Engaging book with some solid and inspiring ideas written by someone who's very relatable thanks to how comfortable he is sharing his own mistakes.

An eye opening book about grabbing what you want and making yourself a better version. Highly recommend as a great self help book.

Great book! Truly insightful as a self-help book, and one I will definitely reference in the future.

Not your typical non-fiction, pick yourself up by your bootstraps (although there is some of that) improve your life book. I found the author’s style was as if he were specifically talking to me. The style is also engaging, humorous and self-deprecating on his own experiences. He doesn’t come across as if he did all the right things, it’s a balance of life experiences and lessons that he’s relaying in the hopes of helping others find the path to the life that they want. Although it took me awhile to read, that’s because I needed to process what he is saying and use the tools provided to examine my thoughts, actions and desires. It’s definitely worth a read. I will go back through the book again and take a harder look at the full complement of questions and formulate a to do list. Thank you to Rodale Books, the author and NetGalley for a review copy of the book. #liveyourbestlife #getitdone #bestmein2021

Antonio ‘Tony’ Neves has possibly written the least annoying self-help book I have read in a long time. He is sincerely positive and really wants to help by sharing what he has learned by his experiences and more. He speaks to you in ‘plain talk’ with just a few ‘self-help’ catch phrases we have all heard before. He levels with you, no ‘B.S.,’ because he’s been there before too. He knows exactly what you’re going to say and what your excuses will be. The honesty is so refreshing!

Yes, he is a ‘Success Coach,’ and he has a Podcast: “The Best Thing” but he lives it and means it. Believe me, I am one of the most cynical people on the planet when it comes to this topic, and he’s sold me! I have zero to gain from giving this book a good review except the opportunity of having read it before its final publication, and finally getting motivated to get off my coach during this Global Pandemic!

Tony leads you through his book by simply ‘getting started’ and takes you through various steps with short ‘quizzes’ of five questions you ask yourself, there are no right or wrong answers; sometimes you compare what you’re doing in your life now, to say five or ten years ago. OR, when you thought you were the happiest, or most successful, or whatever your parameters might be. Trust me, he does it better than I’m trying to explain it.

One of the final things he leaves you with is: ‘TOP 5 Things To Do (in some shape or form) on A Daily Basis.
Learn: Listen to a Podcast, Audiobook; read a book, take an online class, once a month.
Sweat: Move, at least 5-10 minutes a day.
Eat: Track what you eat for just a week, to see if you’re eating as well as you think you are.
Meditate: He was a skeptic; I was a skeptic. Research has overwhelmingly proven even 5-10 minutes of quiet time can decrease anxiety and stress.
Connect: Human interaction is key to life, preferably in person, when we can, or at least a phone call so we can hear each other’s voices.
Journal: Write a thought or two on the day or fill the page if you choose. ‘A brain dump is detox for the mind.’
Note: The comments on the Top Five things are my paraphrasing from Tony’s words.

Wherever you are in your life, I really believe this book is worth reading. We all need a push or gentle nudge occasionally so let this sincere, positive person help you too.

Thank you to Netgalley, Rodale Books and Penguin Random House, and Antonio Neves

Stop Living on Autopilot by Antonio Neves is a non-fiction title that forces the reader to stop living their life going through the motions, and to instead reflect on where they are and what can be done to get to where they want to be. This book is filled with so many questions, some easier, but many, many very difficult. The book highlights the importance of not focusing on changing the circumstances of your life, but instead understanding why you are the point you are at in your life. One of the very first questions in this book was "What are the five best things to ever happen to me, but they cannot be traditional milestones (e.g. graduation, marriage, promotion, kids, etc)." Given how long it took me to think of even one without the usual traditional markers of success coming up, it made me realize how focused I have been on achieving, particularly in my career/education. I really enjoyed this book and think this would be valuable for anyone, no matter where you are at in your life. I plan on using many of these questions as journal prompts to take more time to reflect throughout the year. I highly recommend this book, even if you skip reading the text and just use the questions!

Many thanks to the publisher Rodale Books and Netgalley for the ARC in return for an honest review.

This is exactly the book we all need in a year when it's been so easy to switch to autopilot on the most things in our lives so we could go help the air hostess in the back make sure everyone has their peanuts. This book is about living boldly and shifting perspective through living courageously. It contains many sections that I would want to go back to regularly. Enjoyable and understandable read.

I love reading personal growth books and was excited to read "Stop Living on Autopilot" - Something as a working mother and wife is easy to do. Neves' posted a lot of deep questions throughout the book which made me really take a look at my life. I went back to the past and looked at what went right, what went wrong, etc. and learned a lot about how I handled certain things right... and wrong.

I featured the book in my Forbes Leadership column:

2 - Stop Living On Autopilot by Antonio Neves. – to frequently check in with yourself by asking powerful questions

Another approach to successfully navigating a career for the long term can be found in Stop Living On Autopilot by Antonio Neves. Neves is a leadership expert and former journalist and actor. Neves recommends reviewing your results from the last 30 days in the areas you want to work on (whether career, relationships, finances, etc.), as well as making changes with just the next 30 days in mind, at least to start. The frequency with which you would check in on career goals and plan future career steps is helpful given how quickly the market can change.

Neves also offers many self-reflective questions throughout the book that can help you pinpoint the most important areas to focus on. Sample questions include:

1. If your life was a movie, and the movie was halfway over, what would the lead character start doing to turn things around?

2. Was it not meant to be? Or did you give up?

3. Am I living a life where I regularly contribute, or one where I regularly settle?

4. Do the people you spend the most time with make you better? Are you spending time with allies or thieves?

5. What would you like to see happen that would make you feel absolutely amazing in the next thirty days?
