This was the first book in this series, for me so I definitely want to go back and read the rest. I was pleasantly surprised to find a summary of the key members of the team at the start of the book. What a great idea especially if like me you read lots of different series and sometimes struggle to remember who is who .

A very good read which kept me on the edge of my seat towards the end.
Two different powerful stories running parallel, which kept me guessing with lots of twists along the way.
The ending to one of the stories was a surprise, but the other one I had expected this to happen

Thanks to netgalley for letting me read this brilliant story in exchange for a review

I received this book from the publisher via Netgalley for a review. A real page turner, plenty of twist and turns to make you dizzy. This was my first book by this author it will not be my last

Lots of twists and turns in this book. Two separate cases. DI Adam becomes a suspect in a murder/rape case with one member of the Police force more than happy to see him locked up and fall from grace.
The other is the sexual assault of a student by a University Professor. The 'victim' is a very fit rugby player and the accused a slight woman. Who is telling the truth??
Both cases weave their way through the book. Where will they lead??

Thanks to NetGalley for supplying me with a pre-release copy of this book. It is a truly outstanding novel. Cara Hunter is a brave writer: she tackles some difficult modern themes but never lets the theme become a distraction from the story. This novel focuses on sexual assault but it’s an original take without traditional stereotypes. The writer doesn’t give easy answers and the book may challenge preconceptions.

This book is the fifth in the DI Adam Fawley series – and they are all worth reading. The relationships between characters develop through the novels so it makes sense to begin the series at the beginning. The locations of the books around Oxford city are an added attraction.

My Thanks to NetGalley and publishers Penguin Viking for an ARC of this novel in return for an honest review.. I requested this book on the basis of the description, My mistake. I ought to have done some research. It is, in fact, the fourth book in a series, but can be read as a stand-alone - - - - - just.. It does have it’s own crime to be solved, not very riveting, but the story in the previous books plays an integral part. I found too that an eBook was not really the best medium to read this story. Photographed documents and smartphone screens were too small and faint to be legible. The police team, who obviously feature in the previous books, were introduced in tabulated form, in some detail, at the start of the novel, but reformat doesn’t allow for easy flipping to and fro through the pages for reference, as in paper format. Those who have read the previous stories may be familiar with the police team, so this may not be a problem. I’m afraid too that I failed to empathise with any of the characters, police or suspects. Unfortunately not a page-turner for me. I had to make myself return to the book in order to finish what I had requested.

I appreciate the author trying to get her readers closer into the action by putting her lead detective, Inspector Adam Fawley, in the first person in interleaving sections of the third person narrative, but I’m afraid that not even this worked for me. It just made it messy. I hate to criticise an author’s hard work, but I prefer to leave Oxford’s exceptionally high murder rate in the hands of Messer’s Morse, Lewis and Hathaway.

Cara Hunters 5th book in the DI Fawley series will not disappoint (if you’ve read the first 4, especially the 4th!). I was super excited to receive this book on NetGalley to review having only read the first book, Close to Home (LOVED IT!). I had a few books to catch up on before reading this one and have thoroughly enjoyed the whole series. Each book felt like I was watching a TV series, they were so brilliantly written and hard to put down (though more so with the first 3) and this was the same. Although I could have read this without the other 4, I didn’t want to and I don’t think it would have been as good. There is a short introduction to the characters at the beginning but it’s not the same, for me it just excited me more to get reading. The 4th book was a really good ‘prequel’ to this one and this followed really nicely with the story about what The Whole Truth is. The characters in this series are awesome so I would highly recommend investing in 1-4 before 5. Hunter clearly put a lot of work into the Fawley series to make it seem realistic and true crime detective style (though I actually know nothing about actual police work), it’s engaging and tense.
I would have given 5 stars for this but I was slightly, only slightly, disappointed that it was predictable to me. Unlike the others where I had no idea where the ending was leading, this one, from the beginning, I knew who and why, but kept reading for the how (maybe that was the point?). Maybe it was that I had just read the last 4 and knew the characters and Hunters writing so well I became my own detective? Nevertheless, I really enjoyed it and I am SO SO excited that it is going to become a TV series (though as always, the books will probably be better, so get reading guys!)
Thank you to NetGalley, Penguin UK AND Cara Hunter for this book and the other Fawley books - looking forward to the next one!!

