Although the book didn't download in correct page order, I was able to piece it together and enjoyed the story! I think littles will get a kick out of the clever cat's use of it's cone of shame! The illustrations were a hoot! Will definitely place ion my suggestion to buy list!
Finally, a protagonist one can really root for. Will Jeremy, the cat make peace with the new plastic cone cramping his style or will he figure out a way to Macgyver himself out of his predicament?
Guess you will have to read Cone Cat to find out.
Just when I thought that maybe I’d read enough picture books about animals, along comes Jeremy, home from the vet as Cone Cat. “I am Cone Cat now he told himself. I will never be the same.”
This book is cute, funny and gets the essence of being a cat.
I read a digital proof of Cone Cat via NetGalley and the publisher, Owlkids Books.
The story and art is adorable . The lesson about resilience and adapting to changes is also accessible and pertinent to children. It'd be a great addition to elementary libraries.
I requested and received an e-ARC of this book from Sarah Howden and Owlkids Books through NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
If you have ever owned a mischievous cat, then this story will resonate with you and your family. I love the range of emotions Jeremy the cat feels about his cone, at time’s it is his worst enemy and then his best friend. This was a fun story about Cone Cat (Jeremy) and the antics he gets into with and without his cone.
I found this book to be very funny. Even though I don't have a cat, I have a dog who has experienced the dreaded cone. At first, Jeremy was freaking out about this huge cone on his head. He eventually adapted it to be of extra use to him, such as helping him collect things from cushions, and much more!
This book is awesome!!! Jeremy, aka Cone Cat, is the cutest little cat. I read this to my five year old son, who is in to superheroes, Mario, and Sonic ONLY, and he loved it! As soon as I finished, he begged me to read it again. He has requested it every night since. This book is so funny, and the writing and illustration are both excellent.. Every elementary and public library needs to get this book., and everyone with a child in between 3 and 8 needs it as well. We will certainly be hoping for more Cone Cat books!
Edited 7-9;to add: We still have to read this book EVERY NIGHT!!! Luckily, it is so funny and cute, I don’t mind. I really hope there are more books about Jeremy (or perhaps a cone puppy!) to come!
Cone Cat by Sarah Howden is a cute picture book about Jeremy the cat, who finds himself wearing a cone after a trip to the vets. At first he despises the cone, and then he finds out that he can use it to his advantage.
The illustrations were adorable! I believe kids will enjoy following Cone Cat's adventures from one page to the next, and that adults either present at storytime or reading to their kids will also enjoy the story - especially if they've had a cat of their own.
Starting with the cover, I think some kids will get a kick out of the grumpy cat having to wear a cone.
Trials and tribulations of Cone Cat (formerly known as Jeremy) as he laments the cone as an obstacle, but ultimately finds silly ways that it is a positive. Not for everyone, but honestly I've met a lot of kids who automatically love any book about cats.
This book is a mood. It captures cats in a way we all expect if cats could communicate with us. This book needs to be a read aloud right after Winter break when teachers and students alike don't want to come back but we all show up anyway. Cat lovers everywhere this book is for you.
I received an electronic ARC from OwlKids through NetGalley.
Jeremy the cat begins the story wearing a cone. At first, he's miserable but learns to use the cone to get what he wants - food, bugs, comfortable stuffing. Young readers will enjoy his antics and the inevitable conclusion after the cone is removed. He explores too much and finishes back in a cone with a worse injury. Cat owners will relate to these antics too.
The illustrations clearly show the expressions for characters - human and animal. The text is straightforward to follow.
This was such a cute story and the art was so adorable!!! As a cat lover and owner, I really enjoyed this one and how Jeremy tried to get around the dreaded cone.
A sweet and funny story of a cat with a cone around their neck after a surgery of some kind. Young readers will be fascinated by their shenanigans and the ingenious ways they use to get what they want.
Jeremy the cat wakes at the vet with a new and troublesome Cone. As Cone Cat, he can't seem to do anything he used to do...until he discovers that the cone may actually help him out and sometimes rewards him with tasty (milk, ice cream) and not-so-tasty (spider) treats! My 4-year-old enjoyed this a lot and spent the evening pretend playing as Cone Cat after we read it multiple times. His favorite parts are the cat ripping the stuffing out of the chair and also the phrase "fat squirrel." Four stars.
So so so funny! The cat is just such a cat - all about food, and avoiding the kid, and getting into things. It was just a great story. Kids will want to read it over and over.
I received an ARC through NetGalley from Owlkids Books. This picture book focuses on a cat who after a visit to the Vet has to wear a cone. At first he is frustrated, but then he sees the benefits or perks of wearing the cone. This is a good story for a child with a cast or something that is holding them back. It will make them see the bright side and know they could have a hidden super power too. The illustrations were cute, Jeremy the cat was funny and it was easy to read. Ages 3-7.

I adored the art style and the story line! I loved the mischief the cat gets in. It’s so cute and it shows how much the authors love their cats. This book will make many children laugh and maybe some will even want a cat after reading it. I will definitely keep this book in mind and be recommending it to several customers.

"Cone Cat" by Sarah Howden tells the adventures of a cat named Jeremy. Jeremy enjoyed many things from his day to day life but after a trip to the vet, Jeremy has to wear a cone around his head. He finds it annoying as he can't do the things he loved before such as catch bugs and drink from the cereal bowl. Jeremy thought he would never be the same. Jeremy grows to be used to the cone and learns to adapt his lifestyle to the cone. This is a good pick for showing readers how to face and overcome a challenge. Recommended for grades K - 4
Thank you to Sarah Howden, Owlkids Books, and Net Galley for the ARC of Cone Cat! Cone Cat was a sweet book about learning to love the things that we might first not like. I really enjoyed the sweet story, and the pictures were beautiful! My son, who is 5, really enjoyed the book, and asked to read it again!
A wonderfully sweet story. One that any cat lover can identify with. The cat behaves and gets into trouble just like cats will do. It’s funny and kids everywhere will find all the antics hysterical. I did!
