A Definitive Plant-Based Nutrition Guide for Families That Are Plant-Based or Simply Plant Curious

While nearly all parents agree that a nutritious diet is important for children to thrive, most feel that their children are not eating a healthy diet. This is not surprising, given the challenges many families face including busy schedules and confusing research about what diet is really best for health.

Authors Reshma Shah, MD, a plant-based pediatrician, and Brenda Davis, RD, a world-renowned expert and pioneer in plant-based nutrition, will empower parents to become experts at nourishing their families for health and with joy. You will discover:

How a diet centered around plants can optimize health, prevent chronic disease, protect our planet, and be an act of radical compassion.

Nutrition specifics for every stage of childhood—from pregnancy and breastfeeding all the way through the teen years.

Answers to many of the common questions that often worry parents (picky eating, nutritional supplements, pediatric weight-related issues, and more )

Tips, strategies, and recipes to bring all of this information to your dinner table as you transition to plant-based eating.

It's nice to know that you don't have to commit to 100% plant-based eating: Simply changing up your family’s menu a week at a time can really make a difference!

With over 40 plant-powered recipes including hearty soups, smoothies, make-ahead breakfast ideas, delicious snacks, and easy weeknight dinners, Nourish will become your family's go-to nutrition resource.

A lot of great information on plant-based eating, filled with explanations and science. A lot of reading packed into this book, so for anyone new and wanting to understand this lifestyle, this a great way to learn, but could be somewhat daunting. It can also be great for those who don’t have some knowledge of nutrition already. Great recipes and many I am eager to try. I was very disappointed that it did not include any photos, especially because of the beautiful cover. A lot of info on feeding kids and families. I’m always looking for great information and recipes on plant-based eating, and this had many from both simple and complex. It also gives a meal planning guide to help, with helpful guides and shopping lists.

Wow! As a Registered Dietitian myself I really loved and appreciated this book as a resource for patients or friends/family. I find the information in this book to be extremely thorough which was surprising to me. Normally books that broach this subject are either too basic or very much had a fad/trendy diet feel to them. I'll admit when I requested this book I expected it to have more recipes and less text however now that I know what the book entails I am surprised yet excited. Well done!

The pandemic has lead to my family eating at home more often. and as we try to navigate healthy options for our family, we have decided to transition to a plant-based diet. This book is a great primer not only to plant based eating but nutrition in general.
🥬
As a medical professional, I really liked the science and studies presented to back up the claims. I liked how the authors focus on the rationale for why a plant-based (not necessarily plant-exclusive) diet is healthier overall, steps you can take to reduce your animal product consumption, how to avoid unhealthy meatless foods, and most importantly, how to find a good balance! I especially appreciated the chapters on reorganization of the pantry, pregnancy and breastfeeding, and the sample menus, recipes, and cooking tips!

A really comprehensive book that is filled with tons of information on eating a plant based diet. If you've got a question about eating plant based, it is sure to be answered here. Pretty much everything is covered including if it's suitable for kids, and lots of facts to back up whats being stated. There's also some handy recipes and guides to what sort of things to be eating and why.

Awesome book about food! It explains each kind of nutrient, where they come from, how much you should eat., what each food does to your body and then there are some recipes at the end. Great book! I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review

I assumed this would be yet another vegetarian recipe book with some tips about raising a plant-based family sprinkled throughout, but in reality, the book went MUCH deeper into vegetarianism, why it's good for the body and the environment, and how to realistically raise children on a plant-based diet healthily and joyfully. It was very research and science-based balanced out by recipes and grocery list ideas. I also really appreciated the fact that the authors addressed eating disorders and how they may be created and/or exacerbated by parents who aren't mindful. Overall, a very informative and motivating resource for those looking to live a vegetarian lifestyle.

This book had tons of great information on how to feel your family in a way that is healthy, as well as how to increase the amount of vegetables your family consumes. At the end of the book, there are also a lot of delicious recipes.

Nutrition experts continue to emphasize the importance of a plant-centered diet. Plant-based diets focus on consuming plant foods and minimizing the use of animal foods. As the number of people switching to plant-centered meals increases, this book serves as a guide to achieving this goal without becoming nutrient-deficient. The authors present the information in clear and plain language and also provide readers with hints for achieving nutrition goals at all age levels. They also provide recommendations for menu planning, shopping, and preparing meals that are plant-centered. In addition, they have included both ideas for “no recipe“ meals as well as several recipes for those who prefer to use them.

This book would work for personal use or as a gift. Either way, the person using this book is on their way to a healthy way of eating.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book provided by the publisher and Net Galley. However, the thoughts expressed are totally my own.
