engaging, edgy and intelligent psychological suspense story.

This book kept me guessing throughout, and I kept asking myself where was this story heading? I thought it was completely unpredictable and a refreshing book. I was on edge the whole time reading this, asking myself who could be trusted, and who most definitely couldn't. There was plenty of twists and turns along the way, and overall I thought this was an unsettling and absorbing thriller.

Told from a variety of perspectives, this tale is about Amy and her fiance - who vanishes two weeks before their wedding. Accusations and secrets begin to appear as Amy's life swiftly unravels, with everyone wanting to know where Matt is.

This book is a compelling read, and I would recommend for those who enjoy intense psychological thrillers.

Thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for the ARC in exchange for my honest review of "The Vow" by Debbie Howells.

Amy thinks that she's finally about to have the life she always dreamed of. Dream home, dream wedding, dream husband. But then two weeks before her wedding a mysterious stranger in the street grabs her arm and tells her she's in danger. When Matt, the man she's to marry, doesn't come home that night, Amy gets a bad feeling that there's more to this warning than she had thought. The plot thickens when another woman also reports Matt missing, with claims that Matt was going to leave Amy to be with her instead. As the investigation digs deeper, both women tell plausible tales, but who is telling the truth? What happened to Matt?

This book was so mind-bending! With so many unreliable voices and characters, it was hard to know what was real and what was fake. Add on to that all the new identities and new names people had taken on. Crazy. At times, it was a little frustrating, but thank goodness for Amy's daughter being a clear headed voice to lean on.

I think that it's interesting that this book questions gaslighting in the book, as well. Is Amy gaslighting Matt? Is Matt gaslighting both women? In a web of manipulation, this feels like an obvious answer, but things are never that simple. This extra layer of doubt adds to the mystery.

Overall, I gave this book 4 stars. I wish that things would have been just a little more clear. For a brief moment it felt like it might tip over the line into witchcraft and spells. It got to be a little confusing and a little frustrating. But the mystery of Matt kept me hooked. In the end, I think that the resolution connected well with the past and gave this book a satisfying end.
