Beautiful Salads by Pam Powell is packed with gorgeous and unique salads.
I loved that the book was broken into seasonal categories. I enjoyed that it was a mix of mostly items I am familiar with, along with a few new ingredients to play, try, and experiment with. I often find dressings are where I struggle with salad. There are so many delicious recipes to choose from. I have had fun mixing up the dressings on the salads I have tried.
The pictures are all gorgeous and you want to eat the salads right off the page.
I will be buying a copy when this comes out, and it would make the perfect gift for friends and family.
Whether you are looking to try making your own salads or want to change up your salad routine, this book is for you!
I received an electronic advanced reader copy from Quarto Publishing Group- Harvard Common Press and Voyageur Press through NetGalley. All opinions are 100% my own.
Such a fun and useful way to present the salads, according to season that is. The pictures are gorgeous, you can see that the ingredients are fresh and ripe. I am really thankful for the vinaigrettes in the book. I experiment a lot, but I’m also always looking for new ideas. Sometimes I feel like whatever I try they all taste the same, so I will definitely utilize these recipes.
I’m a big fan of salads, and can’t wait to start making these new recipes. I can easily veganize these recipes, which is great! I think my favorites in the book are the spring and summer salads, because that is when I can get fresh ingredients from my own garden. I appreciate all the time and effort the author has put into these salads and the book. You can truly see salads are not just food for her, it’s a passion!
I absolutely love salads and often prepare one for me just about every night. I’ve never considered changing up my routine to base salads on the seasons. Very clever! There is such a variety of ingredients in these recipes I hopefully will find them at my local health store. Other than that, this book has given me so many ideas that I feel I will never get tired of eating salads. Now all I have to convince my husband to try one or two. Great book full of healthy eating choices. I recommend this book should be in every household.
I received an advanced reader copy from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
A gorgeous and inspiring “cook” book! The photographs make me drool! I try to eat a salad a day and love all of these new ideas. I really appreciate that it is organized by season - I wish all cookbooks were done that way. This would be great for a gift. I am pre-ordering the hard copy. Thank you to Voyageur Press, Pam Powell, and Net Galley for the advance digital copy. #beautifulsalads #netgalley
Really good sounding salads with beautiful pictures of each salad to tempt you to make it. Each salad has a different dressing, which you could use on a different salad if you choose. A woman I used to work with made the best salads and the salads in this book remind me of things she would make.
This was an ARC copy from Netgalley.
I love salads and this is the perfect cooking book for me. Great recipes, richly illustrated. I will surely try some of them.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
A great range of salads full of a variety of proteins and greens. Most of the salads are full of commonly found greens but there are also suggestions for more esoteric options like upland cress. I tried two of the salads from the summer season and found them flavorful, full of good textures, and more importantly, easy to make. There could be more photos but they accompany most of the recipes and are stunning.
Beautiful Salads by Pam Powell is a glorious selection of beautiful and easy to make salads. They look fresh and appetising. The book is easy to follow and full of wonderful photos.
The name of this book is completely accurate! This is a perfect book for someone who loves salad, but wants to step up their salad game! The salads and dressings were fancy and not your average salad. If I saw any of these on a menu for a restaurant I would promptly and excitedly order it and I look forward to trying some at home too!
**I received an e-ARC from NetGalley for an honest review**
There are a wide variety of recipes, While most of the dressings are vinaigrettes, there's also a great lemon dill caesar dressing and a cowboy ranch dressing, just to name a couple. Several of the dressings will be perfect as sauces for things like chicken fingers and appetizers as well.
I've only had this book for two days, but I've already made several of the dressings and a few of the salads. I will definitely be picking up a copy of this book for everyone I know for Christmas presents this year!
Overall, my favorite salads (so far!) are the "Grilled Veggies and Cheese Tortellini Salad with basil and sun-dried tomato vinaigrette" and the "Sweet Corn and Confetti Cabbage Slaw with creamy cilantro and cayenne pepper dressing" (this one alone would give an extra star to the book if possible!)
In conclusion, while the pictures alone are enough to make me interested in the book, the actual recipes in "Beautiful Salads" will make this book worth any price I pay to add it to my collection.
I drooled my way through this gorgeous book of 140 tasty organic salad and dressing recipes, gazing at the 60 color photos with growing hunger.
