The recipes seem very easy to follow. The charts for vitamins and minerals at different ages are very helpful. I like that there is a section about talking to doctors about raising your child vegan. I also like how the reasons for being plant based are broken down into health, environmental, and moral reasons. This book is great for parents or people who want children to get started on being plant forward.
The only thing I didn’t like was how all of the recipes were at the end. I think sprinkling in a few short recipes throughout the book may hold people’s attention better.

For anyone starting out trying to learn to live a Plant-based way of eating, this is quite a good guide, nicely organized and readable, with some very nice photos. I have been vegetarian for many, many years, but have recently switched to an ALL WFPB, No SOS diet, and so. this is not really something I would personally use all that often, since it does still utilize salt, sugar and oil. It also isn't really much of a cookbook - there are less than 50 recipes, most of which are fairly basic - but again, for someone just starting out, this would be an excellent introduction.

There is a lot of content leading up to the recipes but not a lot of attention to the recipes themselves. Pictures are essential but missing here.

'Nourish' really is a comprehensive overview of a plant based diet. It covers all the bases and goes into great detail about your nutritional needs (as a baby, young child, teenager, adult and expectant mother), how much you should be eating and how to combine food to get the best benefits. There are some recipes included in the book but it's really more about what foods are best to include in your diet and how to get the most nutrients. When it comes to a healthy plant-based diet, knowledge is half the battle and this book provides that. I have read a lot about vegan and dairy-free diets over the years but there is always something more to learn and I did just that with this book.

There is no denying that the future of food is plants. Whether you're looking to totally embrace the vegan ethos or simply want to reduce the amount of meat you consume, Nourish can help you achieve this. Its intention isn't to convince you to become vegan, although you may choose this path. You may simply decide to reduce the amount of meat you eat or choose to eat more local, seasonal or sustainable foods. Either way, Nourish will inform and support you in your decisions, helping to improve your and your family's health and wellbeing one step at a time.
I have been transitioning to a plant-based diet for several years, and I wish that Nourish had been available when I started on my journey. I have managed to ditch meat for ethical, environmental and health reasons. I have almost eliminated dairy, which my body has never been able to process very well. It has been a challenge, I don't deny it, and I am not there yet. Nourish has become my go-to reference guide as I continue on my plant-based journey.
RATING 5/5
With billions spent on marketing fast food and fad diets, it's easy to become lost and confused by all the noise. With science-based recommendations and practical guidance, Nourish cuts through the melee. It gives you and your family everything that you will need to step onto the path to good health and wellness. I have recommended Nourish to many friends, especially those with young children who wish to bring love and nourishment to their families.

This is not a cook book like I thought it was. It is a very in depth word heavy book. I browsed through the entire thing but it reads more like a text book versus a guide to learn information.

I struggled with this book. I wanted to love it but I had a few issues. First, the tone. It is very sciencey. I get that it is a nutrition science book, but since it is marketed at regular people I expected a friendlier tone. It feels more like a lecture from a teacher. The other big issue I had was that there are no pictures of the recipes, not in the book or online. All that being said, the information in the book was great. I have been vegetarian on and off for years so I am familiar with a lot of the content. The best person for this book is someone who is new to the nutritional side of healthy eating and wants a good basis for understanding what choices to make. I just wish it was a more enjoyable read.

I appreciated the information and know it will be helpful to many. I had hoped for recipes, especially ways to encourage my vegetable-avoiding kids to embrace the benefits of veggies in their meals and snacks. I’ll hang on to it die when they are ready to embrace the nutrition science to understand the importance.

I will be honest, I got this book with its amazing cover thinking it would be full of recipes and I shared the disappointment with many others upon finding out that it isn't.

This is a science based nutritional book which is absolutely jam packed with information for those curious about eating a plant-based diet. Lots and lots of reading to be had for those who are willing.

Although it wasn't what I was expecting and I am not entirely the target audience (I already know that plants are our friends), I support the message and anyone who is trying to live a cruelty free and earth conscious lifestyle.

This book is a great resource for anyone interested in nutrition science, plant based or not. It is obviously geared towards moms that want to go plant-based, but the information is useful for any diet. More of a textbook than a cookbook, there are a limited number of recipes to help promote plant-based diets.

Honestly this one is a pretty boring read. So why 5 stars? Because that is just what this book needs to be. If you or your kids are considering moving to fully plant based diet or even just as a mostly plant based diet, this book will answer your questions. The main focus is how to be properly nourished when you leave meat behind. There are lists of foods to help ease into it. They give you permission to alter your diet as needed. There are a lot of summaries explaining what clinical studies have found to help reassure you that you and your family can be healthy without meat. What do you do if your child comes home and announces they’re now vegetarian or vegan? How do you handle your kid’s time away from home when they’ll be staying with friends or going to birthday parties? This book has you covered.

It ends with a handful of recipes to get you started.

This guide to plant-based family nutrition focuses on not only what to feed children, but how: the authors anticipate all concerns parents might have about making a move to a healthier diet, away from too much animal protein and processed foods. Science is the backbone of their argument for more healthful eating, but the spiritual component concerning animal suffering and the environmental impact of livestock production is emphasized as well. Dr. Reshma Shah, a pediatrician with culinary and nutrition certifications, and Brenda Davis, “the Godmother of Vegan Dietitians,” are both heavyweights in the wellness movement and experts both on plant-based eating and designing meals, especially the all-important family dinner, that will encourage children to make good food choices for a lifetime. This is a very reassuring, thoughtful book; the authors, both parents, know the pitfalls of shifting the diet, especially for children and teenagers constantly exposed to those unfortunate parts of the standard American diet (SAD), namely sugar and processed foods.. But they show you the way to succeed in clear and practical terms. The graphs are easy to read and add much to the value of the book for both the committed reader and those with a more hesitant approach to the new way of eating. This is a virtual encyclopedia of plant-based nutrition. Simple strategies to add more fruits and vegetables in appealing ways are included for every meal, taking the guesswork out of this perennial parents’ dilemma. Finally, there is a generous selection of meal plans and easily mastered recipes to take you through the week. A solid contribution to the nutrition field and a very worthy guide for parents who want to truly nourish their families and to be environmentally responsible. Highly recommended. I received a pre-publication digital copy from NetGalley.

This book is a fantastic resource to learn about plant-based diets and the impact diet has on our bodies and the environment. It is full of charts and diagrams and so information rich! It is not a simple cookbook, but rather, a scientific look at diet and how to nourish our bodies through what we eat.

This was definitely more about nutrition information than it was about good food recipes. There are pairing suggestions for dinners, but I didn't really get the cookbook vibe from this - I definitely got a nutritional education feel from reading this.

Nourish provided some interesting perspectives on nutrition. As a mom, I gleaned helpful information and left what I found to not be helpful. I appreciate the heart to educate and provide solutions to families at all stages.

This is an extremely technical book about how to eat and what to eat. More of a lifestyle change than a quick recipe. There are whole grain, fruits and recipes with vegetables at the end of the book but it's the last quarter of thr book.
There are also suggestions on how to handle picky eaters and advice on raising a well nourished child. #netgalley #nourish