Omg, Cara Hunter has done it again!
I have just finished the book and absolutely loved it!
I have to say I was disappointed at the start that the crime wasn’t more ‘interesting’ like a murder for example, and to be totally honest the first half of the book is a bit slow with the sexual assault investigation but at about half way through the book everything changes and I struggled to put it down.
I for one am already looking forward to the next book, not to mention the TV series! Really can’t wait for it and to see who will be cast as Adam Fawley.
A new addition is the Previously... in the Fawley files. What a great idea!! I would still recommend readers to read all the books in the series, but for those that can’t there is a chapter at the beginning of the book with a summary about all the different characters. And actually even for those of us that have read all the books is great to have a refresher before getting stuck into the new story.
Finally a comment about the quality of the images in the ARC (websites, police reports etc), they were really hard to read. Tiny and faded writing, but I’m sure this will be sorted in the final version.
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin for letting me review this book.

The new DI Fawley series and he comes back with a bang!
When Adam is called to Oxford university to look into a sexual assault case little did he know what he was going to find.
When the student accuses his female Professor of sexual assault things aren't all it seems.
The professor completely denies the allegations and said the student was just babysitting for her so that she could attend a function. When there is a broken champagne bottle found in the recycling bin things just get more complicated.
Can DI Fawley and his team figure out who is telling the truth?

This is the first book I have read by this author and I haven't read the previous series of these books and I don't know if that's why I struggled to get into it or if the booked didn't capture my interest within the first few pages.

I said to myself I'll give it until I'm halfway through the book and if it hasn't piqued my interest by then, then I'd give up. Halfway through and it started to get interesting when a suspect was arrested and then for me, it got a little boring after that. There were so many different stories going on within the book that I struggled to follow it easily and didn't feel that we needed to cover everybody's day to day lives. I didn't particularly enjoy the addition of the newspaper articles, podcasts, text messages etc.

This book wasn't for me. It wasn't engaging enough and I struggled to find interest in it. Would it change if I read the other books in the series? Probably not.

Thank you to NetGalley for my copy of this book to review.

Firstly, I have loved and raved about all of Cara Hunters books so far, but this is definitely the best one yet. I found both of the storylines in this book original, interesting & gripping, and each little section ends on a cliff hanger, making you want to read just a little bit more.

I really like the continuation of the characters and their stories. Although these books can be read as stand-alone, I just prefer to read a series in order.

One thing I really like about the Cara Hunter books, that I’ve not seen anywhere else, is how they’re broken up with telephone transcripts, tweets, interview notes, news articles, and especially the pod casts in this one. It’s just something a bit different.

I have already recommended this book and I can’t wait for the next one!

Brilliant book full of twists. I hadn't read any of the previous books but this didn't matter at all as there was a catch-up bit at the beginning saying who everyone was.
I can normally predict a plot quite early on and enjoy the writing seeing it play out. What I really enjoyed about this book was that with several twists it kept me on my toes a lot more.
I liked the writing style of the interspersed podcast which also filled in back information.
A great read

Another brilliant saga of the Adam Farley tale. It follows on from previous book but can be read as a stand-alone with ease. Superb twist to the tale bring its to a spectacular end cannot wait for the next book.

I went into this book with an open mind, however I was not impressed and it's not one I can recommend to anyone. Perhaps it's the fact that I haven't read any of the other books in the series (I believe there were 4 more before this one), but it just didn't grab my attention at all. In fact, I found the format very frustrating with the newspaper articles, podcasts and other ad-hoc pieces of exchanges interspersed throughout the novel. I found those only served to distract from the main story and don't like the fact that they disrupted the layout of the book itself. Perhaps some other people would enjoy that, but just not for me sadly.
I won't be rushing back to this author in a hurry that's for sure. Thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is the 5th book in the series following DI Adam Fawley and his team. The whole Truth can be read as a stand alone book quite easily and I personally haven’t read any of the other books. At the beginning of the book it gives you a detailed recap of who’s who of the regular characters.
A fast moving crime novel with two story lines running through it.
The first, a rape charge; a male rugby playing student accuses his female professor with lots of twists and turns that keep you hooked throughout.
The second, a released convicted rapist who has sworn to take revenge on the DI that helped put him away.
This book draws you in and although a bit confusing at times (switching from one story line to another), it is gripping and a definite page turner.
I enjoyed it, especially the twists and turns and sometimes the unexpected.