I thought, “I’ll run to the store, stock up on ingredients, and have the Grilled Wild Salmon and Red Raspberry Salad tonight. Then on hub’s upcoming birthday, we’ll celebrate with the Harvest Tomato Panzanella Salad. Add chunky bread, a glass of vino, and voila — a feast!”
I know we’ll glow with good health as we eat our way through the scrumptious recipes, written with love by Pam Powell, founder of Salad Girl Organic Dressings.
One thought: Replace the cover shot with the rainbow-hued Farmer’s Market Cobb Salad, awash in sweet corn, Choggia beets, cherry tomatoes, baby carrots, grilled chicken, and Gorgonzola. Yum!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. A brilliant book with wonderful, mouth-watering pictures! I cannot wait to use these recipes for lunches and for tasty dinners. Also very helpful that it organises recipes by season - useful for buying ingredients and for having those different flavours as the weather changes! Never considered it before.
The author begins her book with clear messages about shopping local and sustainability and even though I wasn't on board with all of her tips I appreciated the attention to detail. The photos are unfussy and presented in a way that makes her recipes accessible- these are eyecatching dishes that anyone can make at home. I will say that while there is a wide variety on offer I did find a heavy reliance on fruit and sugar or honey, which was surprising. I like sweet and savoury now and then but these recipes skewed too sugary for me to use very often. I would have loved to see some more ketogenic friendly options, it's a community that thrives on hearty salads.
Pam Powell breaks down salad by season in this wonderful cookbook. Each season has numerous salad recipes followed by vibrant photos that truly live up to the title "Beautiful Salads".
The pictures in this book are beautiful. The salads are creative and original. And the recipes were delicious. I tried several of the recipes and they were really good!
This cook book is pitched at just the right level: the ideas are fresh and innovative, but the ingredients are realistic and the sort of thing you won’t find it hard to find without having to make special shopping trips.
Each salad has a vinaigrette or other dressing.
I also liked the instructions which are clearly laid out: for example, the mozzarella and shredded kale salad with basil and sun-dried tomato vinaigrette, where the instructions for each part of the recipe are laid out in clear stages, combined at the end.
The photos are nice too - you can see what your salad will look like and be tempted to try a recipe.
Some of the American ingredients will need translating - Arugula is rocket - but this isn’t a problem.
All in all, an inspiring salad cookbook that’s fresh and tempting without being over-complicated.
The recipes in this book show some beautiful salads with ingredients that are far from your boring regular salads. I can’t wait to see if the flavor combinations taste as good as they look!
The cover doesn't do this aptly named book justice. It is really packed with beautiful salads, divided by season, that are easy to make, nutritious and tasty. The author got her start at Madden's Resort in Northern Minnesota and now runs an organic farm and salad dressing business. She's passionate about using healthy, sustainable, organic ingredients and she really knows how to sell a salad. They're all gorgeous and use relatively few ingredients, with a focus on what's in season as the year goes on.
There are color photos for most of the salads, and they're gorgeous. I'd order just about any of them in a restaurant (with the exception of those featuring meats like lamb). There are different salad dressings for each of them, but they're easy to assemble and she teaches you at the start how to make your own simple dressing and how to emulsify it to make it creamy. The recipes are suitable for meat eaters and vegetarians, and most would also be suitable for paleo and gluten free folks (sometimes with a few tweaks for paleo). A number of the recipes are also dairy free and vegan, though animal products are used fairly often. No nutritional information is provided.
I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.
Pam Powell has given us the most Amazing Refreshing and Delightful recipes in her book “Beautiful Salads” This is my favorite salad recipe book that will be used over and over . The BEAUTIFUL photos and easy to follow recipes are impressive. I can’t wait to have this book in my kitchen and many will definitely be purchased as gifts.
Thank You Pam for giving your heart and soul in to this book!❤️
Beautiful Salads by Pam Powell is a true treat for those of us that are bored with ordinary salads!
The book has something for every salad lover. It is organized by season and the recipes are gorgeous to look at. A few definitely caught my attention and I can’t wait to try- Asian Summer Slaw, Spicy Grilled Shrimp and Strawberry, Citron Roasted Brussel Sprouts, and Memorial Day Quinoa are ones I’m going to be trying ASAP.
It’s nice to have a dedicated cookbook just for salads and I would highly recommend this one if you are looking to up your salad game.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book.
