Wow, Tess Stimson knows how to write a screwed up family dynamic. It's natural to expect Louise and Caz to be enemies - they're the former and current wives of the charismatic Andrew. When Andrew ends up dead at a family party, Louise and Caz point the finger at each other. Which wife is the real culprit, and why? Stimson takes us back in time to untangle the complex web of deceit and hatred that end up fueling murder.
The plot structure borrows from Big Little Lies, but I liked that it followed fewer characters who were more involved in each others' lives, so the story felt nice and tight. Watching Louise and Caz fight was pretty entertaining, and I enjoyed the complexities of both characters. I was able to figure out the ending as I got to the last 10%, but the previous 90% was pretty suspenseful and I was definitely eager to keep reading. This is a good thriller to read in one sitting on a rainy day - it's more emotional, dramatic, and character-driven rather than a creepy or violent book.
Thank you to Harper 360 for providing an ARC on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
One in Three is an enjoyable thriller. Throughout the book I was thought I figured out what happened but didn't find out until the very end.
One in Three is about a man that gets murdered. His wife, Caz, and ex-wife, Louise, are both in the room when his body is found and blame each other. The story then goes back seven week to explain what lead to the murder. The story is told mainly between Caz and Louise's point of view. Everyone looks guilty throughout the book, so you have to wait until the end to find out what happened and why. This story is character focused and really brings the reader into the lives of the different characters.
I recommend this book to anyone that likes character focused thrillers. There are very few likable characters, so if that bothers you I do not recommend this book.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I stayed up until four in the morning because I could not put this book down. It was well written, suspenseful, and had so many twists and turns.
Louise is the ex-wife to Andrew and Caz is the mistress turned current wife. The first chapter tells us about the murder of Andrew. The rest of the book is told with alternating POV’s and explains the tumultuous relationship between everyone. You begin to learn their history and what has made Caz and Louise so spiteful to each other. Just when you think you’ve figured out who killed Andrew there’s another great twist. love books that keep me guessing and this certainly did until the very end!
I received an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review
This book was a bit predictable and formulaic but it’s very engaging and the characters are like able and fun enough that it keeps you sucked in and turning pages through the plot. Solid 3.
Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy of One in Three.
Great book but man, the relationship between Andrew’s current wife Caz and ex-wife Louise is one I couldn’t stand!! These two were at each other’s throats and some of the things they did to each other were terrible! I couldn’t even imagine having to deal with an ex of my spouse, let alone one as ruthless as Louise. However, the real villain in this book was Andrew but, as in real life, no one ever blames the husband. It’s always the wife and/or mistress! When Andrew is murdered within the first chapter or two, you really wonder who is the murderer and the more you read the more confused you get as to who it could be! In the end, I was really surprised and then the final twist had me shocked!
I liked the writing and this was an addictive read
That said, it wasn’t without flaws. The characters were awful and made such poor, selfish decisions. I could see if they were young and single but they are parents and I cringe to think of those poor children. The grandparents weren’t any better, maybe worse.
There were twists, most of which I didn’t see coming. I believe this is because I don’t think the decisions made would be the same of many rational adults. Also, the way everyone was connected in a “small world” way was so off putting and made more strange as the story progressed.
So, I didn’t really like anyone but I couldn’t imagine not seeing how this played out. I wasn’t unhappy at the last (biggest) reveal but I also wasn’t sure it made total sense based on all that came before it?!?! This was strange but like a train wreck, I couldn’t look away. Yeah, I would check out more by this author.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Harper 360 for a copy in exchange for a review.
Both of them loved him. One of them killed him . . .
This book was fast paced, twisty, entertaining with an amazing ending. It’s easy to read, crazy page turner.
I enjoyed every page of this one. Tests really knows how grab and hold your attention.
Told from the alternating perspectives of Louise and Caz.
Overall a fabulous book!
This was quite the suspenseful read, and I really enjoyed it!
Louise and Caz both loved Andrew, but after he is murdered at a family party, his ex-wife and current wife are suddenly pointing the finger at one another. But who is responsible for his death and what drove someone to commit murder?
The buildup of this story was done so well, and while I thought I had figured out who killed Andrew from the get go, I came to realize I was so far off. While I’m not surprised that Andrew was murdered after secrets about him were revealed, it was the real murderer who truly caught me by surprise.
Highly recommend this book! You won’t be disappointed!

I finished this catfight of a book in one setting! I had to know what happened next!
Louise is the ex-wife who is more than bitter and refuses to move on. Caz is the new wife but she's second best. These woman will stop at nothing to win Andrew's love.
Secret after secret fell off every page and I loved to hate each woman more and their craziness had me shaking my head.
This was such a wild ride of a book!
Can't wait to read more of Tess Stimson's work.
Thanks to Netgalley for my advanced ebook copy.
A very good family drama! You know all the crazy is coming to a head but who commits the actual murder? Of course it’s a must read until the very end.
DING DING DING!!! I do believe I have found a new favorite author!!! Tess Stimson absolutely blew me away with every single page in One in Three. I love the first person narrative from each of the characters. I love how I feel sympathy, disgust, and anger toward each of them at some point or another throughout the book. I love that my jaw dropped at least a dozen times. I’m left feeling breathless and satisfied at the end of it all. I’ve already downloaded one of Tess’ previous books and I can’t wait to devour it the same way I devoured this one! Twenty stars from me!!! (Oh... they’re telling me that I can only give 5 stars so I suppose that will have to do.)
I can’t thank Harper 360/Avon and NetGalley enough for granting me the privilege of reading this book in advance!!!
The first paragraph in One in Three by Tess Stimson had me hooked. The descriptions had me both physically and viscerally feeling and experiencing what was happening. Wow, that was a fun ride. This book had me guessing until the truth was revealed, and it was a great ending.
The book delved into the delicate relationships of a blended family with an ex-wife, a new wife, and the children. The story is told from the perspectives of the ex-wife Louise and the new wife Caz. You never really know who to believe in this unfolding story. That's what makes it so good!
The book was fast-paced and had a lot of twists and turns. The story and characters were developed well and kept me interested from page one until the shocking end.
I'd love to read more books by this author. A great read.

Well that was fun! What a twisty delicious domestic noir. Andy, the handsome, charismatic tv anchor, leaves Louise a week after their son is born to live with and marry Caz, a younger woman he was having an affair with while living with Louise and their two children. Caz and Andy now have a son. Fair enough, except he never really gave up Louise a and her extended family who really hope he will get back with Louise. I’m getting ahead of myself, the first chapter shows Andrew lying dead of stab wounds in a beach house where the family was celebrating his ex mother and father in law wedding anniversary. Oh and yes, both Cas and Louise are covered in Andrews blood, all in in the same room, pointing fingers at each other when police arrive alerted by screams. So, which one killed him? We go back to a few weeks before the party and countdown to the killing. Sometimes I was on team Louise, then switched to team Caz and then back again with each new reveal. Andy is back and forth. Ordinary women pushed to the limit fighting over a man seems dated, but not in Stimson’s hands. Fast paced, with plenty of teases and you have to wait until the very end to discover which woman finally came to their senses and did him in. Phew!
