Have just read a few of J.C. Eaton's books. This book is seventh in the Sophie Kimball series.
Sophie's mom is quite comical. So is her dog, whose a bit spoiled.
Sophie's mom is scheduled to do a radio program about her book club. Instead while on air her and her friend find a body in studio while on the air.
Sophie then inserts herself in the investigation against the police wishes.
A quick read. I think it would have helped me if I had read others in the series first, so I understood the characters better.

I laughed out loud numerous times. Phee Kimball is such a delightful character and I love her the way her mind works. She is humble, loyal and inquisitive. This latest in J.C. Eaton's A Sophie Kimball Mystery series has an intriguing mystery and more engaging characters to add to the fun, old regulars. I highly recommend going back and starting the entire series as it is insightful to see how Phee gets to the surprise ending of 'Broadcast 4 Murder'. I can't wait for more!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

I enjoy checking in with these characters, although it does take me a bit to like get back in sync with them. This is more focused on Phee (with of course her mother), and the folks at the investigation business. Not much interaction with the book club ladies doing crazy things. The murders kept me guessing.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is the 7th book in the series. Sophie's mother becomes a radio host but soon discovers a dead body live on air. Can Sophie find the killer before it's too late.

Interesting cozy set in a retirement community in Arizona and while I'm surprised that I haven't read anything in this series before, it was so well constructed that I never got lost. I thought it was well written and filled with fun characters and lots of twists and red herrings. The publisher's blurb is a good hook and if you like Pickleball and private detective agencies you'll love this book.

Sophie "Phee" Kimball works for a private investigation firm in Arizona as their bookkeeper. Her boyfriend, Marshall, is one of the investigators, and they're trying to build a quiet life together. However, that's not going to happen with Phee's mother nearby in Sun City. Harriet's just landed her own radio show on a local station, where she's going to be talking about the murder mysteries her book club reads. But on the first day, Harriet and her friend Myrna discover the body of the programming director with scissors in his chest...while they're on the air. When Phee rushes over to the station, her PI boyfriend and the police not far behind, there's definitely a dead man. So Phee has to deal with two hysterical women who insist there's a killer on the loose and he or she might be after them next.

When Harriet gives Phee the information that the killer might be a jealous girlfriend, Phee finds herself once again drawn into the investigation. But there's more going on -- her boss Nate Williams is having trouble figuring out who's stealing from a local home goods chain, and has asked Phee to go over their books for him and see if she can find out where the discrepancies lie.

But when Phee starts digging into the murder, she thinks there's more going on than meets the eye. And when she discovers the truth, it's wilder than anyone expected, and leads to a fiasco that could take some time to sort out...

I absolutely love this series. Phee is beleaguered by Harriet at every turn, and Harriet is always convinced someone is out to do her in. She drags Phee into her escapades, and there's no way out. This time there's no difference, but when Harriet finds a dead body, she's convinced (again) there's a serial killer on the loose, and is insistent that Phee find the person -- and proceeds to broadcast it to anyone who will listen. She's also convinced the ghost of a dead woman has cursed her and her friends.

Refusing to give up her radio gig, Phee has to placate Harriet and her friends before they tear down what's left of her sanity. Between that and work, she's running ragged, and is out looking for clues from the retirees who might know something. When it all comes to a head, there's an extremely funny scene that I, for one, wouldn't want to be part of, but still would love to watch from the sidelines.

When the murderer is caught it all comes down to one of the oldest motives in the book, but the plot was terrific and the clues gave us enough red herrings that we had to think about who might have done the deed; in the end it was a surprise, but as always, a delightful one that gives us an ending making us look forward to the next in the series. Highly recommended.

Murder On The Airwaves....!
Book seven in the Sophie Kimball mystery series finds Sophie’s mother, Harriet, discovering her voice on radio by hosting the Booked 4 Murder Mystery hour and at the same time discovering a body whilst live on air. Can sometime amateur sleuth, Sophie, help find a killer? Enjoyable mystery with a likeable protagonist and a colourful cast of supporting characters. A solid cosy mystery and a worthy addition to the series.

This is the 7th book in this series following Phee, her mother Harriet and the Sun City murder book club. It was the first of the series that I've read and it seems like the characters and the retirement community have a well established backstory. Phee's mother discovers a body at the local radio station that she's just started at show at. Phee is drawn into help figure out who done it along with her colleagues at the local detective agency. One of which is her boyfriend Marshell. The mystery has a lot of depth and goes in a variety of directions that kept me guessing as to who was behind the crime. I loved all the cozy mystery authors that were shout out in the book and although the story was a little kitschy for me at times I can understand the popularity of the series. If you are looking for a classic cozy series I would recommend this one!

I received this ARC via Netgalley and Kensington Books, in return for an honest review. While the seventh book in this series, it is readable as a standalone. Sophia (Phee) Williams is far more involved with her mother’s active life than she’d expected. Based on the real Sun City West, the story is set in a major retirement, active living, community in Maricopa County, Arizona. Harriet and her friend, Myrna, are the hosts of a new live radio show based on their Booked 4 Murder book group. During their first on-air program, they’re shocked to discover a dead body at the station. As Phee is the accountant for a local investigation agency, she gets recruited to investigate the murder, along with her significant other, Marshall. Harriet and Myrna, and their book group, are also determined to solve the crime, as well as fighting to retain their new, live radio show. Fending off killers and competing personalities keeps life moving.
While I liked Phee, I wasn’t as enamored with her mother and her mother’s doting on her dog, Streetman. Perhaps that’s because I’m now 60 and a cat person. Having the main character take second place in her mother’s affections to a dog didn’t endear me to Harriet. The relationship between Phee and Marshall is strong and supports the story. The author weaves in interesting ways to confuse people like the original owner of the murder weapon being dead for 20 years.

