This is a book told by a woman who has a huge purpose in life, knows exactly what it is, and goes after it with passion. She shares her passions, along with the struggles she faced, and teaches that small gestures can have huge impacts. She shares her story of her business with tips and lessons along the way. Great book.
I love hearing about people’s passion projects and how they came about. I had never heard of the Pajama Program but immediately looked it up after reading this. It was inspiring and incredibly moving. One interaction lit a fire under Genevieve and she has been able to impact the lives of so many children. Thank you for sharing your life’s work.
An inspirational story for anyone looking to start their own business. I really appreciated how transparent Piturro was in sharing how she built her company while also being in corporate and the struggle she had to balance both aspects of her life. I faced a similar dilemma myself when I worked full time while juggling my freelance career, feeling guilty if a client called during work hours or scrambling to keep up with two professional inboxes, or else having to work 24/7. A rare 'how I did it' story without coming off as self-serving or over glamorizing the hustle it takes to start your own business.
It was a good book. It gave me a lot to think about. I gave this book 3 out of 5 stars, It would not be something I would normally of read, but I will try books from this author again.
Reading how the Pajama Program came to be was both inspiring and challenging. What seemed like such a little thing, a gesture most people never think of made such impact in the lives of children and staff at shelters in America. It was also challenging because in Genevieve sharing her relationship with Demo, it was clear that we are often so caught up in our lives that we barely live it. We rush to acquire stuff and never stop to appreciate the little things and in March 2020, Covid-19 decided to make us pause and reflect and question our way of life in its own unexpected way.
I love when she shared in the book that "Leadership is measured not by how much you advance but by how much you advance others." It was such a simple statement but the weight of truth in it has me reevaluating what impact I am having in other people's lives. Thanks Netgalley for the eARC.
