I can't wait to read this during a storytime - I think a feltboard would lend nicely to reading this story! The word play with the animal and vegetable combos was great, as were the illustrations and the story about loving one another and treating things with kindness.

This is a story where all the characters are mashups of animals and vegetables. They are funny-like a pugtato and a carrat (the Purrsnip really creeped me out) and a Collie-flower. Pugato finds a thing that he doesn't know what it is - it's sparkly and roundish and so he asks all his friends. The friends each have a different idea of what to do with it but in the end, it turns out to be a new kind of friend. If the vegetable animal combinations don't freak you out, it's a nice enough story.

Meh. Cute character with lots of potential. Unremarkable retread of a well-worn storyline. Even the initially cute animal/veggie friends gag runs long in the tooth very quickly. Too bad because he would've made a a heck of a cute plush animal tie-in.

The character designs and illustrations alone make this book well worth reading. Every creature is so flipping cute!

Have you ever wondered how a potato-dog might look? Well, if you are interested, you should read Pugtato Finds a Thing. Pugtato is a pug/potato hybrid that loves to digs and finds a Thing when he is digging one day. He doesn't know what this Thing is, so he takes it to his friends to find out. All of his friends are also hybrid animal-vegetables, like Tweetroot, Tomatoad, and Cowbbage. Each of Pugtato's friends tries to tell Pugtato what the Thing is; however, Pugtato doesn't like what they do to it. Finally, Pugtato takes the Thing to the wise Unicorn on the Cob, who tells Pugtato to follow his heart for the answer. When Pugtato does that, he finds out what the Thing is.

I've never seen a children's book like Pugtato Finds a Thing. This was a really cute story about taking care of something you find because you never know what it might be. I will be purchasing this book for my son when he is a little older because this is a great book for 3 to 8-year-olds. The illustrations are great; I loved how each animal/vegetable was portrayed. The names of Pugtato's friends were great, and any young child will enjoy it. They might even start calling their vegetables the different names in the book for fun. If you are looking for a great, simple, and silly story about friendship and taking care of things, I highly suggest this fun book.

This book was very cute it coupled vegetables with animals which I thought were very cute like a pug dog and a potato. I think this would be a good book to show kids different kinds of vegetables. The basic story is about the little pug potato finds a special and he keeps asking people what it is because he doesn't feel like he's smart enough to figure it out on his own.

Gather all your friends and family, even the grumpy ones. You will all make a new friend with Pugtato (just your normal potato dog!) He lives in a garden with a community of friends that will keep you feeling young at heart as you meet them. After Pugtato makes a special discovery and asks all his friends for help, you will see the power of natural intuition and being true to yourself. This message is light and so needed for kids and adults today. A sweet and pleasant read!

I absolutely adore this book. I thought it was charming. I loved the veggie animals and their pun-y names. I thought the story was cute. I also like how the "thing" Pugtato finds is never explained. The kids will love trying to tell you what they think it is. I think I might like to see this book turned into a series of books.
I can see my library purchasing a copy of this book. I also see myself turning this story into a felt story and telling it to the kids in my storytime sessions.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

As a pug owner, I was quite excited to get my hands on Pugtato Finds a Thing. By the title and cover alone, I knew this had to be good. Thankfully, it did not let me down. The story was really cute, and I enjoyed the illustrations a lot. The story has a good message as well about following your heart. Overall, a cute read that kids will adore.

I picked up this picture book because of the title. I mean, Pugtato, it’s adorable. The art style made me smile and wish there was a plush of Pugtato. The rhyming lines made it that much more cuter. Any dog lover would love this story. Turning all the animals into vegetables is adorable. Ex) Pursnip instead of parsnip. It’s very creative and unique. This story made me feel great after reading it. This is a great and funny bedtime story that every kid will enjoy.

WOW. This book is beyond words adorable and clever!! The illustrations are perfection, as are the characters! My son just loved this and I cannot imagine a child that wouldn't. Pugtato is SO CUTE and I'm glad he followed his heart. Are there more books in this series? If not- there absolutely needs to be! A must purchase for our household.

Thank you so much to Netgalley, the author Sophie Corrigan and Zonderkidz for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Oh my goodness! This is just the cutest, most original, fun to read book that I've seen in a while! I found myself eager to turn the page to discover what the mentioned veganimal would look like! While some may have been a bit of a stretch, I enjoyed the imaginative take of combining animals with veggies so much that I just chuckled and enjoyed it! I will enjoy reading this with my kids many more times! It is adorable and has a good lesson; what else can I ask for!

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the chance to read and review this book. I truly enjoyed it!

Wow, what an adorable book! Pugtato Finds A Thing is a sweet story of a hybrid potato-pug creature that follows their potato-heart to make a new discovery, and a new friend. The rhymes make for a great read-a-loud, the illustrations are cute and hilarious, and all of Pugtato's animal-food hybrid friends make for really fun reading experience for kids as they identify the foods/animals throughout the story. The only drawback to the book is the gendering of the characters. I wish the author would have gone with gender-neutral language instead of assigning pronouns.

The illustrations in this book are absolutely adorable, but the story itself is a bit slight and underwhelming, as is the rhyme scheme. Cute but not an essential purchase.

Is there anything cuter than a pug shaped like a potato? Uhm, I think not. Pugtato loves to dig in the mud, and one day he finds a shiny, round thing that seems to glow. He wants to knwo what it is, so he consults some of his friends, including other animal veggie combos, which is imaginative and adorable as it sounds. I won’t give the full details of my favorite of Pugtato’s “spuddies,” but I will say it’s half unicorn!

This is a fun little book for your little ones about friendship. It’s also a good opportunity to let kids identify both veggies and animals, and I think they will be delighted at the mashups. This one is out in August, just in time for some of the harvest season, so it’s a good little theme to tie into Storytime.

Such a cute book! My daughter read this with me and we both laughed out loud a couple of times! The names of the vegetable/animal characters were so creative and we loved finding out what each new one would be named. The illustrations were fabulous, it was full of fun rhyming words, and there was a great lesson in the end. I also love when a book encourages the love of healthy food and this does that for sure! I can't wait to read this book to my first grade students when we go back to school, they will love it!

I am a big fan of Sophie Corrigan's books and here her fabulous Pugtato character has an adventure all of his own!
Pugtato finds a 'Thing' in the ground and he decides to take it to some of his best spuddys to find out if they know what it is. He goes to visit Tomatoad, the three Brussels Snouts and Collieflower (among others!), but it take a chat with the Unicorn on the Cob to make him realise the Thing just needs a little bit of kindness. And that kindness produces some surprising results!
Sophie's veggie characters are sheer genius! Each one made me smile and the whole book is packed full of giggles for little ones and grown ups too. The story is adventurous and fun with a lovely message, and the rhyming is lively and silly and brilliant!