There’s nothing more entertaining than reading a book featuring Phee, Streetman, and all the regulars at Sun City West!
This series gets better each time I read another book in this great series.
The plots are always interesting and the books keep me guessing with each mystery to be unraveled.
I can’t wait to see what happens next.

I think I found a new favorite cozy mystery series! The J.C. Eaton duo positively make the book come alive. I loved the dialogue, adored the characters, and was riveted by the plot! Phee’s mother Harriet and another member of the Booked 4 Murder book club are hosting a live radio show. Harriet couldn’t be more excited. But the excitement quickly turns to apprehension when she makes a very disturbing discovery. The pace is as quick and lively as the mystery is unique and intriguing. I fully appreciated the many twists. This is a cozy mystery at its finest.

I loved this book. It was a fun, quick read with enough mayhem to hold my interest. The mystery aspect wasn't too obvious but also not too difficult. I enjoyed the characters. I actually want to read the prior books now! But I don't feel as though not having read them held me back at all. I hope the author keeps the cover from the eARC...the pooch on the cover is identically marked to my puppy I got for my birthday!!

Thanks to NetGalley for the eARC.

Get ready to have a fun time when Sophie (Phee) and Williams Investigations tackles a case involving two murders, a radio book club, determined senior sleuths and suspect who died 20 years ago at the age of 97!
Phee's mother Harriet, and her fellow book club member Myrna, are selected as the hosts of a Sun City West radio program called Booked 4 Murder Mystery Hour. .When the station manager is murdered and Harriet and Myrna find the body, Phee is recruited to solve the murder and the adventure begins!

I loved everything about the book - the mystery, humor, the lovable characters and of course, Streetman! The story is fast-paced with red herrings everywhere! I enjoy that Phee has become more confident as an investigator and her relationship with Marshall enhances the story. I also enjoy the characters of Augusta and Nate. One of my favorite parts of the book, was when Harriet and Myrna confront a rival for their program time slot - the Lake Fishing with Paul host! It was classic Harriet!

In the series, age is just a number and the Sun City West residents prove that over and over again! The supporting characters are just as important as the main characters and that makes for a wonderfully written mystery with humor, heart and of course the grumpy but lovable Streetman!

I received an ARC from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Broadcast 4 Murder by J.C. Kenney

This book is just plain bad. It is highly contrived, formulaic and a meandering mess of a book. I really dislike being this harsh with a book but J.C. Kenney has long been a favorite of mine and the last couple of books have lost their way. I do not know if they have run out of ideas or hired a ghostwriter or what but something has seriously changed for the worse.
This is the LAST book by them that I will read. There are far too many good books out there to waste my time on this drivel.

This is the 7th installment in the Sophie Kimball Mystery Series. Phee’s (Sophie) life would be a little less stressful and perhaps not as full without her Mother Harriet and her friends at the senior living community. Harriet and her friend are taking on a live radio program of their bookclub called Booked 4 Mystery hour. What could go wrong. Well if Harriet is involved you know plenty. Well for starters Harriet finds the dead body of the program director live on air and screams her head off. Harriet drags Phee in to investigate and then the fun begins. I really love the relationship between Phee and Harriet. The senior community really give her a run for their money and keep this series entertaining. The mystery is solid with lots of unique twists (scissors with a dead person’s prints…) and keeps you engaged. This is a very enjoyable read that will not disappoint.

Phee Kimball’s Mother and a friend have been given a weekly slot for a radio show they are calling the Booked 4 Murder Mystery Hour. While Phee isn’t thrilled that they’re going to discuss murders on the air, she’s even less thrilled when the ladies are broadcasting live and find a dead body in the station. When a second body shows up at the station, Harriet pushes Phee hard to solve the case so she can get back to her show without having to look over her shoulder constantly.

As Williams Investigations gets called in, Phee does some digging on her own while her Mother and her friends received death threats. Now Phee and Williams Investigations are working hard to solve the case before Harriet and her friends left with dead air for good.

This is a fun series and I’m in between Phee and Harriet’s ages, so I can relate to both of them a bit. The husband wife author team always have a solid whodunit and leave me wanting more. I also enjoy their Wine Trail Mystery series too. You can’t go wrong with any of the books from this husband and wife team!

I love this series by JC Eaton. The plot is well written with characters that I have grown to love. The twists and turns make you not want to put the book down. I had no idea who the murderer was for the majority of the book.

I cannot wait foe the next installment in the series!

This was another great cozy from Sun City murder book club. Phee is drawn into another case by her mother who is involved in the local radio station. The characters continue to be well evolved and I can imagine these peoiple. Phee's relationship with Marshall continues to develop which is good to see. There is a lot of action and behind the scenes type of things going on in Sun City. Who would guess that retirees have such an exciting life. The story line does not disappoint as we close in on the culprit. It all comes together in a satisfying conclusion that will make you then regret that it is over