This is the fifth book in the Adam Fawley series, and I am disappointed in myself that I hadn't read the whole series before this. Set in Oxford, my home town, it is a twist on the power play between Professor and student, and the twist and turns of not just one case, but two as they intertwine and complicate each other. If I was being really picky, that would be my only criticism as it introduced more and more characters as we reached the final crescendo. However, this did not detract from my enjoyment of the book overall.

Things I loved, of which there were many more were; fast paced action, flawed characters (namely Adam Fawley himself, although many others in his team), twist and turns and not having a clue how it would turn out until very near the end. I am looking forward to getting to know the characters in more depth, and look forward to many more books from this author.

When an Oxford student accuses one of the university's professors of sexual assault, DI Adam Fawley's team think they've heard it all before. But they couldn't be more wrong. Because this time, the predator is a woman and the shining star of the department, and the student a six-foot male rugby player.

I don't like jumping into a series midway through and didn't realise this was book five when I started it however was extremely grateful for the list of characters and short bios. This is a great idea which should be done more often. The only negative I have is that this book has ALOT of characters, quite hard to keep up with at times.

An exciting crime thriller that had plenty of twists and turns to keep you interested in the storyline. This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and would read more of her work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.

The Whole Truth is the latest book in the DI Adam Fawley series by Cara Hunter and yet again another outstanding police procedural novel has been written.

There are two main strands to the book which whilst linked are both very strong in their own right and this enables the author to keep the twists and turns coming from the first page to the last whilst ratcheting up the tension for the reader.

The author uses her trademark social media; official police documents and transcripts of interviews well to add an extra twist for the reader and to keep the stories moving along at a good pace

Definitely highly recommended

I was totally gripped by this from the first page. I think it does help if a reader has some of the back story , in this case the history of the relationship between Inspector Alex Fawley and his pregnant partner, and their haunting loss, and their intertwined past with convicted serial rapist Gavin Parrie.
The main plot is a surprising twist on the theme of the sexually predatory academic and the attractive talented student,, who is in this case a male 6ft rugby player.
I agree with some of other reviewers who felt that the two plots were rather tangential. My other difficulty was that the devices that the author uses to push the narrative on, including transcripts of emails were very difficult to read on my Kindle edition.
Notwithstanding these difficulties, I loved the book and devoured it in a couple of sittings.

I received this book as an advanced reader copy from Netgalley and this is my honest review.

I enjoyed this book, it’s a good police procedural and it tackles a lot of stereotypes about the he said/she said accusations that can happen. That being said, I don’t think it works very well as a stand-alone, I have read one of the previous books so I had some idea of the characters but there was a fair bit of the interactions with some of the regular characters that just went over my head. It doesn’t detract from either of the main stories but it is slightly frustrating even with the character explanations at the start of the book. The other thing that bothered me a bit was that there seemed to be two main stories going on that didn’t really tie in with each other, it felt like the story advertised actually ended up being more a sub plot, I think maybe that’s a problem with the synopsis rather than the story itself but I would have preferred a bit more interaction to bring it all together. Perhaps if that had been there I would have given this book a 5 star, it has all the right ingredients with character and story but didn’t mesh as well as it could have for me.

Ah, another great one by Cara Hunter! Since I read her first book, Close to Home, I've been hooked and The Whole Truth was another fantastic novel.

It was great to spend time with Adam Fawley and his team again and the twists in this book are amazing, I don't think I was expecting any of them! I had to stay up till 1am yesterday to finish it because I couldn't sleep without knowing what was going to happen. Even though the beginning was a bit slow, it was a great read and I highly recommend it!
