As a long time, very part time yogi I appreciated that the models were all different sizes, ages and colors. Yay! Some of the poses were presented the exact opposite of how I learned them, which challenges my brain. I like the reminder of stretching in bed.
What I love most about this book is that is has wonderful photos of people doing yoga at various ages, standing, seated and in certain circumstances such as seated in an airplane. Forget perfection, here you'll see every day people practising yoga. Nothing contrived here, nothing to make you feel inadequate, just straightforward guidance on how to do yoga that will benefit you, even when you can't get yourself to the floor. Well done to the authors, your book is refreshing and motivating. My thanks to Netgalley, author and publisher for providing a digital copy to review.
Not what I was expecting from the book, but it was a decent attempt at explaining how to practice yoga.
As someone whose had 4 back surgeries i found this book to be a surprise. Most yoga books exclude those of us who need to start slowly. This book is good for everyone. I will be purchasing my own printed copy.
This book was received as an ARC from BQB Publishing - WriteLife Publishing in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
This book is the only yoga guide ANYONE should own. In many circumstances, it is hard to find the time, environment, and movements to get yourself centered, calm, and moving. The pictures were absolutely essential because I have heard that just reading the movements in words doesn't always help a lot of people including myself in that I am a visual learner. No matter the time, place, or situation anyone can do simple yoga and achieve pure bliss and still get themselves moving.
We will consider adding this title to our R Non-Fiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
This book isn't what I was expecting when I requested a copy of it but was enjoyable to read through. I expected more physical yoga poses but this is more for very beginners, the elderly and those with a limited range/capacity for movement which is a fantastic book for these types of people.
I liked how this book used real people - not skinny model types but real everyday people, which helps promote the book for all different body types.
Yoga for Mind, body and soul is a perfect ekementary book for anyone starting out in a yoga practice or anyone wanting to connect thrir mind and body through movement and meditation. . The setup is easy to follow.. Along with the illustrations showing step by step postures for chair yoga, meditation and yoga on the go. I would highly recommend it as a guide to assist people in improving their health through the power of yoga, meditation, breath control and the elements of natural grounding..
I loved the many normal looking pictures in this book. So often you pick up a book for yoga and it has impossible standards. These were people of all ages and sizes I could relate to with easy step by step instructions. Highly recommend. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is a quick book with yoga poses for your everyday life. There isn't much on the philosophy of yoga its is mainly just the poses with a little about them. A great book for the beginner to yoga.
I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy free of charge. This is my honest and unbiased opinion of it.
Yoga for Connecting Mind, Body, and Soul is a practical and accessible guide to working yoga into readers' lives. Due out 28th Oct 2020 from BQB, it's 96 pages and will be available in paperback and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately.
This is a well presented, logical, and accessible guide to incorporating yoga in a daily routine. The exercises are presented individually, without (much) context and can be mixed and matched as needed. There's not a whole lot of philosophy or history provided, so for readers who would prefer their yoga instruction and practice mostly devoid of alternative philosophies, there's very little to dismay or distract included here. For people who *do* want all the bells and whistles (crystals, spirit guides, and all) - this book isn't overly full of those things. What it does, and does well is show a variety of sitting yoga positions from a variety of photographed models along with step by step directions.
The poses are arranged roughly thematically with coordinated sequences: lower back, core twist, heart-lung, shoulder and upper body, neck, balancing and synchronizing, bed yoga (no sexual content at all here), airplane yoga, and a short chapter on forest bathing and earthing/walking in nature.
This is a short guide, but the gentle nature of the poses would make them a very good choice for elderly, rehabilitating, paraplegic, or other readers with mobility challenges, as well as readers starting out with yoga and meditation.
Four stars.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
This book is a gem.
Let me tell you why: I've been trying to convince my aunt, who is in 50-s and lives a very sedentary life, to try yoga for all the good it has to offer, i.e. fitness, better posture, clear head, endorphins. So when I tried to looked for a good book for a beginner like her, every single one was either leaded with complex poses she is definitely not able to do right now, had way too much text, had text and no pictures to describe a pose, or had pictures with young, sporty fitness gurus.
On the other hand, this little book is just what I needed to show my aunt that yoga is good, and that yoga is for everyone. There are so many simple, effective poses even a sedentary person can do - as well as some which need practice, which is motivating. In additions, the pictures used show a variety of bodies. It is wonderful. Period.
I'd highly recommend this book for someone who feels that yoga, or possibly any kind of exercise, is overwhelming and for 'other people'.
I only just wish it was longer, given its brief frame.
*Thank you to the Publisher for a free advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book made me smile. I really loved the photos and the sequences in here. They are perfect for everyone and give variations to make it accessible to do anywhere you are. There are multiple people that I would recommend this book to and I think it will help them tremendously. Thank you to Netgalley and the Author for an early copy of this insightful book!
Yoga for Connecting Mind Body and soul was not quite what I expected. It is not a book for everyone but is definitely suited to absolute beginners, the elderly, the infirm, and those overweight just starting out on a healthy lifestyle plan. There is a plentiful supply of excellent instructional photographs giving pictorial explanations. Although the picture on the plane with an older lady in a short skirt doing a forward bend seemed a little inappropriate (especially for the person who might be sitting behind !!, what an eyeful they would get !), It did make me chuckle. Having said that it is an excellent book for the target market and will help many gently improve their bodies.
