Sorry, this just wasn't for me! I appreciate that you allowed me to review and read this book, I am not comfortable leaving a review on social media for this book. I am not into plant-based meals at the level this author writes with. I don't think I can leave an honest, non-biased as the author rubs me the wrong way a bit. I'll leave the reviews to those who are into plant-based meals as this author is..
Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead.
I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings.
Anything requested and approved will be read and a decent quality review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.
This is a nutrition guide that was written by a doctor and nurse who are vegans, and the focus is on encouraging people to make the transition to a vegan diet with the tools and information to do so. in a healthy way. It covers many reasons to switch to a plant-based diet, from health reasons to ethical reasons, and more. It then details all aspects of nutrition, from individual vitamins to fats and more. I found the case studies and, scientific and medical information really interesting. I never really thought about the food we feed animals and if we had less animals then that food could be used to help feed people who have no food.
There is a recipe section but its not full of photos as this book is about gaining the knowledge on how a plant based diet can work for you and is especially helpful if you have children that you want to eat a vegan diet. I wish I had access to this book when my children were young.
Wow, this is something else! Although I can't imagine following an exclusively plant based diet, I think this would be a cool resource for those that do choose to switch to that lifestyle.
I loved the huge amount of information this book provided. It's a holistic approach to eating that combines the pleasure of great taste with the nourishing characteristics of plants.
This book was packed full of useful infomation, Nourish is not a cookbook but does have some delicious souding recipes that I am excited to try. A great book to help get you started on a plant-based diet.
Very interesting and informative text that will be of great value to any parent looking to enhance their understanding of plant based nutrition. Some will find it too science-heavy - others, like me, welcome the detail to nutrients, how they work in the body, and how to ensure we get enough. The authors take an anti-animal protein stance - readers who already align with this philosophy will like that. Others, like me, who don't eschew animal products but simply want to boost/focus on the goodness of plants may find it a bit moralizing and off putting , particularly as the authors talk through how to persuade other family members to move away from consuming animal products. Overall a very useful text that will strengthen the resolve of anyone looking to learn more about plant foods and how to better incorporate them into their diet. Thank you for the ARC.
Nourish is a very in depth look into plant-based eating. As a lifelong vegetarian I found this book to be very educational. It contains case studies, scientific and medical information regarding vitamins, minerals and overall nutrition. The book also contains recipes along with other valuable information. This is a huge, rather complex book that will be useful for me to refer back to in the future. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital copy.
The book has been organized into 4 key sections: consideration, care, confidence and connection. It talks alot about the best type of diet. And what you put into you body is very important. Also when it comes to kids making sure you are well research as to make sure they are healthy. At the end of the book there are some recipes. Also we're he found it's information from.
Nourish is an incredibly comprehensive book on eating a plant based diet. The book does get quite in-depth and has less recipes than I had hoped for. However, the excellent layout and information is worth the trade. If you’re looking simply fir a cookbook this may not be for you but honestly if this is your chosen lifestyle the information is pretty much invaluable as far as making an educated decision on the subject. I do highly recommend it despite it not being a cookbook so much as I had hoped I learned so much it was worth it!
Really nice book about plantbased nutrition, very useful especially for families. I'm vegan so I always want to support books about the benefits of eating more plants,
Nourishis not a cookbook. I
I did not payed attention to the blurb t's more like a text book, it is full of everything anyone could possibly want to know about veganism. My bad for not reading the description better, but I thought from that beautiful cover that it must be primarily veg-friendly recipes with facts about nutrition tossed in to supplement.
A lot of textbook stile dissertation and graph and statisistics
very few recipes
My thanks to NetGalley, publisher and authors for the ARC. (less)
I loved this new addition to the topic of eating plant based!
The cover is beautiful, first of all. It really caught my eye and made me want to pick it up. You can feel the health!
This book has some great information in it. Broken down into easy to read sections, it doesn't feel overwhelming or judge-y. I think it has the perfect mix of facts, studies, and what to expect. It's very encouraging to read, motivational for new plant based eaters or seasoned plant based eaters that are keeping up on the latest research and recipes.
This book has a great break down of general nutrition and how you can achieve that on a plant based diet. It also breaks down macronutrients and what good sources are for each. It also busts some myths and provides answers to questions you might have (and you will be asked) if you follow a plant based diet.
One of the unique things I found about this book that I haven't seen as often is the entire section dedicated to plant based pregnancy, lactation, breastfeeding, infant, and child diets. That was a helpful addition to the book!
Overall lots of really helpful information and plenty of recipes towards the end to get you started and sustained on a plant based diet.
I thought this was a cookbook when I requested it. I'm not interested in becoming vegan, so this book really wasn't for me. The cover is absolutely beautiful though and that's what initially drew my attention.
Really useful guide for parents - its hard enough feeding kids and nerve wracking when eliminating certain food groups but this guide has enough solid nutritional information to give me confidence
Nourish is an excellent collection of tips, tools, recipes and science behind a plant-based diet. The author includes studies to back up the science, as well as the rationale as to why it is healthier. You will learn everything from tips on stocking your pantry to family meals. Great resource to add to your kitchen bookshelf!
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Whoops, thought this was a cookbook, but it is actually a very informative book about being vegan or what vegan is.
Nourish was an integral part of my journey to plant-based nutrition for my family. Through evidence-based practice, Shah and Davis have created an informative, yet easy to understand guide for creating a smooth transition to plant-based nutrition for the whole family; especially useful for those with concerns about the picky eaters in their lives. I only wish there were a few more recipes.
Loved it! Every recipe I've tried so far has been great. The lemony chickpea pasta is a new favorite.
Well researched but sensible book regarding family nutrition. Includes recipes for the sort of food you actually want to eat ( no food porn here). This should be taught in school and the perhaps we would be a healthier nation.
